Nice analysis. But as commented elsewhere in this thread - it would have been nice for the captions to be on screen a little longer. Amazing performance from the young Asgreen. It will be interesting to see what else he does this campaign.
I know what you mean but it is an editorial quirk of this style of video to have quick snappy captions, partly for humour and partly to maintain the fast paced nature of these highlights
The reason Langeveld was doing work on the Oude Kwaremont, was to get the sprinters back to the stronger classics riders. This would then reduce cooperation in the chasing group, making it easier for Bettiol to stay in the front.
Impressive to see a sprinter like Kristoff even manage to hold on to the leading large group, given this years short but very harsh climbs. Too bad no one wanted to relay in the end, although fully understandable given the sprint quality present.
snitch the snitch It’s true that he won in 2015, and he is definitely not as good a sprinter as say Gaviria, which is the go-to guy for UAE this season. But in races with the kind of distance tour of Flanders has, he is one of the best sprinters in the world. He is incredibly well trained, which helps him out when riders start to tire. His tdf wins came during the last stages of the tour too, when most pure sprinters had been eliminated by the mountains. And in this Flander’s final group, the only one to really stand up to him in a sprint was Sagan. This explains why no one seemed to want to reel Bettiol in, they would just end up loosing during the final km anyway. Still it’s impressive that Kristoff managed to hang in there, given the fact that he is much heavier than the average rider was during those final climbs.
At 0:25 & 1:54 Van der Poel goes on the sidewalk. You've missed one later on, which is difficult to see, at the switch of 9.8-9.7 km to go: a side curb is introduced on the pavement, and Mathieu's front wheel goes on the sidewalk, while his back wheel is caught behind the curb. In the back of the group you can see his bicycle sliding along sideways. There's footage from the camera behind, not shown in the live report, which shows a miraculous save that shows his excellent bike control.

Thanks Cosmo , watching the Eurosport 'highlights' nobody had a clue how the race was won
Great work Cosmo. Once again putting the official Eurosport highlights to shame. Keep up the good work.
awesome walkthrough of the race! also nice to see someone giving Asgreen the credit he deserves for that insane performance.
I will always like these videos before even watching them, guaranteed quality from Cosmo👌
watching eurosport highlights and watching cosmo's version are basically two different races :)
Good to see you back Cosmo! Watching a part of it with you commentating is better than a lot more of it without you!
Brilliant Summary. Can't get better from anyone else

Devolder is a legend!
Man of day was asgreen, worked all race for the team and even save quickstep face finishing 2nd.

very good point
hmm i'm not sure that dragging up sagan and christof is "strategy". Hindsight?
@@hexonatapeloop it can be because others are not that fast and will probably not chase for them
Doing that definitely helped, but I don’t think he was thinking that when it happened though
best coverage out there

I do wish Cosmo would do all of the highlights.

Awesome job
Making himself as inconvenient as his narrow shoulders would allow. 😂
Cosmo Catalano - best analysiser ever.
Had to wait to long for this!
Great as per usual CC 10/10
Editing's too quick - missed half of the captions :(
Wasn't Asgren a late replacement too. Or was that someone else?
yes.
Yee he was ^^ someone in Quickstep must be drunk.
Finaly first place for supersix...it has been a while
These are brilliant. Eagle eyes really picks things up you don’t spot on the live coverage
Should really put these out under the GCN banner now Euro Sport has bought into them, would increase the views massively.
Back here after Bettiol’s Giro win?
This is how the race was lost by Quickstep
how the race was won? simply no one chased him...
He simply was the strongest at the kwaremont
An American pronouncing dutch/flemish names is hilarious.
btw MvdP didn't know Bettiol was out in front when he attacked.
excuses.
