  • Nobody had a career like Arn Anderson. For more than three decades he has been the epitome of “old school.” Hear him as you’ve never heard him before every Tuesday at 6am Eastern as you gives you a peak behind the curtain for the first time ever. Each week Conrad Thompson will examine Arn’s days in the territories, becoming an Anderson, creating the Four Horsemen in the NWA, becoming a Hall of Famer, and being a producer behind the scenes for years for WWE proving “The Enforcer” has a story unlike anyone else. Known for his trademark Spinebuster and incredible “promos” in front of the camera, it’s his timing and wit that has kept “the boys” in stitches behind the scenes. Hear for yourself why ARN is the new “symbol of excellence” in professional wrestling podcasting exclusively on Westwood One Podcast Network, Tuesdays at 6am Eastern.

    It's hard to believe how tone deaf the Crocketts, then Herd, and McMahaon was regarding Arn and Tully. They, along with the other Horsemen, were main reasons that I tuned into wrestling. When they left for the WWF, it was a MAJOR blow to WCW - whether they knew it or not. Same later on with the Midnight Express.
    GCW/WCW was CRAZY over and popular. Any financial problems the company ever had was due to mismanagement before and up to the Crocketts. They had a product that was loved by wrestling fans.

      Heels luke Arn Anderson are the real heros and inevitably the good guys. As much as the fans "hated" them, they are the mist loyal workers in the company, doing what they were asked by the bookers, swallowed their pride and egos to put a baby face over. Out of the ring, mist of them are the nicest and most humble folks in the world. Ole and Arn have always been my favorites because of their skilled technical wrestling abilities.

  • @PhillyBagel

    Anderson never would’ve questioned losing to Williams. He knew the nigh-invincible booking he had from Bill Watts in the UWF and it was being carried over into JCP. The problem was that Anderson realized that he and Tully were being taken for granted. You’d think that by complying with the booker they’d be seen as highly valued, reliable workers. That should earn the promoter’s respect. But Arn didn’t get that respect until he started saying no which included working for the WWF. I’m proud of him for standing up for himself.

    Everything going on at that time was about the promotion punishing Tully Blanchard for saying dumb things to the Turner Broadcasting people. Arn got caught up in the punishments just because he was working so close with Tully. I would think it was Jim Crockett who made the decision on the match, not Dusty. Steve Williams wasn't getting a push at the time. Their intention was to eventually put him in the Varsity Club with all the other heels they didn't know what to do with.

      It's because he lost in 4 minutes. He even said he never said no, and he couldn't beat Steve Williams with a dump trump backing over him, a blow torch, and a baseball bat; that wasn't it. They were just trying to make him seem like he was nothing. Yeah, I know same with Renegade, but losing in 4 minutes makes you almost enhancement status, and they did it for no reason. With Renegade it was a reason, as dumb as it was, they thought they could make him a star; he was their Ultimate Warrior. Stupid but it is different.

    It's funny to me how Jim and David Crockett and Dusty Rhodes didn't see the immense value Arn and Tully brought to JCP/WCW on a daily basis. Tully and Arn were part of the backbone of that wrestling promotion for almost 5 years, and to treat them like shit, and not take care of them financially ahead of the other talent is beyond me. To disrespect the Horsemen like that and ask them to do "a job" for Steve Williams is ridiculous and pointless. The Horsemen were not just great wrestlers, they were great promoters, they gave great promos, they had great matches, they lived the lifestyle 24/7, and they bled and sweat the business. The Crockett's didn't know how to expand their brand nationally and spend wisely, and Dusty as booker was a glory hound who had to win, while burying the other guys like Tully and Arn at the end. That is why JCP had to sell to Turner, because they got their priorities out of whack, instead of keeping it simple.

    • @StarCityAudits
      @StarCityAudits 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Tully had issues that were starting to surface.

    • @Jim-Tuner
      @Jim-Tuner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They saw the value. But there were other considerations. Its not exactly a secret that Tully had a serious cocaine problem at the time. Its also not a secret anymore that he (Tully) shot his mouth off in a meeting with the Turner Broadcasting people and caused problems for the Crocketts in trying to sell WCW to Turner. Arn himself didn't do anything wrong, but Arn was part of the package with Tully and suffered the consequences.
      The Crocketts focus at the time they (Arn & Tully) were treated badly was making the sale to TBS. I think Jim Crockett actually wanted Tully in particular to leave at that time and did everything he possibly could to encourage him to leave.

      It is hard to come up with an all time list. Maybe it might be better to break them up by decades as this is more of a best of 1980's though some of these teams obviously found success later on. And, I say that with all due respect. I think your list, which is impressive, these teams all benefited from the popularity explosion of wrestling in the 1980's and the advent of the Pay Per View.
      I go back before the 80's and remember Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens. The Outlaws (Rhodes and Murdoch). Flair and Valentine in the late 70's. The Minnesota Wrecking Crew, Ole and Gene Anderson. The Funks. Dick the Bruiser and the Crusher. Another team that found great success in the 1980's was Rick Steamboat and Jay Youngblood. They were super over in the early part of the decade in the Mid-Atlantic area. Go back to the 1960's and you have Harley Race and Larry Henning, three time AWA World Champs. I am sure I am leaving out some other great teams as well from previous decades.
