We’ve been working, living, and traveling on sailboats in different parts of the world for 10 years now and we recently arrived at D-Marin Turgutreis after an amazing season Exploring the Mediterranean. We’ve attempted to document our entire journey through our weekly videos but those weekly videos don’t do a great job of telling the story from a big picture perspective. So this will be the first episode of what we’re calling our Recap series, where we’ll tell the story of our entire journey from the very beginning over the course of 4 episodes. We hope you enjoy it.

It still cost money to sail the seven seas plus the fact things go wrong the cost to repair things, and a sailor needs to have a good amount of knowledge to do his own repairs more so when out at sea then he really should have some knowledge about sailing ,its not the question of ive bought a boat no i cant do repairs no i have no idea how to navigate nor anything else.

That was a heck of a lot better than I expected. Far too often recaps are mostly about self indulgence.
This was realistic, believable and sometimes brutally honest. It was well done.

I do aleady like the tone of the regular episodes (besides having only watched the Greece season yet) because i find them to be a somewhat unique komposition of indulging scenery and crusing adventure which appear to levitate about an ocean of the big questions in life like clouds on a flight above the sea. Wether it's some facts on the location and it's history about, the (maybe all too idealistic) small harbour town life, or the graduated from Athen who chose to become local farmer to live a purposeful life that his father tried to escape from (two epsioded ago) reveal the aspiration to understand what life is about.
Granted, for some people it's just the emotional or sensational experience - and i don't know if that is better or takes away anything. It just seems fact that some have to be able to reflect beauty, or luck, or the idea of living a purposful life against the harshenes, the bad and the ugly in order to truly experience it. What is good life? What does it take and what is it made up with? Why is the desireable of one the adverse in the eye of the other?
When Jordan said that he had felt unhappy about his percieved ability to judge the level his boatbuilding skills then this is the best -albeit metaphoric- essence what makes this entire channel so special. Cusing life can probably be seen as a quest. This episode reveals (probably one of) the driving forces behind this quest.

I am 74 years young. At my stage of life I often look back on the life decisions I have made. An important part of life is learning and it continues today. The energy and enthusiasm of youth is great and it is important to keep that enthusiasm for LIFE going. For all of it's issues Atticus was a great place to learn. I have always loved the look of a Ketch. Keep learning and enjoy the adventure and do not let life make you old.

Having watched all your videos, this one is your best by far. Arrogance is talent without experience. Talent, humble desire, vulnerability and hard work is the foundation of success for anything. It's amazing for me to watch you both grow as humans leading by example on how to be good humans. I wish more humans followed the life pearls of wisdom you are sharing. Don't get me wrong - I love the weekly adventures, but this is next level. And it's your fault that I bought a Shannon which I love. Thank you for your gifts to all of us.

Profound. Poetic. Exactly what I needed to see and hear as we approach 1.5 years refitting our boat. I have been having trouble understanding and coming to grips with my highs and lows, distinguishing misfortunes and miracles. Jordan’s narration just keeps getting better and better!

Long time subscriber but first time I feel compelled to thank you in writing for sharing your journey and hard fought words of wisdom. “Desperation is truly the mother of invention “. Having been there before and having learned the same lesson that “if you are willing to do anything and if you are humble doors will open” I want to thank you for this recap series. I’ve shared this episode with my 20 something kids. Here’s to having the courage to get yourself into those desperate situations in the first place.

Jordan and Desiree, I have been following your journey, now, for years. I believe I started watching just as you were about to leave Isla Mujeres. At that time I went back and watched all of your videos up to that point and have watched every episode since. Jordan, you are a natural storyteller and narrator. But this is next-level stuff. Absolutely your best work. It is a real skill that you have. You can pull your audience into your experiences with ease, or so it seems. And to have lain bare before us your entire life story, ups and downs, joys and disappointments, exhilarations, and desperations, since starting your adventures on Atticus, is a real gift to your audience. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this gift. It brought real tears to my eyes. Loved it. Though having never met the two of you, I feel like I really do know you guys. God Bless both of you and your daughter.

You two are sailing experts at your own journey. And remember to always remind your of that. Life is learning , you don’t stop because you’re an expert. I have watched you two grow up and become amazing friends, partners and parents. Thank you for all the hard work you put in your videos!

Great to see a video about rehabbing a boat from a realistic perspective. Too many of these type videos dedicate about 2 minutes to the process of going from $5000 purchase to cruise ready boat. I learned, on a much smaller boat thankfully, when I was much younger that the old advice about buying a boat "if you can't afford a nice one, you sure can't afford to fix one up" was very true.

I found you on TH-cam during the late phase of Atticus 1 and didn’t miss an episode since then. But your idea of summarizing your journey of sailing life from todays perspective is excellent. I got really emotional more than once. You grew as persons, as a couple, as sailing experts and finally as parents. Life’s a roller coaster, if one door is shut down, other doors open. But you need the patience, the eyes to see these new doors and the confidence to walk through. You are doing great. Can’t wait seeing the other three recaps.

Last year my wife and I moved from Petersburg Alaska to Juneau Alaska purchasing a house that needed a lot of fixing up and remodeling. I have to admit I have hit that wall, the point you just want it over so you can move on. Thanks for the reminder that we all occasionally want the future more than the present. Dreams take time and work, and tomorrow isn’t necessarily any better than today. Love watching your stories of inspiration!!!!

A humble personality goes a long way. I think what has worked for your guys is the fact that you guys seem to be born to each other. And a big part of adventures like these is if both parties are 100% into it.
I have watched your channel, since that video when you guys went to see Atticus I at that anchorage, all the way to this date. I know the feeling. I myself have been refitting a 35' boat which it has been on the hard for over 5 years, and working part time, 90% alone, as I'm still in the workforce, hoping to retire in late 2024. I also know the feeling of watching boats come and go from the boatyard, and my boat it still there. When my engine, a Yanmar 3GMF, seized up from not being used, I pulled it out in piecdes, took it home and rebult it myself, staring it up eight months later on my driveway, and now ready to go back in. I have come to a lot of similar reaizations. So, hang in there, it will happen. Your daughter will grow up and help with the chores. I think Atticus II is a reward for the hard work you guys put in. Looking forward to the next three videos and to watch the memories. Fair winds.

I discovered your channel through the pirate episode, and was intrigued enough to binge watch from the beginning. I was inspired, then quite frankly obsessed with the idea of live aboard cruising, but had no experience sailing. You showed me hope and possibly. I knew that if you can do it, so can I. I joined a sailing club here in Hawaii, and have been day sailing weekly for almost a year. I am subscribed to a good number of sailing channels, but yours is still my favorite. You are both excellent storytellers, the emotions, the highs and lows, and expert editing, are all reasons I keep watching. I’ve watched you grow into a wonderful little family. Thank you so much for sharing your story with the world. I look forward to your episodes every week.

I got badly beaten up by a gale crossing from the Azores to Portugal, lost the solar, dinghy and the stay sail. Ended up in Povoa de Varzim just above Porto and realised that I didn't have enough money for the repairs . . . so I looked for a job and found one in beautiful down town Porto just as last of my money was just about finished. Now working for four months and trying to save while working on the boat weekends, I will be here for at least a year maybe longer. The gale was an experience not to forget but working in Portugal is also a fantastic opportunity. All experiences help build you as a person. I can relate to your story.

On a smaller scale this is my story as well, it's been over a year since I bought my boat which was going to "take a few weeks perhaps a month or two to fix up and get outta here". A year later and every penny we have had we are about to launch her back into the water. A couple of months messing around where she is then a 150 mile trip to her permanent moorings where as I tell my wife constantly, she will become a boat instead of a bottomless money pit that has brought us nothing but tears and heartache thus far.

WHOA! I watch dozens of sailing channels. I went back to the beginning of your channel and watched them, in order, until I watched them all. No one has better sailing skills. No one has better boat build and refit skills. No one has better videography skills. No one has better relationship/family skills. (I’m sure you don’t air dirty laundry on camera, but as a minister, teacher, counselor, and home builder, I think I am perceptive.) You DO stress out easily, but you’re aware and working on it. I think this retrospective will be good for you. You are growing. Your confidence will continue to grow too. I’ve wanted to write these things to you, for months. I look forward to each episode and all your future adventures. Be safe, but enjoy the adventure. ~ Doc

4:15 My wife and I did a complete rebuild of a Columbia 29 in Seward Alaska back in 1985. We spent a whole summer on it. My wife almost divorced me over it.. 🙂 We spent the next 15 years sailing the coast of Alaska with that boat for months at a time. We sailed from Homer in Kachemak bay to Valdez, Cordova and Whittier in Prince William sound. Our daughter was 3 months old when we took her sailing for 2 months in Prince William sound. Those were great times. Enjoy this time with your family, life is a short trip. Great retrospective. Thanks for the video.

Great video! Honest and well narrated.
Brings back so many memories. My wife and I have lived all your experiences from boat yard to Cuba and beyond.
Finding a woman that will live in a boat yard for three years is the very best filter for a wife! She is the real treasure.
You have talent. Keep it up!

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I really appreciate your perspective on life’s low points being a doorway to new opportunities! Never give up on your self or your life no matter how low it gets. Take it from a 74 year old guy that has learned that exact lesson in many up’s and downs. I look forward to following your adventures and I really enjoy watching Isa grow up!😊
