This is the most gorgeous board game. The little detail that went into designing this. From the design of the packaging to the way you don't have to dig out the metal coins form their place holders. This game is a labour of love and it shows.
Dammit! I was heading off in the direction that I didn't need to get this game. You've shown that this isn't just about the hype. I'm glad your review came out a few weeks after the others. Great review Joel!
would this game be good for beginners? this looks super fun and i'll probably get it anyways because it's set in the League of Legends world, but is it a type of game to play at a game night with more casual players? and how is the learning curve of it? 10 minute explanation okay, or is it a half hour explanation before gameplay?
Hey Joel, do you think this game would work as a solo experience? (Adjusting the timer for multiple hands) or would you say that without the social side it loses all the fun?
I think that because Quinns (of Shut Up and Sit Down) came after Tom and his advice basically caused them to add another year+ of development (the entire legacy-lite system and modular boards), that may have of overshadowed Toms visit in their memories. In a recent Reddit AMA by the Riot team behind this, someone mentioned Tom's comment to them and they replied that it was quite possible, although [the replier] thought they may have already been considering co-op and Tom confirmed that idea for them.
N.b. at 12:50 you mention towing minions, but are touching a mech as you do so, I presume you meant to say Mech, as at least on face value I don't see why you'd want to tow a minion. Or can you tow both? Edit: With a few further seconds thought, I've thought of a few reasons you might want to tow a minion. Still suspect you meant mech though.

Thanks Joel. Can't wait for this. Seeing this in your hands makes me wish I was a reviewer :)

The tutorial based approach makes it so you can just setup as you learn to play, which is how I did it and was in and playing in no time.

Solo is a bit tricky. Four mechs would be a lot to keep track of, but if you played it with two characters it's doable for sure.
This is going to be the decider.. and I think ... it's a buy.... see ya October 13th itchy trigger finger internet order guys !
Lucky to get my order through. It's already being shipped. Can't wait :)
Tom actually talked them into making it a co-op so I can see an expansion covering PvP.
I can definitely see it being an addition.
It was already co-op when Tom playtested it.
Interesting since he said that was one of the of the only things they changed after talking to him.

I believe Tom clarified later that he convinced them to FOCUS on the co-op. I suspect it had both a competitive and co-op mode prior to that.
The hype seems to be real for this one. Hope I get a copy before they sell out!
2:08 "the four heroes"...triggered. Lol. just Kidding. Awesome review!
They are heroes to me! :)
Thanks for the review, Joel! Could two players each play as two characters, from what you've seen?
They 100% could.

Oh! I meant to say mech. Ya, you just want to stomp minions :)
Please don't bring up Jar Jar Binks
My brain almost froze at that moment.
are you going to make a gameplay vid? if thats the case I will subscribe :D
I don't plan on doing so. If you check out Watch It Played's channel, he is going to play through every single scenario. :)
