Doc Ock's voice get's so much more quieter after being cured. Almost like he felt like he had to talk louder than the voices in his head.

@@cunningsmile4166 Depends on how the phrase, "To be used for the good of mankind" is viewed. If it is a stipulation, then yes, it's not really a gift, more of a privilege. But I think Otto meant it in more of a guidance tone, as he was a teacher saying it to a student at the time... possibly even a plea. Please use it for the good of mankind, now that you technically have free rein to do with it as you please.

No way home shows that most of the spider man villains aren't evil by nature but are turned evil by a psychological means. The way they handled this movie in that way is great.

Lizard-Split Personality with Lizard form/identity
Electro-Powers amplified his anger and grand delusions that stemmed from his own insecurities and sense of inferiority
Sandman-Anger/Trust issues along with maintaining human form from powers (more of a physical problem to cure instead of mental)
when everyone is a victim of things rather than a villain of their own accord... its as boring a story to tell than if everyone is mustache twirling supervillain. some villains just need to be villains without some sob story to explain away their villainy.
Except that is not how Octavius was in SM2. The tentacles spoke with him and convinced him. He himself was consciously thinking that was justified after they told him what had priority but that is the point: He was still having his conscious thoughts. They just convinced him. Here it looks like they mind controlled him and made him angry which he was not even in the movie. Otto in SM2 beat the tentacles because he was not literally mind controlled like a puppet but because Peter told him that what he thought was flawed and then it took him only like 20 seconds to control the arms again. Here he had to be cured instead of just be convinced of morals. And no, him losing control over them and then being talked into a different mindset is not the same as mind control.

This movie is horrible. Script is horrible. DoC Ooc was much better in Spider-Man 2. Where he belongs. Not in these horrible marvel universe movies.

"Remarkable...the technology AND you..." That was definitely Norman Osborn showing genuine respect to Peter's scientific intelligence. Goblin wasn't in control yet.
Goblin was always in control, just letting Norman think he's in control while he stalks a new prey while watching & hearing everything with his perfect disguse to find out how to hurt him the most

Goblin wasn’t “in control” until Peter’s sense kicks in, THAT is when Goblin fully takes control over Norman, until then he was basically watching Peter and analysing him to find his weakness which was Aunt May pushing him to be compassionate which is everything the goblin isn’t

Indeed. In the comics and other versions Norman is always show already as corrupt CEO and abusive father, with most of the drama coming from Peter having to fight the father of his best friend rather than Norman situation with Goblin. In the movies, while he is not saint (he does ignore Harry and show favoritism to Peter more than his own son), he is not a monster like Goblin, who represents his inner anger and fear of failure and lost.
In excellent storytelling, the villain is never just evil or corrupt for no reason. They view themselves as righteous and the hero of their story. No one is born a villain. They become one due to circumstances in their life up to that point. By humanizing the villains in the MCU, the writers added depth to those characters. This film was a terrific addition to the MCU.
His greed created the goblin. Hyde cannot exist without Jekel.

Sure, it's possible to have villain who are just bastard but that doesn't mean they can have interesting backstory to explain where that evil comes from nor a motivation that people can understant and even connect to something we relate to, because characters, like any form of art, comes from real place and is by understanting this places it creates the connection between the characters and the public, making them interest in see where the story goes next.
@@maxpowers4436 Not just his greed but also Norman arrogance as well. When he said to Peter in Spiderman that they are not so different, he was not totally wrong, since they are both men who were bullied and betrayed by society (peter was victim of bully and Norman was fired by his company board). The difference is that Peter is humble and, when things go bad to his life, he just adapts himself to the situation, while is scared from failure which results in him being corrupt by Goblin and unleash his anger towards those who in his eyes ruined his life.

Well, he got teleported in from right before the end of Spider-Man 2. What’s scary is that he wasn’t Doc Ock for long. A few days. Maybe a week.

Really great acting by Molina.
It was subtle, he would use we instead of I alot.
And in context it makes the look on his face in his own movie at the end all the more painful.

The whole theme of this movie was about second chances. The villains got second chances. Even Andrew & Tobey in a way got a second chance. Andrew got the chance to saved a loved one from falling to her death and Tobey got the chance to make a cure and save Norman.
not just that. it was also about shouldering the consequences and learning to rise above your failures
After stopping Tom from killing Norman/Goblin, Tobey’s Peter could have a second chance at a renewed friendship with Harry
@nguy19 exactly, they didnt undo any past events. raimiverse and webbverse was basically 5 episodes of ''what if the villains wouldnt pulled out of their own universes''
And the meta aspect that Andrew and Toby as actors got a second chance to play spider-man, most poignantly with Andrew, going from least liked Peter to now many fans most liked Peter.
Tobey got a second chance to cure Flint Marko instead of trying to revenge-murder him.
I absolutely loved how it showed that the villains really weren’t bad people. And it was so heartbreaking to see how Norman and Peter were getting along so well before Goblin took over

@@BooBop1987 In the end, Norman was cured, but it was clear that he was broken. "What have I done?" He left the 616 universe realizing he had murdered May Parker and taken Peter's mother figure from him. Wilem Defoe didn't put a big relieved smile on Norman Osborn's face. He gave the character a great sense of guilt.

Al Molina’s take on Doc Ock is perfect. He nails it, despite the absurdity of the character himself, and adds a human and emotional gravitas that other actors might have just phoned in. Doc Ock in comics has always been kind of goofy. Molina plays it seriously (for the most part) and knocks it out of the park!
and makes Doc Ock's turn in to the Superior Spider-Man that much more believable
He's come a long way since stealing the idol and leaving Indy for dead.
I love Alfred Molina as our Dr. Octopus. He is one of the most sexiest characters that I ever seen in a Spider-Man Film.🙂
Molina made a great Doc Ock. I used to like Octopus in Spectacular Spiderman animated series. He was sometimes goofy but he could be serious as well. I like characters like him because he was not evil but someone with his knowledge could easily do a of evil. I wish they would keep Molina in MCU with the others as they would be a great team. It has powerful and intelligent characters that could do a lot of good and not just as heroes.

There's something about seeing a villain get the ever-loving snot beaten out of them...but being "cured" altogether is also something to see.
Well except for certain villains I mean there are some who will never be cured. Hell just take Joker as an example who many have tried to cure but they all fail. Joker is basically a psychotic version of Loki.

Otto being good as he was at the beggining of spider man 2 was so wholesome, and how he helps the spidermen at the end... it just feels right for him
The only good Character out of the Former Members Spider-Man Villains who does have a very good arc. That's for sure.🙂
@@BooBop1987 Sandman wasn't exactly evil either, since he didn't intend to kill Uncle Ben, it was an accident. And he consistently showed remorse and regret for the pain he put May & Peter through. To me, that makes him about as likable and sympathetic as Doc Ock. Particularly considering the fact that at the end of Spider-Man 3, after being defeated, Sandman just comes clean about the entire thing and even states that he's not asking Peter to forgive him, he just wanted Peter to understand the situation he was in. I honestly liked the whole thing about Sandman just being a loving father who was desperate to find a way to save his daughter.
Almost 2 decades and i can finally say Octavius finally got his closure and freedom back. To me, he was the first sympathetic villain in my life i truly felt bad for as a kid growing up watching the earlier spider man movies. This feels complete and I'm happy he got a second chance in the end. This movie completes me.
Yeah, I feel bad for him too in Spider-Man 2. And we all need to thank Sam Raimi for making a very good character that we really do care about.🙂

Yeah I remember how he started out as a really nice guy (there was something about his wife, too, she died maybe?) and I felt bad about him. Dock Ock doesn't even look different despite all the years since then. Good make-up, I guess. I haven't even seen this movie, just clips, but maybe I will now.
Yeah, you sort of feel bad for Norman but he at least knew completely that he could go insane from doing what he did, and did it anyway

Well, probably not just screeches and squeals. The tentacles talked in Otto's mind, as shown in the novelization. They are capable of talking, expressing their emotions and acting human. Should I send the part in the novelization where Otto started re-gaining control over his mind in a comment? Cause it's some pretty interesting stuff.

The bible talks about a "peace that passes all understanding." To feel that kind of peace after being driven by the hardware for so long...it must be overwhelming.
I always felt sooo bad for Otto, seeing how tortured he was at the end of Spider-Man 2. To seeing the weight of the arms psychologically lifted off his shoulders was tear jerking for sure!

Norman and Otto love every version of Peter. I love this.
I really love everything in this scene. Alfred Molina looks like he actually just awoke from a nightmare, the way his lips quiver before he says "I'd almost forgotten", like he's on the verge of tears. Every line he delivers is on point. Later when Goblin takes over and he says "Norman no..." it's heart wrenching because you know it hurts him more than most to see Norman losing himself, not just because they were clearly friends in this iteration, but because he knows first hand what it's like having your own mind and body out of your control.

Friends in this iteration...? Well, eh... In the novelization for Spider-Man 2 it is said that he found Harry more tolerable than his father, who's death he wasn't mourning in the slightest. My theory is that the whole experience he went through in Spider-Man 2 changed his opinion of others.
Maybe. Or maybe not friends, but fellow scientists who respected each other's work.
And yes, seeing Norman lose himself again, knowing first hand what it's like, that, "Norman, no" hits home.

Well Doc was in a similar situation to Hulk where he and the arms can have a hand on the wheel
People have to remember that Goblin & Norman are separate entities.... They were able to help these people, but be careful in real life, not everyone "just needs help" some like the goblin & the tentacles ARE bad without manipulations.
I think that's Norman. Mainly because, when Doc Ock is cured he says "Otto?" in a sympathetic and kind voice that Goblin would never do. Also, if he did change, Peter would've sensed it.
I think the moment he changes is just after this scene, where Otto talks to Norman about how it feels to be rid of his darker half, to which Norman replies that it'll be "just me", but in a slightly gobliny way, that most wouldn't recognize if they didn't know (and right after that scene we get the spider sense scene, so yeah)

As someone with a thought-heavy variant of OCD, This line filled me with envy. I would do anything for just 5 minutes of a quiet headspace.
Having a continuous tinnitus ringing in my ears, that only gets opaque in a place with louder sounds, quietness would be a great stuff.

Me, too! I love him as Doc Ock when I was a kid when I saw him in *Spiderman 2* and now I love him more after watching *Spiderman: No Way Home* and I want to give Mr. Molina the biggest hug he’ll ever remember!

I always have found the way this Doc Ock is treated in the original movies and here as interesting as the comic version is a sociopath with little to no redeeming features.

I loved how they did doc ock and sandman in this. Both actually were friendly with peter in the end of their movies, and now they were the ones helping peter out
Sandman is actually quite cold in the film considering his expected and somewhat supported helpful demeanour, abandoning Peter when things go haywire as the Goblin attacks, and simply wanting the box to go home as opposed to help in battle in the finale. I don't think it suits his character, as theoretically, his attitude should almost match, if not match, the kind attitude that we see in Doc Ock, albeit with a colder, more hardened slant. However, I do like that a character is colder and more selfish - Everyone being helpful would feel unrealistic and even goofily cheesy. I just don't think this suits Sandman's character.

I love how Norman is genuinly happy to see Peter succeeding, how different things could have been if he never went through with his body enhancement test

@@seiggrainhart4719the goblin serum is basically an incomplete version of the super soldier serum that made captain America.
The incomplete serum basically did almost the same thing in the Raimi universe as it did in the MCU universe. It enhanced the person but also gave them a second personality that takes over. In the MCU, it's Banner/Hulk and in Raimi, it's Norman/Green Goblin.

I LOVE this scene. It’s one of my favorite scenes in the film. The acting is INCREDIBLE. As some of the other people are saying, this scene shows that the villains aren’t completely evil. They are seriously broken individuals.

Most of these guys were victims of a science experiment gone wrong or were in the wrong place at the wrong time. There powers along with their psychological stress altered there personality giving in to their newborn powers

I love how they handled Doc Oc. His tentacle were affecting his mind thanks to the chip that prevented that being fried on his experiment. So when Peter installs the new chip, his tentacle are no longer affecting his mind. His reaction to the voices in his head being gone are heartbreaking. I love how he immediately says “how can I help?”
I'm choosing to believe that after they all went back to their respective universes, Tobey's Spider-man recruited Doc Ock and Norman into his own Avengers team. Doc still has his arms that he can use to help, and Norman still has his technological expertise and probably has the physical enhancements that came from his experiment, just now without the Goblin inside his head.
Doctor still kept his arms. A remarkable homecoming scene to see in this spectacular moment. I love all the movies I've seen back in 2002. Spidey still got it

I think whenever they were talking about "fixing" each other Goblin came out, especially when Electro had the device put on him. He comes out when Norman is threatened usually, but he could've easily been faking it. He nearly tricked Peter into getting a blade to the back in Spiderman 2002.
IMO at the start up to this point Norman was never truly In control, goblin just took the passenger seat to study his prey closely to find what's keeping Peter going too far. Goblin could've taken back over anytime but instead played the Long game

Well Goblin agreed too. You could kind of see it at the start of his first film, before the arms, he was prickly to new people, but once he got to know Tobey's Peter, he Uncled him. Once again, once Tom's Peter replaced his chip and given him the ability to think for himself again, Otto spent the rest of the film trying to protect him and Tobey and Andrew.
They should right a spin off comic book series of Tobey's Spiderman and Otto as a duo.

I don't feel bad crying at Alfred Molina's brilliant performance, since I found out the man himself shed a tear or two on set. The actors were just as affected by this as the fans, and you can see it in all their performances.
Plus he did play a very good character who has a very good storyline!

I'm not a MCU hardcore fan (I haven't watched like 3/4s of it), but I used to think nothing could surpass Endgame, then this movie came, honestly a historic masterpiece in film history.
Molins's performance of Doctor Octopus is so good. A whole movie could be made just about his character.

Honestly speaking, Tom is the best to balance both Peter and Spider-Man really well and also got the best character growth of all but never got the respect because Spider-Man fanbase is unfortunately dominated by people blinded by nostalgia. IMO Tobey would have been still the best if SM3 didn't come into existence. SM3 completely ruined the character for me. Andrew's SM is only good at swinging and action sequence but got the worst storyline of all including worst characterization of Spider-Man (ofcourse not his fault).
But in terms of delivering performance all 3 of them are uniqely great.

@@christianfrost8660 Since Norman survives, his timeline probably branches off into one where he’s alive, CEO of Oscorp, and never funds Otto’s research in the first place, especially knowing what he now knows. But at the point on the timeline that Otto returns to, Norman is still dead, Harry still backed the demonstration that turned him into Doc Ock, he’s still fighting Spider-Man on the waterfront, and the only way to stop the reactor is for him to drown with it.
TL;DR, once he returns home, Norman Osborn could probably save Otto Octavius in his timeline, but when Otto returns, he still has the tentacles and the heroism that inspired his original sacrifice in his timeline.
@@rockerfish223 Unless they are all sent into the same timeline. Norman is intelligent enough to try to force nature to take its course and to only change something if he had to. If I were Norman. I would vanish myself and only resurface at the docks that night.
This movie made me cry as much as Endgame did. That speaks volumes.
Same here, Otto’s actor showed a great sense of relief and freedom from the mechanical arms that was controlling him.
Yeah, it speaks at how manipulated you are into thinking emotions = a good movie. Endgame was decent but NWH was nowhere near as great as it could've been.

The movie did so much more than that with the characters. Involved all of them and added to them in ways they didn't realistically have to do. NWH is the only spiderman movie constantly making me debate if it can take spiderman 2's title as best spiderman movie. Because it very well could.
If there ever is a Back to the Future Reboot, Tom Holland should play Marty McFly. The way he says "Doc"... I kept thinking of Doc Brown.

This movie really displayed how instead of being actually evil, the Spider-Man villains here mainly had a form of serious mental health issues:
Green Goblin-Dissociative Identity Disorder (Split Personality as Goblin)
Doc Ock- Schizophrenia (“voices” of tentacles in his head)
Lizard-Split Personality with Lizard form/identity
Electro-Powers amplified his anger and grand delusions that stemmed from his own insecurities and sense of inferiority
Sandman-Anger/Trust issues along with maintaining human form from powers (more of a physical problem to cure instead of mental)
As someone with DID, I disagree that any of these villains are representations of this disorder. Maybe the shitty, movie version of the disorder, but it is in no way reflective of ACTUAL Dissociative Identity Disorder. I haven't seen enough of the Lizard one to give much of a take on that one, but to me Goblin is kind of a combination of Electro (delusions of grandeur) and Doc Ock (hallucinations/hearing voices).
To be clear, I would agree that Goblin could be a system, which is the term for people who are multiple like with DID. There are ways of having multiplicity without is specifically being DID, and if we really have to insist that the Goblin is truly separate from Norman, and not just a delusion/hallucination, then I would say it falls more into that category that just straight-up DID. I'd say he falls more closely to a BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) system rather than a DID system.
Again, this is all assuming we are ignoring the inaccurate depictions usually seen in movies. While it does closely align with many of those, and it very well could be what they were trying to portray as writers, it is in no way an accurate depiction if that's how you interpret it. The "one alter is evil" trope is inaccurate and is typically considered harmful by the DID/system community; the closest most systems have to an "evil alter" would be a persecutor, and those are a threat to the system themself, not those around it. Obviously, in theory anyone is capable of being violent or whatever, but the implication that if you have DID then you have a violent alter is one that exists in far too many movies and is just an incredibly harmful narrative.
TL;DR It's not DID unless you mean the shitty version that ONLY exists in movies.

My take on it is this: Even if the core message they're going for is good (balance, internal interactions, etc.) if it shows off an "evil alter" then it's a bad portrayal due to the harm it causes by spreading harmful stereotypes about the disorder.
One series I am excited for, though, is Moon Knight. I've heard that one has a better portrayal, which I'm definitely hopeful about!

Octavius is such a tragic villain. He never meant to become one, but the arms controlled him, all because of an accident, in which he was doing something out of the goodness of his heart, but it backfired.
If anyone deserved a second chance, it was Otto. The problem is that I'm just not sure that he survived even with this.
I like to believe that when Doc ock says "science fair project" it's a referencd to MJ saying "you got what you needed for your science project" when doc ock kidnapped her in SM2
I think the best thing about 'No Way Home' apart from seeing Tobey and Andrew back is seeing Doc Ock and Osborne interact together.

I freaking love this movie, man. :') It did so much for Spiderman fans in such a short period of time. It gave Tom the jolt he needed to learn the true meaning behind being Spiderman, AND gave 2 other Spidermen and their villains a triumphant return. John Watts as well as everyone else involved, bless you.
