I’m glad you have this channel. I’ve been following you at raven claw and seen articles in you and your harvests. I’m Just a trad now guy as of now but just cut my own stave and have learned some cool things about primitive through your podcast, ravenclaw, and now this. Thanks!
Deadly. I howled when I saw all the shaking. That is exactly why you hunt. When you don't get the shakes, it's time to start sky diving or something... Cool hunt.
Your bow has some real character i like it , been there done that , but i prefer a good strong stone point over glass. although it will defiantly do the job.
Thanks! Even on the spine obsidian held up well. I have no desire to change from it, 3 out of the 3 animals I’ve shot at have died ethically from them at this point.
Yes, been excited for this one since seeing all the posts going around about you and the OK bear. And to add, now I know your channel and am subscribed. Lol
Hey Caleb, that's a huge accomplishment! few hunters can do what you just did! that's awesome! I subscribed! I'm up here in N.Y. hunting deer with my selfbow and stone tipped arrows from a ground blind.
Hey Sean, I know the editing may make it look like the bear was laying there the second shot but it was running away. I don’t believe the first shot would’ve been fatal (it initially hit spine and dropped the bear, but she regained movement in her back legs and got up to run away). The bear was running from the barrell to the woods and stopped for a second or two as it got stuck on some vines going through the trees. I don’t think the bear would’ve died unless I got that second arrow in the vitals like I was able to.
I’m from Alabama. Went on my first bear hunt a month ago in North Georgia. Using traditional gear too (although not as traditional as you). Anyway… I’ve watched a lot of bear hunting videos over the last year, and this might just be my favorite one. Great job. Thanks for sharing. You have a new subscriber.
Jimmy, thanks man that means a lot. Filming/editing is a lot of extra work, but I love sharing them with family and like minded people. I seriously don’t even have tv subscription because I just watch TH-cam, glad I could provide some content myself.
@@Traditionalbowhunter Well… I look forward to seeing more. Particularly the bear hunting. I’ve sort of become consumed with it. No baiting in Georgia. So I was on the ground with my bow. My heart was pumping the whole time.
What a fabulous hunt ! Congratulations On your bear and primitive bow. Gotta Luv Osage and obsidian. What is the poundage of your bow ? Looking forward to your videos. Byron/Texas
Now that's an accomplishment to be proud of. What a sweet bow . Beautiful. After 3 attempts I've got my first self bow . Shooting rosewood shafts, made everything. Except my string is B55. I was making another obsidian point and watched you smoke that bear. No bear hear but some nice Illinois river bottom bucks. How did your obsidian heads hold up?
Really great video. I would be shaking also. The voyageurs would try to get bear if they could. They liked the meat and used the grease as did the native Americans.
55 pounds at 26” 420 grain total arrow weight, 62 of that being the head. Keep in mind this is a primitive self bow, a typical laminate recurve or longbow will have higher performance, which is why I went a bit heavier with this bow
There’s nothing in the 2023 regs that states it’s illegal, after talking to the head bear biologist he confirmed it is legal to shoot a sow or cubs although they discourage it. I do know of cubs being shot and It being legal. Crazy I know, thankfully Oklahoma protects them
Very very cool man! I’ve been trying to kill a bear with a selfbow too for a while now in az where we can’t bait…. Still working on it…. Thanks for the motivation. Great bear!
Don’t you feel guilty for making another sentient being go through pain and suffering simply for sport? This is my first time watching a video from you, maybe you hunt out of actual necessity?
No simply for sport. Bear meat was saved, fat saved, hide saved. All will be eaten and used. I’m assuming you either buy meat at the store (and subsidize animals living in their own filth until they are slaughtered) or you’re a vegan and subsidize the massive industrial farming complex that mows down thousands of acres of animal habitat to grow your vegetables. Have you ever seen how many animals die during harvest? It’s the circle of life, we’re animals just as bears are.
Fellow Oklahoma bowhunter aspiring to do the same. Your accomplishments and videos are an inspiration. Keep it up and God bless.

You got it done the the hard way, the old way, the best way. Congrats!

Thank you sir! I love watching your videos, and you’re right, Lots of time, money, and sweat lead to this moment, it was very rewarding
Just a great video of the Most traditional bear harvest I have ever seen!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I felt adrenaline😆😆😆😆😆😆👏🏽👏🏽
Stand proud!! Hope you never loose that traditional drive and you have many more hunts!!

Great job good one 😊
Made several self bows from hickory 80-90# pull . Never from the Osage. Amazing how fast and accurate they shoot. Good video.👍
Its performance is hard to beat!
Congrats man! That’s quite an accomplishment. So cool.
Thanks a ton!
Great video, Caleb! I really enjoyed it.

@@Traditionalbowhunter thanks man!
Mikes the man for sure.
He’s awesome no doubt
Super awesome, congratulations
Your bear was going to lay down across from your tree and pass. But your adrenaline breathing spooked the bear. Congrats. Made the shot to!

Absolutely loved your hunt! I'm in Southern Arkansas. I love your bow as well! Looks like a witch or warlock killer.
Awesome hunt man keep the videos up about trad an your bow building shooting or anything

What a beautiful bow! Love it! And Man!!!! How I can feel your shakes! Adrenalin 1000%! congrats on managing to deal with it! great Job!
Thank you, it was a bit challenging to tiller but it came out great and shoots awesome

Rad AF!
Thanks!
Awesome job, very well deserved.
Thank you Mike!
awesome job. love the bow, great finish shot. been making osage bows for a while. live south of there in the Ouachita mountains.

How did your obsidian heads hold up?
All in good shape, even the one that hit the spine. My Oklahoma bear broke off one notch and that was it.
thats one badass hunting thanks I will be watching👍👍👍👍👍👍
Really great video. I would be shaking also. The voyageurs would try to get bear if they could. They liked the meat and used the grease as did the native Americans.
Can i ask you the poundage of the bow and weight of the arrow? Because i have never seen someone hunting a bear with a stone point
55 pounds at 26”
420 grain total arrow weight, 62 of that being the head.
Keep in mind this is a primitive self bow, a typical laminate recurve or longbow will have higher performance, which is why I went a bit heavier with this bow
The shaking. The heavy breathing. The NERVES. THAT IS WHY I LOVE HUNTING WITH TRADITIONAL EQUIPMENT 💪💪💪
Sub’d. You planning on doing any more bow building videos?
Yeah I can definitely do some more of that
Killer!!!
"Please don't shoot bears with cubs" it's in the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission hunting guide book with photo!!!
There’s nothing in the 2023 regs that states it’s illegal, after talking to the head bear biologist he confirmed it is legal to shoot a sow or cubs although they discourage it. I do know of cubs being shot and It being legal. Crazy I know, thankfully Oklahoma protects them
What did you use the best for? Did you eat it? Mount it or just keep the hide?
This one is being shoulder mounted and saving the rest of the hide. All the meat was saved and is being eaten. Bear meat is actually really good
I need to know what quiver that is please
Creekwalker, absolutely love them
Very very cool man! I’ve been trying to kill a bear with a selfbow too for a while now in az where we can’t bait…. Still working on it…. Thanks for the motivation. Great bear!
Thank you! That’s a tough feat for sure to get in range
Now Animal Defenders will castrate the author by the Stone Tipped scissors.
Shakey maggie good shot tho
