I remember bringing my dog into there in the seventies. Fun place. I don't remember food, though. Just big barrels full of saltines! Oh, and 35 cent Texas Pride beer on Tuesdays?
Fond memories from working there in early 90s. Don gave me my first real job. Worked at the Chicken and on his bud crew. Girls were in high school and they were then and I am sure now fierce like their dad.
Was TAMU class of 2002. Went in one Monday (surely I was a Junior or Senior of the age of majority by that time...) to drink a bit and my buddy pointed out a fellow female patron and said, 'She's smoking Marlboro Reds, she's beyond us'. Best memory (of many) I have of the place.
Sounds to me like they better put a bullet proof glass around Freddy, The guy said it himself, “if he goes on vacation you can tell by the burger”. You don’t want to train yourself out of a job but you also have to be sure to leave a legacy!
The daughter seems nice. Don was like 'Porky' Wallace in Aggieland though. I know of a few people that visited his office at the Chicken for unruly behavior or underage drinking. Worked for their sister store Chicken Oil Company in Bryan in the summer of '91. Won't go into details about my interaction with Don, but as far as I'm concerned, he was a terrible person and manager. Good food though, and other than him, I've got fond memories of working there. When at Northgate, we preferred Dudley's for our beer. Gotta love those Shiner chuggers.
Christ, I need more employees like Freddie. I’m surrounded by cry-baby millennials that I drink so I won’t throat punch them. Add this to my bucket list.
I made the mistake of calling Don Ganter “Mr. Ganter” once. He told me….”never call me that. I’m not as old as your daddy is” He was a tough boss who would give you the shirt off his back.
I don’t know about all these complainers and stories but when they first started serving food in the back, the burgers were better when Freddy made them. My friends and I would go up to him and say we wanted a Freddy burger. Don’t know why, but they were better. The girls have turned it into more of a restaurant than what Don and Donnie had. Kind of sad. I’ve been going to the Chicken since it opened. Beer on ice, pool tables in the back, dominoes up front. Cheese and crackers. Jalapeños. And my favorite, the hot links. Couldn’t walk through the place on most nights.
HEY People ! There was NO Ham Products in that 1/2 lb Ground BEEF Patty that Freddy makes those Burgers with ! They are just BURGERS or CHEESEBURGERS , NOT Hamburgers !!!!
It’s only thing in College Station that’s worth visiting, my first time was in 1986. I’m not to impressed with the “new chicken” though they should have kept it the same.
Great episode, cool bar and grill.... burgers look absolutely delicious!!! freddy seems like a really cool guy..... but... 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 .....I had to. #hookem
Heart attacks happen with or without ground beef, but hey, to each their own...so if tofu and bean sprouts are your thing more power to you. For me I'll have the burger medium rare please.
Bulletproof glass for the snake, love it! This channel is a gem
I'm sure shatterproof plexiglass would have been sufficient but bulletproof glass sounds far more safe
@@TruckTaxiMoveIt This is texas honey, it needs to be bulletproof ha
Was one of my favorite places to hang out when I lived in College Station....back in 1982
wow. must be weird seeing it on the internet like this huh
Went to the Chicken in 1994. It was unforgettable!

Best times I EVER had when going to A&M

Closed that place down a few times between 83-87 but never had a burger there, though. I always went for the chicken fried steak.
I don't think I ever had chicken fried steak but they certainly sounds good
Spent many late Friday afternoons at the Chicken back in grad school during the 70s!!
Grad school in the 70s
Wasn't many of you back then.

Real heart of DIXIE
Freddy went to am to be a petroleum engineer and switched his major to burger flipper? Right on

Don’t ever knock those little ideas to open up or start a business, they somehow turn into this one day 🤘🏽
Selling beer to Aggies? What a daring business venture that was.
Headed there from Georgetown, Texas for a freddy burger stat!
Great video!!

My father knew Freddy and Don when he was at A&M in '84
Can you get a double Freddy? That would be absolute burger heaven. Thanks Freddy!
Little late, but yes
God Bless Freddie, the owners, and their father!
Need to try the Tijuana Fries while you are there. Excellent!!
Definitely need to go there
It’s been a long time since I was at Dixie Chicken. Damned if you didn’t make me hungry.
Beef looks frozen. Gordon Ramsay would have a British fit
Going soon. TY!!
@ 1:27 back when you could dunk your ring in the Chicken.
We need one of your restaurant in Prescott valley
Haven’t had a burger from the Chicken since late ‘84.
I worked for Don Ganter on “The Bud Crew” in the mid 80s

Why do good things have to be over 1360 miles away......
David Piper an hour and a half away from me ... it’s worth it . The atmosphere is fun
2:34 look at the dust of the stuff hanging from the rafters. Where are the health inspectors?
@@LouCheezeYouSleaze some people like the dust. Dust matters.

Nice series of videos.
I love the Bryan/College Station area. I love the Aggies, but I love Bama more.
That burger looks good
He ate it upside down. That affects the flavor.
Dixie Normous I Aggie Ry
Freddy has job security.
The current owners know that all it takes is for him to open up his own burger joint and quarter of their business is gone.
3:47 Captain Spalding grew his hair out haahahah
Do they still have rattlesnakes ?
Yes
5 years later and they still do
Spent a lot of time here and in fitzwillies.

"The Northgate District" LOL
It's a college town. And I'm sure it did better about 7-8 year ago then it is now.

Nice vid, but you need a little xtra ketchup on the burger...are there any chicken at the Dixie chicken?
thetvzone. Yes

Pre-Made frozen patty....what’s next microwave corn dogs

WTF...??? No Ketchup in Texas or what...?
The hostess is hot.
They have a Longhorn sign in an Aggie hangout! Funny!
Are you talkin about the owner?
The owner ?
Wears his bear in hair net
I like my steak none season. No salt pepper just natural, why high blood pressure can't have any salt so I eat my food with out any salt.
Save your statue and your name.

Going to the Dixie Chicken and getting a cheeseburger, it's like going to Red lobster and getting a steak.
So freddy said fuck speaking English?
No pickels please
Hee haa
Using Dixie in the name is greatly offensive. I demand they give me a delicious Freddy 1/2 pound burger or I'll hold my breath and stomp my feet.

This show should be called the Texas toilet list. The restaurants of choice is atrocious.

That ain’t cheese, it’s fake cheese
HA! Every time you watch one one these videos here Goober you get "real cheese" from the host. Don't get much cheesier than him!!! lol

Olny burgers, burger in your Texas....poor people.

Your missing out dude. Great combination with mustard..mayo..and kerchup! Try it...might like. Lol
