@jeffreypeters2803 says: *That Raimi theme playing when Ock and Tobey meet never fails to make me tear up. He is bound to do what he did in Spider-Man 2 again in order to stop his machine because there was no other way to stop it.
Yeah and now with the power of the sun in the palm of his hand, when he goes back he can use that thing to enhance his ability to control the tritium and create a barrier around it and absorb it into that device giving him a 2nd chance
Hopefully him amd Osborn are still alive in their world now that they're cured. They both deserve a second chance, and maybe we'll see how that affects Tobey Spider-Man and Flint Marko when they get back.
3:08 What I love about this is the actual REAL joy in Alfred's face and voice, being reunited in character with his co-star after so many years. Brilliant.
Tobeys and Alfred’s scene literally spoke to an entire generation for we are actually now indeed all grown up and trying to do better each day. It was damn good to see them both again.
I legit teared up at that scene. Cuz I remember watching the first spiderman film with my brothers. I was just in high school freshmen year. Now I'm a guy with a family of my own. N when I saw this scene my lil girl goes "daddy why u crying?" I tell her "cuz sweetie these two made my childhood awesome"
3:00 the way Doc Ock/Alfred Molina was subtly speaking to the audience that grew up with Raimi Spider-Man as well as Peter with this line gets me every time.
@@BooBop1987 I get the reference but have no idea why you think it applies here. This is NOT an unexpected incursion from out of nowhere of something with no obvious connection to the plot. These two were both integral to the plot of this movie and had been in it for 2 hours up to this point. And the line itself is not a meaningless time-filler -- it calls back to a movie many years before and helps tie up important plot points in this movie.

I know I'm not the only one that was happy crying when Octavias saw Spider/Tobey. "You're all grown up" hits us true spiderman fans right in the heart.
It's uncle Otto, the loving and caring Uncle that we lost due to the darkness taking hold of him and not getting to see him reconcile with us before his death. "The power of the Sun." "In the palm of your hand." That was the best thing I've seen in the theater. Doc being brought back after his character arc was thought to be completed and showing him that his dream had been achieved in the MCU, and nobody even noticed.
@@Kal-EL_Voltahe's probably both impressed and awestruck at the same time. Remember, his OG demo reactor was both huge(compared to Tony's chest reactors), and still unstable. And then he finds out that someone in another dimension managed to achieve his life goal(albeit through a different method), AND was able to make it portable, and the man was barely trying the first time. As a man; is he jealous? A little, maybe, yeah. But he's throughly impressed and intrigued as a fellow scientist. Imagine if he found out that Tony's first model was "built in a cave, with a box of scraps".
This is hands down a top three marvel movie of all time. you could just feel the emotion and the goosebumps throughout the whole movie. another thing I liked about it was it shows that no matter how many times someone stumbles and loses the way. It doesn’t mean they’re lost forever.
It's the chuckle and beaming smile that sells it. He doesnt know where to start, and truly wants to know just how he's been. I always love when a typically milquetoast expression can be genuinely meaningful like that.
The best part that I love about Dr. Octopus the most is that he is the only Character out of the 5 Villains who has a very good flesh out and a well developed Storyline from start to Finish. That is truly about going on a Journey of heading to a new World where he had never gone before. Where he is truly fish out of Water and he learned about the New World for a short period of time for 2 whole days. When he is both a bad guy and a good guy at the same time. Something that all the fans have completely forgot about to talk about for the whole title film of No Way Home.
oh, i politely disagree. Norman Osborn had a definate arc as well...From a relatively well-meaning but success-focused at the expense of family business tycoon, to the Jekyll and Hyde persona of the Goblin, who was his drive to succeed amped to literally insane levels...his depiction in this film in the brief, (how brief is up for discussion) time where the Goblin let Norman drive for awhile was a facinating counterpoint to once his dark half took control again...just like in the first movie, he had a GREAT respect for intilllect (remeber the scene in the first movie where he was so impressed by Peter, who clearly had the brilliance to succeed...after chastising his son, who did NOT...shades of the Goblin peeking through) and proceeded to live up to his mantra "go for the Heart." Much like Otto, Norman MEANT well..but accidentally shackled himself to a monster...albiet with a few degrees more of foolhardiness at delibrately using the serum on himsellf, wheras Otto's accident WAS purely accidental)
@@alexsolomon7991 My main problem with Norman is that he doesn't have much of a storyline in the film. He is just a here and there character for the whole title movie to tell you the truth.
With Doc Ock being my favorite Spider-Man villain I’m glad he got a lot of focus this movie. Him teaming up with Dr Strange was a team up I never knew I wanted
And Doc Ock is the only good character out of the 5 Villains has the best storyline ever for this film. As for the other 4 Electro storyline is very darn decent at best. The Green Goblin Doesn't have much of a storyline to follow. And as for Sandman and Lizard Man they have no storyline at all.
My god 2:54 I cried in that scene especially when the "Responsibility theme" plays in the background it felt like a class reunion seeing these two legends on the same screen again since Spiderman 2 back in 2004. I remember ditching school just to see Spiderman 2 haha good time.
When Otto said “you’re all grown up” that hit me because it wasn’t just Otto talking to Peter he was talking to all of us who grew up with all of them Tobey was my childhood, Andrew was my teen years, and now Tom is my Adult years
This was a great way to bring the character back without ruining his redemption from Spider-Man 2. And I always get choked up hearing Elfman’s theme for Tobey Spider-Man get recreated. I’ll always argue this movie was more than just nostalgia but when it is a nostalgia moment it’s nostalgia done right.
Speaking of redemption. If you watch this movie very carefully at the near end point in the film. There is only 3 out of 7 characters from the past Spider-Man Films. Who did redeemed themselves the most. And they are Peter 2, Peter 3 and above all Dr. Octopus. Plus they are the only 3 good characters of the movie who does very good storylines in the whole title film.
It's also a nice and tidy moment in of itself; of course Doc Ock can easily overwhelm and contain Electro, his tentacles were designed to contain a fusion reaction. If anyone was gonna be able to stop him, it's Octavius.
@@alastormedial Absurd. Remember how Peter defeated him in Spiderman 2? Yeah, he made him stab the electric wires and that pretty much took him out. Also, remember what Electro did with Octavius in this movie earlier?
The thing that makes it work is that it's not nostalgia for nostalgias sake. It wraps up a lot of loose ends for the older movies, especially the Andrew Garfield ones, but ultimately it all serves the main plot about the MCU Spidey. The older Spidermen never overshadow Tom Holland even though they are given a ton of time and development. It was a very well done trick.
In "Homecoming" one of the people MCU Spidey "interrogates" is supposed to be Uncle Aaron, and his license plate has the number of Miles' first appearance, so thankfully they are kinda thinking about him
they're incepting the idea. Like how at the end of the animated film, they have Miles say "Ok lets get this right. My name is Miles and I am the one and only, Spiderman!" since they did like 6 origins with each Spider person saying it. Then they have Black Electro say "oh man there gotta be a Black Spiderman." Classic filmogrophy, getting us ready for it.
"You're all grown up...how are you!" "Trying to do better." Those two lines. Just those two lines carried such a weight not just as a nod to the second movie but to every one of us who grew up with Tobey's Spider-Man. That line hit all of us right in the heart. Literally like seeing an old friend after so many years. I'm not ashamed to admit I cried when I first saw it.
You have nothing to be ashamed of my friend. I too grew up with Raimi universe version of Spiderman. Always has and always will be my favorite live action version of Spiderman. The nice added bonus Doc Ock is redeemed once again and alive this time too. Respect to the legendary OGs for live action.
That exchange between Tobey and Alfred’s Otto is such a heartfelt love letter to Spider-Man 2. The theme, the “trying to do better” line. It was so beautiful to watch these characters come back and reunite with each other like this, it really brings all 8 films together.
_"Trying to do better."_ still hits hard. That line reminded Otto that his old mentee Peter, despite how much he's grown, is still that "brilliant but lazy" kid he took in.
For me "Trying to do better," means "My life is really hard but I'm trying to make the best of it," but instead of saying, "Life is hard," he says, "Trying to do better." Self-doubt and depression are part of the character and Toby's Peter has had time to grapple with it.
2:03-3:15 This entire scene was wholesome! Andrew Spider-Man reconnecting (no pun intended) with Max, who only ever looked up to Spider-Man and was someone Peter did genuinely care about (Goddamn Eels indeed lol) And Tobey Spider-Man with Octavius, You can tell how happy Peter was to see Doc Ock again. After their time as enemies, Peter only briefly saw Octavius return to his senses just before he originally sacrificed himself. Now Peter was able to have the chance to see the man he once respected again and Otto getting to see the “brilliant but lazy” student he once knew grow up to be a man
I love Otto's role in this movie because he was a genuinely good guy who wanted to use his science to better the lives of people. It only makes sense that once the arms were dealt with, he would side with the Spidermen.
@@BooBop1987 Alfred Molina seems terribly UNDERUSED. Fun fact : I don't think that it was his 1st role. I saw him as the Peruvian guide who got Indiana Jones to toss the golden idol to him in exchange for his whip in " Raiders ".
My parents divorced when I was 9. My two younger brothers were 8 and 6. We were brutally poor and couldn't even afford cable TV, so all we did was watching DVD's back and forth. My youngest brothers favourite movie were the Spiderman movies. Hearing Alfred Molina telling Tobey that he is all grown up puts tears in my eye, since I always think back to those days and wish we could go back. We had to bury my youngest brother one and a half years ago, when he was just 20.
I'm genuinely sorry for your loss. While I didn't have quite the same childhood circumstances as you, the Spiderman movies (the Raimi trilogy) were also some of the only DVD's we had in my house at the time, and I watched them over and over again as a kid. In a childlike sort of manner, the Tobey McGuire Spiderman was my idea of a hero for quite a long time. Now I'm 26, and life has brought a lot of pain as well as a lot of joy these past years. "It's good to see you...You're all grown up" also hits home for me, as does Peter's "trying to do better line." To me, the scene is a nod to kids like us who are adults now and are all "trying to do better" in overcoming our demons and making the right choice one day at a time.
It’s amazing how many of the actors here are Brits not using their native accents: Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Charlie Cox, and Alfred Molina.
It's such a warm and wonderful sight that after literal decades of waiting (both in universe and out), the two other Spider-Men were able to make amends for their biggest mistakes. It feels nice that they had an unambiguous win for a change. MCU Peter was able to make the right decisions learning from his counterparts. I think the fact that Doc Ock also was able to be saved and redeemed is wonderful. Truly fantastic.
The magical thing about this movie is: Yes, they went straight for the jugular with the fan service. But they expanded on it rather than just vapidly and easily reusing the old lines/call-backs. Allowed for proper, respectful continuations or even resolutions to the stories, character arcs and interactions we knew and loved from the earlier movies.
You know, when Otto says “You’re all grown up,” while he is referring to Tobey of how old he has gotten since 2004 to 2021, it can also be interpreted to the audience because most people who saw this film grew up with the Raimi trilogy for those were born in the late 90s or early 2000s.
I was born in 98 watched Spiderman on TV. To watching Spiderman 2 with my Brother in Theartres to watching the Tobey's last trilogy with the family was amazing.. I still get choked up about Harry's death. God seeing Tobey again as Spiderman was a childhood dream being relived again. Gotta thank Tobey for coming back. The best Spiderman I've ever known
Spider-Man 2 came out in the 2004 so if you were born in the late 90s to early 00s, you'd have been a toddler to maximum 5 years who couldn't even remember the movie. It was actually a reference to people born in the late 80s to mid 90s who would have been in between elementary school and high school age at the time it came out and would have remembered it.
It always makes me smile that Andrew’s Peter apologises for not being black. Poor guy goes through so much, and still feels the need to not disappoint people, even over something he has no control over…
The theme of Andrew’s and Tobey’s just makes me tear up always. Also Andrew cares about Max telling him he’s not a nobody, but somebody to someone. Let’s hope Max becomes Andrew’s sidekick in the future
2:55 Ah, the sweet, sweet music, and honestly my favorite super hero portrayal ever by the wonderful Tobey Maguire. Growing up on those movies, even though I was born just after the first in 2003, was amazing. I was probably 4 or 5 when I saw Spiderman for the first time I can remember, probably younger given I told my parents in detail about how I wanted a spiderman themed 2nd birthday party, so you never know. But I remember watching that on DVD for years, same with the 3rd but didn't watch the second until I was a little older. But Tobey was always my guy, and he always will be, cause childhood is a beyond special time that will always be sacred in my heart. Spiderman isn't my favorite superhero, and I don't really know who is, but like I said, Tobey Maguire's spiderman is my favorite superhero ever. Thanks for making my childhood awesome. I'll always love hearing that music 🎶 😃
This scene proves that we lost someone who loved or favored us if we lose our heart, which is why it can be called reunion; Peter found Dr Octavius as the good man he always know ❤️
Otto telling Peter “you’re all grown up” can’t help but feel like he’s talking to us kids that were 8-9 years old back in 2004 when SpiderMan 2 came out. I was 8 in 2004. And I watched this scene here at 25. Thank you Marvel for this.
Octavius saying "You're all grown up. How are you?" felt like he was asking us--the old fans of the Maguire-Spidey. I suppose we're also trying to do better.
I cannot stress how, of all of the antagonists spiderman has faced over the many multiverse and over the many many years. Otto Octavius has always been my absolute favorite. Alfred Molina is my favorite portrayal of him and there's just such a charm he brings to Otto. He really is a good guy who wanted to do good. He lost himself to his science and to see him even for a short period, back in control is just my favorite thing about him ever.
For the past year or so there's been a really great fanfic series being written that basically explores Norman and Otto's survival and the changes that it caused. In the story, the villains are displaced and then return to that universe with dual memories basically. Well aside from the ones from Peter 3's universe obviously. For most of them it wasn't too bad, but when Peter got displaced and returned, he had 20 plus years of different memories to sort through. One of the things that was changed was Harry's fate: without Norman's death, he didn't become the New Goblin and Otto was able to build a machine to remove and destroy the symbiote which saved Eddie Brock too. When Flint returned cured a few years later, they learned the truth about what would've happened to Harry if they hadn't been saved. Near the end of that story, Eddie broke out of prison and teamed up with some crazy hunter guy who eventually killed him. Before dying, he warned Norman and Miles Morales that something was coming that Venom referred to as The Progenitor. The most recent story reunites everyone: by the time that Peter 2 returns to his world, Otto has come up with a transporter to bring them all back together again with 20 years of work and the help of that Arc Reactor. They even figured out how to restore MJ, Ned and Strange's memories without breaking the spell over the world (Happy was out of town when they did it and so he was unaffected) with the help of Otto, Norman, Max, Olivia Octavius (Otto's counterpart from Peter 3's world) and Wanda Maximoff. However, they're currently up against a being called Knull who seeks Otto's transporter. Knull is The Progenitor, the creator of the symbiotes such as Venom who sends them all across the Multiverse for his own evil purposes. Currently, the gang is scattered across the Multiverse due to an attack from Knull with the gang currently including the 3 Peters, MJ, Ned, Strange, Norman, Otto, Max, Wanda and the symbiote that the Sony version of Venom left behind which the MCU Peter has dubbed Edgar. Edgar possessed Peter briefly, but Norman got Edgar out of him. Since Edgar subsequently surrendered, Peter decided to spare and befriend him instead.
"The power of the sun... at the palm of your hand." I spoke the latter just as Tobey said it and I my tearducts just burst at the nostalgia. It's like a core memory is being rewritten, refurbished.
0:36 that "there you go" Has a quality to it i can only describe as feeling paternal and nurturing. Sure electro doesn want to be cured but given what hes doing with that power ock knows he needs this Its not an act of malice. He genuinely wants to heal Max
This movie completely redeemed all characters from the old Spidey movies especially the villains because they're actually good person that got succumb by their inner demons
I really like Otto in this film. Actually, I like everyone in this film. It's all done so well. It's like everyone working on this movie understood that a movie like this was one they couldn't afford to mess up. Couldn't afford to disappoint the fans that carried nostalgia from nearly 20 years of Spider-Man from Tobey to Andrew. Also, Ned being able to do something by accident that originally took Dr. Strange almost dying on a mountain to figure out? I wonder if Dr. Strange is going to take Ned in and teach him the mystic arts. The kid certainly has an aptitude for it.
Dr. Octavius is the one with the best ending here because not only he's been freed from the controls of the robotic arms, but he also got a device that holds so much power just like what he always wanted 🥺
I will always get emotional. Octavius, especially the Raimi one, is one of the Spider-Man characters I sympathize the most: he was just some guy who lost his mind to a failed experiment (I know it's kind of the same for the other villains, but I guess what makes Otto special is that he was a really nice guy and knew Peter on a personal level). Getting him to see Peter "all grown up" with a sane mind is one of the best things Marvel's ever done.

They kinda cheapened his redemption by making Peter fix his AI instead of him overcoming it himself by sheer will
The thing that makes it work is that it's not nostalgia for nostalgias sake. It wraps up a lot of loose ends for the older movies, especially the Andrew Garfield ones, but ultimately it all serves the main plot about the MCU Spidey. The older Spidermen never overshadow Tom Holland even though they are given a ton of time and development. It was a very well done trick.

they're incepting the idea. Like how at the end of the animated film, they have Miles say "Ok lets get this right.

Doc Ock’s voice when he said Peter
I always like the Otto and Peter reunion since from Peters perspective Otto died years ago. And now he's there. Alive and cured.

One of the best characters ever who has a very great and unique Storyline.
Gonna cry?
"You are all grown up", to all audience who watched their first spider man movie as a kid, now in their 20-30, trying to do better and survive. Don't feel lonly. You got support. Someone has always thought about you and cared about you. You are a hero.
2:37 And thats how miles was made-
You mean inspired?
When we said you're all grown up it felt like he spoke to me😢. And remembered the time when I watched Spiderman 2 at the Glorietta Cinemas which I think the cinema house doesn't exist anymore.
I loved this movie. To me, this is Spider-Man.
Helping people.
Dr. Strange being impressed with Ned, considering it took him almost dying to be able to open a portal back when he started training.
i love when ock met with tobey, ock see tobey as a student who look up to him and tobey see a man who had changed for the better
I love that moment too!
" I just thought you was gone be black " LMAO 😂😂😂 JAMIE PLS. omg.
“Trying to do better”❤
As someone that lost a parent quite young, that line: "You're all grown up!" Gets me every single time.
A very different take on Otto from the comics and one we all love
I wish that we got that type of Otto from the Comics Books!
1:27-1:28-1:29 Peter‘s plan is working, what plan, he’s curing them
Doctor strange: there is no cure, they are already pure evil
I really thought dr Octavius would say “brilliant but lazy” 3:11
I can imagine it.
2:53 seeing them makes me glad I grow up watching Tobeys Spider-Man
2:12 andrew Garfield is right
