Big Buck With Yew Selfbow Recurve
I was able to take a beautiful buck with my Yew Selfbow i built this year. The bow is 63" and 50 pounds at my 26" draw. It is made of pacific yew, backed with goat rawhide under timber rattlesnake skin, deer antler limb tips, cow horn belly overlays, and beavertail leather grip. Using a doug fir wood arrows tipped with vintage wolverine broadheads and a creekwalker quiver.

My wife Kari, has been practicing hard with her longbow leading up to season. She’s extremely consistent, and you can tell her practice pays off on this bowhunt.

Historic Harvest, Huge Oklahoma Black Bear with Homemade Bow and Arrow
มุมมอง 13K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
After four years of hunting bears in Oklahoma with primitive archery tackle, it finally happens on this hunt. This is the first primitive archery harvest of a black bear in oklahoma in over 100 years, the last person to do so was likely a native american. If you are interested in buying a bow like the one i made in the video, you can visit my online store at ravenclawarchery.com This hunt takes...

So cool
That's on my bucket list.
Where did you buy that awesome quiver?
Very cool, congratulations 😊
Nice shot!
What bow is that and how do you have it set up?
It’s listed in the video description
Awesome!!!
Stand proud!! Hope you never loose that traditional drive and you have many more hunts!!
Is she using a swacker broadhead????
No a 2 blade fixed. Would never use an expandable on a traditional bow
It just looked like a swacker in video,
Swacker makes fixed blade too
What a great shot!! Congrats to both of yall.
What camo is that
Asat
Nice bow
Heck ya! Is this your girl man? That was a great shot!……what’s the draw weight of her bow and arrow specs?? Thanks brother! Congrats ma’am!
Wow what a shot! she stayed so calm and cool 😎 you seemed more excited than she was 😅
Perfect shot 👌 😊
Awesome! Congrats!
Such an accomplishment!!!! Great shot! Nice buck. So much goes into the kind of archery we are doing huh? I'm on my second year looking to close the deal with a long bow..
amazing video and she made awsome shot on that small buck
Nice shot. Congratulations ! That's a recurve, not a "longbow".
Correct. I guess I mistyped in the description and wrote longbow as that’s what I typically shoot, but yes shes shooting her recurve. At least I got the title right lol
Congrats, great shot and with stick and string, Doesn't get any better.
Congratulations!!!
1st recurve kill ! Congratulations!
Exactly, I don't know why they're calling it a "longbow" in the video caption.
Great shot. Congratulations
Good hit!
Smoked it! Nice shot congrats
What an awesome hunt, a big congrats to you young lady,so good to see you both enjoying God’s creation together, Yeeeeeeeesssssss
Great shot!!!
Congratulations on a nice trophy!
Shakey maggie good shot tho
BRAVO; great job young man..... pat your self on the back for doing it Primitive"
How much are yew staves a piece on average?

Need some help man…. So I was trying to determine my exact draw length by marking my arrow with 1” increments and coming to full draw and having my girlfriend record it on her phone to see exactly what length I was drawing….I thought I was around 27” but I was only around 25.5”!!! I thought theirs no way that’s true so I did some investigating and here’s what I found….when I first strung the bow it was brand new, never been shot. I measured the brace height and it was exactly 7.5” which is perfect. Well after shooting 10-15 arrows I measured it again and it was 6 and 7/8ths I couldn’t believe the string stretched that much during the breaking in process. That being said, was my draw length drastically reduced because my brace height was no where close to the recommended 7.5”?? Thank you so much man! I seriously appreciate you helping me!!
@@greeneyesfromohio4103 draw length is not affected by brace height. You’re still pulling the string back to the same anchor, whether it starts at 6 or 7.5” is irrelevant. Make sure you’re measuring to the back of the bow and not the front. If that’s not the issue it could be form, such as anchor point, collaps in bow arm or back tension, or stance. An open stance will cause you to lose draw length as opposed to closed
@@Traditionalbowhunter - To clarify when you say measure to the back of the bow…..when I draw I’m measuring from the valley of the knock to the front of the bow where the arrow stops at my full draw. And when I say front of the bow I mean the front that’s facing the target. Is this correct?
@@greeneyesfromohio4103 correct
@@Traditionalbowhunter - I guess I left out the most important details to all of this my bad lol…..I’m brand new into archery just bought my first ever bow. It’s a Bear Grizzly 45# @ 28” this is the bow I was trying to determine my draw length on. Apparently that was a mistake as it’s pretty heavy for a newbie. I can draw it and shoot it but as you see I can’t come to full draw and I’m a little shaky. This is in my mind the exact reason my draw length is so short, would you agree? So just last night I bought a Sanlida Eagle X9 35# @ 28” to practice with and build good form. This should be a good draw weight to learn and build form correct? I have to imagine decreasing my draw weight by 10# will be a huge difference and much easier to draw but I don’t know never tried???
Man. Awesome story, amazing video, great production and song choices, and most of all so cool you did it as primitive as you could. What a hunt. What a beautiful bear. Kudos to you, my friend.
What is the purpose of the bow being wavy like that? Seriously asking.
@@greeneyesfromohio4103 I doesn’t benefit anything, it’s just neat to be able to make a bow out of a really curvy piece of wood. It’s kind of a badge of honor among bowyers to be able to build bows out of difficult pieces of wood. They still shoot great and have a neat appearance
I know men that have been around a lot longer than you that will never know the sense of accomplishment that you have at this time. Congratulations sir.
Awesome those look amazing
Timber Rattler? Those are works of art.
@@johnloughry7686 yes Timbers, thank you!
Very cool
Those are 🔥🔥🔥
Those little emerald ash borers are bastards. I use Osage Orange for other things besides bows, but a Kutzall disk works fantastic; they cost around $55 each but you can get super aggressive and fine and get about a 20-40 grit finish if you follow up with the fine. Dust mask and goggles are a must. The RZ m2 is fantastic for a dust mask and about $12 on Amazon. Oh, and I got the original Kutzall style with the little spines, not the more even machine made
Seeking this out. Are they shootable?

Congratulations. Might need some pointers on some arrow builds for my hand made bow.
I’m glad you have this channel. I’ve been following you at raven claw and seen articles in you and your harvests. I’m Just a trad now guy as of now but just cut my own stave and have learned some cool things about primitive through your podcast, ravenclaw, and now this. Thanks!
Them Those Mexican Cross Country Skis?😂😂😂
Hell of an awesome job!! Not sure if you sell these, if you did how much do they run?
That arrows a tad stiff. Awesome video. Nothing better then watching an arrow in flight!!
Not stiff, just a crosswind. You can see it’s flying perfectly for 10 yards or so then goes nock right mid flight due to wind. A stiff arrow will come out nock right and have trouble stabilizing
@@Traditionalbowhunter i see it now...your right! Great video.
Nice!
Congratulations!! Good to see a fellow Native hunt with a traditional bow successfully in this native state.
