In this Witcher 3 Lore Video, Drew takes you through the Lore surrounding the Land of a Thousand Fables.
Released on the 19th of May, 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an open world, third-person perspective videogame in which players control Geralt of Rivia. The game is based on The Witcher series of fantasy novels written by Polish Author, Andrzej Sapkowski. The main story follows Geralt searching for his missing adopted daughter, named Ciri. She is fleeing from an otherworldly force who are determined to find her and use her powers for themselves. During the game, players will interact with a variety of fleshed out characters, using a variety of tactics to complete side quests, developing their skills as they acquire more experience points. The gear Geralt uses can also be changed by players purchasing new items and using in-game materials to forge from scratch. The main plot has multiple endings, all of which are determined by the player's choices at various points throughout the videogame. The Witcher 3 is available on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Microsoft Windows.

The music playing throughout the entire area is absolutely perfect. At first it sounds inviting and and whimsical, but there's this constant unnerving, almost threatening undertone playing along. It doesn't hit you over the head with a dark theme like the Imperial March playing when Vader enters a room. Instead it makes you feel like something is terribly off and yet you can't really put your finger on it. It's like a splinter in the back of your brain.
Corristo89 very well put sir.
Like clowns. They are nice and friendly and then pull a knife and stab you to death in your sleep
@@vladsunseducer3574 Yes... Like that xD
Corristo89 the major melody has a minor melody following suit ahead of the tune in a higher pitch which creating the sound of scary singing ladies or screams.
You got that from the speech Morpheus gave to Neo about the Matrix. 🙂
Just a couple of missed points;
At the bottom of the lake that Geralt dives in to from Longlocks' tower there are dozens of skeletons with pieces of armor scattered around. It seems there has been more than one prince charming to visit Longlocks.
There's a kettle full of gold at the end of the rainbow that explodes and morphs in to a golden panther when you approach it.
There's a donkey in the giant's castle that craps chunks of magical gold.
Fun fact - My unicorn glitched when I called it and appeared wearing a set of (Roach's) Skellige armor!
Fun fact, my pc crashes at the end of the rainbow :D It can't handle the magic explosion lol
I burst out laughing when I mouse over the unicorn and saw it was labelled Roach. Geralt hasn't even been on it yet and its already called roach in his mind 😂
Same
When ever i fight the giant my game crashes 😡
shut up
I'm pretty sure the developers had a blast while creating Land of a Thousand Fables.
Lol Among other things
In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again.
And this is also when we really get to see how bat shit insane some of the writers are.
@@mikkelolesen6292 And thats a good thing
@@nikifalcon What other things exactly?
So I did the math, and, if we assume that one day in the Fable Sphere is one minute in real life, then the Fable Sphere was left to its own devices for over 12 million days, or 33 thousand years.
fuck
Then if one believes in the classical Greek idea that Hell is unending repetition , the land of a thousand fables is Hell.
Damn. Well, at least nothing decomposes there after dying.
Damn so that wolf got cut open 12 million times?
@@jordandennis6794 no
The little match girl was my favorite fable when I was little, because I didn't entirely understand how things work. Now I do. It's heartbreaking.
One of the best parts of the expansion
Ragnar Lothbrok _ still think it would have been cooler if we fought the main boss in this place, but the land went dark and sinister
Joe Lowe Cool idea
Hail Jarl Ragnar!!!
I salute you King Ragnar!!
But the rewards from this part is better than the unseen Elder cave part pra not ? I have done all endings from the Blood and Wine expansion but I never now wich armor ir swords are better from wich part.
I knew that artorias could walk the abyss unharmed, but not cast S class legendary illusions

Intellectual.
You can also plough in the clouds
Lol that sex scene was funny and epic. This game story rocks hahahaha.
@@zarhun7 wait what?
Hahaha yes, first i thought she was gonna trick me but then i thought yea why not😂😂. After all i am just a man😂. It was a good choice... The scene was pretty good actually
Land of a Thousand Fables: *exists*
Me: "Damn, I know I shouldn't have gone to the unseen elder"
Yeah I gotta replay the game now. Didnt know this existed
Initially i chose going to the unseen elder too, but halfway through i changed my mind and called for regis...this game is just so brilliant....i had to go back to the castle through the city when everything was burning, vampires and bruxae were attacking at every corner, the atmosphere was just epic. Only to read enter this world of a thousand fables, and it just blew my mind...i couldn't get enough of the easter eggs, this game is just the best in the history of gaming
I replayed it the second time thinking that Unseen elder would be better. I was wrong.
I like the Witcher videos because they're expertly written. Good work guys.
+Rag River Thanks for the support! We appreciate it!
There is also Ole Lukoje's notes (The Danish name for the Sandman) you can find in a sunken boat, where he describes the progress of the instability of the Land of a Thousand Fables. It's the details in this game you got to appriciate!
On a sidenote, "Expecto ludum" in is Latin, and in English is translated to "I await a game."
Just thought I would like to share.
I always expected "ludum" to be more akin to "fun" than "game" in this context, then again, I don't know anchient languages :p
@@GundamReviver it's game/school and can be used for a children's fun activity really, so that's not inappropriate
As a German, I absolutely love the references to the German fables I was told as a child
“Ugh I love Unicorns, they remind me of childhood”
“They remind me of something different”
😏
They remind me of a particular scene in Cabin in The Woods
oh you
Giggity.
Hahahah.....oh
Gia D syke
This part of this perfect game had such a "Shivering Isles" vibe to it, nostalgia 10/10
This expansion brings back my childhood, I still remember my mother read me books about the characters that were mentioned in the game, the overwhelming emotion from my vivid childhood, it's just beautiful... thank you CDProjekt Red you're awesome.
I feel exactly the same way
i feel the same way. it feels really cool to see the characters from the tales in the game.
Blood and wine is my favourite expansion of the Witcher 3.
RoPlayer it was Amazing, however the story of Hearts of Stone was honestly brilliant
I think we both agree that The Witcher 3 is one of the greatest games ever made. And yeah I agree that Hearts of Stone has a better story
+RoPlayer ❤❤❤❤
I loved this expansion but found hearts of stone to be more replay-able, and every time I wanted to check out the different ending I would always fight the devil, I like the other guy too much
Same with me,a new world,new weapons,new story,Beautiful art-painted like,and this mission.
You forgot that at the end of the rainbow there's a pot of gold
A pot O'Gold!? What's the catch?
@@someguy7703 Theres a Golden Leopard that attacks you if you take the Pot
Really ? I have platinumed and finished witcher 3 , 6 times , and this ending from Blood and Wine expansion I have done two times but I never now that have this secret in this part thanks for the info man .
@@SuperSaiyan3985 😂
@@SuperSaiyan3985 he had platinumed it once and finished it 6 times....
Clicks vid "I'm listening."
Hears the name Artorias "I'm listening intently."
"Your run off the mill crossdressing wolf."
Wow. That sentence
Please keep the witcher series up... finished the game but miss the world sooo much... this series is really cool to see how much time and effort the developers has spend making this amazing game... nice vid as well
New deal signed, 👍
This was by the far the best part of the expansion for me. I'm glad I made the decision to free the Duchess' sister instead of the other option in my first play through.
Whenever I'm doing boring, routine work at the office, I'll binge the Witcher Lore and Mythology series 😍 I absolutely love it!!
You are an amazing storyteller. I love the fact that you intermingle the "real life" legends with the Witcher universe.
Love how the critiques said: witcher 3 is too collourfull and bright.
Cd red said: you want collourfull? Ok. Lets do it like blizzard did with D3.
But with a catch. It seems cheery and collourfull. But is the darkets shit you have ever seen.
no one fucking said that
Most of these fables are also found in the fairytale forest in the Efteling, the Netherlands
16:14 fun fact: in Polish version This dude is no other than Rumcajs - famous bandit from old czech cartoons
This part of the game was amazing and I happened to miss it in my first playthrough. :D
G.O.D. So you went to see the Elder Vampire then?
Yes. Was not dissapointed by that either but this was on another level.

Dude you have to make more these types of Lores of Witcher 3. I loved this and the O'Dimm ones. SUPER GOOD!
17:04 Somebody toucha my spaget.
I'm not sorry.
The presentation in game of the Land of A Thousand Fables is very reminiscent of Wonderland as depicted in American McGee's Alice series. A dreamworld gone wrong and perverse.
I missed both of the swords damn it. But this has been a great video nonetheless.
when artorias visited a long far away land before fighting the darkness of lordran
Great video. And just out of morbid curiosity... 23 year in the real world is 12,088,800 minutes. So if one minute is a week, that's 232,476 years. No wonder they all went mad.
The little match girl made me so sad when I first heard it... I was so used to every fable having a good ending :( In the version I read the mother sees her grandma before she dies and hugs her and dies and goes to heaven with her
only the highly censored disney versions. originaly most fairy tales were realy realy dark. dornrösschen for example (i think it's sleeping beauty in english) does not wake from the princes kiss and so he rapes her, she then becomes pregnant and gives birth and only wakes when her children try to suck her teats. and there is also something about cannibalism, can't remember the context though.
Law of surprise does not “most often result in the giving of a child” those are rare occurrences which is what makes them note worthy.
20:00 the sword in the bonfire represents Dark Souls, right?
... so is Dark Souls a fairytale? How does this Artorias guy know about Dark Souls? Is he the same gallant knight Artorias of Dark Souls lore that was corrupted?
I like that myth about the dragon of Krakao (or how you spell it). I got a tin figurine of that dragon sent to me by a Polish friend way back.
Dear god all of my childhood was destroyed with this sequence
Man , this is still one of my favorite quests in any game ever, as a person who loved and knew all of these wonderful fables and fairy tales , it was a blast seeing them reincarnated with a sick little twist , of course that’s not even mentioning the jaw dropping scenery and graphics
IKR
When i visited the fablesphere i was shocked to know that i knew a lot about fables from my childhood. When i saw that big rainbow the first thing i thoughy about was checking if there is a pot of gold at it's end, i felt really cool when there was actually one
Dorothy didn't wear shoes on the Yellown Brick Road, She wore Slippers and they were made of Rubies not Diamonds.
PS. Sorry about this comment, lol. For some reason the diamond shoe comment really sunk in for me
hmmm some strange reason i want to play witcher 3 again
Lee Goodman probably because it’s the best game ever made
Lee Goodman I'm replaying it right now lol
very true one of the best games ive played on the xbox one something you never really get these days, the only game that comes close though is assassins creed oranges not game of the year that but still a good game.
+Lee Goodman Enjoy yourself 😁
Lee Goodman assassin creed oranges? What's that game about? Assassin hunting the most dangerous orange and eating it or some shit?
Love the Witcher lore series Drew keep them up
I appreciate the hard work put into this video to highlight the amount of detail that is present. The video showed me everything I missed because when I played through this area, I did everything to get out of it quickly as this entire area made me feel uneasy.
Best youtubers channel out there for the Witcher!! This level was amazing.
Definitely one of the coolest videos I've seen from you. LOVE The Witcher content.
Absolutely loved this part of blood and wine. You almost forget the grimness of the witcher, with all the cute fairytale animals like puss in boots, and then you find longlocks/goldylocks...
20:08, Ha, Dark souls...
And note how ‘cooperation’ was pronounced.
Ewan Bunford The only thing to do is to rekindle the first flame.
The whole place has a real Soulsborne feel to it, the entire thing of people in such a prosperous place descending into madness, the dream turning into a nightmare, Artorias, the literal bonfire
*Y O U D I E D*
Groisu+
His name was Artorius Vigo and he isn't a DS reference because he was mentioned in the Witcher novel Lady of the Lake, which was first released in 1999
Loving the Witcher videos. Keep up the good work guys!
If anyone wants to see a full silent and blind play through of the complete Witcher series, I’m doing one on my channel. It’s silent, so no personality to interrupt the feel of the game, and I’ve never actually finished the first two games, so I will be going over everything in detail, and won’t be rushing through any of the lore. I’m a bit of a completionist so I will be exploring as much as possible, but only in moderation. Hope to see some of you there!
Thanks for the videos Fudgemuppet, glad you guys are doing Witcher videos.
Regarding the Law of Suprise: Gerald also is a child of suprise. It was hinted in the short story "A Question of Price" in the Last Wish book.
nantu07 I thought she was given freely by her mother to the witchers.
You can find dozens of skeletons in the water under the Longlocks' tower, just to show how many brave knights were trying to get up to her tower
This was my favorite part of the blood and wine dlc
Did a little math here, to make it easier I assumed 1 week in the fable world = one minute outside it.
so I broke down how many minutes are in an hour, broke that down into how many minutes are in a day, then broke that down into how many minutes are in 23 years and got about 12,088,800 minutes.
I then did that x 7 for the length of a week, and then divided the whole thing but 365 for the length of a year.
What I came up with is in the fable world it has been about 231,840 years since the last visit.
Something in the back of my mind is telling me I did something wrong in this equation but I can't figure out what it is if anything.
IDk if you covered it, but I loved that there really is a pot of gold by the end of the rainbow
The Refonzel suicide ended me
rapunzel* yea it broke my heart thinking she was waiting so long for a prince charming, got depressed and ended it..
Some minor things Missed. The Magic Coins shat out of the Donkey in the Giants Castle, and the Pot of Gold at the end of the rainbow behind The little Match-stick-girl. (That isn't exactly friendly)
I love the fight with the cloud giant it’s fun as hell
You forgot to mention the pot of gold at the point where the rainbow touches the ground
Drew does a fantastic job with this series. Keep it up man!!
This is one of my favorite areas in the Witcher 3. Love your videos!
I see that mage was a Dark Souls fan.
When I saw long locks hanging there I shat myself . That was some serious creep shit.
This location to me is the scariest place in the game, for some reason it was just extremely unnerving and it really disturbed me, even more than the Von Everec estate
Everyone forgets that when the first fairy tales were written, *they were written in blood.*
Urgh, the Little match girl has always haunted me, whenever I hear or see references to that tale I get teary eyed, it's a fantastic tragedy that invokes so much raw emotion within it's written pages. Deffinetly an H.C. Andersen Classic.
It's funny how I watched that one Rick and Morty episode where Beth had her own magical playground way before playing this dlc.
Great video. I’ve completed the game twice but your videos are giving me the urge for a third playthrough.
Without a shadow of a doubt my favourite quest. Loved it. It’s a shame you can’t go back in.
Missed the journey to the end of the rainbow and flying whale near the cloud castle :)
I've never played any of the Witcher games(I know I heard they're amazing, I'll get to it eventually) but I just subscribed to your channel because you're an amazing story teller and you have a very soothing voice, you should think about getting a job doing the audio for audiobooks.
Bruh, I was so happy to spot the "Bremer Stadtmusikanten". I grew up in a town near Bremen und I'm a big fan of the football Club Werder Bremen. So usually I'm often in Bremen to attend the games. In the city there's also a statue of the "Bremer Stadtmusikanten" wich is very popular.
I just loved the land of fairytales and I can't wait to get back there in my NG+.
There’s a lot of gold at the end of the rainbow btw 😊
and in the donkeys pile of manure
the girl witch matches is well known in my place ... its a song about a girl that was send out on christmas eve by her cruel father ... a girl scared of beating she stayed out all night ... while she was freezing to death she lighted machtes one by one a vision of happines and days she wished for appeard in front of her .. she smiled ... but the match burned down ... so she walk a little more seing families gathering in happines so she with glipmse of hope lights another match ... her final match and vision was about family that is proud on her and happy in warm home ... she dies in center of village and the next morning when she is discovered the story ends about a night and girl who wished to be happy with her family
Finding longlocks was such a shock. I just stood there for a minute laughing my ass off. That was so unexpected.
Zack Snyder's "Rapunzel" 😂
And this is how Dark Souls series started.... ! Fear not the dark and lets the feast begin !
Your writing is incredible, if you ever make a novel I would pick it up for sure.
Good video. I love all of Toussaint the most but the Land of a thousand fables is definitely one of my favorite spots.
Aww. i didnt jump off the tower and missed all the stuff around the lake. Guess I need to play again. Bummer. 🤔😁
Thank you for doing the Witcher, my husband enjoys the game but I never got into it, now I know what he’s talking about when I say, ‘yes dear, that’s interesting.’ And it now is interesting as I have some idea of what the flip is going on.
14:00 Can we just...bruhhhh
cant believe ive missed this entire thing
can't believe I missed this 5 times for funny red armor
You forgot the gold treusre transforming into a gold puma at the end of the rainbow
This is such a good game.....a living, breathing book.
This is so well-written and presented! Fantastic retelling of a fantastical part of TW3!
You forgot the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow
This land was amazing. I thought you couldn't get better than Toussaint but I was wrong lol
As soon as I reached this part of the DLC blood and wine I was like oh my gosh I have got to see all of these characters especially when magic goes wrong literally the adult version of things reminds me of Alice madness returns those were some great games to watch🤩
damn this was good but you missed a a thing in the Land of a Thousand Fables go to the end of the rainbow my man :)
there is also the gold pooping donkey in the giants castle
Nice vid FudgeMuppet, seen most of the witcher lore vids. Like them all and very wel done.
God I keep forgetting just how crazy this game is and how far it went
17:03 she touched their spaghet and got what was coming for her.
the entire giant bossfight was actually a full on Nameless King Dark Souls easter egg
17:09 SOMEBODY TOUCHED MY SPAGHETTI!
20:53 did the math. By assuming that a few minutes is 10 minutes 23 184 years would've passed in the fablesphere.
Holy crow!
The little match girl was told to me as a child, it's probably why Denmark has a social safety net, stories have power.
The Witcher uses magic in way that are so much more interesting than other games.
could you please cover The Conjunction of the Spheres??
