I absolutely hate the sequels, but I don’t understand why everyone hates the “Somehow, Palpatine returned” line, because, you know, Poe had no idea of knowing how he returned! What would you expect him to say in that situation?

"Somehow Palpatine returned" is, in my opinion at least, one of the poorest ways to explain how the First Order rose up from the Empire's ashes and managed to, with access to like 4 solar systems, make the most massive fleet in Star Wars history in 30 years. Plus Rey is an absolute Mary Sue, defeating Kylo Ren in a lightsaber duel after picking a lightsaber up for the first time. It just makes no sense how this random desert lady that, although is force sensitive, has no experience with lightsabers, manages to survive an encounter with a guy who's been taught for years with both Jedi and Sith tactics. They even ruined Luke Skywalker, who considered Darth Vader to be worthy of redemption even after brutally murdering millions. But in the sequels, Luke tries to kill his own nephew because he could "sense the dark side in him"; what the heck happened to Luke believing there's no such thing as "too late" to return to the light side? And don't even get me started on the lightsaber combat, which switched from an elegant, fast-paced style of fighting reserved for masters to a glorified baseball bat duel between an angsty wannabe sith lord and Mary Sue Rey (who is shown to channel anger into her strikes, which is supposed to be a no-no for the Jedi). With that being said, I like the sequels for their artistic design (First Order ships, uniforms, music, effects, etc.) but like most others I hate the plot.
"Somehow Palpatine returned" is the worst line in a blockbuster billion dollar movie and possibly in cinema history, especially considering the mess made by the ham-fisted writing. I am still stunned that someone signed off on it and it made it into the end product, despite so many veteran actors and writers knowing full well just how appalling the line and what it represented, really was.

The funny thing is that, if executed well and well written, Rey could have been a GREAT character. Daisy does a great job with her acting, but it's the screenplay and plot that underperform.

Back in the 90s there was a silly energizer battery commercial where Darth Vader fights a pink bunny rabbit and James earl jones lends his voice to the ad. …and the terrifying Rage that comes out of the loud Nooooo he gives at the end of that commercial is 100x better than the one in ROTS.

HEAVY disagree on the RotS pick. Anakin (or Vader at this point depending on who you ask) is so heartbroken, words are failing him as his emotions are so intense he’s literally destroying the room he’s in with the force out of rage. It didn’t take me out of the scene at all and really served to show his absolute regret at his choices and actions. If I had to pick a replacement it would probably go to the scene of Padmé doing her hair on the balcony. The dialogue is normal George Lucas bad and the scene really feels like filler compared to the other scenes that Anakin and Padmé share in the film.
The Millienium Falcon is sentient. Remember in Empire Strikes Back when C3-P0 was having a conversation with ship? He was saying that her dialect is really peculiar.
Episode 7 was good though, and I actually found Episode 8 to at least be passable aside from Rose saving Finn and dooming everyone else. Episode 9 is an absolute shitshow though

I agree. I’m not the biggest fan of the sequels, but I love a lot of the actors, especially daisy. I’m just not sure if a Rey series would redeem the character at all or just make things worse, though

The Sequels shouldn't even exist like this. First of all, how did the first order even form when the New Republic is around? Are they just oblivious to this new evil rising and don't do anything to stop it with the forces they had already? Second, why should their be a rebellion (the resistance) When their allies are literally the government that was made of other Rebels? Third, How were they making Starkiller base during the empires and somehow manage to just remember it's existence in the Sequels?

What is wrong with Anakin's breakdown scene? Padme understood him better than anybody, she saw him as a boy with his mom, and she saw he regrets of his actions that he did in affect. Also, the raiders tried to kill him during the pod races, they killed many people regularly, chopped leg to husband who tried to save her, they are actual terrorists.

The Falcon being ‘sentient’ makes sense. The whole point of uploading L3 was basically to reference 3PO’s line in ESB where he says that the Falcon’s computer has a peculiar dialect. In Star Wars, we know that droids/computers can develop sentience/personalities if left unchecked or have gone without memory wipes for a long while. I don’t really see how a similar thing couldn’t be the case with ship computers, especially when it actually was in some old EU books. I believe it’s mentioned in one of the original Thrawn books that because R2 spent so much time connected to Luke’s X-Wing and it’s computer, that R2’s personality had basically started rubbing off on the X-Wing’s computer because it hadn’t been wiped in awhile. Also, the data being needed for the Kessel Run still also makes sense and I don’t think it takes away from Han’s skill. That sequence still shows how extraordinarily skilled he is and the data basically only makes sure that the crew doesn’t die instantly in the maelstrom. Not even Han does things that recklessly, like jumping into Hyperspace without the proper calculations. Like Han said in A New Hope, it’s not like dusting crops.

Literally the film was just like a dream you’d have in ur sleep. Most random thing ever. Previous stormtroopers riding on horses. Palpatine returning. The glaze of rey. The entire first 20 minutes. It all seemed so weird
I’m aware. At best it’s a weak plot device that’s barely explained by Disney, and it’s uncreative for making a good movie. In legends novels it’s all good fun, but this is different.
Oh, we knew that. The problem is just that the material it was originally revealed in was decanonized, and we were given a significantly worse version of it. Just like we were given a much worse version of Grandmaster Luke Skywalker, a worse version of Jaina Solo in Rey, and a much worse version of Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus in Ben Solo/Kylo Ren. The sequels are just shitty retreads of the OT with shitty ripoffs of Legends characters as the main protagonist and antagonist, that also decided to take a giant shit on everything about Grandmaster Luke and the Palpatine clone stuff as well.
The Darth Vader scene in revenge of the sith can’t be the worst simply because that’s the moment Vader is born, yeah I guess I can see it being kinda weird with anakin all busted up and then the first thing Vader does is mourn, but on a timeline standpoint and a character development standpoint, I feel like it’s important
I’ll say it because everybody’s too afraid to admit it and nobody wants to be cancelled: The Star Wars franchise has, slowly, become an experiment to further “woke” agendas and EVERY Star Wars fan is incredibly depressed because of it. Instead of establishing great, new characters by creating for them passionate story-arcs, us audience members are treated like dumb mice; as we are expected, by modern Star Wars writers, to enjoy boring and new characters based off of how old and iconic characters positively interact with them; all while trampling over important legacies. For example: Leia (iconic, old character) walking past Chewie in order to hug Rey (boring, new character). This single act betrays the morality of Leia’s relationship with her husband, her friends…her family. Solely as a minor attempt to force us audience members to feel empathy for Rey, we are only filled with doubt for the actions of a loyal character. Palpatine being struck by his own force lightning by Rey’s singular arm…could the irony speak any louder? As if us audience members have not already been ridiculed enough; now, we must accept that the most powerful being in the universe, (because Palpatine, quite literally, resurrected from the dead after falling hundreds of thousands of feet into a pit of endless abyss, remained hidden for decades, constructed thousands of planet-destroying space crafts without any force-users ever batting an eye, and devised a plan for world domination)…now, us audience members must accept that this omnipotent being, capable of deceiving the galaxy, finally rose to power…just to be defeated by a jolt of lightening. With every second that passes by, as Disney remains the owners of the ‘Star Wars’ intellectual property, the Star Wars franchise is destroyed, from its core to its outermost shell.
Two of these entries were added in the 1997 special editions. I absolutely hate everything about these “improvements” on the original trilogy. I remember, even as a little kid, being absolutely cringed by that Jabba palace song in the theatre.
Empire Strikes Back takes place 3 years after A New Hope, so Leia’s feelings for Han are not that sudden. You make it sound like it’s the day after they met.
They definitely saved the ROTS scene with the idea that his translator changed a terrible scream into NOOOOOOOoooooooo The scenes from Episode 1 and 9 are definitely the worst. One is at least just cartoony and silly, the other just ruins 8 movies of story.

Star Wars was my first introduction to Oscar Isaac and after watching Moon Knight and ATSV, they wasted him. Poe could’ve been so good, and he just wasn’t. Although he is one of the best characters in the sequels purely because he’s played by Oscar Isaac.
In a new hope’s defence it was added later (as was music scene in rotj) han walks on his tail as it was originally filmed with a human actor and had to fix han walking behind him
Seeing Snoke was the worst moment in the sequel trilogy such a waste villain that could’ve been better than Darth Vader and Sidious and never got Luke vs Snoke
I kinda think the hoth kiss wasn't just about making Han jealous, it was because Luke was that close.. to freezing to death after being mauled by an ice monster, and she was overjoyed that he made it back. I don't really think the ROS one with Sidious is that bad, because it never sat right that a tyrannical sith who killed kids, enslaved civilisations, blew up planets.. could be redeemed just by throwing his master- someone slightly more evil, down a shaft! It was never even done for pure and selfless reasons in the end anyway! destroying the sith and fulfilling a prophecy? no fam, it was to save his son.. his blood, his legacy. That's all. So there's potentially less weight to the actions on the deathstar 2 and their significance, in bringing down the emperor in the first place, and symbolically that's why his death didn't last because he wasn't killed for the right reasons, sort of evil grows and he grows with it- yet him being put out of action for 4 decades is also nothing to sniff at.
The scenes from episodes 7 and 8 are awfully bad, in my opinion. The rest of the scenes you picked were mostly just cringe. In both scenes, they *somehow* ruin what could have been a good/great scene! Leia not noticing Chewie was horrible, and the Finn and Rose scene destroyed whatever awesome sacrifice Finn could have had.

Cause we KNOW how Palpatine returned, they say it in the scene. Also, it’s YOU who is undermining Vader’s sacrifice, not the movie. Anakin still comes back to the light, nothing changes that. Side note: if Finn ran into the laser then his death would have done nothing, Rose was right to save him.

Well everyone makes mistakes, no movie is perfect, ESPECIALLY star wars. For me it's clone wars during one time (I forgot the name and the episode) but this clone was laying down some very, VERY good strikes on REX and CODY...TWO HIGH RANKING OFFICERS! With more experience than him and it was VERY weird and out of place.
The Rise of Skywalker was so terrible because of what The Last Jedi did. The sequels alternated directors, so when TLJ's director screwed up everything beyond belief, TROS was doomed from the start.
Here’s an interesting question? Why not use Plagus, Jar Jar, or Maul instead of Palpatine. I know they already killed Maul in Rebels and I love Rebels but I’m pretty sure season 3 of rebels would have gone into production, the same time as rise of Skywalker and it would have made infinitely more sense to use him or even Jar jar at that point. As for Plagus they could have just given him the force transfer ability instead

Episode 7 was good though, and I actually found Episode 8 to at least be passable aside from Rose saving Finn and dooming everyone else. Episode 9 is an absolute shitshow though

The Sequels shouldn't even exist like this. First of all, how did the first order even form when the New Republic is around? Are they just oblivious to this new evil rising and don't do anything to stop it with the forces they had already?
Second, why should their be a rebellion (the resistance) When their allies are literally the government that was made of other Rebels?
Third, How were they making Starkiller base during the empires and somehow manage to just remember it's existence in the Sequels?

The fart was gold considering any scene "young Annie" was in. Strategically, the sillyness of Ep1 was a tactical masterpiece just to entice really young viewers who grew up on cartoons (who didn't?) and now ushering them into the SW universe.
I almost never think of myself as a series of labels but I think just to point out how unifying this video is I am a non-binary bisexual anarcho-communist University of Vermont Student and I agree with literally everything you said in this video. I was like, grinning with anticipation at the beginning of each review because you did not miss on a single one of them. Like, this video honestly gives me a bit of hope for the Star Wars fandom becoming less toxic because this seems to be a fairly traditionalist attitude towards Star Wars but I completely understand and respect all of it.
What is wrong with Anakin's breakdown scene? Padme understood him better than anybody, she saw him as a boy with his mom, and she saw he regrets of his actions that he did in affect. Also, the raiders tried to kill him during the pod races, they killed many people regularly, chopped leg to husband who tried to save her, they are actual terrorists.

I like to believe the “Somehow Palpatine Returned” line is the Actor being told Palpatine is in the movie and his reaction to that was the line we hear and the filmmakers were like “that’s staying in the movie”.

The Falcon being ‘sentient’ makes sense. The whole point of uploading L3 was basically to reference 3PO’s line in ESB where he says that the Falcon’s computer has a peculiar dialect. In Star Wars, we know that droids/computers can develop sentience/personalities if left unchecked or have gone without memory wipes for a long while. I don’t really see how a similar thing couldn’t be the case with ship computers, especially when it actually was in some old EU books. I believe it’s mentioned in one of the original Thrawn books that because R2 spent so much time connected to Luke’s X-Wing and it’s computer, that R2’s personality had basically started rubbing off on the X-Wing’s computer because it hadn’t been wiped in awhile.
Also, the data being needed for the Kessel Run still also makes sense and I don’t think it takes away from Han’s skill. That sequence still shows how extraordinarily skilled he is and the data basically only makes sure that the crew doesn’t die instantly in the maelstrom. Not even Han does things that recklessly, like jumping into Hyperspace without the proper calculations. Like Han said in A New Hope, it’s not like dusting crops.

Literally the film was just like a dream you’d have in ur sleep. Most random thing ever. Previous stormtroopers riding on horses. Palpatine returning. The glaze of rey. The entire first 20 minutes. It all seemed so weird

I’m aware. At best it’s a weak plot device that’s barely explained by Disney, and it’s uncreative for making a good movie. In legends novels it’s all good fun, but this is different.
Oh, we knew that. The problem is just that the material it was originally revealed in was decanonized, and we were given a significantly worse version of it. Just like we were given a much worse version of Grandmaster Luke Skywalker, a worse version of Jaina Solo in Rey, and a much worse version of Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus in Ben Solo/Kylo Ren. The sequels are just shitty retreads of the OT with shitty ripoffs of Legends characters as the main protagonist and antagonist, that also decided to take a giant shit on everything about Grandmaster Luke and the Palpatine clone stuff as well.
The Darth Vader scene in revenge of the sith can’t be the worst simply because that’s the moment Vader is born, yeah I guess I can see it being kinda weird with anakin all busted up and then the first thing Vader does is mourn, but on a timeline standpoint and a character development standpoint, I feel like it’s important

The Star Wars franchise has, slowly, become an experiment to further “woke” agendas and EVERY Star Wars fan is incredibly depressed because of it.
Instead of establishing great, new characters by creating for them passionate story-arcs, us audience members are treated like dumb mice; as we are expected, by modern Star Wars writers, to enjoy boring and new characters based off of how old and iconic characters positively interact with them; all while trampling over important legacies.
For example: Leia (iconic, old character) walking past Chewie in order to hug Rey (boring, new character). This single act betrays the morality of Leia’s relationship with her husband, her friends…her family. Solely as a minor attempt to force us audience members to feel empathy for Rey, we are only filled with doubt for the actions of a loyal character. Palpatine being struck by his own force lightning by Rey’s singular arm…could the irony speak any louder? As if us audience members have not already been ridiculed enough; now, we must accept that the most powerful being in the universe, (because Palpatine, quite literally, resurrected from the dead after falling hundreds of thousands of feet into a pit of endless abyss, remained hidden for decades, constructed thousands of planet-destroying space crafts without any force-users ever batting an eye, and devised a plan for world domination)…now, us audience members must accept that this omnipotent being, capable of deceiving the galaxy, finally rose to power…just to be defeated by a jolt of lightening.
With every second that passes by, as Disney remains the owners of the ‘Star Wars’ intellectual property, the Star Wars franchise is destroyed, from its core to its outermost shell.
Two of these entries were added in the 1997 special editions. I absolutely hate everything about these “improvements” on the original trilogy. I remember, even as a little kid, being absolutely cringed by that Jabba palace song in the theatre.
Empire Strikes Back takes place 3 years after A New Hope, so Leia’s feelings for Han are not that sudden. You make it sound like it’s the day after they met.
They definitely saved the ROTS scene with the idea that his translator changed a terrible scream into NOOOOOOOoooooooo

Star Wars was my first introduction to Oscar Isaac and after watching Moon Knight and ATSV, they wasted him. Poe could’ve been so good, and he just wasn’t. Although he is one of the best characters in the sequels purely because he’s played by Oscar Isaac.
In a new hope’s defence it was added later (as was music scene in rotj) han walks on his tail as it was originally filmed with a human actor and had to fix han walking behind him
Seeing Snoke was the worst moment in the sequel trilogy such a waste villain that could’ve been better than Darth Vader and Sidious and never got Luke vs Snoke
I kinda think the hoth kiss wasn't just about making Han jealous, it was because Luke was that close.. to freezing to death after being mauled by an ice monster, and she was overjoyed that he made it back.
I don't really think the ROS one with Sidious is that bad, because it never sat right that a tyrannical sith who killed kids, enslaved civilisations, blew up planets.. could be redeemed just by throwing his master- someone slightly more evil, down a shaft! It was never even done for pure and selfless reasons in the end anyway! destroying the sith and fulfilling a prophecy? no fam, it was to save his son.. his blood, his legacy. That's all.
So there's potentially less weight to the actions on the deathstar 2 and their significance, in bringing down the emperor in the first place, and symbolically that's why his death didn't last because he wasn't killed for the right reasons, sort of evil grows and he grows with it- yet him being put out of action for 4 decades is also nothing to sniff at.
Yeah, still blows my mind to this day that Chewy and Leia just walk right past eachother. What dumbass writer thought that made ANY sense?

The scenes from episodes 7 and 8 are awfully bad, in my opinion. The rest of the scenes you picked were mostly just cringe. In both scenes, they *somehow* ruin what could have been a good/great scene! Leia not noticing Chewie was horrible, and the Finn and Rose scene destroyed whatever awesome sacrifice Finn could have had.

I agree with MOST of these except the last one, I don’t LOVE TROS. It’s mid at best, but only focusing on Poe’s one line and not the full conversation makes me feel like you’re trying to mislead the viewers in order to appease the sequel haters. Cause we KNOW how Palpatine returned, they say it in the scene. Also, it’s YOU who is undermining Vader’s sacrifice, not the movie. Anakin still comes back to the light, nothing changes that.
Side note: if Finn ran into the laser then his death would have done nothing, Rose was right to save him.

Well everyone makes mistakes, no movie is perfect, ESPECIALLY star wars.
For me it's clone wars during one time (I forgot the name and the episode) but this clone was laying down some very, VERY good strikes on REX and CODY...TWO HIGH RANKING OFFICERS! With more experience than him and it was VERY weird and out of place.
I remember that one. Slick was his name. He completely outmaneuvered a lot of people.

The Rise of Skywalker was so terrible because of what The Last Jedi did. The sequels alternated directors, so when TLJ's director screwed up everything beyond belief, TROS was doomed from the start.
Here’s an interesting question? Why not use Plagus, Jar Jar, or Maul instead of Palpatine.
I know they already killed Maul in Rebels and I love Rebels but I’m pretty sure season 3 of rebels would have gone into production, the same time as rise of Skywalker and it would have made infinitely more sense to use him or even Jar jar at that point.
As for Plagus they could have just given him the force transfer ability instead
