Love Mister Addons, im excited to see the IO Direct! i have a dual ram build and im currently using the DAC from Laser Bear that lets me connect to my PVM with HD retrovision cables. the IO direct would clean up my setup big time! I really enjoy the look of the M3 kits by Koala too! i dont need a 3rd MiSTer but after seeing them maybe i do! lol.
I've been a subscriber for quite a while, but mostly for your videos on interesting arcade games and the like, I usually skip the MiSTer content. I recently moved to a new apartment and now I have space for a permanent CRT setup, but not enough space to fit multiple consoles next to it. That being the case, I think it's finally time I built a MiSTer. I've been doing a little research this evening and almost every time I search on anything, I find a video of yours explaining what I was looking for! So I guess I just wanted to say thanks for all the content that I've never watched before and I expect in the future I'll be excitedly watching all your new videos about every new MiSTer development!
I got my IO Direct rig hooked up today with a fun mail package: the Mini Din 10 multi breakout cable for the direct video along with the N64 SNAC adaptor! To my good fortune I also had an older but awesome Onyo receiver with a port for optical audio so I'm enjoying the green machine to the fullest with some Metal Gear Solid.
Love your content as always verily informative. Semi rookie question. Is there a guide that shows what all of the switches do on the boards? I can't find a straight up guide.
@5:51, you mentioned using a HDMI male adapter to get better S-video out & dual RAM, correct? Could you explain a little more of the benefits of this & how to get that specific adapter you have? I'm relatively new to CRT on the MiSTer. Thanks!
Direct video mode lets you output native res signals from the HDMI port and then use a device in the middle to connect to an analog tv. Stuff like a RetroTink 4K. IO direct has a DAC on board so it takes direct video mode data in and converts it to analog to be output via the Saturn mini din port
The problem is you can't buy the Ironclad boards. A few runs and they've not restocked. If they're not wanting to produce more boards, at least offer up the gerber files even if they need to be purchased. There isn't a huge amount of components so shouldn't be too hard to build. Alterative is the Jammix IO Board, a MiSTer adapter turning it into a Jamma arcade edge board. While designed for arcade cabinet, it fits standard ITX layouts like the Ironclad and MiSTercade (save for having to supply your board MiSTerboard.
What are the pros and cons of the Saturn Mini-DIN-10 output that is featured on the MiSTer Addons boards vs. the usual VGA output? Are there any types of connections that are uniquely supported by one and not another?
@@VideoGameEsoterica Thanks for the response. Does this mean even 31 khz VGA is possible via that Saturn-style plug, as long as I have the appropriate cable?
i have read some people mentioned that taki's misterpi cant display the mister menu on the analog output, there is a video about the issue on Samuel Banya youtube, can you confirm if this also happen on your unit? and what could be the issue? honestly i only want to use mister pi on my crt so it would be a hassle if i need to connect another monitor just to display the menu.
Which set up should I get if I just want to play ps1 and saturn on crt with component and composite? Im debating between the analog pro, IO direct, and just waiting for taki udons board.
With the Koala Koa mister console, can you upgraded it, like with dual ram, or does it have constraints because of the case being done? I heard saturn core benefits a lot by having a mister with dual ram set up.
Right now Saturn can use dual ram. If you want dual ram and analog just go direct video mode off the hdmi to a DAC or a Scaler. I’ll have a DAC video tomorrow
The makers send these items in for review. I don’t ask for review units but I am contacted by the makers. So that’s what appears. I can’t realistically purchase everything with my own wallet in the MiSTer ecosphere to review as I’d be living in a tent under a bridge if I did. So MiSTer Addons/Taki Udon/Antonio Villena/Marsupial M3/TapTo/RetroFrog have sent items for review and they’ve appeared
@@VideoGameEsoterica true but if taki udon can close that gap then it's curtains for terasic terasic may have the edge now because they cost so much more, and most people who were going to pay that much already have (saturated market segment) taki udon is serving a more value based segment who is also willing to wait, but since it's nearly identical experience they will also capture sales from the higher brackets who can justify a small price difference for better availability, but not the huge difference that exists. IMHO terasic's only chance is to accept the situation and slash their margins. This is a rock and hard place situation: they'd alienate their existing customers who have already paid high prices and who would want partial refunds, and would make value-oriented buyers hesitant about buying from them as they will be viewed as "scalpers" (even though they were the sole supplier for Mister for a long time and had the right to charge whatever the market would allow)
@@VideoGameEsoterica building my own MiSTer project is on the top of my hobby goals when i have a bit more expendable income. im glad to see the price getting so low on them! thanks for keeping me up to date on everything until then

Love your videos! Would love a updated video going over all the options available in UpdateAll.
I’ll update that shortly
Using an original pad with the wired rafnet Saturn adaptor works well with MISTer.

Sounds like a fun box of goodies
@ I love having all signals available on the breakout style cable. I’m also very excited to try the 24 bit rendering options for N64.
24 bit color for the systems that can utilize it looks a lot better
I would like to see a 2024 mister CRT light gun video. Showing how to make a single light gun work for console cores. Keep up the awesome content!
Made and scheduled but it won’t include Sinden as I don’t have one

The DE10 board?
Yes original and clone. Dont know if theres a difference. I only find partial information for some reason.
Mostly because the info you don’t find isn’t relevant to MiSTer. Honestly even I can’t remember what the switches we never use do lol
@@VideoGameEsoterica Ok thanks. I wasnt sure if they were important. Thank you.

Nothing about the Ironclad Mini-ITX boards?
I don’t have them. I can’t purchase everything and some makers don’t contact me for review units. I don’t ask for things from people so
I have an Ironclad and it's fantastic with the Mister. I put it in a nice metal case with a USB hdd and it works like a charm.
I’ve heard good things

Just more readily available cables and less strain weight
