Christine Alwaysbelieve70 I can understand a kid eating spaghetti o's (I liked sausages & beans as a kid, and still maybe every other month eat them for nostalgia.) I also still like canned soup. But I never tried a Twinkie until I was 20 (I'm British they only came into the country a few years ago, I'm a week and a half off 24 now.) and I think they taste like found chemical cream and dry but yet chemically wet sponge cake. I can understand why kids won't like them, I wouldn't of eaten more than 1 as a kid. Idk if there as popular as they seem in the USA, but all I ever heard about them is that there a stereotypical fat 400lbs dude food, and I can get that. There not a sweet tasty treat, but if your a obese mofo, you can get your sugar and sat fat fix from them. Eww twinkles, give me a Bakewell tart anyday. Or a jam tart.

    • @northumbriabushcraft1208
      @northumbriabushcraft1208 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Why would anyone wash the can out? If you mean it the way I'm thinking. (Btw this is a long comment, if you get to the bottom, like so I know you've read it all, then reply, would love to hear what you think is foul and what's lush)
My mother and grandparents used to scoop everything out with a spoon, but washing the can was only done before washing the can water down the sink and the clean can being binned.
Are you honestly saying that your parents washed the can out into your plate/bowl? I would of been upset at that.
There's no point in doing that. I don't know why even the most poor people could do that. It's
      A) disgusting
      B) if you add the water to your food it will give you like 30 calories and make the rest of the food taste worse, canned food is bad enough.
I used to and still like canned chicken and veg, beef and veg or lamb and veg soup. That's the only thing I'll eat out of a can now.
I used to like canned ravioli as a kid, but I couldn't eat that now. I used to eat cans of beans with sausages in them too.
I haven't had them in years but could still eat them, actually I've had a can like 6 months ago. Thay were a decent snack.
I couldn't eat mac & cheese out of a can, that's disgusting mush pasta to me.
As a kid I also liked tinned fruit of all kinds, now I only like tinned pineapple rings.
And as I said, I'll only still eat tins of chunky soup and tins of beans + sausages (or something else meaty other than sausages) I had a full minty in a can today, along with a small chicken and veg pie. The full month had 2 huge sausages (just like sausage and bean sausage but huge) then the 2 mini beef patties which had the best texture. And there was also a chicken nugget in there which was okay.
If the can had been washed and put in the pot with my food (even though I cooked it haha, it was cooked in my dad's kitchen tho, I don't live with my dad btw) I wouldn't be happy. Happy I cooked it myself, especially if a can washer was around, my mam's former next door neighbour was a can washer and she was a childminder too, what cruelty. I remember she looked after me like 2-3 times when I was between 5-8 and she always fed the kids watered down foods, watery gravy and meat slurry concoctions.
Mind she was about 350lbs and paid well, so she eat well (plus she was 5' tall, so 350lbs was a lot, I mean my girlfriend is near 300lbs, but she is over 7' tall so she doesn't look fat at all, not even chubby.) yet after eating so much she still skimped out on the kids she looked after, there were simpler, cheaper and nicer foods than the watered down crap she served to her inmates. (I'm not on about my beautiful partner here but my mam's fat 350lbs 5' cruel to kids friend. My girlfriend lives children and is a nice cook. She's Argentinian and makes some mean spicy steak.
Back to the original topic, I won't eat much out of a can, chicken, beef or lamb soup, pineapple rings, corned beef, tuna, maybe chilli sometimes, and a few other things.
People who feed their children stuff like this daily should be trialled for child abuse. Most things advertised at kids that are in a can aren't healthy and taste foul. Nothing wrong with giving a kid a few pineapple rings or peach slices from a can (I can't stomach canned peach now, loved it as a kid) or a nice meat and veg soup. But stuff like spaghetti o's, canned ravioli, canned Mac & cheese is so bad that kids shouldn't eat it. I could possibly eat canned ravioli but I'm not sure.
Canned food is survival ration food. Other than soup and pineapple I don't think I could eat any canned food regularly. Usually the meat that goes into canned food is already worse than other kinds of meat. That's why I choose chunky soup, so I know I at least get a few bits of meat, even if there old, the soup they have been sitting in moistens the meat making it palatable.
But please don't feed your kids canned crap regularly, maybe once or twice a week. I eat canned soup twice a week and instant noodles twice a week and I'm trying to cut it out for better more healthy snacks. I don't mind too much about the soup as it has a shit ton of veggies in it, but the instant noodles I serve with egg, and that's not healthy, I hope to cut down to 1 pack every 2 weeks.
But as I said before don't feed your kids canned shit. Most of its disgusting and torture for kids, a lot of which have never tasted proper food.
Don't abuse your kids with fake food because your a cheap bastard. Feed them taters, carrots. Cabbage, beef, chicken, mutton, beans, veggies, fruit, in general give them a balanced diet and plenty of exercise so your boys grow up into real men and your girls don't grow into chubby belugas.
Anyway treat your kids right and God bless those who do. Those who feed their kids nothing but canned, instant and processed frozen food, Satan has a special place in hell for you. Alongside the nonces and child abusers. Because feeding your kids food which will make them I'll and their bodies break down 24/7 while knowing it is disgusting. If your young kids don't eat veg feed them very veggie in the planet till they find one they like, or try actually seasoning their food. No kid wants to eat Brussels sprouts, swede, cabbage, broccoli or whatever boiled in fresh water or only slightly better, saltwater. Season their food, and any kid will eat veggies, I mean I'd eat them raw as a kid, but I had friends who wouldn't eat veg, eat it at my house because my mam made honey roast carrots or parsnips, Cajun veg (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage) or spiced veg (broccoli, carrots, onions, cauliflower, parsnips, etc) even gravy on veg makes it edible to kids. there is no excuse. Don't abuse your kids.
God bless all of you who feed your kids right, and who love healthy well prepared food.
Tell me what you think of canned food, I know I've mumbled on about stuff for ages, I've not said anything I disagree with. What do you lot think of canned and frozen shit foods, I bet we all have one or two canned/frozen food we like etc: canned: chicken/beef/lamb&veg chunky soup, canned pineapple. Frozen: southern fried chicken fillet tenders, and jalapeño and cheese breaded bites.
Tell me what crap foods you like and tell me a story, would love to hear it. And like I said if you read my whole ranting comment, throw me a like so I know you've read it all, it means something when people listen to my long stories, though I don't give a shit if you don't read it or don't care.
God bless all you good folks. Tread your kids well, peace.

A rant I know if you can't be arsed to read my big comment i understand, but I think I've covered everything I'd like to comment on in this cider fuelled tirade of truth. A lot of canned foods are shit, and my long comment explains it with some stories thrown in. God bless.

I just learned how to make home made spagettios! I got about 24 cans of tomato soup so I wanted to learn how to use them up. Yeah as a kid in the 70's everything was home made by my mom. She would not by anything like this for us even if we begged. My cousin got it though and we were jealous! I have bought it for my kids as a quicky when I was working or going to school and keep them quiet.

I remembered these Spaghettios too. Found them on Amazon, $10.78/12 pack with free Prime shipping. Got a package ordered. They have them with "chicken meatballs" too, but a bit over twice the price. The straight Spaghettios without meatballs are twenty bucks per 12 pack! I guess the meatballs are cheaper to produce than the pasta.

This is something I have eaten for many years, and I find that no matter the brand the use of breadcrumbs is what separates the best from the rest. There are many ingredients but none of them generate red flags and they add up to a surprisingly great whole. Easily one of the top 10 canned foods you can get, and for me the #1 if you exclude soup.

Thank you Mr. Wolfe. These canned spaghetti O's rock. The Chef Boyardee's products are awesome. Canned macncheese however I'd rather make some Kraft instead. The canned mac just scares me for some reason.

You brought me back. I started thinking about my hotwheels cars and my Saturday cartoons. Yes, food is a time machine.

Oh wow! I had totally forgotten Franco American. Us 80's kids had it to. I remember the can designs you showed. Also remember (I don't think you can get them anymore) this weird Franco American "Macaroni and Cheese" which was just really long uncut macaroni noodles in a weird clumpy cheese sauce. They were so terrible yet as a noodle fan I was willing to put up with sup bar cheese for the absolutely ridiculous length of the noodles. They were a terrible mess to eat which is perfect for any growing boy concerned with his MEQ (Mess Efficiency Quota)

Oh, man I loved SpaghettiO's as a kid. I still like them for that matter. I remember the Franco american brand well. I am 42, and I remember seeing Franco American brand through the 80's. This video reminded me of Saturday mornings and my Dukes of Hazzard big well.

I used to savor the meatballs as well. I would make white bread meatball sandwiches after I finished the pasta.

Do Heinz not do Spagetti Hoops in the US? It was a staple in the UK in the 70s. So much so it features in Gene Hunt's opening lines in Life on Mars.
