In Saudi Arabia life starts in night because of day heat, and you must go to Al-Balad area in corniche jeddah , both in new balad for modern sights and old balad for traditional jeddah. You can talk to young people boys and girls they are very welcoming.
Where in the US, you are expected to bring back your Rental Car with a full tank of Gas, in Saudi, it is the Opposite. You get the vehicle with little to no gas, and you can return it the same way. This is why they've built more Gas stations near the King Fahad Airport in Dammam, because people were running out of gas, before they could get to the gas station, after leaving the Airport.

I worked in Saudi Arabia (Buraydah) from August to November in 1986 putting up Center Pivots. It was hot but surprisingly bearable. I attribute it to the low humidity.
@11:40 this terrain reminds me of the transition of deserts between AZ and CA specifically climbing the grade of the 8 FWY into the hills of eastern San Diego county from the desert below

I've only travelled to 30+ countries, but a non-obnoxious American tourist is the exception, rather than the rule. Just my experience, just anecdotal, but some people are best avoided. Really not a fan of the man-child archetype of pretentious, patronising and rowdy American tourists. Canadians on the other hand, they're cool!

Hey Gabriel, what a wonderful video. There for a while I thought I was back home in the Imperial Valley in Southern California. That clime up that mountain was almost exactly like going from El Centro to San Diego on I-5. Where you stopped at the top and showed the cell towers, thats exactly what they have done in Southern California. I have been to Saudi Arabia before but only to catch another plane and never got out of the airport. I must make an effort to go and spend a few days. Those "Monkeys" you saw were Baboons and they have adapted to the harsh climate but I think they stay mainly in the mountain area.

Great constant commentary that is much needed for the full effect other than being there in person, your choice of music is great.. ..the music breaks you add along with partial intros intermission and outros are on point! Also I wanted to mention in my previous comment how clean and well kept everywhere is and the road system is amazing you don’t see freeways that wide and clean anywhere in the states although I will say it seemed like everywhere you went was on wadi wadg road lol

I have spent many nights alone in mountains of saudi /tabuk region, sleeping in car & tent, its totally safe & very serene with fantastic mornings

Peter Santenello made a great series about Saudi Arabia. I remember one video in the Faifa Mountains that was quite unlike what you would expect in Saudi.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Yes, we have 2 octane grades: 91 and 95. And 1 liter of 91 octane was 0.45 Saudi Riyals ($0.12 Cents US) and 1 liter of 95 octane was placed at 0.60 Saudi ($0.16 cents US). It’s about 500% increase. The contrast between just 7 years ago and today is too great. Hope you can have a local next time you that can help you get around easier and steer you to the cool spots.
I read that Saudi Arabia has about 50 different species of snakes - a good percentage of which are poisonous. As you were walking through the rocky areas and other trails, kept wondering if there would be an encounter. I remember the last snake you caught on film in the Greek islands.
Was thinking the exact same. Do world travelers like Gabriel study before arriving the chance of being attacked by really dangerous species when visiting a certain area / country, even the only troublesome ones? Saudi deserts would be wildly different from England in that respect at least.
Went to Taif from Makkah on a day trip. I hope you had some time to see Madinah but yes I'll say welcome to the UK - lots to see and do there outside of London
I thought you rented a Toyota Corolla. Just wanna let you know, when I was in Miami last summer, I rented the cheapest newest Corolla (newest model even the base model comes standard with dynamic cruise control that is almost autonomous). And it literally drives almost autonomously in cruise mode. You can drive that car without holding on the steering wheel and do videos and stuff. It steers the wheels on its own. I was driving from Miami to Tampa with ease for 4 hours with that Corolla.
Very interesting. I enjoyed seeing all your Saudi videos, not somewhere that I've been drawn to, but can see the appeal. Strange how everyone must just either stay inside or be in their cars! It didn't seem like there were many cafes or restaurants etc. I imagine you're in the UK now, I hope you've got a good road trip planned, I live in Bath, that's a beautiful city to visit. There are so many places out there. The mistake the vloggers do going out early morning and noon time plus he missed a lot of places worth visiting out of little research and planning .
@@Piscoandmartinis in gulf countries including Saudi Arabia general rule they avoid the sun and heat .They go out during the day but to close cold places malls , cinemas , restaurants ...ect But majority prefer going out after 4 PM and young people stay awake until early dawn during the weekend . Also early morning and afternoon is school , university and work time so that's why nobody is walking around. There are many options and places to visit, you just need to invest some time searching before travelling .

I think it'd be better if you contacted a local or someone who lived there / jeddah to help show you around, Taif is known mostly for the 'Taif flowers' , and around april a flower festival is held where flowers, flower water, and perfumes made with it are sold + Al Rudaf park + taif's fruits that are sold in the fruit market you passed As for Jeddah in the old jeddah / jeddah Alblad .. there are historical hijazi houses you can visit like - Ba'ashen house (now converted into a gallery) - Nasif house - Al Saloom House Also I strongly recommend visiting the Southern Area of Saudi Arabia (Abha, Al bahah, Jazan ..etc)
I live in the UK Gabe and you'll be lucky to get quarter of a tank for the price you paid in Saudi 😆 hope you do make a few videos here, I'd be interested to see them, especially if you get off the beaten path a little
Driving in Saudi is not for the faint of Heart. You must keep your head on a swivel at ALL times. If you don't have a Lead Foot, then Stay out of the Left Lane, or else you will be greeted with non stop flashes of the Hi-Beam and Tailgating. Every Lane is a TURN LANE. . . .yes !!! Being "cut-off " is the Norm. If you do have a Lead Foot, watch out for the Cameras. You barely see them, but they see you. When you see a bright flash of light, you've been caught.

This reminds me of TX or AZ, or even my home state of FL, where its just so dang hot that one would find very little life beyond the 'car culture' of traveling from one air conditioned space to another. Only at night do the people go outside to mill around.
Two things about this cideo : 1-I was doing with your Indian videos what you did here,the car-spotting thing,where you count the countries in which the cars are made. Or rather,where they were "born". I made the conclusion that Japan is the absolute winner. So many Japanese firms on the streets,not only in Saudi Arabia,but in India too. I hade made a comment in your Indian videos about the Suzukis,which apparently are everywhere,I mean,everywhere. 2- Man,you were walking and walking and walking on this endless and unbelievably narrow pavement,towards the end of your video,with the cars passing really fast like only a few centimetres from you and I got some stress there !

16:43 this is actually because the Saudi government coordinate with different countries about their pilgrims numbers. For example, I think Indonesia has the highest number of pilgrims so they require a higher amount of accommodations. So, it is a matter of organizing and managing the huge influx of crowds and at the end they all go to the same places.
while you are driving there were a speed cameras check the speed, seat belt, ticket for using phone while driving costs about 500SR each ticket, based on the video i saw that you easily passed 6-7 of them, roughly you got now about 5000-7000SR i hope you did not get them lol

I think it'd be better if you contacted a local or someone who lived there / jeddah to help show you around, Taif is known mostly for the 'Taif flowers' , and around april a flower festival is held where flowers, flower water, and perfumes made with it are sold + Al Rudaf park + taif's fruits that are sold in the fruit market you passed
As for Jeddah in the old jeddah / jeddah Alblad .. there are historical hijazi houses you can visit like
- Ba'ashen house (now converted into a gallery)
- Nasif house
- Al Saloom House
Also I strongly recommend visiting the Southern Area of Saudi Arabia (Abha, Al bahah, Jazan ..etc)
I live in the UK Gabe and you'll be lucky to get quarter of a tank for the price you paid in Saudi 😆 hope you do make a few videos here, I'd be interested to see them, especially if you get off the beaten path a little

Driving in Saudi is not for the faint of Heart. You must keep your head on a swivel at ALL times.
If you don't have a Lead Foot, then Stay out of the Left Lane, or else you will be greeted with non stop
flashes of the Hi-Beam and Tailgating. Every Lane is a TURN LANE. . . .yes !!! Being "cut-off " is the Norm.
If you do have a Lead Foot, watch out for the Cameras. You barely see them, but they see you. When you
see a bright flash of light, you've been caught.

This reminds me of TX or AZ, or even my home state of FL, where its just so dang hot that one would find very little life beyond the 'car culture' of traveling from one air conditioned space to another. Only at night do the people go outside to mill around.

Two things about this cideo : 1-I was doing with your Indian videos what you did here,the car-spotting thing,where you count the countries in which the cars are made. Or rather,where they were "born". I made the conclusion that Japan is the absolute winner. So many Japanese firms on the streets,not only in Saudi Arabia,but in India too. I hade made a comment in your Indian videos about the Suzukis,which apparently are everywhere,I mean,everywhere.
2- Man,you were walking and walking and walking on this endless and unbelievably narrow pavement,towards the end of your video,with the cars passing really fast like only a few centimetres from you and I got some stress there !

16:43 this is actually because the Saudi government coordinate with different countries about their pilgrims numbers. For example, I think Indonesia has the highest number of pilgrims so they require a higher amount of accommodations. So, it is a matter of organizing and managing the huge influx of crowds and at the end they all go to the same places.

while you are driving there were a speed cameras check the speed, seat belt, ticket for using phone while driving costs about 500SR each ticket, based on the video i saw that you easily passed 6-7 of them, roughly you got now about 5000-7000SR i hope you did not get them lol
