    Several years ago I walked up that same track to the little church. It was closed, so I am pleased to see what it looked like inside. The thing I remember most about the walk up was seeing so many bunches of mistletoe in the trees along the way.

    $65 US/night is a bit pricey for Turkey for a budget hotel, but I guess it's a very touristic area, for example I was just in Warsaw yesterday, my hotel cost $55/night for a very nice hotel in central Warsaw. Currently in Krakow and paying $60ish. The larger debate is whether Turkey is becoming expensive. I did a couple months long jaunt of Turkey in 2010, haven't visited since, back then I remember Turkey being very inexpensive. I stayed near the Blue Mosque in a nice place for $25 US... I guess those days are long gone!

      It's a brand new hotel that's really nice and great location, breakfast included, fast wifi. So I'd say it's a pretty good deal. But Turkey isn't as cheap as I thought it might be. The lira has devalued, but there has also been inflation so it seems about the same as when I was here before.

    • @CheapAquaman
      @CheapAquaman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GabrielTravelerVideos 65 is very high, in turkey it's more worth it renting an airbnb for a month or two, your rent will be about the same as 2-3 weeks in a hotel. I travel a lot in turkey so know it well, hotels rarelly allow negotiation but airbnbs allow a lot of room for negotation especially for a month rental. For food you should look at the franchises they are a lot cheaper than the random touristic restaurants. You can get a large breakfast with drink for around 4-5 euros....

    I made the mistake of not renting a car when I came to Cappadocia. It ended up being fine and I booked some tours, but ultimately wished I had a car to save time and freedom. Ended up wasting a lot of time walking and relying on taxis. Also, Dibek has great food. Recommended by a local as the best food in Göreme and it did not disappoint.

    Hi Gabriel, the caves are fascinating. It does seem that this area has some earthquake damage which would explain some of the damage you have shown in the video. The entranceways look like they have earthquake damage. The ceilings are another problem with oxidation, they're fading at some point, and they will disappear if not retouched. Less exposure to light and moisture in the air should maintain them for a while longer.

    "Cappadocia is an ancient land with a fascinating religious history. It is even mentioned in the Book of Acts in the Christian Bible. The earliest Christians were here almost 2000 years ago and by the 3rd and 4th centuries were using the caves for churches and monasteries." fasinating info on the web about this area

    The church with the caved in roof from the leebryan79 video is just past the road/entrance to the open air museum on the left side of the road may 200 feet or so off of the road. If you search the chimneys just past the open air museum on the left side of the road maybe 5 minutes of walking past the open air museum you should find it easily as it is one of the chimneys nearest to the road. If you have a car you should check the underground city at Mazikoy which is just 10k or so past Kaymakli with a car and is a totally different experience compared to the underground cities that have been made "tourist friendly" and give the caretaker/guide a tip if you can as he is a character and a good guide as well.

    St. Peter's letters were addressed to Christians living in Cappadocia (1 Peter 1:1). The Apostle Paul was from Tarsus in Cilicia, which is the adjacent region just south of Cappadocia. Paul is believed to have traveled widely though Cappadocia during his missionary journeys."

    I first heard of Goreme a few years ago when I bought a standard HD TV. The TV had screen savers, and all the changing screen views were spectacular, some were familiar and others were not. On my TV settings I did not have the location-label of these scenes turned on so I could keep the scenery pure and without clutter. Like I said I already knew the location of many like the one with a lot of hot-air balloons rising up from this desert floor. I KNEW this was a scene from the Albuquerque, New Mexico Balloon Festival held every October. That was easy, it had very blue skies, reddish/brownish sandy desert floor, buttes and mountain terrain in the background. I changed the settings to see the locations of what I was NOT already familiar with. When the locations were labeled, the balloons scene came up and I was greatly surprised when the scene was not describing Albuquerque, it said "Goreme, Turkey." 😁Oops!

    It's a proper tourist trap. The tour operators run a cartel and fix the prices for all the tours so you can't haggle as they know there's nothing you can do. Food prices are very high due to these factors as they people know they have to make as much money as they can off tourists during tourist season and that's it and there's no real local people living there (the few turkish people living there obviously get the local prices). Unless you are prepared to open your wallet very widely, you will have a miserable time. Funny Gabriel didn't go and ask at tour operators for prices of tours/hot air balloons to give us the real scoop on this place.
