TWIN EATON M90'S FIRST START!! - HOW MUCH BOOST??- TWIN EATON SUPERCHARGER BUILD PART 5

  • The twin Eaton's finally made it on top of the engine over the last week or so, so before we go any further and start putting all of the wiring, brake lines, and fuel lines back into the car, i want to make sure this thing runs. Hooked up a fuel line, coil wire , and jumped the starter solenoid, and well.... it fired!

      Same here and I saw an 81' Firebird for sale that has a V6 and then an M90 Supercharger in another ad and this vid has got me thinking about putting the M90 on the Firebird and get the electronics from an 02' Pontiac that can with a factory installed M90 supercharger and stick it in that Firebird should I ever get enough money to buy it before it's sold

    Like Dr. Frankenstein said "IT'S ALIVE"!!! You might want to get some idler pulleys with flanges on either side to keep the belt from walking off sideways. I bet the blowers could build enough pressure to blow the head gaskets out but I have a feeling that carb won't flow anywhere near the CFM's you're gonna need to produce the full power the twin blowers could produce. The blowers can build pressure but if they are restricted on the intake side the blowers will starve for air and they will be trying to pressurize air they don't have. Looking at it only from the perspective of boost misses the aspect of total cfm through the entire motor from the air cleaner out the exhaust. The motor is just a big air pump and you could spin it with an electric motor without any fuel or ignition and just measure the total amount of air it can move in CFM. If it can move x amount of air without the carb and less with it then the carb is restricting the whole system. You might want to go to 2 carbs with one for each blower.

    I have an Eaton M90 off a 2000 Pontiac Gran Prix I'm looking to fab up for my Jeep 258. I see you did a draw thru setup which is how I'm looking to configure mine. I was planning on welding up a small plenum adapter to go from my Weber 38 to the blower and into the intake. A lot of people advise against draw thru but that's my only option short of fuel injecting it. Any tips or pointers? How did you set the vaccum up? Did you use breather vents or actually plumb some hose in? Thank you! Awesome build by the way...It's not everyday you see two blowers custom fabbed like that!

    • @rottersgarage
      @rottersgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a regular chevy valve cover pcv valve to do my crank case venting. The blowers were welded up to basically be just blowers. Tips..... Not really, all depends on the application, just keep your base plate heavy and flat and the rest of the connections just need to be welded good and sealed tight

Hell, occasionally I stand on the top rung of a ladder too... Both latches need to be pulled to let the hoist down, they shouldn't have put them under there in the first place when they made the hoist, and if you ain't never been torched by a carb a little bit you ain't no mechanic. You are using flat belts and you cannot guarantee that all the pulley surfaces and axes are true. Do what the Victorian engineers did with their line shafts and pulleys, machine a gentle dome on each pulley. Flat belts always run up hill, when they get to the top there is nowhere to go except stay there. No keeper plates required. not the same as timing belts. It goes without saying that accuracy in alignment will help. If you use domes and the belts fall off then look at the alignment. You have the expertise to build a test rig.
    Thoroughly enjoyed your videos, I would like to see the Model A make progress to restoration.

      There are no bypasses. Years before i started this build i had gotten the superchargers, put them in my bandsaw, and cut them off right at the throttle body. The bypass ports were still there, but i did seal them off in one of the build videos. I appreciate the comment, it got cold up here and we are currently focusing on ice racing which will be starting in a week or two. Will most likely pick up with this project in spring when the temps go back up. Need to do some major jetting and a carb swap to make this thing right....

    • @rottersgarage

      @@rottersgarage I just watched part 4 and caught all of that haha. Certainly is an awesome project. I had to do some modifications to the inlet of a cnc ported M90 to make work for the 3800 in my 2002 Pontiac Firebird. It turned out pretty good I must say lol. Everyone of course hassled me about LS swapping it because that's what f-body cars should have in them (and I would agree) but I wanted to try and have some fun and be different. The power to weight ratio of my car right now is about the same as one with a stock LS1 in it. I can easily keep up. I've actually pulled away from a 2010 Camaro that had a stock LS3, but those gen 5 cars are 1000 pounds heavier.

Wont take much to machine a few pulleys out of a piece of 4" billet bar stock. Pretty fucken cool bit of kit though mate, whish we could make shit like this in Australia. Well, we could make it; but never expect to actually drive it around with the nanny state we live have to live with.
