i actually really freaking love this brand of chicken and dumplings, the chicken is not bland to me and the ratio is fine, but it definitely has no salty flavor, i usually add a touch of garlic salt/pepper. and it is soooo good
These used to b so good years ago. I don't know what happened to Sweet Sue. But NOTHING can compare to homemade chicken and dumplings anyway😜Luv the series
Ive come into my own as a cook, and I've completely turned away from canned food, pre-prepared foods, and frozen foods. They are so loaded with chemical preservatives, and more chemicals than a laboratory for the average ready-to-eat meal off the shelf. Foods that just barely represents what it originally was. I cook everything naturally, from scratch, no short cuts in my kitchen. I MAKE time for the food I eat, and it's so much better. It's videos like these that make me think why anyone would want to eat this stuff, you have a choice. I have a home made chicken and dumpling recipe and it's leagues above this. Here it is if anyone want to make it themselves. 1 medium or large broiler-fryer chicken, cut up into section 2 celery ribs, sliced 4 large carrots, peeled and sliced 1 medium onion, diced 1 (14 1/2 ounce) can chicken broth or chicken stock 2 tablespoons dried parsley 2 teaspoons chicken bouillon granules 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/2-1 teaspoon pepper water to cover chicken DUMPLINGS: 2 cups flour 4 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup milk 4 tablespoons oil Directions: In this recipe, you will want two sets of vegetables. You want whole carrots, whole celery, a whole onion. This is initially to flavor the stock and the chicken, the vegetables will become soggy and flavorless after 2 hours, so remove them when you're going to take the chicken out. So separately prepare a second set of vegetables already chopped and ready to go in the pot. Put them in the same time as you're about to do the dumplings, this way they will be firm but crunchy and maintain there own flavor. 1 . Combine chicken, celery, carrots, onion, chicken broth, parsley, chicken bouillon granules, salt and pepper in a large pot or dutch oven; add enough water to cover chicken. 2 . Bring to a boil; reduce heat, cover and simmer for 2 hours or until chicken is done. 3 . Remove chicken and whole vegetables and let stand until cool enough to handle. Discard vegetables. 4 . Remove skin from chicken and discard, tear meat away from bones. Return meat to soup, Add more salt and pepper to taste, if desired. Return soup to a simmer. 5. In a mixing bowl, combine dumpling ingredients and mix well to form a stiff dough. Drop by spoonfuls into simmering soup. 6. Cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes until the dumplings puff up and are the consistency of bread, cut one open and the inside should be puffy with a chewy outside. Gravy 3 cups chicken broth 1/4 cup whipping cream (unwhipped) 2 -3 tablespoons flour Gravy master to preference black pepper Salt to taste In a small bowl whisk together cream, flour and remaining 1/4 cup stock until smooth, then whisk into boiling stock in the skillet. Add the gravy master to taste, you don't need much.
I did try it...once! I think I still have a can of it in my pantry for emergencies but it will have to be a big emergency. I found out the same thing you did...that ain't the way they make it where I come from.
People always complain about how bland the Sweet Sue is, and also that it can be watery! I actually love both those things about it, as I only use it as a meal BUILDER for chicken and dumplings. To me this is "Dumplings in a can"... I add my own precooked chicken from a chicken I made, some of my favorite spices, and peas and carrots. Makes a lovely meal, without all the mess of flour and the hassle of the rolling pin or pizza cutter! :)
hate to differ this one time but I LOVE SWEET SUE CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS - I only eat it about twice a year because I make C&D at home from scratch - (I add generous garlic powder, black pepper and left over white rice to Sweet Sue Chicken & Dumplings)
Hamtaro126 oh please don't apologize there is no need to worry - anybody who could be watching a video on chicken & dumplings and then read a comment about chicken & dumplings and then mistakes c&d to mean cease and desist has bigger problems than understanding my terminology lol - but then again they might think of cease and desist eating the Sweet Sue Dumplings
I'm from the south. This is how northerners make it. Real chicken and dumplings are made with a biscuit doe and dropped in at the finish of the stew. However if I'm at the store and don't want to cook Sweet Sue is a often go too. I like it.
Australian dumplings are very different to those. Ours, or should I say, my mums anyway are more like scones that are cooked on top of a stew. When cooked, they are soft and bready in the middle with a bit of crunch on top. We often have them sweet as well, cooked in a syrup, either goldensyrup with water, or a syrup made of lemonjuice, sugar and water. Sometime our savoury ones are flavoured e.g. Mustard flavoured for beef stew or cheese herb flavoured for chicken casserole.
WolfePit, I have watched many if not most of your videos, and this one is by far my most favorite! You absolutely crack me up! It is so true that people taste garbage like this and then go out to eat a sub-par dish of the same thing and think it is just the best dish ever!
was just talking today about making some homemade chicken and dumplings, thought about add some kabosia sausage. never done it but I like trying to make new thing so I will be making it Friday. have a lovely rest of week peace🦄
Sweet Sue is the only canned chicken and dumplings in a can that I have ever liked. Not as good as homemade but being that its cheap and gives a big enough portion for one sitting I will occasionally eat it for lunch:p My favorite part about the can is that they add extra dumplings:D Sucks there is so much sodium in them though.
"Chicken and dumplings" definitely must be a thick, aromatic stew of full chicken pieces with chunks of vegetables in a savory gravy, with actual biscuits steamed to fluffy perfection on top. You cannot hope to accomplish even a fraction of this hearty goodness from a can; it's just not possible.
I recently picked up a can at the dollar store that was very similar to this, and it *was* labeled "Dumplings And Chicken", and it was indeed mostly dumplings. It had a bit more broth than this one, though.
Open one end and stab the other end with an icepick, knife screwdriver etc. This trick works great on cranberry sauce, Spam whatever is solidly packed.
OMG I have been craving actually turkey and dumplings since my mom DIED on October 22nd 2019. She would always make them for me so this morning I went to Tom Thumb and bought two cans LOL 😂 I GUESS I BETTER SEASON THEM THE BEST I CAN 😩
great review!!I had this sweet see for the first and last time in the 90's. It was awefull. Dumplings are not pieces of pasta that are over cooked. I had it again a few months ago in crackerbarrel and I thought it was awefull. I told them too. I've had sweet sue "whole chicken in a can" and I thought that was great. (again back in the 90's)
Not everything is for the microwave. I love this chicken and dumplings. It's best on the stove, because the soup sets up more. The broth thickens into a type of chicken gravy, causing the chicken flavor to get stronger. Also, I've always loved the dumplings more than the chicken in any recipe.
l love sweet sue chicken and dumplings, and I know how to make GOOD homemade chick n dumplings too. I love the thick chewy dumplings in the can. My homemade are fluffy kind, so these thick ones are a rare treat for me. you're right about the chicken and the sodium content though :(
flip the can over and stick a knife or kitchen scissors in the bottom if you run into foods sticking again..it will look cool and is surprisingly effective in removing the contents. Cheers!
Love this product, as it is either A Working Man's Breakfast, or Dinner, when one has to fill himself fast & get on the road. Granted, it's not any kind of a delicious meal, however, it's both cheap & gets a guy thru the day...
Larry, thanks for another super review!! I love these episodes! Too bad that had so little flavor! Too bad so little chicken! Your theory of how we become accustomed to tasteless food is spot on!! Processed foods like this contributes to the dummying down of America! Right? LOL! Great job!
I can imagine that even making dumplings from BisQuick in instant bouillon would have better results than this. Oh geez. Good thing I never bought this stuff. And from THAT homemade would be two steps up.
Hey Larry! I used to like this can of chicken and dumplings. But I tried it again recently and it wasn't nearly as good as I remembered. I was disappointed. I don't know if it was me or the product. I'd like to like it because it would be something to store for a rainy day.
There are plenty of names of hidden MSG in the product. Especially spice extractive and modified food starch. Generally chicken broth is full of MSG as well. I used to eat this stuff a lot as a child 😮 Blessings!
Years ago it had huge chunks of chicken in it. I bought a can about a yr ago and was highly disappointed on how skimpy it was. I rather just make my mom's drop biscuit chicken and dumplings. Mmm those fluffy dumblings are soooo good.
i love to see you do a review of progresso soup. I love it but I would be curious to see what you think. Love your reviews! I love seeing what's inside some of these crazy cans without having to buy them ! =)
I'm actually a fan of Progresso soups, we have a shelf full of them in the garage. They're not the most flavorful of the soups, but the quality for canned soup seems to be better than some of the others!! LOL! Thanks for watching!
Does anyone remember those small cans of chicken and dumplings in a light blue label. I think they were made by castleberry's or maybe libby's. They were discontinued a few years ago.
Wow that is just a can of stodge that a chicken ran through. Those don't even look like dumplings, but I realize in the USA there are 2 kinds of dumplings. Ones that look like noodles and big fluffy ones that are really a wetter baking powder biscuit. The biscuit type are the ones I make. Then I strain that broth, add the leftover chicken to it, fresh diced celery, onions and carrots and let it simmer for 20 minutes, then spoon drop dough on top that is a little wetter than a baking powder biscuit and simmer for 15 minutes with the lid on. I don't know if everybody makes chicken n dumplings that way, but that is how I learned from my mother. Sometimes I make beef stew n dumplings That is a different process that involves caramelizing cubes of stew beef and lots of onions and letting that simmer for hours before I add the rest of the veggies and dumplings. Or sometimes in a pinch left over roast beef and gravy works.
im eating a can of this while watching this but i love it the sweet sues chicken and dumplings are my favorite
i love this series so much
so do I
Me too! I love his voice.
Jennifer Herrington thanks
Oddly, these videos give me more inspiration to cook than the ones he does of making great food.
LOL Thanks for watching!
i actually really freaking love this brand of chicken and dumplings, the chicken is not bland to me and the ratio is fine, but it definitely has no salty flavor, i usually add a touch of garlic salt/pepper. and it is soooo good
I like it too, though it needs separated before heating. It tends to be jam-packed into a solid mass in the can.
These used to b so good years ago. I don't know what happened to Sweet Sue. But NOTHING can compare to homemade chicken and dumplings anyway😜Luv the series
LOL Thanks for watching!
luvangel myers Sue got old and lazy. She turned into the neighborhood cat lady. You wouldn't eat her food anymore if you saw her kitchen nowadays.
I know what happened......they started using process chicken. I used to eat them and they were good when they used real chicken. Now it is dog food.
I know Sweet Sue personally, she was in an accident. Rather not talk about it
Ha!!! I used to eat those when I didn't have any money and you're right, they are tasteless. Great review Larry!! Keep'em coming brother!!!

Thank you, hero king prince marth. I'll definitely try this out
Ty so much for this
Oh my goodnesss! I don't know how you put this in your mouth! Thanks for taking one for the team. :)
LOL Thanks for watching Marie!
can't believe they don't have "from the company who brought you whole chicken in a can!" written on the packaging
ROFLMAO!!!!
Congrats The Wolfie pit,on 100,000 subscribers
Thank you!
I'm addicted to these videos!!
InternetFad Me too
I honestly think this stuff is delicious it's my favorite canned dumplings
"but I was afraid to add it because I did not want my heart to explode" I laughed so hard at that
I love this man's since of humor.😂
i like to eat Sweet Sue's Chicken for dinner, then i wash myself with a rag on a stick.
That's hilarious!
Oh man, that was funny.
BigMac Mick quote reminds me of Bart from the Simpsons
I subscribed less than a week ago and I noticed your sub count is steadily growing. Great content, man. Keep it up!
I did try it...once! I think I still have a can of it in my pantry for emergencies but it will have to be a big emergency. I found out the same thing you did...that ain't the way they make it where I come from.
As long as one doesn't depend on canned food completely, you can absorb a gross amount of sodium from time to time. Thanks for the review.
I personally like this stuff and I know it's not suppose to taste like it but it's really good
I don't trust "Sweet Sue" after seeing that canned chicken. ✋🏻
LOL Thanks for watching!
this is surprisingly one of my favorite series! thanks for sacrificing for youtube kind lol
You're making these so much more often and that makes me happy :)
LOL Thanks for watching!
People always complain about how bland the Sweet Sue is, and also that

jmarylastone I'd rather eat toast
I must apologize for saying this: but C&D means "Cease and Desist" for most people, So please, even if your intent is good, check your terminology!
Hamtaro126 oh please don't apologize there is no need to worry - anybody who could be watching a video on chicken & dumplings and then read a comment about chicken & dumplings and then mistakes c&d to mean cease and desist has bigger problems than understanding my terminology lol - but then again they might think of cease and desist eating the Sweet Sue Dumplings
jmarylastone Thanks.
No problem differing, that's what makes the world go around! If we all agreed it would be a boring world! LOL Thanks for watching!
More like Salty Sue!! Great video!!
Mormo Zine what's hilarious is that it doesn't even taste salty
Video Game Chef. I've eaten these and they are not that bad but he's right....I had to add salt.
Love these videos! Congrats! On hitting 100k subs! Way to go! TFS!
I love these dumplings! I add pepper to mine
It's best when simmering on the stove for around 30 mins and add a little chicken broth or water. You have to let the gravy form.
hate to admit this, but I love this stuff. lol!
And I thought I was bad...potted meat here.lol
Me too but rarely because it's got so much salt. But most chicken and dumplings I've had are more like chicken soup with fluffy biscuits on top.
Steel...make your own ! You'll get more for your money AND you will know exactly what is in it !
I grew up on this stuff. Heck, I still buy it and feed it to my my kids for dinner on cold winter nights!!
If I could fiigure out how to make it like this I would!
Oh god, I've had this before. It was shocking how bland it was.
Exactly, me 2
I absolutely love these, dude- thanks for making this!
Thanks Robbi!
Great Video Larry! I love Chicken and Dumplings! Congrats on 100,000 Subscribers my friend!
Thank you Ellen!

I was completely caught off guard by the humor in this 😂😂😂 sitting here eating it....And I gotta agree... Definitely prefer cracker barrel!
I love your videos, I thought TheWolfePit was only about reviewing food, when I discovered your recipes I was like OMG O.O So good.
I actually like Sweet Sue's. It's not the best going down, but it's pretty filling because of the bread.
I recently picked up a can at the dollar store that was very similar to this, and it *was* labeled "Dumplings And Chicken", and it was indeed mostly dumplings. It had a bit more broth than this one, though.

I made turkey and dumplings using Bisquick and they were great .
YUM! Thanks for watching!
Can you do a video on the various low sodium/Healthy Choice type soups?
Great idea! Thanks!
TheWolfePit :-)
home made chicken and dumpling are the best. my mom knows how to make it and she taught me how to make it.
these series are great, keep up the good work buddy!
Great video. I finally gave up on finding good chicken and dumplings, I just make them from scratch.
Such a great channel! Keep these reviews coming!
Thank you very much!

My experience with the whole chicken didn't turn out well! LOL Thanks for watching!
th-cam.com/video/KaOZDp9TX9Y/w-d-xo.html
I grew up using black pepper in stead of salt as my father was on a low sodium diet. now I pepper almost every thing.
You sir are a brave man trying some of these foods. Thanks for the knowledge and humor. How about some pork brains in gravy?
Ouch! Miss Sweet Sue let me down! Thanks Larry! Hope you're doing well.
About as well as I can be! LOL Thanks for watching!
Not everything is for the microwave. I love this chicken and dumplings. It's best on the stove, because the soup sets up more. The broth thickens into a type of chicken gravy, causing the chicken flavor to get stronger. Also, I've always loved the dumplings more than the chicken in any recipe.

I LOVE THIS FOOD, I COULD EAT THIS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE AND BE HAPPY
flip the can over and stick a knife or kitchen scissors in the bottom if you run into foods sticking again..it will look cool and is surprisingly effective in removing the contents. Cheers!
Thanks!!
Great review Larry! Thank you for sharing!
This is a great series.
Thanks
Sweet Sur's are my favorite chicken and dumplings 😋
Love this product, as it is either A Working Man's Breakfast, or Dinner, when one has to fill himself fast & get on the road. Granted, it's not any kind of a delicious meal, however, it's both cheap & gets a guy thru the day...
they look bland! I love that you do this although I cringe at what you eat. I can't wait for more, excellent as usual Larry.
Bland indeed Mike! LOL Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I had to give this a try. A can is in my pantry. It can't be horrible.
I just seen this at Wal-Mart today and you came to mind,,, this is great.
Yep, that's where I got mine!! LOL Thanks for watching!
Larry, thanks for another super review!! I love these episodes! Too bad that had so little flavor! Too bad so little chicken! Your theory of how we become accustomed to tasteless food is spot on!! Processed foods like this contributes to the dummying down of America! Right? LOL! Great job!

Thank you John! Nothing like the bluegill in lake Ketchabigwon!
LOL Thanks for watching!
Really enjoy this series
LOL Thanks for watching!
Hey Larry! I used to like this can of chicken and dumplings. But I tried it again recently and it wasn't nearly as good as I remembered. I was disappointed. I don't know if it was me or the product. I'd like to like it because it would be something to store for a rainy day.
Love your reviews Wolf! Keep up the good work.
Thank you Jen!
There are plenty of names of hidden MSG in the product. Especially spice extractive and modified food starch. Generally chicken broth is full of MSG as well. I used to eat this stuff a lot as a child 😮 Blessings!
And not to mention the aluminum..!😮😮😮
I made the mistake of purchasing this once. Never again. And now that I watched this video, I was not wrong. Thanks
LOL! Thanks fro watching!
I grew up on these, TV dinners, and Dinty Moore.
Nor that I enjoyed them...
Man , that sure changed from when I used to eat it 40 years ago .
I love your videos they are so good and so well made
Wow, that looks more luke slop than chicken & dumplings. Glad you tried it so WE THE PEOPLE don't have to
Great series Larry!
I grew up on that stuff...add some milk and a lot of pepper...then crumble saltines on top
LOL Thanks for watching Sam!!
Years ago it had huge chunks of chicken in it. I bought a can about a yr ago and was highly disappointed on how skimpy it was. I rather just make my mom's drop biscuit chicken and dumplings. Mmm those fluffy dumblings are soooo good.
Over 2 grams of salt and it's bland? Wow, that's quite an achievement.
LOL Thanks for watching!
I love the "Deluxe" recipe :D
How about doing the canned chicken and tuna salads in this series.
Good idea, I'll add them to my ever growing list! LOL Thanks for watching!
If you cook it with some milk butter and pepper it's actually not bad! Nothing right out of a can is good
i love to see you do a review of progresso soup.
LOL! Thanks for watching!
i kind of like these
I take them camping sometimes
Does anyone remember those small cans of chicken and dumplings in a light blue label. I think they were made by castleberry's or maybe libby's. They were discontinued a few years ago.
Such a good series! Nice job and different! Do government cheese next!!!
Where do I get it?? LOL Thanks for watching!
Haha not sure, it may just find you! Anytime! We love your videos.
I used to eat swansen chicken and dumplings but i cant find them anymore....wonder if this is similar...
Hi, Larry. Another great video as always. What's the best option for handling beef or chicken? Have a good day, Larry. Tell T-ROY Cooks I said hi.
Putting butter in it makes it delicious 😋
Wow that is just a can of stodge that a chicken ran through. Those don't even look like dumplings, but I realize in the USA there are 2 kinds of dumplings.
