Thank you, Darqui....as one of the directors of Spirit, you really made my day with your wonderful commentary. I loved hearing your impressions and cannot believe this movie is still bringing enjoyment so many years after making it. I'm very proud we took the chances we did to bring this story to life....thank you again.
OMG hi Lorna! 😭 This is the biggest honor! I can't believe you watched this video and I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much, I'm so grateful. You and Kelly honestly did such a masterful job at crafting such a powerful gem that needs to be talked about even more, and yes, you guys deserve so much praise for creating one of the best animated films from DreamWorks imo! Can't get enough of this movie. Thank YOU for this gift of a story, I'll never forget it and I hope it continues to touch more people's hearts in coming years ❤️
Lorna, your movie has brought me so much joy and happiness since I first watched it all those years ago. This movie inspired me to work with Mustang horses and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I have you and the rest of the cast and crew of this magnificent movie to thank. Just thank you thank you thank you, I'll never be able to put into words how thankful I am for this gift ❤❤
Ah yes, the movie that opened my door to becoming an animal nerd haha... Just to let you know when i was in kindergarden, when kids wanted to be doctors, police officers, etc... i wanted to be a horse because of this, no you heard me right, a horse 🤣🤣🤣 But seriously, Spirit will always be my number one movie even after 2 decades... it's beautiful and visually captivating, the visual storytelling actually helped me understand since i didn't know english at that time, it felt like there was no language barrier there. Thank you and thank the team who created this movie for creating this personal masterpiece to my childhood ❤️
You have created a movie that has stood the test of time. I have enjoyed this movie time after time over the years and now my kids are watching it on repeat. There are so many things you all did that makes this film so unique. I can only hope that young film makers see this movie so that it inspires them to take risks. What a beautiful masterpiece. It’s one of those movies that you love so much that when others question you about the film, you begin by saying “where do I even start…”
Fun Fact: As a Lakota person, they actually do speak very simple Lakota during their scenes. When the boys are playing the one says “I’m a bear now! Run!” And the others ones say “Run!” And when the little girl is playing with spirit and her mom calls her she says “That’s bad! Come here!”
Wooow that's awesome to hear! Aw, that's so cute honestly, love that they actually cared to put these details and include the real language, I love this movie more and more ❤️
@darquidarqui I did some research while doing an in depth breakdown of why this movie is so good, and I found out that Little Creek's actor is legitimately a Native American and had input on the portrayal of the village! That made me really happy to see.
Yeah I watched this movie with my cousins a few months ago and we all disliked the Colonel and his men but at the end we all ended up respecting the Colonel for letting him go
It’s a great scene! But as I watch this movie again, I can’t help but take note of the Colonel giving Spirit his freedom while he will realistically continue taking away the freedom of indigenous people. Since they are in progress of taking over the land.
@@CelestialAsteria Yeah, I didn’t mind the colonel bowing his head, but I never got Spirit bowing back because the colonel will just presumably continue colonizing the West 💀
13:20 native american children who were sent to residential schools also had haircuts forced on them as part of the effort to strip away their cultural identities. idk it's a little detail (and also probably, mostly, to show the passage of time) but i like that the movie has spirit's mane grow out after he stops actively trying to escape the lakota
This movie is absolutely beautiful. The epic story, sprawling landscapes, amazing musical score, and perfectly paced bonding between Spirit and Little Creek will forever cement this in my eyes as one of DreamWorks' most underrated classics.
Absolutey agreed! The whole film is so beautifully and thoughtfully constructed that it kinda boggles my mind that I hadn't heard too much about this movie in film discourse outside of my friends. Definitely one of DreamWorks best imo! 🙌
Amazing little fact: The native scenes are packed with the actual lakota language!! It's broken but there!! Nearly cried seeing how much native heritage is in this movie
Rain was named rain because in the book her mother seaira gave birth during a rain storm and her father is named storm. Love this movie. I have the whole thing memorized
@@jaybirdrosewater-holmes7071 4 actually. They lead up to the movie with the 4th book being the movie. The first one talks about Rain’s grandmother and how she escapes the hands of the military and ends up in the wild. The second book follows rains mother as she navigates a harsh winter and the old stallion being defeated by a young stallion. Book 3 follows spirit’s mother who was a wild mare who got separated from her original heard
Spirit really is a beautifully underrated movie. It wasn't until I rewatched it as an adult that I was told about the film's anti-colonialism message, especially the allegory for Native Americans residential schools:
How Spirit was kidnapped from his family, brought to a place where others like him had been assimilated, had his hair forcefully cut, got forced into new and uncomfortable clothes (in this case, a saddle and harness), was denied food and water, got abused and degraded by a racist white man in power and any resistance was threatened with violence and death.
And given how the Colonel was heavily modelled after/inspired by General George Custer (a man who played a major part in the genocide and suppression of Native Americans), I'd hardly call it a coincidence.
Thank you for this comment! Within the sheer beauty of this movie, I really admire and appreciate the serious and mature approact to such important and delicate topics, it really is a superb examination of this era. That was probably the idea now that you mention it! Love this movie more and more
OKAY this is my favorite reaction on youtube ever, I rarely see youtubers pay SO MUCH attention to a movie (especially ones ''for kids'') as you do, doing actual research about the movie afterwards and editing in their comments and thoughts instead of just going ''thats so cool'' for the whole video. Im so glad you enjoyed this movie, being able to relate to you in genuinely enjoying watching spirit made this experience so much better
Oh yaayyyy thank you so much, I'm honored! ❤️ this movie really inspired me to edit and research as best as possible, it's just so good. Really happy to bring a worthy reaction! 😃
Spirit’s mother’s name is Esperanza, so him seeing her and getting the strength to continue is particularly beautiful. Hope feeds the Spirit. I love this movie so much I still have the VHS! I have been looking for the books but they’re impossible to get! They tell about what happens before the story of the movie. Rain’s parents Sierra and Storm, and her grandparents Bonita and Raphael. And also the name of Spirit’s dad, Strider, his mom Esperanza and his grandmother Alma. The family line really is “Soul - Hope - Spirit”
"Hope feeds the Spirit", can't believe I didn't even think abou that, that's beautiful! Love this movie so muc 🙌 VHS team let's go lol! Wow, I can't believe there's so much backstory out there! Really want to get more into it one day. That's just so sweet, love the thought behing the names! ❤️
If you've ever been kicked, stepped on or otherwise bonked by a horse, you KNOW how much that shit hurts, they are SOLID beasts. This is one of my fav movies, such a gem.
something that is often overlooked ist the fact that, when the colonel tries to shoot little creek approaching him during the invasion of the camp, Rain sees it and blocks the bullet with her body by rearing and turning. horses have massive muscles in their shoulders, if that same bullet hit Little Creek, he probably would have died. There weren't many chances to give depth to her character but she is one loyal, selfless little horsey. especially because it wasn't something she had time to think about, it was just the instinct to protect her human friend kicking in.
That's a great detail, yes, thank you for pointing that out! I actually love those little moments because it uses body language to give characterization in such an effective and emotionally powerful way, such great character work across the board honestly
The eagle resembles freedom. And that first separation is Spirit losing his freedom by being captured. While the second eagle showing up but leaving (I’m assuming bc that eagle just isn’t the same eagle as the first so it doesn’t recognize spirit as a friend) again is the sign of him almost gaining it back but not being truly free yet.
It's interesting about that second eagle, I didn't think about it first time watch, I swore it was the same one lol! But yeah, love the way freedom was visually told!
I’m so glad you hadn’t watched this yet. This reaction is lovely. Your deep appreciation reminds me why THIS is my favorite moving starring animated animals. Your emotions are palpable and editing is hilarious/insightful. Thank you
This movie is the top of mh favorites. As the young indigenous girl I was that longed for representation and as the woman I am now that is horse obsessed, it truly does represent the effects of colonization in its true light.
So glad to read that this was a childhood favorite to many, yourself included! Gosh, can't imagine how overwhelming this movies should've been as a kid. So powerful!
Your editing MAN! Still always gets me, I cant imagine just how LONG these take to do, even just to flash the little news articles up on the screen, from interviews etc about the production of the movie. INSANE!!!! This soundtrack is one of my favourites from any movies ever, the entire thing is up there with things like Pirates of the Caribbean and Interstellar for me! The "Nope you count" Aww counter made me LOL hahahaha
Thank you so so much Moscooo! they take a lot lol but it's worth it! This film really inspired me and it needs more love, it's just that good Yessss, I'm blown away I didn't know it was by Hans Zimmer! And Pirates and Interstellar's scores are also 2 of my favs, you have some amazing taste, unsurprisingly ❤ Hahahaha that was it for me, there were just SO MANY aww moments 😂🙌
As a child about the same age as the one that said "byebye horsey" i retread this movie *so many times* it started to break down/glitch *one time* and i immediately put it away never to touch it again because i love the movie so much i didn't wanna lose it, even if it meant i couldn't watch it anymore. Then i got introduced to the wonders of modern technology, where i can watch pretty much anything whenever i want without a physical copy. I've rewatched this movie over the years since, at least once every 5 years, and it never gets old. Still just as wonderful as when i was a child.
Aahhh that's so sweet actually! ❤️ it's such a wonderful gem, can't believe it took me this long to watch it. Can't imagine how great it must have been to watch this movie as a kid!
@@darquidarqui Oh trust me, as a kid, it feels like you're INSIDE the movie and it's awesome. This movie is the reason i wasn't completely terrified the first time i met a horse in person and was placed on her back XD She was an older dapple-grey that had mostly gone white with her left ear 'n' eye blind 'n' deaf, but still gentle & sweet ❤ Her mate was a more wild one who looked, i kid you not, JUST LIKE SPIRIT and i had to be reminded not to squeal with joy cuz it might spook em. He wasn't "broken" and didn't like most people, especially not trying to get on his back, but he was okay with me. idk if it's cuz i was so small, or if it's cuz my goofy ass used to "sneak" sweet tea and carrots to the horses when i thought no one was looking. [The adults definitely knew, tho; i have never been a stealthy person] Sidenote: They had a baby and he was beautiful and looked like his papa but with a white blaze and lighter mane/tail color. Okay okay, i'll stop gushing now XD i just love this movie so much; brings the nostalgia~
I also watched spirit when I was a kid, but I was a bit older (maybe around 9?)! It's always been one of my favorites of all time. Have you seen Wolfwalkers? It's a newer than Spirit (came out around 2020), but it's one I see as very similar to this movie.
I think out of the million things to sing praises for in this movie, the sound design is just amazing, they really chose the best horse sounds that fit them so perfecly. I always feel a pang in my heart hearing Rain crying for help, and her little sounds of pain later
I totally agree, the horse sounds gave so much more emotion than I would've though, one of the best creative choices of the movie. Yes, Rain's sounds in particular break me, so well done. Gosh this movie is phenomenal ❤️
This is just a beautiful yet sad movie, it’s so sad when Spirit gets captured because it’s like real life. People catch horses and sometimes they’re abusive towards the horses. Edit: such an underrated reaction tho
Only a couple minutes in and I’m LOVINGGG your energy and the editing just amplifies it In the best way possible it makes me feel like I’m seeing this for the first time !!!! Definitely going to be a long time supporter.
Thank you for really appreciating this movie for how good it really is!! Most dont take it seriously because its a kids movie, but it is just THE BEST animated film ive ever seen!! Its just the prefect combo of next level animation, music, storytelling and characters!! Just ... So good!
Ooh Ive seen this movie like 200 times but I just realized why her name might be rain! Spirit sees her right after being in the desert, not recieving any food or water for daaays, and she could be like a symbol of rain after a long drought, refreshing and giving him new life, maybe!
This film is just pure class! One of the best I've ever seen for sure ❤️ That's actually my FAVORITE theory on the name of Rain, that's awesome! Thank you for this 🙌
This movie is truly incredible and i loved your reactions and comments. As a whole most artists agree horses are VERY difficult to draw. Most video games can't even make them half as realistic. But Dramworks did it, and it was the perfect decision to give them eyebrows to show emotion without making them look too uncanny valley. The singer for this when all out, there was one day he was even really tired/sickly but he still recorded the song and used his rough voice to make the song hit hard. Truly a childhood classic.
Thank youuu! Oh yes, the reliance on the horses being so expressive truly paid off, every emotional beat is so well done. Oh wow, I love to hear the commitment. What a film! 💯
Rain's name was never really brought up in the movie (except once) but a creator of the movie once said her full lakota name (like Spirit-who-could-not-be-broken) is Runs-long-in-the-Rain. Apparently she was born during a rainstorm? I can't recall exactly.
Wow, I watch a lot of reactors, and none of them go back and add connections they made or things they learned when they researched the movie afterwards during the editing phase like you do. It's really neat! I've watched this movie a hundred times (seriously, I distinctly remember watching this movie once a week as a kid for awhile) and still learned so much while watching your reaction! You have a new subscriber here.
Dreamworks makes such masterpieces... Prince of Egypt, Spirit, HTTYD, Kung Fu Panda, Megamind, Road to El Dorado... and so many moreee ❤❤ My personal favourite is Prince of Egypt (also my favourite animated movie and one of my favourite movies ever), but all of the others hold a very special place in my heart too.
Totally agree! I really don't know which is my favorite, so many to choose from. Prince of Egypt is another masterpiece, yesss! Spirit is really high in my list right now
@@darquidarqui my favourite thing about Spirit is probably the facial expressions, especially the gaze. So many feelings conveyed just through the eyes. Also, kiddos interacting with animals make me AWWWW... and about Prince of Egypt the complex relationship between Moses and Rameses. I think the sibling relationships deserve their recognition, and it tore my heart apart that Moses had to sacrifice his relationship with Rameses to free his people. We see quite enemies to friends/lovers/sibling love, but in reverse I don't think I've watched as much. Both of movies have STUNNING music and BEAUTIFUL animation.
I have watched this movie so many times during my childhood! I think this is the movie that first got me into horses, so this film is special in my heart.
Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed this video, I freaking love this movie so much Full uncut watch along version up in Patreon! Next movie reactions are: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022), and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)! Stay tuned!
I'm pretty sure the term "breaking" a horse has been really twisted over time. Originally natives used this term to mean "breaking down the walls between you and the animal" but now (as the movie shows), its taken as "breaking down an animals spirit" (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here)
@@darquidarqui 🥰 also I'd thought id say, I really like your commentary style and I find your "awes" and emotions very relatable ♥ keep up the great work ^-^
This has been my favorite movie for as long as I can remember. I was only a few months old when it came out, so it was a huge part of my childhood; I was OBSESSED with it, the animation, the music, the fact that it was a horse, everything. Spirit was nominated for the best Animated Film of 2002 (or something like that), but it lost to Spirited Away (which I also enjoy). I don’t think I’ve seen many reactors get as into the story like you did, so I’m glad I found this channel. I’ve seen way too many reactions where the reactor stays pretty much silent or just keeps a straight face the whole time. Im definitely subscribing
Spirited Away is anther masterpiece, one of my favorite movies actually. That was a great year of animation with Spirit! This film really blew me away 💯 Thank you, really appreciate it! Hope you enjoy the rest of the content and future movie reactions as well! 🙌
I've never seen any other reactor have written commentary on certain scenes, this is awesome! It's like reading an annotation from someone else in a book. Immediate subscription
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! I've been trying out this kind of commentary for a while now! 😃 P.S. AMAZING pfp, love it! Aragorn always! I'm a big LOTR fan ❤️
Thank youuuu! I'm so glad you enjoyed this we are all insane then lmao, and I was holding my tears so much! Totally caught off guard, the last scenes just destroyed me though 🥺
Oh I ugly cry every time I watch this film. It had me feeling all kinds of powerful emotions when I was a kid. This has to be one of the best animated films ever made, and incredibly underrated. The soundtrack, the cinematic storytelling, everything was so breathtaking. I understand and appreciate it even more as an adult. They did an incredible job showing the injustices and atrocities committed against nature and Native Americans during the expansion of the West, while also being kid-friendly about it. Yet the ending is so inspirational and hopeful. Whatever evils and perils you come across can be overcome, as long as you hold onto hope.
So emotionally resonant! i agree, has to be one of the very best animation projects I've ever seen, too. And beautifully said! It's just such a complete story and experience, wish it's more talked about today!
wow okay, so i suddenly thought of this movie today, it was a part of my childhood and I decided to watch many many movie commentaries about it, and honestly i think you were my favorite one out of all of them, just your reactions were perfect, exactly what i love about the movie you pointed out, your editing, and you putting little article clips on the screen really means you cared enough to research about it afterword, thank you so much for that reaction that was truly amazing, i have subscribed and i will be watching aaaaallll of your stuff in the next few days lol
Oh yay, thank you so much, really glad you liked it this much! Oh yes, I was so curious about the behind the scenes and other details of the movie, this story really, really absorbed me! Thank you so muc once again, I hope you have enjoyed the rest of reactions and what will come out next here! 🙌❤️
I tried so hard not to cry as I watched this reaction. But the tears, they were never far away from the very start. And during "Sound the Bugle" I was finally done for, once again. Things only went downhill from there, too. This movie always destroys me. The soundtrack, animation and visuals and everything is perfection. I think yours has to be my favorite Spirit movie reaction. You took it all to heart just like I do.
One of the things that always gets me about this movie is knowing that after that happy ending... we all know what happens to that beautiful homeland. The pain of losing the heart of the land the way we have is so sharp and deep throughout this movie. There wasn't really a happy ending.
That is very, very true. I actually didn't think about it until I discussed this movie with a friend who also loves this movie. The themes this story presents really resonate, there's just so much beauty and darkness in this film.
This was my absolute favorite movie as a child, and it still is! I have watched it more times than I can count, to the point that I can retell the entire movie simply by listening to it, I know every scene. The animation of the horses is also really incredible, especially since it's all hand-drawn! The music, sound, and visuals of this movie are AMAZING, and I've always felt that this movie is so underrated not only in those ways but also in its complex themes and plot. I'm so happy that you watched it and appreciated it so much!!
It's just really that good, yes! Oh yeah, I miss 2D animation in movie theaters, and I wish to have experience this in the cinema! Yesss, found so so much to love about this film! Truly a masterpiece in my mind ❤️
Another slam dunk: 10/10 review for a 10/10 film. You're currently my favorite (and only subscribed to) react channel - you give us the reaction AND you spend God-knows how much time doing extra research after the fact. You add so much content to the reaction itself that your channel ought to set a bar for the genre, imo. Thanks for also setting me on a film that I bypassed when I was a kid. (Finally: we pronounce "colonel" like "kernel"- eg "kernel of corn". English can be ridiculous, and I have mad respect for how well you speak it. I mean, you pulled "catharsis" out of thin air! Half of US students couldn't. :P)
Yo, thank you so much! That means a lot, truly, I try to give my best with every single video no matter what ❤ This movie sparked greatly my interest in the behind the scenes of it! And noted haha! Thank you so much for the amzing support!
Spirit's "There's danger here, leave, NOW!!" At the beginning has no joke stuck with me ever since I first watched it at 6 years old. It's such a frantic, desperate noise that it immediately triggers my fight or flight. Even without any words, it still 100% conveys the terror and the adrenaline. Edit: also the frame at 32:19 is literally chilling. Spirits slightly opened eye tells so much. You can actually SEE that he knows exactly what will happen. He knows the humans are gonna take him away again, he knows that he'll be forced away from Rain, and he presses his cheek even harsher against hers, praying it's a dream, but knowing deep down that his nightmare will come true again. You can literally FEEL his dread and conflict. Best movie ever, hands down.
It's such a bleak moment, I love how serious the tone got and how committed the movie was to it pretty much the whole time. And oh yes, that eye movement from Spirit is incredibly eerie and dark and sad. Still can't believe this movie exists and it's been more than 20 years. A masterpiece indeed! 💯
They really decided early on that other then the tiny bit of narrative that spirit WOULD talk but through the songs, they are esentially what he's thinking/feeling.
@@darquidarqui yeah :> I know you mentioned the not talking but wasn't sure if you mentioned the singing in particular, it's such a great movie and one of my favorites :>
25:06 yes! I definitely have. We adopted a cat who spent his whole life in a cage, he was 6 months old.💔 We had to work with him on many things, but mostly had to show him endless love so he’d understand we had no harmful intentions. He now cuddles and everything! He just still refuses to be picked up, kinda like spirit refusing to be ridden. My cat wasn’t all that sure how to exist outside a cage, poor baby didn’t even know he could jump if he just tried. Never had the opportunity.
this was my ultimate favorite movie as a kid. i used to put on the 'get off of my back' scene and jump around on my hands and knees along with the music lolol
Spirit has always been one of my favorite movies since I was little. I even have a stuffed horse that I named after the movie. I just want to say how much I enjoy your reaction, I really don't think you overanalyze things. On the contrary, it is very beautiful the way you take the time to pay attention to even the smallest detail of what is happening. I am a student of language and literature, and believe me, we are taught to analyze language not only spoken, but reflected in all our surroundings, so the fact that you do this fills me with complete happiness because you are trying to understand in a way more like what is said. That makes me look forward to your reactions so much, since you pick up messages that sometimes others don't. Your videos are very good, your reactions amazing. You have a great gift for making people happy. Keep it up ❤ *sorry if it's a lot to read*
That's so cute! I really want to ride a horse now ❤️ Thank you thank you! Hahaha yo, I really appreciate that, since I'm just obsessed with analyzing media over and over again. I was a student of English Literature so this is very reassuring to read! Great reminder that media analysis and criticism has great educational bases. Thank you once again, I'm really happy to provide valuable and joyful entertainment! I'll try to keep up! ❤️❤️ Not at all! 😄
This is one of my favorite movie from my childhood, one of the few movies that isn't from Studio Ghibli that accompanied me my whole life and that I will never forget. I remember playing as Rain (she was called River in the french version) or Spirit during recess when I was 7 or 8, and listening to the songs when I was in highschool (it was a hard time for me so the song where Spirit is in the train really resonated with me). Anyway, enough rambling, I'm glad you watched it, this movie is a masterpiece
Studio Ghibli movies are also SO awesome! Oh, River! That's interesting wow, I mean that song in the train is so powerful, like the whole movie! Thank you for supporting! It really is a masterpiece
Not one of my favorites but I remember liking this movie as a kid. Between the Get Off of My Back sequence and the entire train segment it's.... pretty stellar. Glad you enjoyed it so much dude.
This is the first video of yours I've watched, and I really like the combination of your recorded first impressions and the thoughtful commentary you added later. It means we get both spontaneity and insightful commentary at the same time!
Great reaction to a great movie! The story, the themes and the music are soo beautiful, but my favourite part is the animation. As someone who likes to draw (and mostly animals), I am always in awe of the way they captured the movements and mannerisms of horses in such a natural way and made it all flow so effortlessly. Just beautiful.
This movie is so absolutely beautiful and one of my childhood and family favourites, i cried a lot, i listen to the amazing soundtrack so much, this is why DreamWorks is my favourite animation studio, i loved the scene with spirit and the little kid, every time i see it i almost cry. i love all the little details you put in this, and yes it's also a pet peeve of mine when they don't go to the sides.❤ Edit: I counted how many "awwws" there were and I may not be accurate but I got 56 counting the first 29 if course XD. And at the 8th one I guessed that there'd be 10 more, but there were 48 more instead! How silly of me to think 10 is a lot
So awesome to hear that it's a childhood and family gem! DreamWorks really is one of the best animation studios at their peak. Haha that little scene is so cute! Hahaha so glad to hear I'm not the only one with that pet peeve 😂 Wow! Thank you for counting haha! Damn, I really uttered that a few times, didn't I? 😂
Found another great reactor (love the editing too)! And you've found a new subscriber. Anyway, this is my second favorite animated Disney movie. Right after TLK, and right before Brother Bear. Also, 19:16 gave me nostalgia I wasn't ready for, because it reminded me of the gameboy game. Lol.
This was the movie I used to watch everyday for weeks as a kid and I still watch it every year around Christmas :) Nothing means more comfort to me than this movie. So glad you reacted to it, I almost died of excitement lol. I'm still watching and liking your vids, even though I wasn't active in the comments or in the premiere chat for some time. My depression caught up to me and I didn't want to interact with anyone or anything lol. I'm on medication for some weeks now tho and feeling a lot better :) Keep up the great work
Costia! I'm so glad to read from you again! ❤️ Aww that's so sweet, great tradition! I have that movie tradition for Lord of the Rings movies, once every Christmas! I'm so glad you enjoyed this reaction, I'm actually really happy to share my experience first time watching over here ❤️ My biggest hug and sincere vibes for you Costia! I really appreciate your love and support for the channel. I'm glad to hear you feel a lot better, I hope you continue to recover and stay well, take care. See you in the next videos, thank you so much! ❤️😄
My friends girlfriend worked on this movie so was able to see pencil sketches from preproduction long before anyone knew this was being made. It was cool. Growing up with horses my whole life I had always loved the fact they made this movie from the perspective of a horse. And yes Rain made me into a horse furry.
That's so cool, the behind the scenes and prep for a movie is so fascinating for this kind of films, the approach is definitely unique in this one. That's so cool, this movie really made me love horses so much more than before. And I love that haha Rain supremacy! 🙌
I’ve never seen anyone react to this movie and I’m so glad I watched yours. Picked up on some details I never noticed with the 100 times I’ve watched this movie. The sharing of feelings in certain scenes. This movie always gives me goosebumps
4:30 - Good for you, for correcting yourself (onscreen) about calling the bison "buffalo." Major kudos for that. Some people don't even know that there are no buffalo in North America, so they could only have been bison.
Spirit was my favourite movie as a kid. I have watched it HUNDERDS of times, but this was the first time i watched it in a long time. The way i just ugly cried the last third of the movie. I did not remember it to be this sad from watching it as a kid...
i loved your reaction and analyzation of this movie so much! really, really agree with everything you said. this was a childhood favorite of mine. i saw it in the theaters as a kid, and yes, i sobbed lol. my parents were wonderful and went and bought it with me and my sibling the second it came out on DVD, and i proceeded to watch it millions of times while growing up. i was already a horse kid, this movie really only enabled my love of horses haha. but watching it as i got older, i came to really understand the depth and beauty and meaning of this film, and it's themes of freedom and undying determination. truly a masterpiece film with gorgeous art and imagery, raw, realistic characters, and unforgettable messaging. and the MUSIC, oh my goodness i had the soundtrack on repeat. hans zimmer's epic and iconic score for this movie is criminally underrated when it's some of his best work imo, the emotions in the music is so palpable. and bryan adams did a wonderful job as well, his singing and the lyrics were incredibly heartfelt and a perfect musical narration of spirit's life and feelings! to date, the soundtrack--especially the score--for this movie is one of my favorite of all time. it's very hard to beat. i will say, things did unfortunately used to be that horrible when it came to how people worked with and treated horses, but it's gotten a lot better over the years as people have really come to understand them. the US marks on those army horses are called brands, hot iron/fire branding in particular. it's a practice still done today, though much differently. cattle still tend to get hot iron brands since it lasts permanently and is cheaper. but horses almost exclusively are freeze-branded now, which is far less stressful or painful than hot iron brands, though it is more expensive, and sometimes there are issues with them and they don't last/become illegible. american mustangs that were legally caught (by the bureau of land management aka BLM) always have freeze brands not only as a way to identify, but also as a protection for mustangs as a whole (it's rightfully illegal to just go and catch a wild mustang for yourself since they're federally protected--and it goes without saying that killing them is highly illegal as well--you can only adopt the ones that get rounded up at BLM adoption centers). so their brands prove that they were acquired legally and their owners were inspected and approved to care for them, and helps prevent them from ending up being sent to slaughter houses. also happily the term "breaking" a horse isn't really used anymore for obvious reasons, it's more commonly called "gentling" when it's with mustangs, or "starting" when it's with younger domestic horses raised in captivity. and the methods for gentling mustangs is thankfully much more natural now, with a primary focus on creating a bond through respect and trust. there are still abusive horse owners/trainers/riders out there sadly, but there are just as many, if not more, who love and respect their horses. but this movie is definitely a powerful reminder just how important it is to respect nature and animals, because at the end of the day they're living beings too and are just as deserving to live and be happy as we are. anyway, sorry for the essay comment, but it was really lovely to see you connect with this movie. i really appreciate when men (particularly amab men) are open to watching movies like this, rather than writing it off as too girly (horse-related content tends to get that label, which is preposterous imo, but i digress). people really miss out on wonderful stories when they have that close-minded perspective. so your reaction, commentary, and your freely expressed emotions, were such a breath of fresh air. thank you!
Thank youuu thank you! ❤️ that's such a great story and connection you have with this film! Yep yep yep, I truly believe it's a real masterpiece of animation and storytelling. I was so surprised to see it was Zimmer, he's one of my all-time favorites! Wow, thank you so much for carefully describing the history of this topic and it's really sad to hear that there are still horse owners that really shouldn't be near a horse. Yep, a very important reminder that needs to be talked about more for sure, beautifully said! No worries, love to see your passion and sincere care for this movie and subject matter! I'm up for every type of movie really, doesn't matter what label it has. Thank YOU for supporting and enjoying, really appreciate it! 😄
I was lucky enough to see this in theatres (dragged my mother and baby brother to go see it XD) and yes, you're right. The sound design was something else. It blew the mind of lil 8 yr old me XD It will always be one of my favourite movies and yes it is so rewatchable. I've watched it at least once a year every year ever since (I have the VHS, a DVD and on several video sites XD)
Aaaahhh that really warms me! Definitely shoud've been quite the experience 🙌 I freaking love that, the passion! Will definitely watch this movie time and time again ❤️
I LOVED this movie when growing up, I wouldn't shut up about it and would watch it multiple times a day because adhd (I had a CD copy), when I couldn't see the movie anymore because my copy got corrupted I started watching other movies I got introduced to how to train your dragon years later and I also fell in love with those movies since they got out, as in I know the dialogues and sounds in two languages level After more than 10 years of loving both movies I finally made the connection between them lmao I can't believe it flew over my head like that At one point of the reaction I just said out loud "yo this is og httyd" then realized lol Love your reactions! I like to binge watch them all like a series so I'll definitely see more later!
Hahaha it's so heartwarming to read these comments about watching the movie over and over again. Sad the copy got corrupted lol it's happened to me before! Yesss they do have some thematic connections! They're DreamWorks, no wonder! ❤️ Thank youuu so much! I'm so glad you love the content over, stay tuned for the next movie reactions specially! 🔥
Hello there! Since I don't speak russian, I wanted to translate this and hey, thank you SO SO much, ! really appreciate it! It means a lot. Oh yes, there's so many beautiful details and themes and symbolism that I really wanted to make sure I put out as much love as possible in the video. It has become of my fav DreamWorks movies. Thank you for appreciating the reaction once again, I REALLY loved it!
Omg I'm so hype to watch this. This was literally my favorite movie growing up. I used to have my grandma rewind the VHS tape and play it for me everytime I visited her😂
This was, my favorite movie as a kid. I would watch this on repeat constantly. I loved it so much, even if I didn’t fully understand it at the time. So underrated I’m so glad more people have been watching it in recent years. I’ve actually learned that they based the plot on what would happen to Native Americans sent to white man “schools.” As they worked closely with the Lakota people throughout its entirety to make sure it was accurate as possible. Care was put in every part of this film and it really shows.
Such a gem indeed! Yeah, I can't believe it's actually not that talked about in the film animation community at least, it definitely deserves a ton of recognition 🙌 That's such good subtext honestly, would've never picked up on it if it wasn't mentioned in the comments here, thank you so much!
your reaction to this is just fantastic, it makes me so happy to notice all the details put into this masterpiece. what a wonderful movie, i love to see people newly discovering it as someone who grew up with it as my favorite movie
Thank you! I was so passionate analyzing this movie 😂 ❤️ love to hear that's such a childhood favorite! Definitely missed on watching this one as a kid but glad to have reacted to it!
Aww this movie is such a core memory for me. Dreamworks used to have “how to draw” bonus features, and I learned how to draw Spirit. Gosh I miss having bonus features like that.
I remember watching this movie for the first time (IN SPANISH) as a kid and crying when spirit and rain reunited and he said goodbye. I have loved it ever since, i’ve lost count of the amount of times i’ve seen it since(probably close to 100+ times). This is one of those timeless movies that will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart.
I love that you take so much time to edit your videos in the way that you do. It is really entertaining! With most reaction channels its very simple editing but you. I also very much appreciate your reactions and that you dont go on and on for minutes on end while you are watching. Even at the beginning with the intro, I normally skip other reactor's because they just sit there and talk to the screen but you have funny memes and entertaining background clips. Thank you for all the time you take on these videos!! Definitely subscribing!!
10:30 I have loved this movie passionately for as long as i can remember, and to this day, I cant quite tell if Spirit is begging his mom to run away or to come help him in this scene. Either option is equally heartbreaking, and i ugly cry every singe time. Truly showcases the power of visual storytelling. This is one of my 2 favorite animated movies of all time (the other being Prince of Egypt), and one of my favorite movies ever, period.
YESS that's such a great scene because of what you say precisely, the use of pure visual sotrytelling and sounds of horses is more than powerful. Prince of Egypt is another great one! I reacted to that one too, this one of the best animated movies ever made, period!
35:43 the sun doesn't represent hope, it's just visually telling you they're heading west (but I get it, I do the same thing while analyzing movies haha)
I saw this in theaters when it came out, it was actually the first movie that I ever saw in theaters (unless my parents took me to one as an infant that I don't remember) and now I'm 26 years old and this movie is still my absolute favorite movie. Well actually it's tied with Prince of Egypt but still. I forget where I read/heard it but someone once said that Disney makes art, Pixar makes emotional stories, but DreamWorks makes masterpieces. And Hans Zimmer scores both Spirit and Prince of Egypt, Hans Zimmer is always a win.
That's so cool that it was your first movie in theaters! I can't even remember mine, and I'm also 26 haha that's great taste! Prince of Egypt is also a work of art indeed💯 Yep, cannot believe I slept on this music from Hans, I'm a big fan of his and this certainly does not disappoint at all!
This was one of my favourite movies growing up, and it still is. It's sad that not its not more popular than what it is, so its wonderful to see someone else appreciate it :) I love how much you paid attention to the little details, a lot of other reactors miss a lot of them so it was really refreshing that you saw the whole depth of movie.
I really wish this movie was more talked about, yeah! Was really driven to react to it since it's really a favorite among my friends. Thank you so much for appreciating! Really wanted to do justice through editing and commentary, glad you enjoyed! 😄
Dude, I love your reactions. You pick up on everything! This was my favorite movie throughout my childhood, it literally sparked my love of animation and desire to be a Disney animator, because of the incredible expressions of the animals. How much life and emotion and story they put into just eyes and eyebrows and mouths.
Thank you so so much! I try my best, thank you for appreciating 🙌 this film truly stands out as a feat for 2D animation, I really wish it comes back in full force in the world of movies sooner rather than later. Totally agree! Such a beauty 💯
I bawled my eyes out when I first watched it, I was 12 years old at the time. I still bawl my eyes out every single time I watch this masterpiece. I start crying as soon as the first few scenes are shown, when Spirit is born. I LOVE him so much ❤ I loved your reaction to this. So genuine and heartfelt! 🥰 And your editing skills are off the charts!!! Bravo! I'm subbed already.
The word "masterpiece" is super fitting honestly, it's such an emotionally powerful movie! Hahaha Spirit is so cute and endearing and lovable! Thank you so much! Really appreciate it, hope you enjoy what's yet to come and what's there in the channel! 🙌❤️
This is my favorite DreamWorks movie. Has been since I first saw in back in early 2006. I borrowed it from my brother-in-law's parents (right around the time he married my sister).
I love this movie SO MUCH! My childhood film, I used to watch it every day of the holidays, I knew all the lines by heart, this film took me to horse riding and was also the reason I stopped riding. And I still cry like a pregnant goat when I see it nowadays (23 years old). What a lovely reaction, thanks for sharing! I'm going to watch the movie again before bed and today I'm going to sleep with a warm heart.
Thank you soo much for this reactionvideo..!!☺️🙏❤❤❤❤❤ It was my favorite movie for the longest of times, & your reaction was a pleasure to witness☺️ Hahah' I cried next to you my brotha!😅❤❤❤
I'm glad you liked this movie a lot, It's a favorite of mine. The animation is really good, the soundtrack is amazing, and the lack of horse-dialogue makes the movie feel more grounded imo. Also great reaction, 10/10 editing.
Just to let you know when i was in kindergarden, when kids wanted to be doctors, police officers, etc... i wanted to be a horse because of this, no you heard me right, a horse 🤣🤣🤣
But seriously, Spirit will always be my number one movie even after 2 decades... it's beautiful and visually captivating, the visual storytelling actually helped me understand since i didn't know english at that time, it felt like there was no language barrier there.
Thank you and thank the team who created this movie for creating this personal masterpiece to my childhood ❤️
You need to make number 2 of this epic film
Aw, that's so cute honestly, love that they actually cared to put these details and include the real language, I love this movie more and more ❤️
I want to cry every time the little girl is on screen cuz it’s so cute 😂😢
@darquidarqui I did some research while doing an in depth breakdown of why this movie is so good, and I found out that Little Creek's actor is legitimately a Native American and had input on the portrayal of the village! That made me really happy to see.
Woow! I Love that!!!🤩❤️🤩❤️🤩❤️
The nod between the Colonel and Spirit is one of my favorite scenes. You wouldn't believe how many reactors totally miss the respect that's shown.
One of the best scenes of the movie for sure! And really? That's interesting. Loved loved this resolution! 🙌
Wow, I did not know that at all, that's so wrong, thank you for that! Oh yes, that's a great observation! Didn't think about it that way, awesome!
as i get older i found myself crying even more watching those "kids movies" than when I was one
Haha same! A lot of these "kids movies" are a lot more sophisticated and emotionally powerful than a lot of people give them credit for!
@@darquidarqui yes agreed!
Amazing little fact: The native scenes are packed with the actual lakota language!! It's broken but there!! Nearly cried seeing how much native heritage is in this movie
Oh wow that's awesome! That's some beautiful attention to detail, thank you so much for this! That's so meaningful ❤️
Rain was named rain because in the book her mother seaira gave birth during a rain storm and her father is named storm. Love this movie. I have the whole thing memorized
Ohhh that's a beautiful detail! Love it! ❤️
THERES A BOOK???????
@@jaybirdrosewater-holmes7071 4 actually. They lead up to the movie with the 4th book being the movie. The first one talks about Rain’s grandmother and how she escapes the hands of the military and ends up in the wild. The second book follows rains mother as she navigates a harsh winter and the old stallion being defeated by a young stallion. Book 3 follows spirit’s mother who was a wild mare who got separated from her original heard
THERE ARE BOOKS?!? This has been my favorite movie my entire life and I only discover now that there are BOOKS?!?
WHAT?! THERE'S MORE LORE????? HORSE GIRLS ARE BACK BABYYYYY
Love this movie so muc 🙌
VHS team let's go lol! Wow, I can't believe there's so much backstory out there! Really want to get more into it one day.
That's just so sweet, love the thought behing the names! ❤️
That scene when the toddler plays with Spirit just melted my heart ❤.
That was so cute! An "awww' worthy moment 😂❤
How is this comment 4h ago but the video is just 2h ago-
@@Mintz_Eventing because I set this movie reaction to premiere 2 hours before it officially premiered!
@@darquidarqui oh lol
If you've ever been kicked, stepped on or otherwise bonked by a horse, you KNOW how much that shit hurts, they are SOLID beasts. This is one of my fav movies, such a gem.
Totally! You don't mess up with a horse, ever (or any animal, really). One of DreamWorks very best! 🙌
something that is often overlooked ist the fact that, when the colonel tries to shoot little creek approaching him during the invasion of the camp, Rain sees it and blocks the bullet with her body by rearing and turning. horses have massive muscles in their shoulders, if that same bullet hit Little Creek, he probably would have died.
Thank you
Yesss, one of the few animated movies I didn't watch as a kid! I'm so glad to be able to bring so much value for you! Thank you for supporting ❤️❤️
This movie is the top of mh favorites. As the young indigenous girl I was that longed for representation and as the woman I am now that is horse obsessed, it truly does represent the effects of colonization in its true light.
That's incredible, love to hear that you were represented and appreciated this movie for what is going for!
This has been one of my favourites since I was a kid. Can confirm that I didn't survive this movie as a kid. Cried everytime.
This film really inspired me and it needs more love, it's just that good
Yessss, I'm blown away I didn't know it was by Hans Zimmer! And Pirates and Interstellar's scores are also 2 of my favs, you have some amazing taste, unsurprisingly ❤
Hahahaha that was it for me, there were just SO MANY aww moments 😂🙌
@@warriorcatkitty not yet, but i plan to!
The music paired with the animation and the story gives me chills every time
Yesss, the music elevated the emotion of the movie so much!
This is just a beautiful yet sad movie, it’s so sad when Spirit gets captured because it’s like real life. People catch horses and sometimes they’re abusive towards the horses.
Edit: such an underrated reaction tho
I can't believe things like this happen in real life. This movie struck something really deep in me.
Thanks!
Only a couple minutes in and I’m LOVINGGG your energy and the editing just amplifies it In the best way possible it makes me feel like I’m seeing this for the first time !!!! Definitely going to be a long time supporter.
Yo thank you so much! Hope you enjoy the rest of the content, specially the next movie reactions coming up, exciting stuff! ❤️🔥
One of the best I've ever seen for sure ❤️
That's actually my FAVORITE theory on the name of Rain, that's awesome! Thank you for this 🙌
I really hate when people see animation and think "kid's movie".

whoa, which song was that? a good amount of em have that rough sound.
1:59 even with altered audio that one little scene will always give me goosebumps
Yay, thank you so much for appreciating the effort that went into this video! Trying to do my best in every single one. Stay tuned for more! 🙌😄
That's so beautiful to hear horses really are a totaly beauty!
Stay tuned!
I can’t wait for Across the Spider Verse reaction. I’m so glad that you love this movie.
I'm pretty sure the term "breaking" a horse has been really twisted over time. Originally natives used this term to mean "breaking down the walls between you and the animal" but now (as the movie shows), its taken as "breaking down an animals spirit"
(Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here)
Ohh interesting, never heard of that before! I'll keep this other meaning in mind, thanks!
@@darquidarqui 🥰 also I'd thought id say, I really like your commentary style and I find your "awes" and emotions very relatable ♥ keep up the great work ^-^
@@chattycatty3336 Hey thank youuuu! I really appreciate it, I'll try to keep it up, hope you enjoy the rest of videos and what's to come! ❤
Correct. Now most horse trainers call it gentling because we use a much softer approach and earn the horse’s trust and respect.
@@samdancer3808 oh I love that!
This film really blew me away 💯
Thank you, really appreciate it! Hope you enjoy the rest of the content and future movie reactions as well! 🙌
@@cadence-2 I defiantly think this deserved an award over spirited away
I've never seen any other reactor have written commentary on certain scenes, this is awesome! It's like reading an annotation from someone else in a book. Immediate subscription
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! I've been trying out this kind of commentary for a while now! 😃
P.S. AMAZING pfp, love it! Aragorn always! I'm a big LOTR fan ❤️
My half sister would watch this movie on repeat when she was little
I totally get it! I would've if I had given it chance much earlier! ❤️
Spirit is my childhood I love it so much,
And I LOVED watching you react to it. AS YOU SAY LIKE 6 TIMES, THIS IS CINEMA
BTW YOU ARENT INSANE IF YOUR INSANE WE ARE INSANE TOGETHER
Aww, I mean, this movie is just such a masterpiece, for real! Thank you so so much, I really appreciate it, hope you enjoy the rest of the content ❤️
Thank you so much for the amzing support!
oh my god my favorite movie and reactor are finally met!😭amazing as always
answering the question: i am crying every time i see this movie from the part of Spitit captured to the end with little breaks. This is masterpiece
Yayyyy, I'm flattered, thank you so much 🥺 ahhh, really the whole movie is so emotional! A masterpiece indeed, needs more love ❤️
8:21 Hahaha omfg that editing made me belly laugh! 😂😂😂 The Smash Bros sound effect is just perfect 🤣🤣
Lmaoooo so glad that worked for you! I was having a blast editing that moment too 😂😂
Spirit's "There's danger here, leave, NOW!!" At the beginning has no joke stuck with me ever since I first watched it at 6 years old.
Each time I've watched this movie I've cried preciselyyyy 11x. It is my all time favorite childhood movie 😭
It's just SO ridiculously good, yes! I think I'll continue to watch this movie over and over again in many years to come 🙌
I gotta be honest just listening to the soundtrack and reliving my childhood memories with this movie gets me to tear up every time
The music is SO good, truly one of the best aspects of the whole experience!
They really decided early on that other then the tiny bit of narrative that spirit WOULD talk but through the songs, they are esentially what he's thinking/feeling.
Yep, the notes I made in the video are pretty clear, I pretty much state that throughout the video.
Awww, all my virtual love to your cat! So glad to hear he got rescued and has been taken care properly ❤️
this was my ultimate favorite movie as a kid. i used to put on the 'get off of my back' scene and jump around on my hands and knees along with the music lolol
I love to keep reading that so many people loved this movie so much as a kid! hahaha that's cute, so many great and powerful scenes throughout! 🙌
Keep it up ❤
*sorry if it's a lot to read*
That's so cute! I really want to ride a horse now ❤️
Thank you thank you! ❤️❤️
Not at all! 😄
I also named my stuffed horse after Spirit! ❤
Ohhh it's so so good! Totally caught off guard with how invested I would be. Thank you!
This is the first video of yours I've watched, and I really like the combination of your recorded first impressions and the thoughtful commentary you added later. It means we get both spontaneity and insightful commentary at the same time!
Thank you so much for appreciating the format! 😄 trying my best with this, hoping to keep it up, stay tuned for more movie reactions! 🙌
I used to watch this movie on loop when I was a little kid, it's just such a good film in every single way. I'll always love this movie ♡♡♡
Can totally see why! It definitely has stood the test of time as I can see, it's so beautiful ❤️
Thank you so much! Totally agree, the animation holds up very well and the horses feel so authentic, the sound design also really helps. Blown away 👏
This movie is so absolutely beautiful and one of my childhood and family favourites, i cried a lot, i listen to the amazing soundtrack so much, this is why DreamWorks is my favourite animation studio, i loved the scene with spirit and the little kid, every time i see it i almost cry. i love all the little details you put in this, and yes it's also a pet peeve of mine when they don't go to the sides.❤
Edit: I counted how many "awwws" there were and I may not be accurate but I got 56 counting the first 29 if course XD. And at the 8th one I guessed that there'd be 10 more, but there were 48 more instead! How silly of me to think 10 is a lot
So awesome to hear that it's a childhood and family gem! DreamWorks really is one of the best animation studios at their peak. Haha that little scene is so cute! Hahaha so glad to hear I'm not the only one with that pet peeve 😂
Wow!
Lol.
Thank you! 😄 hahaha those were the times with those games! ❤️
@@darquidarqui You're welcome!
This was the movie I used to watch everyday for weeks as a kid and I still watch it every year around Christmas :)
Nothing means more comfort to me than this movie. So glad you reacted to it, I almost died of excitement lol.
I'm still watching and liking your vids, even though I wasn't active in the comments or in the premiere chat for some time. My depression caught up to me and I didn't want to interact with anyone or anything lol. I'm on medication for some weeks now tho and feeling a lot better :)
Keep up the great work
Costia! I'm so glad to read from you again! ❤️
Aww that's so sweet, great tradition! I have that movie tradition for Lord of the Rings movies, once every Christmas!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this reaction, I'm actually really happy to share my experience first time watching over here ❤️
My biggest hug and sincere vibes for you Costia!
Thank you! This movie was incredibly emotional, really caught me off guard. It's really one freaking gem of a story 🙌
4:30 - Good for you, for correcting yourself (onscreen) about calling the bison "buffalo." Major kudos for that. Some people don't even know that there are no buffalo in North America, so they could only have been bison.
Omg your reaction is the best I’ve ever seen of this beautiful movie wow, thumbs up
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! I'll try to keep up ❤️
Spirit was my favourite movie as a kid. I have watched it HUNDERDS of times, but this was the first time i watched it in a long time. The way i just ugly cried the last third of the movie. I did not remember it to be this sad from watching it as a kid...
This movie really pulls HARD on your heartstrings, it's just so powerful. Happy to see in the comments many fans of the movie since they were a kid!
11:34 - this shot was inspired by the Grand Canyon, and the storm we see shortly after that (11:55) was based on a real storm the researches saw.
i loved your reaction and analyzation of this movie so much! really, really agree with everything you said. this was a childhood favorite of mine. i saw it in the theaters as a kid, and yes, i sobbed lol. my parents were wonderful and went and bought it with me and my sibling the second it came out on DVD, and i proceeded to watch it millions of times while growing up. i was already a horse kid, this movie really only enabled my love of horses haha. but watching it as i got older, i came to really understand the depth and beauty and meaning of this film, and it's themes of freedom and undying determination. truly a masterpiece film with gorgeous art and imagery, raw, realistic characters, and unforgettable messaging. and the MUSIC, oh my goodness i had the soundtrack on repeat. hans zimmer's epic and iconic score for this movie is criminally underrated when it's some of his best work imo, the emotions in the music is so palpable. and bryan adams did a wonderful job as well, his singing and the lyrics were incredibly heartfelt and a perfect musical narration of spirit's life and feelings! to date, the soundtrack--especially the score--for this movie is one of my favorite of all time. it's very hard to beat.
i will say, things did unfortunately used to be that horrible when it came to how people worked with and treated horses, but it's gotten a lot better over the years as people have really come to understand them. the US marks on those army horses are called brands, hot iron/fire branding in particular. it's a practice still done today, though much differently. cattle still tend to get hot iron brands since it lasts permanently and is cheaper. but horses almost exclusively are freeze-branded now, which is far less stressful or painful than hot iron brands, though it is more expensive, and sometimes there are issues with them and they don't last/become illegible. american mustangs that were legally caught (by the bureau of land management aka BLM) always have freeze brands not only as a way to identify, but also as a protection for mustangs as a whole (it's rightfully illegal to just go and catch a wild mustang for yourself since they're federally protected--and it goes without saying that killing them is highly illegal as well--you can only adopt the ones that get rounded up at BLM adoption centers). so their brands prove that they were acquired legally and their owners were inspected and approved to care for them, and helps prevent them from ending up being sent to slaughter houses. also happily the term "breaking" a horse isn't really used anymore for obvious reasons, it's more commonly called "gentling" when it's with mustangs, or "starting" when it's with younger domestic horses raised in captivity. and the methods for gentling mustangs is thankfully much more natural now, with a primary focus on creating a bond through respect and trust. there are still abusive horse owners/trainers/riders out there sadly, but there are just as many, if not more, who love and respect their horses. but this movie is definitely a powerful reminder just how important it is to respect nature and animals, because at the end of the day they're living beings too and are just as deserving to live and be happy as we are.
anyway, sorry for the essay comment, but it was really lovely to see you connect with this movie. i really appreciate when men (particularly amab men) are open to watching movies like this, rather than writing it off as too girly (horse-related content tends to get that label, which is preposterous imo, but i digress). people really miss out on wonderful stories when they have that close-minded perspective. so your reaction, commentary, and your freely expressed emotions, were such a breath of fresh air.
not even 5 minutes in i start crying cause THIS MOVIE IS SO EMOTIONAL MAN
I was lucky enough to see this in theatres (dragged my mother and baby brother to go see it XD) and yes, you're right. The sound design was something else. It blew the mind of lil 8 yr old me XD
It will always be one of my favourite movies and yes it is so rewatchable. I've watched it at least once a year every year ever since (I have the VHS, a DVD and on several video sites XD)
Aaaahhh that really warms me! Definitely shoud've been quite the experience 🙌
I freaking love that, the passion! Will definitely watch this movie time and time again ❤️
I LOVED this movie when growing up, I wouldn't shut up about it and would watch it multiple times a day because adhd (I had a CD copy), when I couldn't see the movie anymore because my copy got corrupted I started watching other movies
I got introduced to how to train your dragon years later and I also fell in love with those movies since they got out, as in I know the dialogues and sounds in two languages level
After more than 10 years of loving both movies I finally made the connection between them lmao I can't believe it flew over my head like that
At one point of the reaction I just said out loud "yo this is og httyd" then realized lol
Love your reactions!

When I first saw this movie I thought "Hey, Spirit kinda looks like Moses from Pri....ooooooh". 🤣🤣
I love this movie it has such a beautiful scenery to it, and an amazing soundtrack it’s incredible
It's such a complete movie! Tremendously surprised by its production
I used to have my grandma rewind the VHS tape and play it for me everytime I visited her😂
Ohhh that's so awesome! VHS tapes were something else, good times 😂
Yeah, I can't believe it's actually not that talked about in the film animation community at least, it definitely deserves a ton of recognition 🙌
That's such good subtext honestly, would've never picked up on it if it wasn't mentioned in the comments here, thank you so much!
its been so long since i watched this movie and it still brings me to tears 🙂🥲
It's just sooooo goood! Still can't believe this movie exists ❤️
@@darquidarqui I wish they still made movies like this :)
your reaction to this is just fantastic, it makes me so happy to notice all the details put into this masterpiece. what a wonderful movie, i love to see people newly discovering it as someone who grew up with it as my favorite movie
Man such a heartfelt reaction, amazing video!!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed 😄
I really want to watch this movie in Spanish actually since it's my native language! Wow yes, it's just so special! Really happy this movie exists ❤️
this is my fave animated horse film so thanks for reacting and not hiding your emotions ❤🐎
Of course! This movie was deeply beautiful in every way, thank you for appreciating! ❤️🙌
Definitely subscribing!!
one of my favourite movies from my childhood. i still cry every time i watch it
This movie is timeless! Can't believe how good it is ❤️
One of my absolute favorites movies growing up! I had the CD with the soundtrack (tho it only had the Bryan Adams songs) and listened to it on repeat
So good! Oh yes, what a childhood, love to see how much this movie has meant to people since they were kids!
Thanks haha! Glad to know, I always try to analyze every single detail as tiny as it is 😅
I saw this in theaters when it came out, it was actually the first movie that I ever saw in theaters (unless my parents took me to one as an infant that I don't remember) and now I'm 26 years old and this movie is still my absolute favorite movie.
Prince of Egypt is also a work of art indeed💯
Yep, cannot believe I slept on this music from Hans, I'm a big fan of his and this certainly does not disappoint at all!
This was the first movie I ever saw in theaters at 3 years old and I still love it so much to this day!!
Woow what a great experience it must have been! Such a good movie, still keep thinking about it ❤️
“This is a cinema” got me off guard😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
This was one of my favourite movies growing up, and it still is. It's sad that not its not more popular than what it is, so its wonderful to see someone else appreciate it :) I love how much you paid attention to the little details, a lot of other reactors miss a lot of them so it was really refreshing that you saw the whole depth of movie.
I really wish this movie was more talked about, yeah! Was really driven to react to it since it's really a favorite among my friends. Thank you so much for appreciating! Really wanted to do justice through editing and commentary, glad you enjoyed! 😄
@0:22 I completely agree about the cover, but I truly love this movie so so much!! I honestly hold it very dear to my heart :)
Hahaha glad I wasn't the only one lol! But yes, this movie is exquisely beautiful, truly. One of my favorites from DreamWorks for sure now! ❤️
i also think the scene with the toddler really paralleled the moment of young spirit with the buffalo ❤️
Yayyy yes, such a cool suble visual, love it! ❤️
That's so endearing to hear! Oh wow, I can't imagine how much it truly means to you with all that experience ❤️

I'm glad you liked this movie a lot, It's a favorite of mine.
The animation is really good, the soundtrack is amazing, and the lack of horse-dialogue makes the movie feel more grounded imo.
Also great reaction, 10/10 editing.
the guitar number for basically their love song is literally my favorite ❤
It's astonishing how well composed every piece of music is in this movie 🙌
When you said his spirit cannot be broken holy shit you actuallt predicted it 😭
