    Some highly skilled sound technician, please do whatever possible to make this recording listenable! There has to be a way to accomplish this.

    One secret to Crumb's success, in addition to his tremendous work ethic, is his sheer intelligence. He solved so many problems in his Book of Genesis, for example, that it's mind boggling - problems of text, character, perspective, clothing, buildings, backgrounds, story selection. It would present an insurmountable barrier to a lesser intellect, I bet. in a way, all drawing is problem solving - what lines can portray this emotion, action, scene, etc. If you've ever drawn yourself, you know how tough it is.

      Yes, also persistency, love of drawing and not doing it for the fame. Sometimes when you focus on the fame, you miss all the other essentials.

      jpcancela Yes, I was thinking of becoming an adult actor with the same love of the grind and not thinking of fame, just pushing, pushing all day.

      @@DexterHaven So did you become a adult actor?

    • @DexterHaven
      @DexterHaven 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be in adult films one has to have the attitude, "I'll take all comers," as it were. I didn't have that, so I pursued other avenues. @@littlebigcommentary

    The acoustics in this video make it hard to understand: I wish that there could be subtitles, so that we could follow the conversation more closely.

    Hughes has the strangest non-plussed reactions when people laugh at what he or Crumb says half the time. Looks like he's just stroked.

    A lot of people truly love R. Crumb (me included), and he is never politically correct. Politically-correctness is the main reason art is almost dead these days. Politically-correctness kills all the human emotions and turns us into zombies. Many great individuals stopped expressing themselves in the past 50years because of the fact that society did not allow them to be honest and forced them violently to be politically correct, but they hated to be politically correct because it killed their creativity. So they they had to live a secluded life. Alas! It's too depressing. P I is the reason people become depressed and suicidal today, because a human being is born to freely express him/herself. But politically correctness does not allow us to be humans.
    Who cares some people/groups get upset about your true feelings, or even threatened you, just express yourself any way you feel and want. If we always care for people's feelings, then we should never say anything, because anything could upset or offend some worthless person/group out there.
    So fuck people's feelings and threats, and Fuck politically correctness!

      Oh, watch out! Anti-PC snowflake is triggered. Help, help, they’re being repressed. XD But seriously though… the mere fact that videos of R. Crumb are easily accessible (not to mention that his artwork is still in print and being sold) totally contradicts the repressive totalitarian portrait of society you sketched. If an artist willfully refrains from producing some work merely on the basis of fear of getting negative criticism from their audience, then that is *their* problem. It would be like a filmmaker pulling out of a project on the grounds that they fear a bad aggregate review on Rotten Tomatoes. They are perfectly free to create and express themselves as they see fit as well as their audience are free to express themselves as they see fit in reaction. Freedom of speech and freedom of creative/artistic expression protects you from government interference/crackdown. It doesn’t protect one from other people expressing their freedom of speech in the form of negative reviews and outraged reaction. Freedom of speech is a two-way road that protects the person being outrageous as well as the person being outraged. You’re tilting at windmills and engaging in hyperbole as is the whole trend of anti-PC partisan politics that itself has engendered its own hyper-sensitive culture of complaint. The stereotypical ultra-sensitive “PC” people and their partisan opponents that find themselves triggered by criticism from the “PC police”/ “SJW” stereotypes are in certain ways inverted, mirrored images of each other.
      It’s not so much the “PC police” that have rendered a bland, uninspired art world as much as the corporate domination and commodification of art, and society more broadly, that has given rise to the mainstream mono-culture of blandness and banality. This is a market place where art is increasingly becoming produced by corporate committee and made with the primary concern of increased sales and market share as opposed to the creation of art that is made for its own sake with a clear distinct vision and creative voice unhindered by financial and monetary concerns. This is especially apparent with Hollywood. Mainstream movies have increasingly become more formulaic, vacuous and shallow at best with a few occasional exceptions of course. It’s a money-making racket for the most part. The exchange value trumps the aesthetic value, i.e. films are to a significant extent primarily treated as investments, products or commodities than they are conceived of as well-crafted/constructed pieces of film art. Despite the dominant corporate mono-culture, if you dig around you can find the alternative culture that is more to your liking. Crumb in particular and underground/alternative comics more generally is proof of this.
