When I was 5 months pregnant my OB performed an ultrasound then afterward handed me a paper written on his prescription pad for me to take to a doctor specializing in more sophisticated ultrasounds. He told me to make an appointment without telling me what he’d written. When I got outside I opened the folded paper upon which was written: “Check for cranial-facial abnormalities.” Numb with shock I drove to my husband’s workplace. He read it and calmly assured me that whatever the outcome God was going to be with us.
I went through the next ultrasound fully expecting this doctor to tell me there was absolutely nothing wrong with my baby. Nope. He said we needed to make an appointment with the Genetics Institute in Pasadena for more evaluations.
Amazingly, as I was waiting for this next appointment I was becoming supernaturally calm and falling in love with my baby. I had no sense that if there was something wrong with my child that God was going to make everything “right.” What I so strongly felt was that whatever the state of my child, God was going to help us love and care for him. And every day brought more love and care into my heart for my baby.
We went to the Genetics Institute. They performed yet another ultrasound. Once again, we were told there was something wrong. His limbs were out of proportion to the rest of his body. Although this was unwelcome news, my husband and I were ok. We were committed to our child however he turned out.
The doctors and nurses left the room saying they would return shortly. When they returned they started setting up some equipment. We asked what they were doing. Without asking us first if we agreed to it, they said they were going to perform an amniocentesis. Shocked at this my husband asked if there was any risk to the baby and what was the reason for the procedure? They flatly stated, as if this was the most logical and reasonable thing to do, that with the results of this test we could decide whether to abort our child. I was speechless. My amazing husband said without any wavering, “There is no result that would ever move us to abort our child.”
They looked surprised, but they had another trick up their sleeve. They implored us to go to UCLA for yet another ultrasound. I can only assume that they were trying to scare us and wear us down. But we agreed. They said UCLA was prepared to take us right in with no waiting.
At UCLA we received the same news after another ultrasound. “We won’t know what’s wrong with your baby unless you consent to an amniocentesis. But he surely has some kind of syndrome.”
Once again we declined. I can only think that we continued to agree to all these ultrasounds for the beautiful testimony it would later yield.
We returned home and I was confined to complete bed rest for the remaining 4 months of the pregnancy. Friends helped us while my husband worked, to help us care for our firstborn 3 year old son who had been born 2 months prematurely and I had almost died of preeclampsia.
A week before my son was due to be born, a sonogram revealed that he was under stress and labor needed to be induced. My husband left my side to pick up his mother flying in from out of state. My Obstetrician took that moment , when I was alone, to tell me gravely, that he, “had grave doubts about the genetic viability of my child.” It didn’t even faze me. I felt such love and peace about my child, knowing that healthy or unhealthy, God was going to help us care for him. I made some assuring remark and proceeded to get to work birthing my baby.
As soon as my beautiful baby was born they needed to rush him into the NICU. I reached out to stop them saying, please let me see his face! It was perfect. My doctor was practically doing a dance. My son was perfect. He was just very small. At full term he only weighed 4 pounds. The condition was called Maternal Insufficiency and these days doctors know that mothers who have had a premature birth caused by maternal high blood pressure can have complications with subsequent pregnancies.
What if my husband and I had been scared into aborting our child? I think many couples might have taken that route. The idea seemed to be, we don’t want or need imperfect children in this world.
Well, the world would have been a less populated place if my son hadn’t been born. As a Law Enforcement Officer he has saved many lives. He was awarded a medal for going into a home with an active shooter where a man had shot his wife and she lay on the floor bleeding out. His swift medical actions which he was trained to give saved the woman’s life. Later he was off duty at the Mandalay Bay Casino concert when the killer, Steven Paddock, committed the deadliest mass shooting in US History. He immediately went into professional mode and helped rescue the wounded and evacuate the venue while the shooter continued his rampage. For months after, my son suffered from PTSD.
We cannot play God. He has a calling upon every human whether perfectly or imperfectly formed. Ask Nick Vujicic.

I'm in Germany and abortion is technically always illegal but "not punished" in the first trimester after a compulsory consultation with a social worker, or if the mother's psychological or physical wellbeing is severely threatened or after rape. The psychological indication is used in the majority of cases where baby is predicted to be disabled.
In 2012 a woman was pregnant with twins and one of them was disabled. She did not want to have that twin, but didn't want to endanger her wanted twin. So a gynecologist for "difficult cases" was consulted and planned to "abort" that twin at 34 weeks and then deliver the healthy twin. But the mother started labor before that, so she did a c-section on the mother, pulled out the healthy twin, then killed the disabled baby with a toxic injection and then pulled it out. She documented it as a stillbirth. The present assistant staff were so traumatized by this and could not forget about it that they anonymously tipped off the police years later.
How someone who vowed to help and heal humans can have such a stone cold heart is incredible to me. She and her boss only got a year and a few months probation for manslaughter. The justices said it is not allowed to sort out unwanted children. So even with more restrictive laws than in many parts of the USA, this isn't considered murder...

    • @teijaflink2226

I was shocked to hear too that it's the woman's body and choice was completely ignored here, they always talk about that when it comes to abortion and the father is never allowed to force abortion but here the fathers where allowed to force abortion just because she was a surrogate. Imo surrogacy should be illegal because it's buying the body of a woman (many likely in vulnerable situations to do something like this to their own health) but it makes me absolutely sick that she a surrogate doesn't have the same rights for her own body like other pregnant women, I can't imagine the effects on a surrogats mental health to be forced abortion. If surrogacy is allowed there needs to be better rights for the surrogate mother and baby, at least have the same rights as any other women and the last word about the baby until adoption, like rights to chance her mind, to either keep or chose abortion against the will of the people who buy a baby as it's her body and health, not theirs.

Not only is this a disgrace on behalf of those men bit also a disgrace on behalf of the medical and legal system surrounding surrogacy in the US. The fact a baby was allowed to die unnecessarily because of legalities is completely nuts. In the UK, the baby belongs to the woman who births it and she then gives up her rights. This would have saved this baby.

From what I understand she wanted to deliver early so that she could have life saving treatment for herself. She wanted the baby to be given life saving care after birth but at that point the doctors have to listen to the men who paid for the baby. From what I understand she had an induced labor. She certainly didn't have a typical abortion at that stage because usually a late term abortion includes killing the baby via a needle in the babies heart and then a dissection and suction of the baby. Understandably she doesn't want to discuss it in detail but it sounds like she had an induced labor with a live birth but at that stage she lost all rights to the child.

And I'm even more shocked that it wasn't even an abortion and that it was late stage and they just let a baby die, how isn't it murder? Late stage abortion should be illegal too (except to save the life of the mother). I'm so shocked and sad that they would murder a baby, I would have loved to care for the baby. I don't understand how these men could be so cruel, so many people want a baby, why didn't they let someone else have the baby if they dont want a disabled baby? They can easily do this again. I really hope these 2 monsters got hate for murdering a baby and I would wish at least that they're not allowed to use a surrogate again.
I have a guestion so in US if you have a baby and it is born early or has a disability you are allowed to let the baby die or not feed it and starve to death (if they dont die by themselves) without it being considered murder, manslaughter or at least child abuse? And what day or week does a baby get same human rights like everyone else? Because clearly a newborn doesn't have human rights if the men where allowed to let him just die, just unbelievably shocking, so dark and cruel.

@@teijaflink2226 Abortion is never necessary to save the life of the mother. It's always been the case that when a pregnancy is threatening the mom's life, they let the baby mature as long as possible then either induce labor or take it by c-section, then rush to give it everything it needs to survive.
What the Dobbs decision did was give each state the authority to decide what they would do with abortion laws. In CA, it's "legal" to kill your baby up to a MONTH after birth. I agree, extremely sickening, shocking, dark and cruel. 😭😡

Could this child have survived? Perhaps, but the chances are higher that the poor babe wouldn’t have. Let’s be realistic. At that stage they are so tiny they fit could fit in the palm of your hand. They seem translucent and look like beautifully, tiny, little pixies or cherubs. Almost like a small fragile doll one might break just by touching it.

What babies really need is the mom that carried them. Only in certain limited circumstances should they be separated. Doing this voluntarily for profit as an industry (both surrogacy and adoption) is human trafficking.

I'm sure I am going to offend a number of people, but I am trying to speak the truth in love. Surrogacy is a bad practice all the way around. All you have to do is look at Sarah and Hagar to see why surrogacy is bad. This woman invited a whole bunch of demonic stuff against herself and her family by participating. I'm sad the baby died. I am sad she was put into this nightmare, but she largely put herself into this nightmare and her family.
Two men or two women not being able to have children is not infertility problems. It is a sin problem. God never intended two men or two women to marry, procreate, or cohabitate in a sexual relationship.
We do not get to decide our own sexual mores. God gets to determine that for humanity. We do not get to decide if our wombs are closed or not. That is God's ultimate decision. And I speak as a single, childless 51 year old woman so I know what I am talking about about the pain of not having children.

She was overweight and they kept emphasising how they were selecting their new egg donor from a catalogue of models in the us, that they had essentially upgraded and were paying a huge fee for the eggs and showing photos of her from the catalogue to the existing children talking about how thin and attractive she was, the implication being that their daughter didn’t meet their expectations. Like they had wanted an attractive doll to dress up. It made me feel physically sick to see the girl reacting to the emotionally abusive and very confusing situation. Or the thought of her needing to go to them when she gets her first period & their potential reaction. California is a horrible state, and I would have literally left the state and found one.

If we adopt it will be after doing thorough research on any agency we use, going through countries who respect the Hague Convention, & also through a great deal of prayer. It has to be God's plan, not ours! We don't plan to adopt a baby, rather we want to take in older siblings who have lost a parent, or who need help & love. Oh, and she’s still pro surrogacy 🤦‍♀️
The reason surrogacy is allowed to go unchecked in this country is because it’s the rich and more financially secure people who mostly benefit from this. Who will defend the lower income women trying to make a living? Women need to stand up to this, know their worth, and refuse to participate in this exploitative industry.

Note that the mother pointedly refuses to answer Allie's question as to whether this was a live birth, and never refers to the child as being alive at birth. This was apparently a stillbirth and no treatment was withheld. As a postpartum doula, I've taken care of many babies conceived through various forms of reproductive technology, but mostly IVF and embryo adoptions. And while all of these kids have been a blessing to their families, this exposure to all the conditions changed my mind about the industry. I became very concerned about what I was seeing even in these situations where there were two parent that were middle to upper class and fully functional families that had the interest and resources to hire postpartum support. The complication of having multiples, the health issues of the babies and the mental and physical health of the parents, the feeding challenges, the abusive conditions for egg donors and surrogates, the rapid cancers after hormones usage to harvest eggs and foster pregnancy, the financial and emotional drain on couples going through round after round, and all the wanton death of embryos and fetuses, etc, etc. Even in these "best of all cases" situations that I see and care for first hand, the negatives rare really disturbing and often times unethical.

I'm not aware if there are studies about the well-being of children born then given up by the the one that birthed them, but I would think there are issues the child would face of rejection. We think we are doing the right thing but if its not part of Gods natural order, it will always fail. This video is just one example.

they have known for over a century that the childs primary bond is with the mother and that when that bond is interrupted it leads to mental health issues or behavioural problems down the track.. it is why in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that the rights of the mother /child bond should be protected. As you say - they are comforted by her heart beat. Haivng said that it has now been decades of interrupting mother hood, (Intergenerational trauma and family separation and dysfunction with the breakdown of the family unit) many mothers no longer know how to be good mothers.. and we as a society should be supporting mothers to raise psychologically stable children in the absence of good male /father role models. Boys need to be supported to become good fathers but government is fixated on having men and women generate income while they take responsibility fo the children through the education and health system, and failing miserably and then blaming the parents while stopping parents from being good parents. When you scan your eyes on the increase in mental illness, violence, and substance abuse you can see the outcome of interrupting the bond .

No, having a baby cannot be a "job". It's simply wrong to sell the use of a female body and to sign a contract over a baby.
A couple of years ago there was a case here in Italy in which a couple bought a surrogate child and left the girl with a babysitter in Ucraine (surrogacy isn't legal in Italy) telling her they would soon come back to fetch her, but just abbandoned the child with that woman. Luckily the babysitter was more conscientious and loving than the "parents". She called the Italian embassy and the girl was then adopted by another family in Italy. That child could just have disappeared.

They all will stand before God and be judged. Doctors too.

The lesson learned is sin takes one further than they wanted to go. Why would she enable homosexuals to be fathers? It’s all a moral morass. In God’s tender mercies He took the baby’s life to eternal life and avoided a lot of legal battling that would have occurred if the precious soul had survived.

Back in the 80's and 90's I was a labor and delivery nurse. I attended a Perinatal conference in Dearborn, MI and one of the speakers was the lawyer for Mary Beth Whitehead, one of the first surrogate mothers in the US. She decided several days after delivering Baby M that she didn't want to give her up (the baby was conceived using her egg and the adoptive fathers sperm) and that started a legal battle which she lost. At the time it was big news and I realized we were heading the wrong direction in legalizing surrogacy. Too many tangled webs. Same thing with "sexed" embryo's. We are knocking on the door of Communist China and India in their preference for male children, aborting and terminating the pregnancy if it's a female. So sad what our society is becoming.

My husband (now ex) signed the papers for comfort cares, she would die by morning according to Dr's. She's now 26 y o and graduated college in june with a health services degree.

@@wendymtzc"Potential" is not equivalent to PREMEDITATED/INTENTIONS OF AND/OR ACTUAL ABUSE. You do not KNOW that child would have been abused by those men. Nor can or should you or ANYONE ELSE STATE that gay individual(s) or same sex couple(s) are INCAPABLE of being good parents and WILL UNDOUBTEDLY ABUSE A CHILD. That is like saying a man is incapable and could/should not be allowed to raise his child if the mother dies/divorce/ if mother isn't able/refuses to raise the baby.. that men cannot be good parents or have no place nor right to be FATHERS, CAREGIVERS to their children or to children who NEED A SAFE,STABLE, CARING, LOVING, NURTURING HOME WHERE THEY WILL BE PROTECTED, THRIVE AND ARE WANTED.
Same-sex couples are just as capable of providing a good, loving home and raising a child to be responsible, well-rounded, honest, productive adult as couples who are opposite sex. It is what is in their heart, soul and mind... Not what is between their legs or what they do in the privacy of their bedroom. The argument of what they do in their bedroom is INVALID. I will explain why... Parents who are opposite sex also engage in acts in the confines of their private bedroom...THEY DO NOT HAVE TO ENGAGE IN THOSE ACTS IN FRONT OF THEIR CHILDREN FOR IT TO BE KNOWN. Children are fully aware that mom and dad have sex. They ARE NOT SEXUALIZED BY THAT FACT. THEY ARE ALSO GROSSED OUT BY THE THOUGHT OF THEIR PARENTS DOING THAT... SO THEY CHOOSE NOT TO HYPERFOCUS ON IT... THEY DO THE SAME WHEN IT COMES TO SAME SEX PARENTS. The children being raised by them are no more sexualized than those with a mother and a father. The ONLY time a child becomes "sexualized" is when they are sexually abused by a PEDOPHILE, EXPOSED TO PORNOGRAPHY... NEITHER OF THOSE ARE EXCLUSIVE TO SAME OR OPPOSITE SEX COUPLES. Being homosexual is just that homosexual... Attraction to ONLY ADULT OF THE SAME SEX. A pedo is ONLY ATTRACTED TO CHILDREN. They are not one in the same.

People are so arrogant. They are basically using their sexuality to determine whether their children have a right to a father or mother. as the mother of twin girls, the thought of Shane Dawson and Ryland having twins, with no mother figure, makes me feel actually sick. Imagine explaining to your child that they have no mother because of your sexual preference?? Selfish to the core, and absolutely arrogant if they think they can do the job better than nature intended.

I have to wonder why a 51 year old man who lives in his parents' basement wants children in the first place all of a sudden so late in life. Via a method he can barely afford. Children, by the way, that he can apparently barely afford. Considering what the sister said about the way he treats the children in front of her (and probably their parents) he clearly isn't a good father. I wonder, though, if more is going on that he makes sure nobody sees. If nobody has contacted CPS yet, they should. Even without my speculation, just what the sister has seen is enough to warrant a call to CPS. These poor little children.
