- Welcome!
We are a homesteading, homeschooling family of 7. Due to recent events (job loss/career change, health issues, rising food costs, etc.) we are having a hard time making ends meet despite our best efforts at frugality. So we are tapping into our local food banks to help us feed our family. Come along as I show you what we are blessed with, what we add to it via grocery store and garden, and how I use it all to nourish our bodies.
Thanks for watching and God bless!

$416 for a month is excellent. I have already spent $600 in two weeks for 5 people.
She also goes to food pantries that's where her money savings come from
Wow! I watch another TH-camr and she says $100 per person per month is a good rule.
@@Myfavorites877 it really can depend so much on where you live, food restrictions and such.
@@weepingwillowhomestead True. Also if you buy pre-prepped or packaged items. Also try to buy on sale. Sales aren’t as good as they used to be.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way because you're absolutely right in feeding your family the way that you do. However, as someone who watches you from Argentina (where last month's inflation alone was over 25%), it fascinates me and blows my mind that these types of food are considered frugal in the US. Here, most things you showed would be discretionary expenses without a doubt. It's not a judgment at all, just a reflection on the differences. Keep up the great content, and sending warm regards from Argentina!
What do you buy?
I was in Argentina in October, I was shocked by many of the prices and how they changed daily. I have traveled all over but it shocked me the number of people yelling Cambio (not sure of spelling) to exchange currency. I had local currency but my US dollars I had on me went so much further. Several locals we talked to or spent time with talked about 100% inflation. It was eye opening. That is not a judgement because we’ve traveled all over, but 100% inflation broke my heart, I pray things get better quickly for the people of your country.
Congratulations on 5 thousand subscribers. I’m as frugal as I can be. Thank you for showing how to stretch things and keep them simple. As a person with health issues and need simple ideas, it’s very appreciated 😊
For the ribs, I usually just cut them into say 3-4 ribs, then put lots of onion, garlic powder and s&p and whatever you would like on them..both sides. I then pour my favorite BBQ sauce on them to coat them.I use sweet Baby Rays.. I cover them with tin foil and seal tightly.... Then put in 350 oven for at least 2 hours... The meat just falls off the bones, Yum! (Make sure the tin foil is sealed tightly all the way around the casserole dish..
We do a budget but for the year, set our budget is 300 a month, we got a side of beef a few months ago to split with our grown kids. It was a big hit that month but break it down in our yearly budget (12 months x budget) it’s great. So if budget 300 that means goes to 250 rest of year to cover costs. Having a pantry to supplement makes that possible
I doctor up oatmeal. I add walnuts and raisins and peanut butter and chopped apple, etc and then it is quite a tasty breakfast.
I eat similar to you, so I like watching for ideas of what you’re personally eating for ideas.
Today, i thought must try that Big Mac salad she does.
I blanche and freeze my carrots broccoli, and turnip too.. I am going to start chopping onions, celery and chopped carrots as a soup starter and freeze as well.. I would eat that entire bag of cookies in one sitting...lol Love your willpower. Those peanut M&M's would be gone in one night, for me, in bed while watching a movie..lol I dont know how I am not overweight...lol I made a huge Taco salad for dinner last night, and as usual it was so good.. Shred as much lettuce as you need saute ground beef add taco seasoning and layer over lettuce, layer some crushed tortilla chips, add shredded cheese, and green onions, chopped tomatoes and then Catalina dressing... It is so good. Thought maybe you might like this for Big Salad night... Congratulations on 5000 subscribers!
When my kids were little, I was on wick for awhile. It is very hard to do but you’re right, the kids were fed.
I like the way you explain how you use your purchases. You're a very frugal and organized mama. Great job and thanks for sharing.
Congratulations on hitting 5,000 subscribers. That's amazing news .. It's very well deserved. God bless you and your family 🙏
A tip for broccoli 🥦
I wrap mine in paper towel and put them into a freezer bag....then into the fridge....
Forgot about some i had bought and nearly two weeks later found them.... looking perfect 👌
You could cook a chicken in the crock pot for an easy Saturday dinner. Even chefs don’t make pastry. I hope the kid has a great birthday. The food pantry may have things set aside for birthdays and they can help etc. You can freeze bananas on sticks and dunk in chocolate when frozen as an ice cream alternative.
Your such blessing I am sure in how feed your family and being great homeschool mom. You have shown others that there is help out there we should ever judge anyone because most of us live from paid check to pay check.
You do your meal list like I do. I have a full stocked freezer & pantry. I go through to see what I have or need to use up. I always pick up what I need to complete meals, sales ads or whatever I’m running low on. I just don’t go to the store very often. Then grab anything I or my family might want to cook in the future. I buy almost everything at a good sale price. I’m kind of cheap, but we eat good healthy food. Never waste a bone for sure.😊
Great point, if you’re stocked you can wait for a sale to make it count!
You should throw a 5000 party with your triple fruit crumble and root beer floats. You could find out interesting things about 5k like how far it is and how deep/tall it would be, and how different 5000 of one thing is compared to another. That might make an interesting lesson.
I'm 68yrs.old and I have never spent that much money at one time on groceries. May God bless y'all 🙏 👵
lost my post. drat! congrats on 5k. that is wonderful! lots of good meals in the making. you are a smart shopper. i enjoy your videos so much.
Super impressed! I know that in the last two months, we spent about $1500 😢😢😢😢
We had a lot of financial blessings because of the move and hubby not having a job, but I realized just how much I depended on food pantries
We skipped the one for 3 weeks and I saw the difference so I can imagine a couple months. ❤️
Great haul! And congratulations on hitting 5,000 subscribers you deserve all the great things and we all love you.
I just learned pre-shredded cheese also has antibiotics in it. I never caught that before, but I have started shredding my own to avoid that.
Great score love your videos thanks ❤😊
Congrats 🎉. I really enjoy watching your creative meals! Most of us have had seasons in our lives when we needed a help up❤️
We got duck eggs at our food pantry the other day. Ive never had them before, but we tried them, and theyre very good. I was a little leery at first but pleasantly surprised. Lol
How are they different and how are they similar to regular chicken eggs also what is their size?
Oh yeah!! You'll get 10k! Keep up the good work and God bless!🙏
Congratulations on 5,000 subscribers!

I would love to see your baked oatmeal recipe if you don’t mind sharing
Im Treena from Oklahoma. Im pretty new to your channel. You are a great inspiration. Anyone who needs assistance should reach out and i commend everyone who does what they need to do to take care of their family. God Bless!
Have you ever shared your muffin recipe? I would love to try it out! I want to make them in the tiny muffin tins for my grandkiddos to take to daycare for breakfast. Have you ever tried the Cara Cara oranges? They are amazing ❤ I don't know if we have ever seen your face , but I love the sound of your voice 😊
I have not shared my muffin recipe that I know of. I'll have to type that one up.
I am not sure if I've ever had Cara Cara oranges. I've heard they are tasty.
I actually don't show my face. I'm actually a very private person in real life so I just prefer not to. And in today's crazy world, I feel like it is safer.
I went to a food pantry yesterday
❤❤ I do enjoy your videos sometimes I don't but most of The Times I do.😊😊
When is it that you don't enjoy it?
Congratulations on 5K!
Deer meat is disgusting but I can stomach it when I soak in milk for 30 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Definately try it
😊❤😊
Hello my cooking mom
Just out of curiosity, is your block cheese cheaper than shredded too? Here in Australia block cheese is around $1.50 -$2.50 per kilo cheaper than shredded. I not only buy it for that reason but because I don't like the texture of shredded cheese and the additives. I've not noticed the powder you mention in yours, but our shredded has corn or soy flour and other crap...at least 10%.of it is additions!
Shredded is usually a little cheaper than the block cheese. Probably because of the additives.
@@weepingwillowhomestead oh wow! Isn't it funny how thing's are different between countries!!
@@TheLifeOfAliInAustralia I love watching grocery Hauls from other countries. It is always so interesting.
@@weepingwillowhomestead me too lol!! I'm so nosey lol!! 🤣🤣 but I'm also a bit nerdy and do price and weight conversions from other countries to $AUD to accurately compare 🤣😂 Eg, your $66 meat/ cheese tray from the food pantry the other video is $100.27 AUD, which is crazy!!
@@TheLifeOfAliInAustralia I'm still over here trying to convert 40°C from your recent video into F°. 🤣
Have you ever tried other grocery stores? Sometimes here aldi is not the cheapest. I check sales
I have found that Aldi is the cheapest on most things. So driving to 3 other stores to save a few dollars doesn't seem worth it.
cellulose also doesn't taste good
Congratulations on your 5,000
