Been playing this game ever since it came out, and still am. The soundtrack is absolutely spot on. my favorite is "The Fields of Ard Skellig" Sitting that paper boat, water all around, feels like hours. i cant put it down. I am 70yo, but i keep playing, as my motto is; "The day you stop playing, is the day you start dying..." No souls game can ever beat this game... in other words, i feel you, man.

I think most people tend to undervalue how important music is to video games. In the past 3 years my fondness for the sound design of games grew exponentially as those annual release titles just became more and more stagnant. I remember jamming out to Black Ops 2 lobby music... needless to say I won't be returning to those franchises. But even harkening back to when I first started games as a kid, I would sit and listen to the title screen of Kingdom Hearts 2 for hours...
And man you're not even Geralt's age yet, he's monster slaying at 90!! You've still got years of service to dedicate ;)

I completely agree. I tried playing it about 5 years ago and had a hard time getting into it and was slightly overwhelmed with all the different systems, crafting, alchemy, oils, etc. Picked it up again when they released the complete edition and absolutely loved it. Honestly as someone that finished the original on deathmarch. I restarted the game a while back after the PS5 version released. I like the new gameplay changes on one hand gets you certain skills and abilities faster, but on the other .. now it feels like you level way too fast. Back in the day on DM a creature 2 levels higher than you was a real threat, esp early on they took zero damage and one shot you. But now I can fight bosses that are 5 levels higher no problem. Because by lv 6 you can have both your light and heavy attack maxed, and there is no reason not to go for that because the reality is that it's what will benefit you most at the beginning esp. And by lv 10 you can have the best combat skills + the best defensive skills like 100% damage reduction while dodging

Above that The Witcher world is much more immersive and atmosphere is much denser. The story, characters (and their arcs) and worldbuilding is also superior to RDR2 as well as facial animations (for some reason RDR2 has awful facial animations). The game definitely has staying power if someone's making a video about how great it is a decade later hahahah, you should definitely try the DLCs!! I actually made a video on them a month or so ago. But, currently am intending to play Witcher 1, then 2, and potentially return to TW3 though that's definitely in the distant future. Also wanna try Gothic as per lots of suggestions.
I didn't engage in Gwent enough tbh, but I'd also like to sidebar most in-game minigames for a future video about how that feature is woefully missing from a lot of the newer 'living, breathing' world titles.
One of my favorites is Caravan from Fallout, Bully has really good arcade/carnival minigames, pool in GTA4, and golfing in GTA5 was always fun. Blitzball in FFX was a little ridiculous. Also in-game tournies/coliseums are a must-have for any action title, Kingdom Hearts had a really great one and Sekiro's Boss Rush/Gauntlet of Strength modes come to mind.

Awesome video, and one who's enthusiasm for this game is something I share completely! I played through The Witcher 3 for my first time around 3 or so years ago and it utterly absorbed me. The world, the combat, the skills, the gameplay in general, the characters, the main/side narratives, the dialogue choices, etcs, it all just clicked so hard for me that it stands out as an experience all it's own. I remember the quest with Keira where you get some dialogue choices that made me think very carefully on how to choose, and while things went well I was shocked when I learned just how badly that situation could have ended! I'm compelled to just gush about the game is so many ways but I'll cut myself off and just say this video nailed that feeling the game can leave you with, that fondness for having/sharing the experience so that other's might get to have it as well. Much appreciated video, glad I came across it for sure!

Witcher's was a really great one, and a really pleasant surprise, I'm sure I said it in the video but I dislike character-driven stories, much prefer silent protagonist and just give me a goal to reach... probably a big reason why Dark Souls has consumed me. But, regardless, I hope I can bring you more shit like this and maybe show you new stuff as well.

@@iamiceTV I can dig that, and while I've never played a Souls game they all look fantastic. Hope to rectify this at some point because it's becoming more and more rare to find well-crafted challenge in games or even challenge of any kind in a lot of games. The challenge of many big, open-world games is following directions telling you to go here, do this, kill that, etc that is about as fulfilling as picking up all the items on a grocery list. They look great, sound great, and treat the player like a toddler with a traumatic brain injury of some severity.
Anyway, gettin' in the weeds a bit there lol. I'm actually about to watch some more of your vids now! I like how you come off as very genuine and straight up with how you present things to your audience while also being well-informed, so as far as I'm concerned you can play any game and I'll watch you cover them as I just dig your style/presentation. Took me 4 or 5 tries but I eventually fell in love with it. Definitely a slow starter but Geralts philosophical sarcastic comments tickle me, the insane yet politically astute characters he meets intrigue me. Yen being possessive and jealous feels flushed out and real. Everyone felt so real and flushed out. And skellige and novigrad are gorgeous even if Vellen is a bit lacklustre for me.
A mission might question your ethical nature for killing harmless sentient monsters or help you feel the lonliness you and your witcher colleagues all feel as your academy shrinks to extinction.
The humour is amazing. Whether youre dressing in drag to call bitches or bantering with Djikstra.
Finally, I got the worst ending and just couldnt play on. Never had a game really make me feel lioe my choices had actions. Your mage and peller friends die, you die. It hurt. My overprotective nature of ciri stopped her finding her own autonomy and confidence. The small details are phenomenal.
Much better than anything Bethesda have ever done.
Soundtrack is too small and the game is unstable on any platform but that would be the only criticisms.

From 2016 the time I played it first, I played it just because the hype around it and people recommended it to me. At that time I really wasn't playing any other games than FPS. First time I booted it up I rushed everything and didn't get the game mechanics as I never played RPG before. The long talks and long cutscenes made me really bore then I completely dropped it when I reached Velen area. After a year I really gave it a try, this time not rushing the beginning and understanding everything first, having patience while the game hooks me up to it's story. And did it hook me up! I've been playing it since then, giving it another playthrough after every year or two years. I enjoyed it from it's beginning to every end possible with the mindblowingly good DLCs. Heck I even played just Blood and Wine for like 3-4 times now when I don't have the time to finish the main story again I just hop on the beautiful world of Toussant and enjoy it again and again. Similar to you the most captivating of this game was to me Music. The sad and eerie music of the bogs of Velen which really made me understand of the war torn situation there, the desperation of it's people and the sorrow and horror lying around everywhere, to the calm and peaceful music of Skellige where I really felt the snows of the mountain as if they were right in front of me. I can't even describe what this game means to me now, I search and search and try to find other games that will give me what Witcher 3 gave me a long time ago but I only find a void in my desireness. No other game comes close to this, at least to me, this is why I'm re-installing this game to give another run and while I am downloading it I searched in yt to remind myself why I should play it one more time and your video came up and I glad it did. You summed it up perfectly, when I was listening to your words it felt as if you were talking with the same emotions as me towards this game. I agree with most of your summary of it.

The storytelling in Witcher 3 is next-level. Better than most movies. You realize that you're not even playing as the main character in the story, but as a side-character who is essential to the main character succeeding. Also, I don't know if you've played through the expansions, yet, but they are equally as good. You actually meet the main villain in Heart of Stone in the main game, and you don't even know it. This villain is also, in my opinion, the best villain ever written in all of gaming and movies.

Great game but has flaws. The fact that there is no friendly fire is just unrealistic. If you have allies most of the time they cannot be hurt or injured in the first place which is just goofy in itself. First time playing against the beginning Griffin in White Orchard the best strat I found was to just hide under a cabin and let the invulnerable Vesemir duke it out. It's just cheesy. A good game does not encourage you to cheese, it stamps it out of the game. And don't say "Well if you don't like cheesy tactics don't do them". Screw that theory. You just end up cheesing if it's allowed. Everyone in every encounter including your allies, quest npc's, and even Roach and other bystanders should have health bars. And they should be affected if you aren't careful with a whirl or stray Igni. Just my 2 cents of course. It's good but it could be much better with just this one change. It just doesn't feel real to me, at a visceral level.
P.S. I'll just add that the cheese doesn't apply to the enemies. They can hurt each other. And actually encourages cheese in itself. Got a stubborn bandit camp you're having trouble with? Line them all up one by one with one of the archers in the background and watch them fall one by one to misguided arrows. Yah, don't tell me you didn't ever do it either. Haha. And don't get me started on "no risk Gwent". You risk nothing while opponents risk everything. After a while I just kinda feel bad taking all their cards. But I'll leave it at that for this already lengthy post.

Death March with enemy upscaling is the definative way to play the game as it makes it almost mandatory for you to use all of the games mechanics,
ie. Healing is no longer free by resting, you need to eat food or use alchemy to regain health.
Preparing for monster contracts by reading the beastiary to see what mosters are weak to and using the correct blade oils could be the difference between killing the monster first try and reloading a save.
Lower difficulties can pretty much be steamrolled with light attack and dodge spam

It’s in my top 3 games of all time and it may even be my favourite. I been around a long time and gaming since the original NES and I continuously return to it. Absolute Gem.
I 100% recommend the death march difficulty if you wanted to give it a shot. Using your oils, bombs, concoctions and signs are necessary and it makes the game even more immersive making sure you prepare for Witcher contracts and big fights.

Hell yeah, I think I'd seat it in my top 10. I'm really looking forward to trying out Witcher 1 and 2, even got the Gothic trilogy since it's credited as an inspiration!
It really strikes a unique balance of blending character beats, and a well thought out and interactive narrative that very few games have accomplished... I played it right after Elden Ring and it felt like the perfect contrast.
As for DM, I ended up playing solely on Blood and Bones. DM was fine, but after I broke past level 25 or so it got a little too tedious... but I was still using potions and all. Preparation was definitely my favorite part of the combat, makes the world feel so much more important when every system in place is as necessary as the next.

  • @bdleo300
    @bdleo300 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yeah, you should play it if you like adventure games, it's not a bad game but far from "the best ever" like many people claim, or the best RPG ever, or even the best Witcher game ever. But definitely among the most overrated games ever.
There are so many problems: terrible leveling system from items to enemies, dull main story (instead to focus on the war it's focused on nebulous Wild Hunt and Ciri who is now the most powerful being in the universe yet Geralt has to save her, and he is saving her while gambling, drinking and doing random things for random people; "race against the time" lol), side quest are nothing special either, some are ok, some are illogical nonsense. Most characters are also nonsensical, Baron for example. There are no meaningful faction choices nor you can really choose whom to support (unlike Witcher 1 and 2), Radovid is a comic book crazy villain, the Emperor is boring weakling, and Geralt himself is pathetic, insulted by every peasant in the world, not to mention various sorceress, he is basically just their puppet and a simp.

    • @iamiceTV
      @iamiceTV  ปีที่แล้ว

I disagree, though you may not care for my argument I'd like to pose it regardless. There are far more games deserving of the 'most overrated' title imo, but I do agree, this is not the best RPG ever (also said in the video), and no clue about the Witcher one, haven't played 1 or 2, but I intend to.
This is just my 837485 cents on the game and your take, I don't seek to change your mind but instead just offer my perspective on the matter.
Not sure how I can address all this coherently, but I agree with you on some points which I explored in the video as well, the leveling system is pretty crap and enemy scaling past level 30 is awful, regular combat becomes much too tedious, especially running it at death march, 15+ hits to put down a drowner doesn't inspire difficulty it just wastes time. Not all side quests are equal fs, but that's every game, though side content here does a great job in fleshing out inter-populace dynamics in villages and also feeding new characters into the story (I really enjoyed Cerys and Halfnar + the Berserker who-dun-it). Characters being nonsensical I don't quite understand, Baron is obviously morbidly depressed definitely not gonna be the most normal guy, Radovid (I'd assume he's used an allegory to Hitler hence crazy comic book villain) and Emhyr are both terrible rulers to entice the Ciri as empress ending. Factions, yeah they're missing, but imo in this game I wouldn't make use or want them, my faction by personal choice would always be to being a Witcher, though I would've loved WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more Kaer Mohren content. I'd assume Geralt mostly doesn't enjoy peasants and common folk because they don't like Witchers; they spit on him, talk down to him, comment about his eyes, call him a freak, don't think anyone would react candidly to persecution and discrimination over his say 70ish years of active service? As for sorceresses idk, he's a right twat to Phillipa, and Rita if you choose to be, he's mostly more a puppet to Yen but she usually seems to act in his best interest.
Now then, as for the whole gambling/drinking/random things, that's just free will, not everyone likes a linear path in video games, look at how successful Elden Ring is the moment they disband the Dark Souls level-design philosophy, not that it's a better idea but more people prefer that (personally more of a linear, semi-open world guy myself, I like games that respect my time), personally I didn't spend much of my playthru doing extra-curriculars except playing through the entirety of Novigrad's side missions because that is such a well-designed place plus everything was near eachother, perfect. Ciri does suck, I didn't like her sections at all, except the very last one, but it's quite obviously implied she can't control her powers since she sought out instruction from Avallac'h, no weapon big or small is useful without direction, she had none: but it goes beyond that, Geralt obviously has a paternal bond w/ Ciri, anyone with love for someone would help them regardless of circumstance (even them being space jesus) because that's what love entails.
And as for the race against time, no game has done that faithfully since Majora's Mask, and the only other example I've got is Fallout 1. Both games terrific in their special way but are not favored the most among their respective series because there isn't as much freedom and enjoyment in a linear path for most gamers. It's just modernity, but the presence of the Wild Hunt is done FAR better in this game as the Big Bad than most other's representations *cough* Alduin *cough*.
And hey, if you get all the way to bottom here I'd love to here your thoughts on Witcher 1 and 2, I've only been suggested 2, but I'd prolly buy both once they hit sale again... would love to hear some more about them

@iamiceTV thanks for your reply, I'll try to be brief: Bloody Baron - an old man, brutal, ruthless warlord, mercenary and bandit leader, yet he is transformed into another spineless cuck who is depressed and devastated because his wife cheated on him or whatever so eventually he kills himself (one path)?? How's that make any sense? People died all the time in our world back in medieval times, Witcher's world is even worse, much worse. btw unscrupulous feudal lords in medieval Europe, especially Germany were called robber-barons/Raubritter, reminds me of this guy; none of them killed himself because of his mad old wife: when his wife dies, he finds another one. But again almost all men in this game are simps, including Geralt... or total psychos like Radovid.
Yeah, common folk don't like witchers, but these peasants must be 100% suicidal to insult him again and again - imagine if you are a peasant shoveling manure near the road and then you see this legendary, dreadful mutant monster slayer with massive muscles and even more massive swords; no guards nearby, entire country is in chaos and human life is cheaper than wine (literally), so probably not the best idea to provoke this guy with something as : "I hateeeee you, eat s^%$n %^%^ mutant $@#$%!". But the player can't do anything except to endure endless NPC insults while playing as this 'badass' character... that's not 'immersive', just the opposite. Pure masochism. You can't even kill cows without some magic cow god appears?! Ffs!
You should definitely try Witcher1 (graphic is a bit obsolete by modern standards); in W1 Geralt starts lost and confused so his progression makes more sense. The game itself is not so pretentious like W3, the world is smaller, more focused, and you have this freedom of choice: support one faction or another, or just try to distance yourself from both. Unlike W3, religion for example: the entire church, every bloody priest is utterly corrupted, sickly perverted, evil, absolute scum all of them. I'm not a big believer myself but CDPR obviously hates religion; sure it's fantasy religion, but CDPR ideological agenda is too aggressive and irritating, for example that quest with some vampire mass-murderer religious zealot. Wtf?? Compare this with Kingdom Come Deliverance for example where some priests/monks are total a-holes, but some are not. Some are corrupted, some are fair and honest or at least trying to be. Even the Inquisition is presented more like shades of gray than total evil, ultimately depending on your actions. Good storytelling vs bad storytelling.
Elden Ring is also overrated game imo, another decent game but not so incredibly great. I guess I don't like mainstream favorites... but yeah, perhaps Witcher3 is not the most overrated game ever... that is - The Last of Us 😃
p.s. that wasn't brief at all.

@@bdleo300 Glad to hear from you dude!
As for Baron, he has more than one path, I am assuming you got the 'bad' one, as I definitely had a more drawn out and positive ending. But, the Baron recently suffered a miscarriage which led to him beating his wife and blaming her for the loss of the child. The wife doesn't leave/cheat, she speaks with the Ealdorman or whoever and this led her to the Crones of that swamp. The Crones cursed her with a brand that essentially wiped her memory and mind leading her to live out the rest of her days in servitude caring and fattening up their child sacrifices, Geralt is given the option to either free her or leave her. Deciding to free her lets you storm the Crones living space with the Baron and a gang of his men in tow, slicing through drowners and getting a boss battle versus a Fiend. As well, before that there's like a little expository side quest to help Baron through his guilt and depression of the loss of his child by turning it into a Lubberkin, all that. After that, the Baron is redeemed and he goes on to help heal his wife in a chateau he has in the mountains leaving the castle in the care of his second-in-command.
I also think it's fair to assume the common folk don't all know who Geralt is given some react differently, some in fear, some in disgust, and particularly in Skellige most treat Geralt with a level of reverence, as well in the Blood and Wine expansion city of Beauclair. Regardless, being able to mass murder civilians may be fun, but that's definitely not the action CDPR wants Geralt to take, while agency is great, they definitely wanted this to be a Geralt simulator, hence why I consider this to be more of an Action Adventure game than a RPG. Also does killing cows actually spawn in a special enemy btw??? I did not know that if so, never tried. The religious aspect in this game is definitely pretty prominent but I think it fits pretty well into the grand scope of the game given that it characterizes the turmoil and differences of cultures between Velen/Novigrad/Oxenfurt, and the warrior culture in Skellige vs the more law-abiding/bloodline following disposition shown by the Nilfgaardian empire. The Temarian rogues as well don't seem to display religious beliefs as flashily, but the Witch Hunters seem to be a reflection of Radovid and the extremity of it goes to show the unwillingness and inability to sway the mind of every character, meaning a guy like Radovid is not to be redeemed, action must be taken. At least that's my perspective and understanding of it. Though I agree it's pretty heavy-handed I think it fits well into fantasy/medieval settings as religion/belief systems were the backing for wars, whether it be political or religious struggles, more recently economics become a bigger trend and inciter for conflict. CDPR definitely has a lot of social commentary laid into their games but I don't think any bit of Witcher's reflects real life (maybe trying to reflect WW2 Poland? maybe?) or would make any sense/draw any comparisons unless you were expressly looking for it, as compared to Cyberpunk, which was dog shit, throws it in your face far more often and tries to act deeper than it truly is.
I will definitely look to try out Witcher 1, and 2, when they hit their fated 90% off sales. I'm never really worried about graphics man, I can enjoy a game thats 2D/3D/isometric/first person/third person all the same, all I really worry about is art style, but that feeds into me preferring and liking games that feel like they have expressed purposes/meaning besides just making money. And to me, I think Witcher 3 has that, and I'm sure 1 & 2 has that as well. In comparison to the soul-less slop we see from some Playstation exclusives, 343's Halo games, and the onslaught of annual release franchises, I'll always be grateful to at least have these past experiences to look back on.
As for the Elden Ring comment... I definitely have more words on that but I'll save it for another video, another day. And hopefully I'll hear from you again on that one ;)
Also I definitely need to play KCD, I own it, but haven't finished it.
Hope you're well, have a good day brotha

I think gaming can only get so good, but if this game, main quest was three times as long with more action, story, twists and crazy moments even in only one title (not a saga), with better graphic but not releastic ones but more like art ! (like it is) more real world detail in the fictional world that it is , With VR in third person mode that worked well with it and headphones for audio, I reckon this be the best gaming experience ever ,side mission is for more interest but isn't the main quest really and extra details to the story also like characters hidden polts etc but good to have it included and the detail I do enjoy, the main narrative is the story and not details of extras included, the story basic enough . There was parts of this blow my mind but if all the above was there in a title like this in VR ,it would be epic gaming experience imo the best , I say this If any one who makes games or works in it, or that people may read this and agree , it that games are good but there not their yet for epic gaming experience but good games are there have been around long time , i see it the same as films , big screen films special effects took time not that good storys aint been around, it be good if it doesnt take as long as it took films meaning maybe in next 20 years maybe VR makes ground breaking title, playing rpgs been my personal fav type of game , I think you could do VR with joypad doesnt need to fully be immersive in my opinion, I say this as a comment on witcher 3 because this game has the immersive quailty it the game you playing it for the game and the story but immersion of the open world makes it better the scale, environments , atmophere and detail, if had experienced all of that more story, action better graphic, I be totally blowen away, but I can see the potential in that game, fanasty world suits VR in my opinion ? role playing game in third person view , maybe that only me lol , if not said not heard, if anyone reads

    I wasn’t gaming between 2010 and 2018. Totally missed Witcher 3 until last week (July 15, 2024).
This game destroys Elden Ring (a game I loved for the first 150 hours). It obliterates Dragon’s Dogma 2 (which I put down after 3 hours because it sucks).
Now, I’m hoping CD Projekt Red does a new Witcher.
