My Dad made me stone points for my Handmade Osage Long Bow when I was 12. I bagged a 4 point buck. I am 67 now. I love this story and it makes me proud to use primitive archery.
I drive fuel tankers, spend about 10 hrs a day bored in my truck, listened to one "bear grease" episode and got hooked. I went back & listened to literally every episode, one of my favorites. Great story telling with really interesting topics.
Wonderful presentation. Many larger mainstream videos about these topics miss out on the smaller details but you got it all here. I am especially happy that you showed how deadly and efficient this technology really was with that bear kill. Bravo!!
This show needs to be required for most wildlife and humanities courses. This is how you get people interested and involved with archeology and history without politics.
I have watched thousands of hunting videos!!! This is one of the best. But of course, it's clay Newcomb. Everything the man does is gold!!! Fantastic series!!!
This has to be one of your best episodes yet. To look into the past and then actually use what you've learned on a hunt, Mr Newcomb, you are the epitome of a steward for hunting and conservation.
Clay's storytelling carries warmth and humility. Thanks for taking us on your journey and weaving this centuries-old story into some great entertainment.
Clay Newcomb is fast becoming my favorite hunter to watch! The passion with which he presents his stories makes for great entertainment. You know he Genuinely cares about his place and ours in the natural world. The poise with all those bears around was awesome to see as well, Keep em comin man!
I am literally calling this film the very best I've seen in my lifetime. Mr. Newcomb, I have seen hundreds of hunts. This has been the most enjoyable to watch and learn from. Congratulations to such a wonderful and educational film! From an Arkansan to an Arkansan, God bless and good hunting to you in the years to come.
You're the best Clay! thanks as always for the wisdom, insight, and respect for the nature and wilderness. Praying for a safe year of fun and adventure for you and your family.
This series has quickly become my favorite. I really enjoy old timey US history, archeology, and of course, hunting. Well done and I look forward to many more episodes!
Can’t get enough of Clays history telling. Love the Bear Grease pod cast and now this series compliments it perfectly! The production of Meat Eater and its amazing crew is next level. It’s amazing we live in a time when we have this learning experience at our finger tips. Thank you guys for all your hard super quality work your giving us!
Mr. Newcomb. This is a very important video that shows us our past. Thank you and all the Meat Eater crew. One of the very best anyone has shown us of our past.
Outstanding new series! Coming from one of my absolute favorite podcasts this Bear Grease Roadshow is a fantastic addition, not many people can tell a story like Clay! You are NOT gonna wanna miss this one!!
Have you thought about recording them with the THC? I don't know a lot about the laws in Texas, and I assume you mean collecting on private land, but they do have an Archaeological Stewardship Network program for volunteers.
@@IvanIvanoIvanovich yes sir, all legal here in Texas to dig private property. The only artifact I found worth documenting was a brass Spanish trade gorget, to local tribes. I’m currently working with an archaeologist to do proper documentation as well. I’ve never found any Folsom culture artifacts, however I’ve found a couple broke Clovis projectile points.
@@lucaspeterson8701 That's awesome! I think we all hope for a Clovis in our career so congrats! The Spanish presence in Texas is so fascinating too. I was working out in Southern Oklahoma/North Texas and had my fingers crossed to find anything related to the Battle of the Two Villages since we were in the Spanish Fort area.
This was such a cool hunt.thank you clay for letting the world come with you on such a life changing hunt . And showing what it means to be a true woodsman.
I was just out in Folsom, New Mexico, and the Raton area last year for a Pronghorn hunt. Harvested a beautiful antelope and got to learn a lot of the cool history there. I was at that same museum. Great memories. I hope I get the opportunity to go back. It's like a step back in time
I listened to the podcast when it came out and was completely blown away by it and now we have this video and it’s amazing. Thanks for putting this out there. Good work and great job!
Clay, you’re the kind of inspiring man I’d love to sit next to at a camp fire and talk to. You don’t need to use a radio voice in your narration to keep me captivated. Great episode. I can’t wait for the next one.
Hard to put into words how amazing of a show this was! I have discribed my hunting to others as something that awakens and fulfills me at a DNA level, that its something I am *supposed* to be doing as a human. This episode captured that feeling.
Been to the Folsom museum twice, glad to see such a well done film on the subject. Please continue this work Clay, there's a lot of stories out there that could benefit from your talents.
I'm not surprised, but extremely impressed that the head did not break inside the bear. The idea that you can reuse your stone arrowheads is awesome. I used to make my own bows and arrows when I was a kid, and often the heads would snap on something hard, but I never had the chance to hunt real game with them. This such a great video! God Bless*
Thank you for this! I have been so curious about the Folsom site since listening to the podcast. To see the site on this episode was amazing and only makes me want to visit that much more. This series is so far great, can’t wait for more.
Great work, Clay! I was fascinated by the BG Folsom podcast series. Capturing the history and implementing it today is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
Every effort improves our understanding. The breakage shows why we flintknappers like them so well, and the thinness.. The points are both attractive and utilitarian. They made them for the same reason we do, because they can. I love how controlled this method is, and the large channell flakes. Nice presentation.
This mini series is great. I really appreciate the level of detail and work you put in to making this hunt successful, and more importantly I appreciate the effort you put in to telling the history behind all of this. This is my favorite episode of anything that meateater has put out. Really enjoying your new series so far Clay!
I know MeatEater is always looking for new content and avenues, and this, is one of the best new series in a while. It's a perfect addition to the brand. I'm sure I'm biased, but things like the Canadian angle do nothing for me, this though, is exactly why i love MeatEater. Education more than anything has always been y'alls earmark, whether it's new hunters, old hunters, non hunters, etc. I didn't hunt when i found y'all, and i do now in large part because of what I've learned here. Don't lose that, keep it up.
HOLY SH#@!!! 🤯 Dude, that was SO FAST!😲 Props, on the kill and DAAAAAAMN on the whole hunt and stalk....not to mention the patience!!! PROPS MAN PROPS!👊😎 This was nuthin short of takin it back to the "ol days" AND bringing it to the now and proper. This is what hunting is down to the bare bones. Plz keep this series coming, not only for myself, but for further generations to come. Peace✌😎(salute👊😑)
Love seeing sponsored by Work Sharp!! Absolutely a great company. I own several of their sharpeners. And have had nothing but great things with them as well as their customer service.
Outstanding Clay Newcomb! You my friend are the superstar of the Meateater crew! Everything you produce is magic to the ears and eyes of this Ol Kentucky boy. Now all I have to do is buy me one of those Bear Grease hats! Keep it up Clay.
This was a fantastic supplement to the Bear Grease Folsom podcasts. The MeatEater crew has likely sparked a renewed interest in Folsom points in general with several great podcasts on them between MeatEater and Bear Grease. Love it.
That is sooooo freakin cool. I just had surgery on my arm to hopefully be able to shoot my bow again. My goal is an elk with a traditional bow. I can't even imagine upping that with a stone point... Wow, all I can say is WOW! MeatEater keeps knocking it out of the park with these series. Great job on this hunt and this series!
@Clay Newcomb! I was so excited to see this video drop!! I, along with many others I’m sure, have been waiting on it since you talked about it on the podcast. This was incredible! What a story, for you, the MeatEater brand, and your family. Congratulations sir 🫡

That osage orange is harder than common core math
Awesome to hear
Epic and sacred ❤
My first ever deer I shot was with a traditional wood bow I made myself

My new favorite mini series. Combining hunting with history and archaeology. I can’t wait for more episodes!
You said it! We'd like more Bear Grease, please and thank you!!!
It’s pretty awesome

I love this so much. Plz make 800 episodes. There's nothing else I need to be watching. It grabs me by the soul.
Wonderful presentation. Many larger mainstream videos about these topics miss out on the smaller details but you got it all here. I am especially happy that you showed how deadly and efficient this technology really was with that bear kill. Bravo!!
Did you ever get a deer with one of the points you made on your channel?
@@Steve-ev6vx I have not hunted with them yet, hard to hunt more than one weekend since I am in university
This show needs to be required for most wildlife and humanities courses. This is how you get people interested and involved with archeology and history without politics.
Unfortunately, history IS political. The winners write the history and are always categorized as "the good guys".
This is probably the most inspirational and wholesome pure thing on the internet. Thank you clay and meat eater for doing this epic work!!!!
Huge agree

Easily my favorite video from any meateater production, ever. For many reasons, can't wait to see more stuff like this.
I love what clay is doing with this series. Truly look forward to each of these episodes.
Steven once again proves he is the best ambassador the hunting conservation community has.
Very nice!
Clay's storytelling carries warmth and humility. Thanks for taking us on your journey and weaving this centuries-old story into some great entertainment.
Well said JD collins!
Clay Newcomb, the best story teller and narrator there is.
Grew up in Arizona we’d find arrow heads and pottery all the time. Went to school with Navajo kids are fry bread. Good times out there! 💪🇺🇸💯

Awesome film. Really enjoy Clay's enthusiasm for long-forgotten tales of incredible outdoorsmen.
This was an incredible episode! Clay is such a true genuine backwoodsman and sportsman. Can’t wait for future episodes!

Great to see a more traditional angle on MeatEater.
