ATTENTION THOSE WHO DON'T GET MY ACCENT: Due to world-wide media not accurately representing the Scottish accent, a (somewhat hilarious/depressing) 12% of my viewers watch my videos with subtitles on. Lucky for them, DaVinci Resolve has an auto-generate subtitle feature which *kind of* works pretty well. Long story short, I spent 2 hours adding proper subtitles to this video. I hope people appreciate the extra effort and know that Shrek and Outlander is not what 90% of Scottish people actually sound like. Peace, love, and muscle - thanks for watching xx
Before this came out I one hundred percented the N'Sane Trilogy because I had never done so during my childhood. I was ready to do this with Crash 4 but I only got six or seven hours in before dropping the game. I didn't even finish it casually. With every passing hour I learned about a new bullshit thing I would have to do to finish the game but what really broke me is when I got a perfect run medal by accident and realized I would need that for every single fucking level. After some quick googling I also learned the platinum relics were also required and I never played again. I hated getting the gold relics but did them because they were mostly reasonable and I wanted to actually complete those games. It wasn't simply there was too much to do but that all of it was terribly designed and simply not fun to complete.
It's games like Crash 4 that make me grateful for the way Yoshi's Island handled collectables. In that there's the same amount in stage 1-1 as there is in 6-8. Makes it so much more sober.
This is the first video I've seen that describes how I feel about this game perfectly. It's really well made but so incredibly frustrating and tedious that I just quit playing. I hate the bonus rounds.
@@crashbandicoot430 I think the bonus rounds work well enough on their own like the flashback tapes do. The problem is they're in the middle of already super long levels with ridiculous box placement, so you waste so much time and frustration on a bonus round and it didn't even matter because you already missed some random box behind a rock offscreen.
Eh, I wouldn't even call it "fun when you figure it out". Even just playing it casually, not going for boxes anymore and just trying to beat the levels, it legit burned me out and I just stopped. Wrath of Cortex is the true Crash 4 for me. That's a game I actually have fun in and have played multiple times, like the original trilogy. Also, one more thing to mention is the loooooong load times every time you have to restart a level. So the game's not only tedious, extremely difficult and unfair, it's so punishing, too.
Lets not forget, Wrath Of Cortex levels do not overstay their welcome. The gauntlet and Gold Rush I believe are only long levels and even then, they are still reasonable AND the only part where you are not allowed to die is for the Death Routes. There is honestly more to bash Crash 4 its about time on, but there is no point. Damage's been done, but hopefully never again like this.
I am subscriber number 807 from Algeria and I must say that your videos are amazing. You make me laugh multiple times in each video with funny jokes, great acting, the show is very entertaining and the content is exactly what I enjoy. Damn TH-cam algorithms, this channel deserves better.
Algeria? That's amazing! Thanks so much for th kind words, it always encourages to get working on the next project knowing there's people out there who really enjoy it 😊 Enjoy your stay, friend!
You summed it up very well. This game is designed to be a fucking chore and not a fun experience. I too gave up on it at the first Cortex level (the prehistoric one) as I could not stand how ludicrous the controls were. People can always say “hey these extra collectibles are not required to beat the game” but why the fuck are you playing a collect-a-thon if you are not intended to collect everything.
I think you've pinpointed well why, even after enjoying most of the previous entries in the series, even the more flawed ones in the 2000s era, I just couldn't get into this one. I feel like Toys For Bob have this outlook that 'casual gamers who like to play games for an hour or so to wind down' is a sugar coated term for 'sissies who can't be bothered to learn how to play a game'. If you're having a laid back experience, the game isn't challenging you enough, and they find some cheap as hell ways to challenge you too, like the deliberately cluttered graphics of the game, and even making a whole mode devoted to exagerrating that to eleven. There isn't much momentum or reward to getting better either, time trials actually PUNISH level memorization by switching around layouts, and finding one hidden crate won't make you any better finding all the others. It even kinda seeps into the story, how our player, light hearted Crash, is constantly eye rolled and sneered at by the others because he sorta just barely bungled his way through the game, rather than doing it all PERFECTLY like 'hardcore' Tawna or his e sports sister. Just like the game sneers at you for only getting a basic sapphire relic instead of a platinum or only getting 39302 out of 39303 crates. That Crash is apparently meant to be 'serious hardcore stuff' instead of a fun laugh. This game is your own personal smarmy 'pro gamer' bully. :P It's also kinda part why I'm not sure if I want Toys For Bob working on an 'easier' Crash platformer, since I get the feeling their approach to making it easier is less making it more rounded and enjoyable but simply making it more patronizing and bland. I mean they actually said they thought this one wasn't hard ENOUGH. They think Crash is supposed to be THAT demanding. Even their next step being a multiplayer game was to make it online only. What, you're one of those that just plays offline with a couple of friends in your house? What century are you from?? And this is a developer that bragged over and over that they GOT Crash and were returning things to their roots.
This was a very entertaining review of why I found myself avoiding playing the game. I'll give it a shot with this new mindset. Looking forward to more reviews.
Considering how many times I ended up 1 box short it feels like the game was intentionally designed that way. Crash 4 is like 2 games, one being my first go at a level where I stop every 2 inches looking around for boxes, backtrack, and kill myself after realizing mistakes- the second game being where I then play the same level “for real” after getting everything and have a pretty good time because there’s actually a fun game under there.
I grew up with the trilogy and was hyped when the N Sane trilogy released. I was psyched for the next new Crash game but boy did this let me down. Too damn tedious, repetitive, the levels are too long and grindy. Ending up dropping Crash 4 halfway through, its not fun.
3:07 freaking agree, there's the base for the best Crash Bandicoot game, but these small things make the game very frustrating, i really want to talk to the employee that had the completion and crate ideas. I am going back to Wrath of Cortex, twinsanity and the GBA games, my favourite Crash timeline btw.
Amazing video! I loved the sense of humor lol. I got the platinum trophy for the game after 230 hours of TORTURE, and I’ll never touch it again. It’s a fun game to play casually, but they WAY overdid the requirements for 106% By FAR the hardest thing I’ve done in gaming, and I have some really difficult plats like all FromSoft games, Devil May Cry 4 and 5, and Cuphead…
Hit the nail on the head here. Personally, I would enjoy this game infinitely more if the percect relics didn'r exist. I could handle the other flaws without much trouble. While very solid, the game just isnt consistent enough to expect perfection.
I can't even finish this game 😂 I hate the different masks especially the upside down one. This is why Crash 1 was the best. No double jump, no special masks, just basic platforming that is just challenging enough to be rewarding when you complete it.
Just replayed the N'sane Trilogy and must admit, Crash 4 is clearly superior in regards to gameplay, diversity and physics. Without the perfect relic and platinum relic requirements, this game would be my ultimate Crash Bandicoot experience. Just casually playing it is also so much more fun, with some frustrating attempts to get a platinum relic or the 3 death gem once in a while every few weeks or months. Maybe I'll actually complete it in the far future - just never in one go, and only with the help of a video guide for mostly each level.
Personally I find this to be the best Crash Bandicoot game ever made, that's with a lot of personal biases due to my history with Crash games. I had been speedrunning the original trilogy for years and have a strong association with the franchise in all the games. I understand the points where the franchise dropped in quality while lacking direction, which makes me love Crash 4: IAT more. This game is simply perfect for people heavily knowledgeable with the original games. After a long awaited return to formula, this was not the direction the game needed at present but would've been welcome down the line. Newbies had been pulled in with the crazy sales of the N.Sane trilogy and had a strong core audience again. Crash 4 IAT did not follow that trend, went straight to expert and diverted sales to more accessible/easier games. For example, I knew someone that did not purchase Crash 4 for his son because the difficulty reasons but instead bought Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair instead. Which is also a fantastic game. This does not discredit Crash 4 IAT as a stand alone game, because it really is a fantastic game : No performance issues Tight controls Varied level designs that feel fresh N Sane Perfect Relics (would've been better as a challenge and not a part of the overall %) Respects the roots of the game Fantastic for experts, intimidating for rookie/amateurs.
Gosh, I finished Crash 4 twice... Once when it came out and then I finished again recently, I just forgot how much I hated the difficulty of this game. Imo, Crash 2 is the most fun, specially to do 100%... Crash 4 is a big NO for me.
