    My MisterPi kit arrived today (the mega pack) & I've assembled it as per the video, downloaded the image, installed it on a card & downloaded some DOS games to test. Worked perfectly the first time! I even got the wifi working without knowing how to do it! I'm absolutely thrilled to understand more about it all & am copying over some ROMs to see how they go. Great work Taki & team - just brilliant!

    I found out about this today and at first I had questions. Then I saw this video and noticed the Cyclone V chip and I instantly understood. This is a great contribution to the MiSTer community and hopefully the price point will bring more people into it. The DE10 board has been ratcheting up steadily, and quite frankly if mine were to break today, this would probably be my choice rather than another DE10.

    • @livinlicious
      @livinlicious 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      its 160 bucks for everything with all extra boards. I cant get the DE10 board here for less than 280 if lucky.

    • @ShibaFan99
      @ShibaFan99 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@livinlicious exactly, DE10 prices have been going nowhere but up recently and some places are charging ridiculous markups on top of that. 160 for the Cyclone board alone would be a bargain, but this is a phenomenal deal.

      Hopefully supply is steady enough to make scalping pointless. Scalping only exists if demand outstrips supply. Remove that and you have no scalping market. More so buyers have to resist buying from scalpers. If they have no buyers, they have no market.

It’s reassuring to see DE-10 Nano alternatives coming out at more affordable prices. Let’s hope there are no major supply issues and that everyone who wants a MiSTer can get one. Great job!

  • @Soupie62
    @Soupie62 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Watching someone unplug a device, to power it off, always reminds me that connectors have a limited lifespan. The switch on a power cord (shown near the start) is one solution to this.
    A switch on the product would also be nice - but with 2 power connectors on the FPGA board, and a third on the top board, placing a switch would be tricky. Easier to look for a power supply with a switch instead.

As a viewer who has a MiSTER, but has not been following the scene, I didn't know from this video what it was; I had to look it up to see if it was some sort of cut back version lacking features or compatibility.
    I think it would behoove you to make it clear in the intro that this is not the case, particularly because Pi in the name of many similar devices directly imply that the guts are based off of the Raspberry Pi.

    Update: I HAVE IT!!!!!

    Wait... i might have missed something but is this affiliated with like raspberry pi? or is it just called that because of the size and shape?
    also out of curiosity, what was the inspiration for this product? just to get more people into fpga dev? Or is this meant primarily just to be a smaller option for diy handheld retro emulation?

    I was hitting F5 for both launch windows on the website and never even saw the button change from SOLD OUT. I never even got a chance. This is Analog Pocket all over again.

      If you spam f5, your browser won't actually reload the page, it will just show you a cached version. You have to press Ctrl+f5 to bypass the cache. This is what I did, and I bought my mister pi just fine.

    Nice that this only costs half the price of the original mister it's just sad that there is no stock

    As a complete noob on this and having watched the whole video, I still dont know the benefits of this board over an emulation device, there should be but I dont know them

      That would be a topic for something closer to a review video.

      Software emulation vs hardware emulation. It’s one step closer to the using the actual hardware and software. Software emulation needs to translate everything to run in modern hardware. Hardware emulation mimics the actual hardware, so nothing needs to be translated. Can a software emulation feel as good as hardware emulation, possibly, but often the hardware emulation feels closer to the real thing.

      Accuracy -- the timing on the FPGA is either identical or near identical to the real thing.

      some benefits
      - with a snac adaptor you can plug in your real controllers with zero latency
      - this includes your real n64 controller's gameboy expansion pack, hook up your real pokemon game to pokemon stadium e.g.
      - or hook up a real gameboy to your device with an actual link cable and trade with it
      - it does 0 latency analogue out, and hdmi out
      - the audio and video is perfectly synced because it doesn't run on a buffer, the chips are all simulated in parallel like in a real console
      - crt effects work, like visual effects that run by abusing the real time of an electron gun moving in a crt to make visual effects, or lightguns
      - you can overclock the cpu. like run an n64 or psx on "real" hardware just overclocked without changing the simulation speed
      - it looks, sounds and feels perfect

    I'm so confused. So is this an FPGA or does it require a Raspberry Pi? What a very strange choice for naming. Incredibly confusing.

      FPGA 😂

      @TheXtremeBoltGuy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It has pi in the name because it uses python based code, same as a raspberry pi
      Definitely still confusing, but it is definitely fpga
