- Have been wanting to do a follow up video to my Ultimate Set up for Function Bands 2020 video as i've made some big changes.
See how I've used some Ubiquiti Networking gear and a Raspberry Pi4 to take my bands mixer rig to the next level!

That's so neat, thanks for the ideas.
コンパクトにまとまってて美しい❤こんな使い方したら熱ですぐやられるよ!
空気の流れがないとCPU溶ける🎉
Brilliant.
Lovely setup! Probably the most advanced networking I've seen used for this. But the clear drum set, too cheesey man.
very nice
The powered/active usb hub is a great idea. I found that out. Way better than using a fat 32 formatted usb flashdrive stick.
Cheers mate! I wanted to tell u how I accomplish what u do there, with much less hardware. What I use is an Apple AirPort Express wireless router. It functions a network router and airplay receiver in one . I connect my mixer via Ethernet to AirPort Express and then 1/8 output to mixer. So I can control my mixer with my iPad and use the same iPad to AirPlay music to the board (songs have to saved just like u mentioned with my method as well). I have never had wireless drop outs or anything like, then again I don’t walk as far as u did in the video for FOH. It takes the spot of ur router, ur access point and the AirPlay/RPi that u have. Just an idea and some food for thought. Only thing is, they don’t make them so I scooped up a couple on eBay as back ups. I own a rental company and my small rigs use this method.
I am really struggling to set up the Edgerouter and Unify AP to my Soundcraft UI 16. I will pay you to make a video explaining this or even jump on a call to walk me through it. I would love the help. Thanks for showing your setup!
I'm surprised the ends still fit on there, nice job!
Excellent setup and explanation Sam. If possible, I want to ask you how you manage to monitor (PFL) when you operate remotely with a tablet, how do you connect your headphones to monitor sound at the sound check and during the show? Thank you so much
Hi Sam, maybe you can help me with my question.
My band uses a UI24r as well and as far as I understand, it has built in compression, a learning function for cancelling feedback etc.
Now we do also have a rack compressor/enhancer/limiter/de-esser unit and wonder if it makes sense to add it to the rack or wouldn’t it make any difference at all because the Soundcraft already has those features.
Thanks and nice video!
What is the rack mount for the IEM transmitters? Also, it looks like you have some kind of extension box for the IEM transmitter antennas too.
Thanks for this. Been looking for recommendations for USB hub as had recording issue using USB stick in REC port. Would you recommend the atolla USB hub, been reliable for you?

Lastly, is the PoE injector active or passive?
Could you accomplish the same streaming from Spotify to the mixer using an AppleTV instead of the Raspberry Pi? Haven’t used a Pi before but that streaming functionality would be really great. Wonder if you could play songs from Moises that same way to practice via some homemade backing tracks. Sweet setup, man!
I have a couple of questions.
First off I’m a drummer as well and I also have the ui16 and I’m looking to upgrade to the ui24. What is the raspberry PI? And what size rack case do you have?
Love the idea on the AirPlay for Spotify. Would love to know how you set that up on a Pi?
Me too!
Hey Sam, another great vid. How are you getting on with this mixer? Have you had any audio drops? I just got one of these for a second time after been so spooked about it the first time around I sent it back. I think the Ui series has the best gui there is. And like you said, absolutely perfect for function bands, like you guys and ourselves.
Hi Pat, Thanks for watching! I've been using these UI series mixers since 2018 at well over 100 gigs and have not had any audio dropouts whatsoever.
Was it literally just the audio that dropped out, or did the entire unit freeze up and become unresponsive?
No, fortunately I've never had it either, but I havent used it very much yet to be fair. I seen it talked about in the fb group, and it completely freaked me out. They are a fantastic machine. Your setup is great.
Can somebody explain how to connect the powered usb hub with a USB drive for recording? Plug in the stick to a hub outlet and then a USB to USB cable to ui24r? Or run USB cable from hub to one port of ui24r and then that provides extra
Power to the other three ui24r ports, thus allowing me to plug stick direct into ui24r?
Dear Sam, Thank you for uploading this video. Me and my band are also thinking about purchasing the Soundcraft. I was wondering how you work at a performance that uses a front of house. Do you also use the Soundcraft for your own in-ear monitoring? And if so, how do you split all the signals between front of house and the monitors? Kind regards, Sander
the mixer has 2 master outs and 8 aux outputs.
so you effectively have 10 output mixes.
you can see in the video he has the 2 IEMs hooked up to AUX out 2 and 5
How do you play music from your ipad to the mixer without any cables? Please explain further.. thanks!
Sends via Apple air play from iPad to the RiP and that’s hooked up to his mixer.
Hi great setup. What is is the rack unit you have installed your gear into?
It’s a 6U Shallow Rack from Thomann. Link I. Description!
What road case is that?
Why is your Mix L and Mix R knob slightly different? Im totally new to this mixing Topic but I would have suggested, that you want to keep the Level of Left and Right identical. Sorry if it's a stupid question.
@@FreeedCT good spot! It probably got knocked and I hadn’t noticed.
How reliable are these units? How reliable are they compared to the xr32?
Would love to know that as well. I have used the X32 rack, console and also the Midas 32r. Also working on useing the Mix station app. Never had issues.
Just happened upon this vid having upgraded to UI24. Been using the ui12 and ui16 for number of years. Using a good external router that's set up properly (loads of TH-cam vids) is the secret. Built in wifi on the ui12 is rubbish, on ui16 not too bad , but wouldn't trust it. Now with the ui24 the added functionality is leaps ahead of the ui16 - but using the external router still. As with the 2 previous models, no drop-outs using the external router, and the software interface is solid and easy to navigate. As others have said - use powered USB port for recording on the ui24.
