In this video I have this Mercedes a class w169 which has a faulty tcm and shows a message on the drivers dash saying transmission visit work shop and the car will go into limp mode to save itself from any further damage. fault codes may be 0714 0722 0657 c121 0793 0896
So I will be draining the transmission fluid and removing the valve body which comes out with the tcm so I can send it for repair, and then refit the repaired tcm.
The transmission fitted is Mercedes CVT 722.8

So nice of you, hope you subscribed.
Thank you I am trying fixing my
@@antonypereira3853 I hope you do. All the best.
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
Why do you count oil? What if it wasn't enough before?. Use dipstick and problem gone. I have used 5l of oil in the same gearbox
the only reason there would not be enough oil, is if the transmission was leaking, otherwise there is no reason for it not to have enough. so if there was a leak then i could not use this method. Any way thank you for sharing your views.
Legendd!! I’m doing it at home with my mechanic friend. (We’re both not experienced) but you explaining each and every bit is really helpful. I just posted it to the company that does the programming today. Will come back to this video once I get it back.
One more thing, can I ask how many days did you have to wait for the unit to come back after fixing? Also, the febi kit takes like a month to ship to Australia. Ofcourse I will get new transmission oil but can I use the same strainer pad kind of thing at @38:01 ?
Thanks boss! 🫡
Hi it took about 2 weeks to get the unit back. The strainer can be re-used, just give it a good clean and carefully blow it with an air compressor if you have. The strainer is basically a filter. Good luck with the replacement.
I took all of the bolts, and the valve body comes down, but it’s stuck with something, I can’t find any information online about it
How many bolts did you remove, there is one that I always miss ? Also are you able to feel that is moving? And did you unplug the electrical connection that’s on the side top area as shown in the video.
Did this job yesterday, well halfway, now to box and send TCU off, I didn’t disconnect the battery, but I have a good diagnostic scanner, you said make sure the battery is disconnected, before reconnecting the gearbox plug. Why is this? If it generates codes you can just clear them no? Just wondering as I’ve done it all without disconnecting battery now. Thanks for any advice 🙏
Hi, main reason for disconnecting the battery, is to avoid any shorts happening during reconnecting of electrical plugs, which could damage the ecu or tcu again, it is very unlikely this would happen but it’s just a precaution, as it could happen. Also avoiding any airbags going off, as often ecus are all linked to airbags in the car, again just taking precautions, avoiding any further issues.
Hi, thanks a lot for this great tutorial. After putting everything back inside the gear, filling oil and starting the engine, my wheels are not rotating whatever the gear position. I double checked the small metallic U connector on the cvt part, it was properly linked to the gearbox. Any suggestion ?
Is the electrical plug connector properly in, may be check that, as that would be the only link between the tcu and ecu. Otherwise you may want to read fault codes and maybe contact the company who repaired your tcu.
@@DaringBeefcake I found out the reason of my issue. I forgot to do the part where you run the engine at 2000RPM that would basically "launch" the oil pump. So now everything works like a charm. Thank you !
Glad to hear that, well done on finding the issue @@TheStomm
I have 2008 B150. I have changed tcu 4 times but in a couple of days they all gave the same issue. I fed up with this car and mercedes company as they don’t give us any help ( like at least sell us brand new whole transmission). I think they quited producing this transmissions because of chronic issues. If they sold this car all over the world, they should have either call them back or rebuild a new transmission (which SHOULDN’T be fucking cvt again of course. Old torque converter transmission are best in my opinion) for these models.
Yes they are not very strong.
Wonderful Job Sir my w169 2007 model has been showing the same sign lately it comes on and off at times i thought it needed an oil and filter change i took it to the workshop the fault was not picked up, is it possible that i just do the oil change and filter without removing the TCM first
I don’t think an oil and filter change will solve the issue. It’s a common fault and the TCM needs to be repaired because there is some electrical connection inside of it that tends to brake. May be you should wait until is more obvious so you know if the TCM is at fault.
That plug is a terrible job to get off on the top of the gearbox....you wont be able to drop the valve block if u dont remove it....Bob....Paignton.....
Yes it’s a pain, specially if you’re doing it on the ground.
Apakah pernah mengalami y3/9B2 temperature transmission
No I haven’t ..
Thanks for the detailed video. Very helpful.
I am also doing the same process(my mechanic is doing it), and while removing the TCM, we noticed that there is loose part inside the gearbox. I don't know the name of it but I can explain: at time 23:45 the metallic part on the right top side of the picture, which has 6 bolt holes in it. That is a bit loose, even though the screws are tight enough. What is its purpose, and is it normal to be loose?
Many thanks
Are you referring to the bit am pointing at during the minute and second. Because that bit slides back and forth is connected to the gear stick. Otherwise am not sure what other bit might be there that is loose. I don’t quite remember anything else 😂.
@@DaringBeefcake
Thanks for the replay, I am not referring to the one that connects to the gear stick. If you pause the video at time 23:45, you could see a metallic part with 6 screws on it, and a couple of other holes for oil flow possibly. Its on the right of the picture.
@@makululaj86 yes. The one that has a chain on. I noticed it is loose on my transmission as well. Did you get it sorted?
@@makululaj86 oh I see, well I don’t recall having paid any attention to that part so I can’t really says how is it supposed to be sorry.
@@DaringBeefcake Thanks, it should be fine as it is I guess. On that note, how did you post the TCM to the company for fixing it? DHL returned mine because it was "oily" according to them, and it needed to be professionally cleaned and have a certificate to prove it. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
I nerd help. I have change my TCU and now i got this fault
the gear ratio in the continuously variable automatic transmission cvt is not permissible.
And
transmission control fault is stored in component y3/9n1
What can i do?
Did you send the old tcu to be repaired and fitted the repaired TCU. ?
I buy one from aliekspress
New one
I have fill 5liter gear oil
How much oil do i need? I fill 5liters
How can i reach you for repair?
Am sorry I don’t do external repairs.
Ground clearance on these vehicles is bad
It’s not very good.
