Being familiar with both, I think the reason people focus on the Sonic perception is a combination of Sonichu looking more like 80% Sonic (or Super Sonic) with a Pikachu texture slapped on, plus fandoms for enormous broad-focus franchises like Pokémon with heavy presence in multiple media (games, anime, cards, etc.) in general get given more of a pass - since the more varied fans there are in general, the less any subset of them become "the face of the fandom". Same thing with the Mario fandom to a lesser extent - there's plenty of insane stuff there too, but there's so much else to drown it out so it never became known for the weirder things

Pokemon sizes are BS. Charizard is only 5'7, around the height of your average person, probably even shorter than the average person since it hunches over most of the time and its official height would be based on it standing up straight, but it's almost always drawn as large enough to comfortably carry an adult, sometimes more than one, on their back. So yeah I think making Reshiram huge isn't too out of the ordinary

Here's a story about Justin I found on Reddit: "So... Justin is in my class. I'm not going to say the name of the college or what city it is located in, but it's in Michigan. I signed up because community college is cheaper and I can get my gen eds out of the way. This is my second semester at this community college. I signed up for public speaking this semester because why the hell not, I have social anxiety so I figured this would help me somehow. I come into class and sit behind this dude that absolutely smells *terrible.* I sit behind him the next few classes because I had a good view of the board (I wear glasses), but it soon became too much and I moved across the room from him. I don't think much of it, they were decent examples of Legendary Pokemon. His pictures start to show up on the slide, and that's when we all saw it: him getting vored by Reshiram. Most of the class is oblivious to what it is along with the professor, be a few of the kids in my class looked at me with wide and knowing eyes. None of us could believe this was actually happening. He finished his speech saying something along the lines of "And next time your Reshiram tells you it's comfortable in her mouth, don't listen to her! She'll swallow you!" At this point I'm in absolute shock this happened. I tweet about it and only mention the shrinking fetish and Reshiram voring him. There’s something about people on the spectrum and fictional animals man. I had the same thought, like all the "weird girls" I knew in HS loved Warrior Cats or TMNT or something. I really do think it's that since they associate humanity with a lot of awkward, embarrassing grey areas of social interaction and stress, that cartoon animals a) help them escape and b) are easier to read the emotions of than people so it's comforting. Personally I was always good at getting along with animals but people took me a while to learn, so in that in-between time, yeah, I get it. However fetishes come out of that, well, nobody's figured that shit out yet, it's like you just roll a couple D100s on a table and see what you get, with the shittier your childhood was adding to the likelihood you end up in the UH OH zone.
I've noticed that a lot of autistic people vibe better with animals than with people. Perhaps we feel "not quite human" due to not fitting in, or perhaps animals make more sense to us because they don't have so many complex social rules.

Really, I have an attachment with non-human characters in general whether they take the form of an animal or not. I also struggle with fitting in and understanding complex social rules so this is a good explanation to why I’m attached to non-human characters.

I'm not going to say the name of the college or what city it is located in, but it's in Michigan. I signed up because community college is cheaper and I can get my gen eds out of the way. This is my second semester at this community college. I signed up for public speaking this semester because why the hell not, I have social anxiety so I figured this would help me somehow. I come into class and sit behind this dude that absolutely smells *terrible.* I sit behind him the next few classes because I had a good view of the board (I wear glasses), but it soon became too much and I moved across the room from him. This guy always is ALWAYS interrupting our professor while she's speaking. He constantly asks questions without raising his hand and just blurts them out. All he ever talks about is Pokemon. He won't talk about anything else. He mentions having a wife a few times. Me and the class just shrug him off as your typical game obsessed dude that just happens to really like Pokemon. Fast forward a couple of weeks and we're giving our speeches on "a topic we're an expert on". We always do vocal warm-ups to help loosen our lips and help get rid of anxiety. One of the tongue twisters our professor gave us was "pre-shrunk shirts". Pokemon dude blurts out "I know how to say shrunk because I have a shrinking fetish!" The class goes dead silent. Professor kind of ignores him and we go forward with the warm-ups. He eventually presents and his topic is none other than Pokemon. It seemed pretty normal at first. An explanation of what Legendaries are, the different types, and how to evolve Pokemon. Then he gets to a slide explaining the Legendaries more in-depth. At this point, the whole class knows Moltres is his favorite Pokemon because it's all he'd ever talk about. Moltres is on the slide as a surprise to no one. Lugia and Reshiram are also up there. I don't think much of it, they were decent examples of Legendary Pokemon. His pictures start to show up on the slide, and that's when we all saw it: him getting vored by Reshiram. Most of the class is oblivious to what it is along with the professor, be a few of the kids in my class looked at me with wide and knowing eyes. None of us could believe this was actually happening. He finished his speech saying something along the lines of "And next time your Reshiram tells you it's comfortable in her mouth, don't listen to her! She'll swallow you!" At this point I'm in absolute shock this happened. I tweet about it and only mention the shrinking fetish and Reshiram voring him. I made sure to not mention him by name because I'm not *that* much of an asshole. I get one reply jokingly saying "JustinRPG is back" and another asking if the guy's name is Justin. Following Pamperchu off and on through the years has been a wild time. Went from thinking he was an odd eccentric (to put it lightly), to feeling bad for him during the cancer and addiction, one thing not mentioned in the video being he's had seveal "daddies" who got him addicted to drugs, which is pretty rough, but when he self reported to being a pdf file and the Telegram chats, yeah that stuff was horrific.

one of my FAVORITE parts about magicmush's videos is that whenever he makes a video on someone, you don't realize who they are until Mush details what they've done and suddenly the puzzle pieces fall into place. somehow, he always covers things that are just obscure enough to be interesting, but enough of a meme to be remembered.
I'm an early childhood education major who has worked and still works with small children for years... I clicked on the video with my partner who is a pokemon fan, poking fun at the topic... I always love your videos, but this one just made me think even more about the role I have towards children and their emotional development... Pamperchu just broke my heart like... Jesus man... There’s something about people on the spectrum and fictional animals man. I’m no exception, I’m autistic and I love monster hunter, even though my hyperfixation tendencies have gotten more under control, it’s still something I unabashedly love and talk about a lot. But I’ve noticed stuff like MH, Pokémon, Sonic, and furryism in general have a lot of people on the spectrum as fans. I really wonder why, maybe some of us have an easier time connecting with non human characters as opposed to human characters or something for some reason? 🤔
I had the same thought, like all the "weird girls" I knew in HS loved Warrior Cats or TMNT or something. I really do think it's that since they associate humanity with a lot of awkward, embarrassing grey areas of social interaction and stress, that cartoon animals a) help them escape and b) are easier to read the emotions of than people so it's comforting. Personally I was always good at getting along with animals but people took me a while to learn, so in that in-between time, yeah, I get it.
However fetishes come out of that, well, nobody's figured that shit out yet, it's like you just roll a couple D100s on a table and see what you get, with the shittier your childhood was adding to the likelihood you end up in the UH OH zone.
I think it's mostly that Sonic / Pokemon characters are very colorful & simple that gets a lot of people hooked
I've noticed that a lot of autistic people vibe better with animals than with people. Perhaps we feel "not quite human" due to not fitting in, or perhaps animals make more sense to us because they don't have so many complex social rules.

Really, I have an attachment with non-human characters in general whether they take the form of an animal or not. Recently, I’ve really been attached to characters who are deities, reality warpers, or cosmic horrors or all of the above. I also struggle with fitting in and understanding complex social rules so this is a good explanation to why I’m attached to non-human characters.

Luckily I moved to anime guys, but still. Personally I prefer drawn characters, because they are cuter, more pleasing to see and easier to understand (actual humans sometimes looks weird imo)

As a major Pokémon fan I am both disappointed and not surprised that there are people in this community like this. What is surprising is that it didn't involve a more popular waifumon like Gardevoir, Delphox, or Lopunny.
