I think Mando is kind of a sad man. I mean, he doesn't give a fuck about comodity, he has nothing in his life but the hunt for new bounties, his clan is more a religious cult than a community, he doesn't seem to have real friends and probably the last people who gave him real affection were his parents. The Razor Crest is a projection of that life, it's almost like Mando doesn't value his life beyond his basic survival instincts. And that's why he does so much for the Child, it's the first time he has a real purpose for his life, something to really live and fight for.

As to why the Razorcrest doesn't have an astromech: Remember, Mando's parents were killed by battle droids in the Clone Wars, so he hates droids. Remember the first episode when he was very anti-droid, not even wanting the Pit Droids to work on the 'Crest. He's coming around though, so he might be open to getting an astromech now.

In one of these novels he had damaged circuitry and could not afford new shielded circuitry that was resistant to charged particle weapons, e.g., ion cannons. He switched these damaged systems over to use “Fluidics” circuitry, an anachronistic, inefficient tech that had the one advantage of being particle weapon resistant like shielded circuitry.
In one of the legends novels Hans is on some adventure with Lando on the Lady Luck and Lando activates a subsystem which scans the outer hull of the ship for abnormalities which could hopfully find any tracking devises that had been attached. Han says that he'd really love to have that on the falcon and Lando just laughs at him, and says that the system would never even be able to map out the hull of the falcon much less find abnormalities.

As a guess, probably between 30 to 50 percent is completely aftermarket parts, and roughly 70 percent of the remainder being modified to some degree. About the only stock things left are the seats in the common room and the bedding. Just a guess though.

I think it is more that he is a foot/jet-pack soldier and not a pilot. He doesn't use the ship as a weapon, it's just to get from A to B. He is kinda stupid that way.
Din's sleeping alcove makes me think of a semi-truck driver's sleeping alcove located at the back of the cab. This ship is a clear example of a vehicle that serves as your living space. For all that he might be wearing shiny armor that makes it look like he's got plenty of credits to his name, Din Djarin is sleeping in his car and traveling from town to town to make ends meet and be able to feed this kid he picked up along the way.
Talking about having to install aftermarket weapons. The Mando would have had to this because the original weapon systems would have been removed when it was discharged from service. The Empire would not have armed its citizens while disposing of old designs. Like when you buy an old cop car, the lights, and things are removed and even the engine is de-tuned is some cars.
These have been things that have been bugging me the whole series. I really wish that when he interacts with the Mandalorian fleet, some random Mando engineer just goes off on him about not taking care of his equipment, then just goes to town on the razor crest and just beefs her up to Mandalorian quality.
makes me think of what one of my RPG mandos is like, he'd buy a brand new ship then as soon as he gets it back to base, he is opening up interior panels, exterior plates figuring out where and how many laser cannons and quad cannons he can fit and automate to the ship. as well as what sort of systems he can upgrade and if need be build himself (this guy is a engineer) typically he has to be told to stop or there will be no room for the crew to operate in save the cockpit and even then it would be one seat if Fi had his way. lol.
@@davidcannon3515 HA, that's exactly what my Mando engineer did. So far we have stolen a D5 mantis class, a CL-1C lancet prototype, and an aurek class strikefighter. Danis spends most of his time locked in the workshop improving all the ships systems.
In my mind the Razor Crest is a symbol of Djin's changes throughout the story. His evolution as a character based on every experience. I think eventually he may lose the ship as he eventually is reborn. *5 seasons later* "Really Mando, how do you keep this hunk of junk flying? It's practically a flying collection of spare parts. It looks like the only origial part is the refresher."
This was a really cool video. My favorite part of Vader Immortal was the introduction bit where the player gets to wander around part of the ship; I would love more games and media that show the interior of ships in Star Wars

When I think about it, all the flaws and character and troubles handed to this particular Razor Crest ship are really what make it so damn endearing. THIS specific ship will always live in my heart as one of the most precious and lovable of the Star Wars saga, and I hope it's living like a Boss Pimp up there in starship heaven!
If he continues as he is I believe that he will need a newer ship at some point. It is my personal opinion that when the razor dies it will be in some spectacular way. Most likely in the middle of season two or the finale of season two.

This is the channel I watch most on TH-cam, and I bought the "Humanity First" T-shirt. I run their "most recent" Playlist. After getting into work in the morning, I turn on Generation Tech while I catch up on emails that came in overnight; I turn on the phones and press pause as the calls come in. After 2 hours, I take a coffee and smoke break and the play continues. I generally do this all day at work. When I get home I read, watch movies and whatever shows I'm following. When I'm ready to go to bed I put my earbuds back in, put the volume really low, and play Generation Tech. I listen/watch every video 3 to 4 times.

I know this was a video strictly on its flaws, but I just wanna touch on some of the advantages because I personally love the Razorcrest: 1. Durable and Reliable as HELL. Already this thing has been looted by Jawas then rebuilt, Crash landed on a Feral World, had its engines shot on multiple occassions, attacked by alien spiders, attacked by a Ravinak and crash landed into the waters of Trest. This thing is a beast, and generally speaking reliability comes before all other things because if your ship aint flying in the first place all the fancy bells and whistles don't matter. This thing can definitely take some hits. 2. Reverse Thrusters - This is a small one, but the ability to quickly change the direction of ones momentum is actually deceptively useful for a craft that is usually outmanuevered. A neat trick! 3. Stealthy and Innocuous. The ship isn't that large and as said, does not have a homimg beacon. It's not a flashy ship and so usually doesn't attract much unwanted attention. These are just the ones I could come up with. I really think that with just a few changes it would be much more servicable. A good repair job, some upgrades to the engine and weapon systems, an astromech and maybe some additional space would all be quite lucrative!
I think we missed a few points. One of which being, he's broke. As we saw in the first episode, he was scraping by for the cost of fuel. So, it makes sense that he wouldn't spend money on things like missiles or torpedoes when the ship was mainly used as a transport prior to that. I think we also haven't seen it flown in it's "element." Sliding doors on both sides, plus the rear hatch indicates that it would be the space equivalent of the Bradley fighting vehicle or the soviet hind. Bring in troops, defend yourself, pick them back up.
To me it’s like having an old muscle car. The exterior seems to hold up better than the new lighter weight paneling. But the older models can sure take a heck of a lot more damage than newer ships but also probably require more maintenance. Definitely heavier and less maneuverable but sturdier and more reliable. The fact that he was able to get that thing to fly. May need some upgrades at some point but perfectly suited to take a lot of damage and get from point A to B
I always thought that the ship just looked like a brick with two big engines on top, which always made me wonder why the people at Disney tried to promote the ship as "The coolest ship in the galaxy", when that title clearly belongs to the Falcon.

Id hardly call the razorcrest a "gunship" its more akin to a lightly armed freighter tbh. I think to count as a gunship it needs like 5 times the weapons that it already has😂 Plus my guy please for the sake of the child get a new ship, might i suggest the Tie Defender. Now THATS A SHIP😉👌🤣
The Razor Crest is a military H1 Humvee stripped down and sold from an army surplus store and now re-purposed as a general 4WD pickup truck by the Mando. I will say this though, it is reliable and self serviceable. I can't say if any other space craft can be maintained by one person without a trusty astromech or Wookie at their side.
during the era he's in, the final days of the Republic (Clone Wars era) was sometimes referred to as the Old Republic. Especially since the new dominant faction is the New Republic
I've been thinking about how things could be re-arranged and upgraded in the Razor Crest. Improvements to utilize the limited available space and storage areas better. Especially to make a better sleep rack for Din. Jamming himself in that small area looks rily uncomfortable. Also other upgrades on the Crest including her weapons, as you mentioned. Install some missiles on loaded racks inside on her lower sides, that can be extended out of the ship and deployed. Tip those missiles with Beskar. Rack up some speeder bikes on one wall of the cargo area. Install drop down sleep racks on the other wall, to accommodate others who are traveling with Din. Also, she could use a small scout ship, assist ship-carried up top of the ship between the engines area, in its own attached housing that is accessible from inside the Crest. And she needs her own Beskar armor. And a nice paint job, with the Mandalorian symbol on the front, and Din's clan symbol on the sides. And outer lights that will illuminate her when she leaves a battle victorious, with flags flying. Now, where to find a lot of Beskar got me to thinking as well. There may be a slew of Beskar armor on the fallen Mandalorians as they lay lightly covered by soil over time on The Purge battlefield. Determined and dedicated individual(s) could locate the fallen scattered across the battlefield, bury them with dignity in an area together, leaving their helmets on their heads and their signet pauldron resting upon their hearts because we are not savages-and keep the knowledge of where they are buried on the down low so no one disturbs their graves to take the rest of their Beskar. Then take the recovered Beskar to be used again for Mandalorians and their ships. Din has a clan to look after that can grow in numbers. A small fleet of Razor Crests would thrill the daylights out of me, haha. So, yeah, been thinking about this kind of stuff, too. The Crest is a classic. She can be even more awesome than she is right now.
One thing I'd add to increase the ship's defense abilities would be a turret. Ships like the Millenium Falcon and the Ghost, despite being heavy, massive and to some extent slow targets compared to starfighters were still more than capable of holding their own in a battle. In fact, since Star Wars starships are heavily inspired by WW2 aircrafts, it's surprising the Razor Crest doesn't have one. Only downside is that automated turrets are rare in Star Wars iirc, so he'd need a teammate or a droid.
If the razorcrest is classified as a gunship then it's classified wrong. That classification is extremely stupid. A gunship is not a big ship with guns, it's a ship that is primarily focused on guns. The razorcrest is clearly not that, nor ever was. It clearly is and always has been a transport first and foremost.
It is a Star Wars Huey helicopter, which during Vietnam, Which was a Utility design, but it has been used as gunships. The Razor Crest today feels more Utility than gunship. What we seeing today might be very different than what she was in her prime.

Mando's episode "The passenger" Had a LOT of camera shots and zooms that reminded me of Firefly. Not even to mention that in Firefly's "The Message" episode, they were flying through a snowy chasm to evade authorities also.
After all that has recently happened he would be wise to take the ship back to his friend on Tatooine snd have her fix it before continuing on. The next trouble he runs into is going to be really bad if he does not fix the ship better or replace it.
With the amount of damage the Razor Crest is taking, I'm wondering if the creators are building up for it to be replaced by something else towards the end of a season.
The Razor Crest reminds me of the legendary RAF Chinook helicopter "Bravo Novmember" which took serious beatings during the Falklands War and kept going to the wars end.
For a bounty hunter's ship it works. Cargo hold is nice, the cockpit is big enough for more than just a pilot, but lacks heavy armaments and is less aerodynamic than most in atmosphere. It works for the Mandolorean.
As much as I love the Falcon, I think the Razor Crest has a better cockpit, as it's in the front-middle instead of unevenly to the right. Just my thoughts on comparing the two ships.

Comparing it to a fighter doesn't seem to be a fair fight. It's a "classic" freighter/gunship.

This was a really cool video. My favorite part of Vader Immortal was the introduction bit where the player gets to wander around part of the ship; I would love more games and media that show the interior of ships in Star Wars
It's an outdated ship, he probably bought on the cheap and custom modified by a merchant. But his is better off getting a more expensive ship.

When I think about it, all the flaws and character and troubles handed to this particular Razor Crest ship are really what make it so damn endearing. THIS specific ship will always live in my heart as one of the most precious and lovable of the Star Wars saga, and I hope it's living like a Boss Pimp up there in starship heaven!

If he continues as he is I believe that he will need a newer ship at some point. It is my personal opinion that when the razor dies it will be in some spectacular way. Most likely in the middle of season two or the finale of season two.

Yeah in the first episode we saw toting around all of those carbonate things which means he used the space. So it does what he needed it to

@@GenerationTech no but he had a whole rack of them. While the razor crest has flaws it served it's purpose of being a hard to track ship with space for transporting bounties. He also really doesn't have any other option.

This is the channel I watch most on TH-cam, and I bought the "Humanity First" T-shirt. I run their "most recent" Playlist. After getting into work in the morning, I turn on Generation Tech while I catch up on emails that came in overnight; I turn on the phones and press pause as the calls come in. After 2 hours, I take a coffee and smoke break and the play continues. I generally do this all day at work. When I get home I read, watch movies and whatever shows I'm following. When I'm ready to go to bed I put my earbuds back in, put the volume really low, and play Generation Tech. I listen/watch every video 3 to 4 times.
Well... seems like we no longer need to worry about that ...

I know this was a video strictly on its flaws, but I just wanna touch on some of the advantages because I personally love the Razorcrest:
1. Durable and Reliable as HELL. Already this thing has been looted by Jawas then rebuilt, Crash landed on a Feral World, had its engines shot on multiple occassions, attacked by alien spiders, attacked by a Ravinak and crash landed into the waters of Trest. This thing is a beast, and generally speaking reliability comes before all other things because if your ship aint flying in the first place all the fancy bells and whistles don't matter. This thing can definitely take some hits.
2. Reverse Thrusters - This is a small one, but the ability to quickly change the direction of ones momentum is actually deceptively useful for a craft that is usually outmanuevered. A neat trick!
3. Stealthy and Innocuous. The ship isn't that large and as said, does not have a homimg beacon. It's not a flashy ship and so usually doesn't attract much unwanted attention.
These are just the ones I could come up with. I really think that with just a few changes it would be much more servicable. A good repair job, some upgrades to the engine and weapon systems, an astromech and maybe some additional space would all be quite lucrative!

I think we missed a few points. One of which being, he's broke. As we saw in the first episode, he was scraping by for the cost of fuel. So, it makes sense that he wouldn't spend money on things like missiles or torpedoes when the ship was mainly used as a transport prior to that. I think we also haven't seen it flown in it's "element." Sliding doors on both sides, plus the rear hatch indicates that it would be the space equivalent of the Bradley fighting vehicle or the soviet hind. Bring in troops, defend yourself, pick them back up.

They're not "strike foils", the engines on the Razorcrest have thrust reversers so it could slowdown and stop easier.
To me it’s like having an old muscle car. The exterior seems to hold up better than the new lighter weight paneling. But the older models can sure take a heck of a lot more damage than newer ships but also probably require more maintenance. Definitely heavier and less maneuverable but sturdier and more reliable. The fact that he was able to get that thing to fly. May need some upgrades at some point but perfectly suited to take a lot of damage and get from point A to B

The Razor Crest is a military H1 Humvee stripped down and sold from an army surplus store and now re-purposed as a general 4WD pickup truck by the Mando. I will say this though, it is reliable and self serviceable. I can't say if any other space craft can be maintained by one person without a trusty astromech or Wookie at their side.
When you said that it was commisioned during the old republic I wondered how it survived 3 millenia.

during the era he's in, the final days of the Republic (Clone Wars era) was sometimes referred to as the Old Republic. Especially since the new dominant faction is the New Republic

I've been thinking about how things could be re-arranged and upgraded in the Razor Crest. Improvements to utilize the limited available space and storage areas better. Especially to make a better sleep rack for Din. Jamming himself in that small area looks rily uncomfortable. Also other upgrades on the Crest including her weapons, as you mentioned. Install some missiles on loaded racks inside on her lower sides, that can be extended out of the ship and deployed. Tip those missiles with Beskar. Rack up some speeder bikes on one wall of the cargo area. Install drop down sleep racks on the other wall, to accommodate others who are traveling with Din. Also, she could use a small scout ship, assist ship-carried up top of the ship between the engines area, in its own attached housing that is accessible from inside the Crest. And she needs her own Beskar armor. And a nice paint job, with the Mandalorian symbol on the front, and Din's clan symbol on the sides. And outer lights that will illuminate her when she leaves a battle victorious, with flags flying.
Now, where to find a lot of Beskar got me to thinking as well. There may be a slew of Beskar armor on the fallen Mandalorians as they lay lightly covered by soil over time on The Purge battlefield. Determined and dedicated individual(s) could locate the fallen scattered across the battlefield, bury them with dignity in an area together, leaving their helmets on their heads and their signet pauldron resting upon their hearts because we are not savages-and keep the knowledge of where they are buried on the down low so no one disturbs their graves to take the rest of their Beskar. Then take the recovered Beskar to be used again for Mandalorians and their ships. Din has a clan to look after that can grow in numbers. A small fleet of Razor Crests would thrill the daylights out of me, haha. So, yeah, been thinking about this kind of stuff, too. The Crest is a classic. She can be even more awesome than she is right now.
Those are some really great suggestions.
In my opinion, there's not enough armor on top. Leaves the ship open to an orbital strike, for instance.

One thing I'd add to increase the ship's defense abilities would be a turret. Ships like the Millenium Falcon and the Ghost, despite being heavy, massive and to some extent slow targets compared to starfighters were still more than capable of holding their own in a battle.
In fact, since Star Wars starships are heavily inspired by WW2 aircrafts, it's surprising the Razor Crest doesn't have one. Only downside is that automated turrets are rare in Star Wars iirc, so he'd need a teammate or a droid.

Turns out the biggest design problem with the Razor Crest is that it couldn't withstand a hit from a heavy turbolaser while its shields were down.

If the razorcrest is classified as a gunship then it's classified wrong. That classification is extremely stupid. A gunship is not a big ship with guns, it's a ship that is primarily focused on guns. The razorcrest is clearly not that, nor ever was. It clearly is and always has been a transport first and foremost.
It is a Star Wars Huey helicopter, which during Vietnam, Which was a Utility design, but it has been used as gunships. The Razor Crest today feels more Utility than gunship. What we seeing today might be very different than what she was in her prime.

The Razor Crest reminds me of the legendary RAF Chinook helicopter "Bravo Novmember" which took serious beatings during the Falklands War and kept going to the wars end.
For a bounty hunter's ship it works. Cargo hold is nice, the cockpit is big enough for more than just a pilot, but lacks heavy armaments and is less aerodynamic than most in atmosphere. It works for the Mandolorean.
The biggest flaw with the Razorcrest is the pilot constantly not locking up when he leaves the vessel or turning on the automated defense system.

As much as I love the Falcon, I think the Razor Crest has a better cockpit, as it's in the front-middle instead of unevenly to the right. Just my thoughts on comparing the two ships.
