    Brilliant. Jasmine Choi is always brilliant. I was struck by the difference when she adjusted her headjoint in a rather longish pause.... The conductor and the whole ensemble, fabulous.

    8:57 I see what you did there! You took the most famous flute solo from the original violin version and gave it to the violin for the flute version!

    This is lovely! I have heard this so many times on violin and it works so well for the flute. So your transcription and your stunning performance has done it Justice. I'm inspired to pick up my flute again. I used to be a professional flute player years ago in an orchestra as well as a soloist. Thanks for the inspiration. I would love to learn this piece at some point. Though I have to say the end section terrifies me.

    This is a brilliant and stunning performance!! WHY is the audience still SEATED at the end?? Honestly, can we no longer show our appreciation for the tireless dedication of not only Ms Choi but also the talented ensemble?? What is wrong with unappreciative audiences today giving lukewarm responses to breathtaking performances??!! If I had witnessed this energetic and delightful performance I would have leapt to my feet and hollered brava!!! That disciplined and dedicated people still exist in this lackadaisical century who create these brilliant moments with music for us is a miracle. Please, when you are gifted a moment such as this, SHOW your appreciation.

      I saw a similar reaction to Maxim Vengerov performing the Sibelius violin concerto with the Chicago Symphony. It was a super-human performance and the audience was like, ho-hum, I guess I'll clap.

    Great job, Jasmine! I'd somehow never heard your version of it before, until it came up as a suggested video on my TH-cam video. I've also just recorded a video of it. It's such a wonderful piece - It made me want to play the violin, but fortunately, the flute can play it too! Thanks so much for sharing your lovely rendition with us. And I love your dress! - The colour really suits you.
    The flute world is small, so no doubt we'll run into one another at some point! Take it easy.

      It's not plated, it's solid 14K gold. Handmade flute manufacturers do not plate any of their instruments. At least not the handmade ones. Haynes has these crappy Amadeus flutes that are made in China. One of my students had one and the plating wore off of the keys in less than a year Since it had a one-year warranty, they just sent her a whole new flute.

      I actually bought this piece about a year before I discovered Your Lie in April and I was trying to learn it... unfortunately my flute needs a complete repad before I can play anything with even a hint of an upper register so I put the piece and the flute away until I can get it repadded. Then I found YLIA and that got me back into taking piano lessons after a 25 year break and my piano teacher found a video of this for piano solo and now I’m learning it on piano!!! (BIG chords vs small hands...!!!)

    this is wonderful, and much nicer than Dennis B. Much smoother and more difficult too. Miss Jasmine belts out the low B and C with volume and full tone, and works up into the stratosphere nearly an octave above Dennis B. also with pure tone. Take advantage of her free offer to download the score on her website, follow along with this performance , and marvel greatly...it is quite a learning experience...... Also, playing by memory is also quite an achievment, too......

    • @sassierover
      @sassierover 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      neal kujac playing something that’s more difficult does not always translate to “better” flute playing or a better performance...I have great respect for JC and all her hard work, but would rather play like and listen to DB all day long. It just comes down to a difference in style. There are no real deficiencies in either of their playing.

    I can't believe there are three "dislikes" ---- who plays this better than she, and for you "dislikes"? Apparently you don't play the flute and don't respect her rapid articulation, tone and sonority. So, tell me, who plays it better than she?

    • @lsmart
      @lsmart 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is that it is probably people who believe that this does not compare to the violin version, and that she should never have transcribed it. I happened to enjoy this as a change of pace, and in recognition of its difficulty, but I would still take any good violin version over the very best flute version. There simply are way too many difficult notes that must get passed over with the flute, the tempo is obviously slower too, and the tone of the violin is richer and more expressive. Having said that, it is an amazing performance by Ms. Choi.

  • @jimmillen4660
    @jimmillen4660 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Overtone, I agree. But I stand on what I say. She's as good as Galway. I found another flutist who made my hair stand on end with his incredible pyrotechnic display of virtuosity ---- 128th tongued notes as though they were quarter notes. He's french and I can't remember his name but I'll find it. And by the way, Doriot Anthony Dwyer, IMO, is the best flutist of all time. (I'm sure you know who she is).

    It's overdone to transcribe this piece for all different instruments!
    Sure, it's a challenge to play and it was very well done!
    But i don't know why they do it!
    I don't expect it has been transposed to the piano, in mostly single notes!

    this piece was so enchanting that it sounded like a fantasy piece where fairies and elves came out and flowers blooming, i thought it this piece was written for flute . Then i hear the original violin piece, it was so sad yet very romantic, feels like a completely different piece longing for someone..
    how did this piece sounded so differently by changing the solo instrument. A true master piece for flute and Violin.

      Yes, you're right.
      The flute playing as lead by Lady Jasmine made the composition more spritely and uplifting. It is as you surmised that a lead cello instrument for which this composition originally was written, the expression is sad and at times dark and haunting.
      I didn't find it like that in this video at all.
      Bravo to the conductor and his entire orchestra here.

    This is the best Saint-Saens' Rondo Capriccioso I have ever heard!
    It's just incredible... so fascinating.

      This composition may well belong to a violinist --- but Jasmine's interpretation and performance is as good as it gets.

      As far as Isaac Stern? I think historians will agree that Itzhak Perlman is the greatest violinist of our times. "second fiddle" only to Paganini.

    You're entitled to your opinion. Except you're comparing apples to oranges. Jasmine brings a different voice to Saint-Saen's composition. One can't marvel at well she (did) it. Unless you're a flutist, you can't believe how difficult this composition is to play. Saint-Saens would be proud of Jasmine's performance. As an aside --- you don't get to appointed principal flutist of a world-class orchestra, unless you belong there. Kudos to Ms Choi.
