Battery and Charger Conversion (Nicd to Lithium) Compact Cordless Drill | RYOBI BD-120

  • This is an abandoned item in Japan as it is powered by a Nicd battery system. Most power tools today are powered by lithium battery system. This drill is still working well, expect the dead battery. In this video, I converted Nicd battery to lithium ion battery and also increased the battery capacity. New lithium batteries cannot be charged with the original charger. I also changed Nicd charger to a lithium charger too.
    The new battery pack
    - 1 BMS 3S40A 12.6V
    - 6 Lithium batteries 5C 3.7V 2500mAh
    - Voltage 12.6V
    - Capacity 5Ah
    *Note this model cannot run with BMS 3S20A
    I hope you find this video useful and enjoy!
    I am happy to receive feedback, suggestions to improve myself.
    !!! I'm sorry for the mistake if I did this video !!!
    Thank you very much for your likes, comments and subscribe!
    Have a nice day

    thanks for the tip on the LED indicator on the charging block. I liked that you even updated the voltage/amperage data on the stickers !!! That being responsible for the next person who needs to work on it or battery. Way to go !!!

    Making use of the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxcJ22tnHH9l1vjdIdEIG27iOG55P7LXI8 reconditioning plan, I just saved 2 auto batteries from being completely junked. The guides were very simple to follow. I wish I would have found this years ago! You may use the guide to recondition any battery type

    *This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries, **batery.repair** and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!*

    • @rolls_8798
      @rolls_8798 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeppekristensen5589 no, DC current does not flow through a capacitor. It is just used as a store of energy, like a mini battery which is charged by the main one, only this one is capable of releasing much more current at once.

  • @marianpelmus
    @marianpelmus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did something similar but had some issues
    my drill is 9v 1.4a (that's the values written on the old battery)
    I change it with something custom 3s2p LI-ION battery pack with 3s 40A BMS
    but on heavy load it suddenly stops and I do not know why
    measuring the voltage while this happens I was that it goes under 7 volts before it stops
    maybe that's an issue? maybe I should do a bigger battery like 4s or 4s2p with a voltage regulator
    bottom line is not that simple for all drill models

    I think the charger terminals will not work for long. They need to be spring steel like the originals.

  • @LAVINCHO1
    @LAVINCHO1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The bms of 20 does not allow the inrush of the motor, it can be solved by connecting a non-polarized capacitor on the motor terminals of approx 20nf 25v.

      @Denis-vk4vg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say yes considering two things : drills often use high drain motor and you need to make sure also the cells can stand high discharge drain. The BMS basically cuts the current to protect the cells from over discharging.

    Great video, I have learned a lot from them, thank you, but I'm still confused about a few things, please can you help me?, what's really the 5c means on any battery or more general, what 1c stands for and equal to Ah, also the capacity of the bms has to be hire then the total capacity of the battery pack(I meant discharge rate), thank you

    • @harasti
      @harasti 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      5C means if you have 2500mAh or 2.5Ah capacity, then maximum current that cell can give is 5 x 2.5 = 12.5A , practically cell can give more current but can easy overheat , that's why he make two cell in parallels 12.5A + 12.5A max 25A and BMS is 20A to protect cell , but in different battery he use 40A BMS which cant protect battery and battery work but will overheat easy and damage whole pack. 1C for battery 2500mAh its maximum 2.5A discharge current for that cell , also you can see C1 or C10 or C20 this mean different thing I can explain if some one interested?
