    Highly recommended The Gate(1987) really cool little demons design that uses stop-motion puppets and actors in full body suits, using forced perspective in camera tricks to make them look small

    I would recommend reacting to Critters 2: The Main Course to celebrate Easter. Critters 2 takes place around the Easter holiday, and the Krite eggs from the end of the first movie hatching do play a big part of the chaos that follows. It's a great one and really fun, like this one. Plus, the effects take a huge step up because the Krites in Critters 2 are done by The Chiodo Brothers, who did the effects for Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Ernest Scared Stupid, and, oddly enough, the Large Marge stopmotion scene from Pee-wee's Big Adventure.

    Actually, Critters started the creative process quite a while before Gremlins. But Gremlins was released first. This is why people get confused and sometimes refer to Critters as a Gremlins clone. It is in fact simply a case of convergent thought., to an extent. Like how the thylacine is a convergent evolution to the wolf.
    As someone from Kansas, I can say that there'd be a lot more people with guns turning Krites into swiss cheese.

Its also one of the best "heavy metal horror" movies that uses the 80s "satanic panic" about metal as a plot point. Oh, and another fun heavy metal horror film is "Trick Or Treat" (1986), not to be confused with "Trick R Treat" (2007) which is a great litttle horror anthology.

    What incredible timing, I was literally just thinking about this movie and was hoping you'd post a reaction soon. Katie, I am sorry that life and your health have hit a rough patch. I can empathize as things have been a bit rough for me as well. My struggles have inspired me to start reading again however. I've delved feet first into the incredible nonfiction novel "The Occult" by Colin Wilson. Within a few pages Wilson quotes famed Occultist and medium Dion Fortune whom suggests that when our psyches are beset by misfortune, failure, and suffering; we become more prone to negative "forces". I could not agree more, as it seems that when I am feeling depressed, negative events tend to occur more frequently in my life (I have some really odd instances that do reinforce this notion). While that may seem a bit esoteric, I've been trying to bolster my attitude and prepare my subconscious for the great battles that lay ahead. I thought I'd share this because you seem like a person that would benefit from the philosophies and advice Wilson presents in "The Occult". I really do hope you feel better and that good things come your way...
    I have been a massive fan of "Critters" since I was knee high to a grasshopper. While people may call it a ripoff of "Gremlins", it is not. Both movies were in production around the same time, and the shared similarities owe more to coincidence than anything else. I know you'll love this one and I'm excited you get to share another 80s classic with all of us!!!! "Critters 2" is excellent as well, and I think I will have to do a "Critters" series rewatch in preparation for your reaction. (Only up to part 2 though).

    • @skeletalk
      @skeletalk  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The timing sounds like fate to me! Hope you enjoy, and honestly The Occult sounds like my kind of thing my mother always says "things come in threes" and they always seem too indeed. I'll have to check that book out because that's a sentiment I agree with. It's why I find it important to change your perspective to a more optimistic one and see how some things can be a blessing in disguise.
      Critters to me doesn't seem anything like gremlins honestly! I understand the inspiration but comparison is a bit much, they're entirely different and I enjoyed them both so much

    • @Psilocybin77
      @Psilocybin77 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@skeletalk It's funny because the entire introduction of the book is all about "coincidence" and why it's important to be mindful of things that seem coincidental. It was a nice "coincidence" then that this reaction showed up when it did 😉. I do think a lot of people dismiss the "power of 3" as quackery, but again, Wilson presents some very concrete ideas of why things like "Tarot" , the "I Ching", and numerology represent some very real and "primitive" human truths. I say primitive in the positive sense, because our ancestors were aware of things that we have lost because of modernity, and the suppression of what our spiritual selves know to be true. Not to say that science isn't wonderful, but it's also important that we don't throw out the baby with the bath water. Personally, I know I have struggled with the dragon of material reality at the expense of my spiritual nature, and that has been detrimental to my own mental health....Anyhow, Have a wonderful day Katie and I can't wait for a "Critters 2" reaction which I think is better than the first film! (Everyone will say it, but let me be the first: Dee Wallace was also the mom in E.T.)

    Hi Katie so glad you enjoyed watching this fun film and yes the second is worth watch but after that they are okay but not on the same level as the first two but that's me you may love all the Critter films, also would love to see you react to Ghoulies it's a low budget horror film but I think you would enjoy the practical effects of the film, and if you haven't seen it yet would love to see you react to the first Predator film you would definitely enjoy the design of the creature in that film, and Red Dwarf is the best Sci-Fi comedy ever made in my humble opinion I quote it all the time in my everyday life along with Blackadder,
    And if you can find it there is a documentary called In Search of Darkness, it's a set of films that explore the lasting impact of horror films from the 1980's and why we as humans love it so much, they talk to many people from the horror industry but most notably John Carpenter, Joe Dante, Jeffery Combs, Barbara Crampton, Doug Bradly just to name a few, they talk about the films that they enjoyed working on and how the effects have changed through out the decade and which films inspired them to get into making horror films in the first place.

    The plot is somewhat similar to "terrorvision" but this is more tame than terrorvision's raunchier storyline.

    Just a minor correction, the music you use is from Skyrim not Morrowind. It took me forever to figure it out, before I looked at the drop down info, I thought it was from Oblivion since it sounds so similar to a few of that game's songs. Anyway, Critters is the most successful of the Gremlins knock-off films. There are multiple other films that tried to cash in off of the success of Gremlins, but the only good one and most memorable is the film Critters. It's sequel is good too, it recognizes what it is, and so it doesn't take itself seriously at all.

    Yet another in a long line of horror creatures that have chased Dee Wallace in an 80s film! The Critters are not quite as adorable as gremlins (IMHO) but I love this franchise nonetheless. The 1st Critters has an oddball winning combination of alien bounty hunters, goofball handyman Charlie, a classic Middle American nuclear family, and demented evil puppetry. The sequels have a handful of the same cast members, and the 3rd Critters actually stars a very young Leonardo DiCaprio. Truth is stranger than fiction...

    Nice reaction, like the blue hair. Hey since you like horror and awesome practical effects I highly recommend you watch Child's Play! Totally worth it and a great franchise like Halloween, Freddy etc. I think you'll like Chucky!
