it's not surprising to see MvdP not be able to hang on the Kwaremont since it suits Pogacar so much more (long and steep, riders carry speed into the climb). What's surprising is how Wout wasn't able to hang. MvdP saw him suffering, attacked and promptly dropped Wout, after that it was just him and Pogacar. Something must be wrong with Wout, he doesn't normally get dropped so easily. Even if he's not at the top of his game and loses the wheel, usually he can gradually bring up the velocity and follow a few meters behind. Today, he just got dropped, no problem. @@S0ulinth3machin3 I do now realize that Pogacar knew if he was to have a real chance of winning, he had to get away on a climb, because the finish is pretty flat, and if MVDP or Wout or both were still with him, most likely he'd end up in 2nd or 3rd place again, as they are both better sprinters.

Pog is looking really strong, but the difference to MVDP is small. I hope this fitness carries all the way into TdF. Is Mads riding TdF? Could we see a Green Jersey battle? 5th is great finish for Powless. Well done all.
They are different riders. MVDP could never win the tour, and GT winners rarely do as good as Pogacar in monuments nowadays. So put more respect on Pogi's name.

Mathieu will never be a TdF winner regardless, but Wout or especially Thom. And then there is of course Remco Evenepoel. But that is the great thing of this era: there are no clear absolute bests. @@tonyg3091 True. A lot of fanboys here. The disease of this time. Wout could win next week, he can distance himself from Mathieu in Paris Roubaix. And Tadej on a less hilly terrain has much less chance against either Mathieu or Wout. So it depends. Just two weeks ago Mathieu went and extended his lead in spite of three worldclass timetrialists behind him. So who was stronger then? Right. And today Tadej was the spectacular winner, deservedly. And we have one Remco Evenepoel too. Not here, but let's see how Tadej or anyone else is going to keep him at bay.
Well....MvdP, Thom P and Wout van Aert excel in more cyclng disciplines than Tadej does. So the best cyclist these days is probably Mathieu or Thom since these two can dominate in no less than three very different disciplines. Tadej has it easy, just needs to focus on the road and preparing for montjs for this. Wout, Thom and Mathieu have a vaslty different and more difficult preparation and still win.
@@jaysimoes3705 Easy? Are you delusional? Wout and Mathieu are pure classics guys and they have more difficult preparation then Tadej? If its so easy tell me how many riders who won TdF also won more than two classics.. Bro there is a reason that there are only 2 guys that won Flanders and TdF in like 100 years... Now its three. Also its not that hard to come from cross to road. Its superhard if its opposite and you go from road to cross but If you started from cross its actually not that hard at all.
@@fangru7294 COmparetively he has it easier yes. Cyclocross is a good preparation, but you may have noticed that Pidcock did not go for the WC in February 5th because of preparations for the road season. There are several reasons for this, one is weight: for cyclocross (and Paris Roubaix) putting on extra weight is good. It is not good to lose it quickly etc. Tadej, like a teammember of him (Dutch) said last week has it indeed "easy". His words. He just picks up a list of possible races and that is how he goes into the season. having a 1,5 month or more headstart on guys that needed to peak from december to february. If you think it is not a whole lot tougher to have an extra season where you need to peak rather than to train in winter, I guess you have no idea what you are talking about. In NL and Flanders quite a few commentators ask for these guys to quit cyclocross to reach a better level.
That earlier chain slippage on MVP was the one thing that caused early ‘burnt matches’ and a possible mano-a-mano up the last climb, Pog would have still taken it but would have showcased a semblance of sprint at the finish.
I'd thought his one hope was to be in a situation where he attacked and MVDP and WVA marked each other for a bit too long and gave him the gap he needed. But no. He just ripped open the gap he needed anyway. OMG that crash though!! Bet the Bahrain guy wishes he'd crashed solo to the left rather than swerving back into the bunch. Ouch!
Agreed. The Bahrain guy is going to be very unpopular in the peloton for awhile. That was ultra dorky, it was something a beginner would do. You don't often see pros just barging into the bunch from the side. Actually, I'm not sure I've ever seen it. And he got disqualified, that's super rare. Dudes get disqualified in sprints, but not for accidentally causing crashes in random places far from the finish. That speaks to how messed up it was.
We need some explanation for this superhuman display i mean Tadet beating the already superhuman MVP, WVA and Tom Pidcock its madness. Does he have a vo2max of 99?
The whole Bahrain team should have been disqualified for the actions of the team member that "takes out half of the field". That was just the rankest of amateur move and was totally reckless.
This is a sorry excuse for a highlight reel of what was a great race. I understand that GCN is limited by rights agreements but this is rife with shoddy editing. How much would it cost to get rid of Carlton Kirby? I'll write the check!
It might be my American bias, but I feel like Powless isn't too far off that big win. He might not have the raw power of the main protagonists in the current era (Pogacar, MVDP, Van Aert, Evenepoel, etc.), that being said he still has pretty good power, but he knows how/where to place himself to be up there, which is honestly half the battle. I feel like he could do what Van Baarle does and jump a group by being clever. Hats off to Pocagar though. I firmly believe he'll win all five monuments before his career is over
Not showing the controversial and decisive moment when DSM jams and attacks in a narrow climb, unsportly for the least. From 140 to 180km the chase was hectic, favourites payed a hard tribute, MVDP, WVH Laporte and many others caught behind more than POGA, Bini and Moho fall is consecutive to that hard come back. If no Sanctions follow’s these goons might have a hard time in the next races, where are the DSM in the end race, one has to ask, is their DS taking credit for Pogacar win, those few extra watts he got over MVDP where saved or spilled on this crutial mid race perfidious play. As vocal as former champs where on Wout and Christophe share of the podium, I hope we hear more reaction to this arguable strategy…
Outrageous strategy could be said. MVDP’s sportmanship was not eroded by the event seeing how he saluts Pogi after crossing the line. Wonder how many DS must have been furious.

Tadej as far as I know lost last year from Jonas Vingegård. He did not win it. Tadej is a very talented guy and could become better than Hinault and MErckx, who knows, but he is far from having accomlished what they have.
Pog is getting better and better…. Cant wait for the Tour De France
Us too!
Well deserved win. POGA IS GOAT
When it comes to goats, there can only be one. Your claim is a very, very big call. He's great, yes no doubt. But you're drawing a very long bow with a very stiff string.
So, Colnago keeps being slow, wow what a win.
Pogacar in full mutant mode
What a fantastic race it was!

Please change the commentator, it's horrible - at 1:45 a key moment with Pogacar testing Van Aert and VDP on the Oude Kwaremont and this guy is still talking about the unrelated fall that happened way before
포가챠, 정말 멋지다. 이런 선수가 나왔다니...
What a race we got to witness today. Pure joy to follow. Any one knows how many feet of climbing the guys did today?
I think about 2500 but I am not sure
2,185 meters but it's on cobbles so it's tougher.
@sud sehun thank you. I totally agree 👍
200km+++...AVG speed 44km...what a mannn,,, respect all pro riders
POGACAR Is a Beast...truly of the all time greats
Congratulations, Pogicar! He did what it took to win this one. If MVDP had been there for a sprint, Pogicar would have lost. Intelligent racing.
He even told the press what he needed to do to win, then he went and did it!
super coverage on my phone. many thanks GCN
Thanks!
Pog well on his way to becoming the GOAT 🐐
the 2nd GOAT. I doubt anyone will ever equal Merckx, but there's no shame in being #2.
He already is the goat by being the best rider in the most competitive era and don't bring Eddie's accolades his era was mediocre at best
Before Merckx, he has to pass Hinault. Not a easy move
@@alexandreboyenval3140 I agree. People want to have a current GOAT in every sport, all the time. I can't see it happening in cycling. Even though Pogacar is a once in a generation talent, one also has to consider things like: Merckx won 1/3 of the races he started.
The commentary here is so sleepy GCN! This is a race for the ages and this reel makes it feel like a Sunday cruise. The women's race commentary is so much more exciting.
This is a very poor video. Bad commentating, terrible editing, totally confusing. Why do big cycling races continue to distribute through bush league outlets?
MVDP is absolutely hero of all classic race. Pogacar won by moment. All riders had exousted.
MVDP is glad with own results.

mvdp to win Roubiax in one week
@@Lion-wd1px Wout I think. Wout loses mostly against Mathieu in climbs, steep ones. No such thing in P-R. But both being excellent cyclcrossers means they both hae a chance. Adrie van der poel was clear: there is one favourite next week and it isn't his son and he is right.
@@jaysimoes3705 probably but MVDP looked way stronger, if he has that form and team, doesnt sleep Like yesterday at the start and there is no suprise like flats, mechanicals, injuries, sicknesses or suprise another team doing sth unusual he wins it (hopefully xD). But tbh I want Wout to also win a RVV in the future but only after MVDP has his third
Those two power men just totally dropped everyone. Well done.
Amazing race!
How is ANYONE gonna beat this machine at the Grand Tours this year!? His only (comparitive) 'weakness' is sprinting.
Not true. He’s a fine sprinter
But vingegaard is the better climber in 3d week
Pog is looking really strong, but the difference to MVDP is small. I hope this fitness carries all the way into TdF. Is Mads riding TdF? Could we see a Green Jersey battle? 5th is great finish for Powless. Well done all.
They are different riders. MVDP could never win the tour, and GT winners rarely do as good as Pogacar in monuments nowadays. So put more respect on Pogi's name.
I think mads wants to win some stages in the giro
@@mulondokalemera7531 I think Indurain had the ability to do it, but he never tried. So, that much more respect to Pogacar. Dude loves racing his bike.
@@mulondokalemera7531 Otoh Mathieu van der Poel is cyclocross World Champion 5 times alreayd, Mathieu van der Poel wins races in Mountain biking at the worldclass level and if he did not fall in the OS he was almost surely a top three there too. SO as a cyclist I put more money Mathieu, Wout and Thom than on tadej who can spend his time purely preparing for roadcycling. Mathieu will never be a TdF winner regardless, but Wout or especially Thom. And then there is of course Remco Evenepoel.
But that is the great thing of this era: there are no clear absolute bests. It depends on the race and the shape.
@@mulondokalemera7531 MVDP is a all around cyclist that can do all cyclo, mtb and road racing. while pog is just monsterous in the road but i dont think he can compete wva mvdp in the other world of cycling. but youre right respect for pog. but mvdp is also on another level of different cycling world may we could say he is a complete cyclist.
5 minute highlight package is a disgrace, especially when most of it is a course map.
Whoever runs GCN should fire everybody and start over.
What a movie 👌

Pogacar a man amongst boys
It's all about the flared handlebar.
Pog just crushed the life out of MVDP and WVA. The best. Can't wait for July and redemption.
Every single one of these three can crush the other two on his day. All of them are terrific. Add to them Remco and Roglic and what a time to be a cycling fan.
Does Pogacar seem too good to be true ? He’s in the mix for the win in every race he’s in - no one else does that.
Pogacar on track for 7 lombardia
Merckx 7 San remo
Awesome job by Pogacar! He did what he had to do to prevent a sprint finish, and that truly proves he's at the higher level, the rightful winner.
Pogačar - a beast!
Pog issolated MVP from his team then went on an onslaught. Jumbo Visma as a team looked weak today led by Wout van Aert
jumbo visma, ga vissen
Pogi is Alien 👽
That earlier chain slippage on MVP was the one thing that caused early ‘burnt matches’ and a possible mano-a-mano up the last climb, Pog would have still taken it but would have showcased a semblance of sprint at the finish.
Mano a Mano = hand to hand

Bravo Tadej!
Zmlel si jih kot poper
What a BEAST Pogacar is!
Just can't believe how those pros managed to have averaged 46kph for 6hrs. They are getting faster and faster. 👏👏👏

Pog is scary good
And Pogi said to MVP......"buh-bye".
bro what was fillip doing
Pas de mur de Gramont, dommage
the 'POG'
It might be my American bias, but I feel like Powless isn't too far off that big win. He might not have the raw power of the main protagonists in the current era (Pogacar, MVDP, Van Aert, Evenepoel, etc.), that being said he still has pretty good power, but he knows how/where to place himself to be up there, which is honestly half the battle. I feel like he could do what Van Baarle does and jump a group by being clever. Hats off to Pocagar though. I firmly believe he'll win all five monuments before his career is over
Suer pog
Sweet revenge for Poga.
These racers will kick a fully juiced Armstrong's butt
Not showing the controversial and decisive moment when DSM jams and attacks in a narrow climb, unsportly for the least.
From 140 to 180km the chase was hectic, favourites payed a hard tribute, MVDP, WVH Laporte and many others caught behind more than POGA,
Bini and Moho fall is consecutive to that hard come back.
Unfortunate crash for all the riders who went down, this crash could have been avoided.
