I upgraded the Sync 3 software to version 3.0 and had my laptop perched on my dashboard and watched it as I tore my console apart. Your instructions were perfect and it made the USB hub swap a breeze. Fired it up and it came up just like yours did. Kudos also to Ford for providing free software updates! Great to have Carplay again.

I did this last night. Besides breaking the sliver trim (easily replaced), the most challenging part for was also the hardest part of the vid. Thank you
So do you have to upgrade before installing this piece? I would appreciate all the help you guys can give me I’m not from US but would like to do it. Tks
Just made the upgrade on our 2016 Edge. Our Sync firmware was arlready updated to 2.0 so it was a plug and play swap. Took me I'd say 20 min tops. Spent more time cleaning than I did doing the work.
Just bought a mint used 2016 Ford Edge Titanium and these directions were easy to follow and I had Apple Car Play up and running in no time! Thank you!
I just bought a 2016 edge titanium as well and can’t get the update to happen. I’ve tried wifi and USB. Did you find a helpful video for that? I don’t have the settings some of the other videos show
@@oliviahutch17 my 2016 Titanium Edge had SYNC Version 1 when I bought it. I had to download and install via USB to SYNC version 2, then download and install SYNC version 3 and that worked! I could not go from v1 to v3. I found a site where someone put v2 on their Google drive and shared the file. I will put the link below. There is a READ ME.TXT file that comes with the download, be sure to READ that before installing. You will have to erase your USB and format it to EXFat. Then download the zip file. I opened the zip file on my Macbook using the app "The Unarchiver" (saved the unzipped files to my Downloads folder). Once unzipped, you will need to copy all of the files (Syncmyride, etc.) in the folder "Update 1" to your USB (do not copy the folder "Update 1", only the files in it) and then install that in your car. You will get a message that it could not install because there is no more space or something along those lines. Don't worry! That means you did the first part of the install. Now go back to your computer and erase those files on your USB and install all the files in the "Update 2" folder, then go back and install those on your Edge. This should successfully take you V2!!! From there you will need to download from the Ford website, Version 3. Unzip those files to your computer. Again, erase your USB and copy the Syncmyride, autoinstall, dontindx files and install on your Edge. You should get to V3. You will need to buy the updated dual USB part (I got mine via Amazon) and install that in your vehicle using the directions from this video to get Apple CarPlay. I hope that helps and good luck!! Thank you for this. I called ford and asked if I could add car play to my 16 edge. They said “unsure ask your dealer” went to the dealership and the guy said “you’d need to buy a whole new head unit” found your video and about an hour later and $57 I had car play. Appreciate it
This video worked perfectly! I was also able to pop the piece out as other comments suggested saving a bunch of time but if I had to go the full monty (which I started) your instructions were perfect!!!!
Just followed these instructions with great success. Like others, I lost one screw and I still have a 7/32 socket stuck in the dash which I hope to retrieve when I get another one.
Hi Jacob, I followed your instructions step by step and now I have Apple car play on my Ford Edge 2016 titanium. Thanks. The only difference was the part number. The dealer had the HC3Z-19A387-E and it works fine. Note: sync v3 needs to be done first , then the hardware installation.
Beautiful -- thank you for this! I was really nervous to try it, but it was easy. I think I watched this six times before trying it! FWIW, my center console trim came out easier than in the video. My only tips: Don't hurry, have plenty of light available and use the 7/32" socket (or tool) as specified. (Don't try to fudge it with the closest metric or something.) Hats off to you, sir!
Thank you for this video. Your instructions were super easy! I read some of the comments beforehand, and picked up a trim tool just in case I needed it. The tool was not needed. I’m really happy to have this accessory now. Thank you so much!!! 😊😊
Jacob, I watched your video about 10 times, ordered, the part, and went ahead and tore my Edge apart, and successfully installed the new USB ports. I did break the cheap chrome trim on the passengers side, but it all fit back together! I couldn't be happier with Apple Car Play in my car... Thanks very much!
Sorry to hear the trim snapped, sometimes those clips can be pretty stubborn. But, glad to hear everything else worked out and you're happy with the setup!
Thank you for the video, will get the new USB Hub for my 2016 Edge. A small correction, CarPlay was officially unveiled at Apple's WWDC conference in June 2015, and the first car worldwide to come with CarPlay was the 2014 Ferrari FF, probably a beta version, so BMW could not have had it in 2010.
Thanks so much for making this video! I just did this on my 16 Edge sport. Only difference on the sport is the fact that there are more cords for the park assist buttons so if anyone has an edge be careful with those. I actually did not own the correct socket for this so I had to run to the store ( oops ). Other than that the the install went very well due to how descriptive your video was.
This was super easy! Thank you so much for this awesome video. I was intimidated taking off the trim but it really did snap out and back in easily and overall the install was simple. I can’t believe the people at the Ford dealer wanted to charge that much for this.
Thank you for these clear instructions. Got the part, had a friend take the Edge insides apart and installed the new USB hub. He said it was really easy, thanks to your video. Appreciate you doing this for all of us '16 Edge owners!
Thanks for the outstanding video. I got the part for my wife's 16 edge as an Xmas present. Install was super quick and easy because of the detail you provided. Thank you.
Just wanted to say thanks for your video. Purchased the necessary hub on eBay for $29 and after 30 minutes of installing (I took my time), everything was up and running great. What an improvement!
Just purchased a nice 2016 Edge Sport with low miles (around 40k). The only thing that made me hesitate was that it didn’t have CarPlay. But then I found this video and based on the comments, this looks promising! I purchased the USB module (the dealer had it in stock). One thing of note, the part number ended with E, not B. Looks like they don’t make the part anymore that ends with B. Hopefully it still works! I’m ordering a plastic trim removal tool set from Amazon, as I’d like to minimize the possibility of breaking trim pieces when removing them. Should have everything I need and be giving this a shot in the next few days. Will post my results when completed. Thanks for the video! Hope this works! 😃
To close the loop, it worked! So delighted to have CarPlay, thank you Jacob for this video! I checked with the Ford dealer, and they actually told me it was not possible. I told them I had seen this video and the comments and it looked possible to me. You proved them wrong lol. So cool! Of note, I went directly from Sync 3 version 1, to Sync 3 version 3. (Another poster was saying she had to go from version 1 to 2, then 2 to 3.) I was able to go directly. I went to the Ford site, Everett’s my VIN, they gave me the firmware package to download. I downloaded onto usb stick and did the install. Again, thank you Jacob! Drove around today enjoying CarPlay. Only downside, when I put all the trim back together, one of the panels isn’t hugging as firmly as before. There’s a gap so I can see some of the internals now. I took the piece off and reattached it several times and can’t get the gap to go away. Maybe the gap was already there and I hadn’t noticed it, or maybe the the panel piece bent a little when removing it? Not sure. I’ll probably try taking it apart again on another day to see if there’s a clip I’m missing or something.
I appreciate all this guy did to replace the USB ports, but there is a much simpler way. Take a long handle flat head screw driver and slide it under the left side of the flange on the USB module and twist the screw driver working your way up and down the left side. After a few times of doing this the unit pops out some and I was able to pull it out, unplug it, and plug in the new USB module and snap it back in place, took just a few minutes. Much simpler than taking the dash apart.
Thanks for posting this, got it done. I did what others did and broke the silver trim on the side on the drivers side and lost a screw. But I’m fine with that because it’s all up and working
Thank you for the video. I have a question - I just got a used 2016 Edge and updated the sync to sync 3. Android Auto works but Apple Carplay does not work. When I plug an iPhone in, it shows it is connected but no Carplay icon shows up like the Android Auto icon. This iphone works in my other vehicle so I know Carplay is not locked. Do you think I need to change the USB like you did on the video?
Hi Jacob. Thanks for your very usefull video. I live in CR and I bought the Ford Edge here. I already downloaded the sync 3 version and bought the replacement part you recommended but the car shows a message saying that the usb is not compatible with the system. Any ideas on what else should I do to make it run ?
Awesome video! Question for the group: I have a 16 Edge Sport with SYNC version 1. I noted my XM radio will not go beyond ch. 184. How can I upgrade this system? Pls advise, thanks!
I am about to do this upgrade, hopefully today but no later than tomorrow however in a Taurus. Its a much easier upgrade in my car though, just a small trim panel a little larger than the USB ports has to be pulled out in order to remove the USB ports and connections. Should take me about 5 minutes. Removing those huge pieces looked like a pain. If mine was so involved I probably would not bother with it. You get a lot of the functionality with Sync 3 anyway.
davva360 Yeah, those panels were a little more challenging to remove than expected. I’ve removed dashes in trucks, sedans, and vintage muscle cars for one reason or another, and the retaining clips on the Edge are some of the most stubborn I’ve dealt with. Some people just pry out that USB adapter as a result, but I was wanting something less destructive. It just takes a lot longer....
My mom had sync 3 version 1.0. Since it is only version 1.0, would she still be able to get Apple CarPlay by replacing the USB hum or would she also need to pay to upgrade the version of the CarPlay?
i ordered hc3z-19A387-b and hc3t-14f014-bc came. every site i see has shows hc3t-14f014-bc and the box shows the other part... Does the car have to be on for carplay to work. i installed the other part number. carplay didn't work, so i took it apart
The engine doesn’t need to be on, but the radio does. I’m not sure what the difference is between those two parts. I’ve been trying to find something authoritative and haven’t found anything one way or the other if it works. Make certain you have the latest firmware in your car too. CarPlay is only supported Sync 3 version 2.0 or higher. You can download it direct from Ford through their Owners website. Also, just to cover all the bases here, CarPlay will only work when the phone is plugged in through USB. Hope this helps!
Wow, fantastic video! Spot on and got my 2016 Edge completely set up for Apple CarPlay. So pumped that this was out here and so accurate! Thank you :-)
Just got my Carplay USB Hub for my '16 Edge SEL 3.5L today and I did it the more simpler way by using a plastic pry tool and getting it out that way. It didn't break any clips off of the old one at all and no taking apart the console :) If anyone is looking for the part I bought it on eBay here: www.ebay.com/p/Ford-Controller-HC3Z-19A387-B/1183339748 Worked PERFECTLY! Unplugged the old and in with the new and it recognized it right away!
Just ordered that part for my 2016 titanium, hopefully will be able to do it with a flat screwdriver or prybar as well since I'd rather not take about my console and brake.
John Seguin It was a pain in the ass but I ended up just using a small pry-bar. Minor scratches on the plastic housing but hardly noticeable. I also bought the one he linked in the description and it works perfectly.
I have a 2015 Ford Edge and was able to update to Sync three, but i want to know if i buy the USB module listed above will it give me the Apple Car play features?
Hmm...I don’t know. It comes standard on 2017 or newer Fords, and Ford says it’s available via software/hardware update on the 2016 ones. I can’t find anything saying that it will work on a 2015 model. Nothing says you can’t try it, but no guarantees.
You can swap the USB hubs, but it won’t do anything for you. The Sync software is different between 2015 and 2016. 2015 Fords and older had either Sync 2 or MyFordTouch. 2016 and newer came with Sync3, which has AndroidAuto and CarPlay (after a firmware update.) You *can* upgrade to Sync3 with an aftermarket kit, but I think it’s a pretty costly thing. Haven’t researched it.
@@JacobMast , thanks for getting back with me. It looks like the upgrade kit for my car runs between $1,000 and $1,500 which puts it out of my price range. I'll continue using Waze on my phone. Thanks again.

HI. thanks for the video. but surely the connection is only done with the cable?
thank you works well without any programming
Thank you. Followed your directions and it worked perfectly.
idk why i laughed when he said " this just pops off.... *struggling* like so!" lol
Hola a todos! Este mismo proceso serviría para un Ford Focus del 2015? Gracias!
Worked perfect. Thanks for making this tutorial
Great tutorial, worked like a charm!
Thanks. This video is excellent. Anyone can do this with little experience
Whats the link for the firmware update?
Great video, I’m trying to do the same thing on my 2016 Lincoln MKX, any tips on that model?
This can all be done in 30 seconds by popping the old USB hub out without taking anything apart.
How to do it on edge 2016?
This video was very helpful and the ordered part from amazon only costs $45 now.
Even better!!
do you have the link!?
Thank you so much for this tutorial you made it so easy and it worked so well.
Hi Jacob. Thanks for your very usefull video. I live in CR and I bought the Ford Edge here. I already downloaded the sync 3 version and bought the replacement part you recommended but the car shows a message saying that the usb is not compatible with the system. Any ideas on what else should I do to make it run ?
Hi my friend how can I get that module can you please give me the link?
Thank you! This was extremely helpful and our trim actually came off easier than yours so was even quicker.
Hi my Ford Edge 2016 has Sync not Sync 3. Will it work?
This video is perfect. Thank you, it was a great help!
Awesome video! Question for the group: I have a 16 Edge Sport with SYNC version 1. I noted my XM radio will not go beyond ch. 184. How can I upgrade this system? Pls advise, thanks!
What is the part number for the upgrade
Thanks this made it very easy .
Thank you so much for this! Super easy
I have a 16 for edge but my screen is much smaller will that piece work?
You can skip tearing your center console apart and just pop the usb hub out by using a skinny flathead to pop it out
Awesome, Will this work for 2015 Edge SEL ?
Thanks for the video. Do you know if this can be done on a 2015 edge?
Also interested in 2015 edge titanium. Anyone know if part is compatible?
@@reincarn8tionI haven’t tried it yet.
I have A question.Would that work for a 2015 Ford edge titanium?
Does it conect wirelessly or you have to wire it?
Will this work for my 2015 Edge?
Mine Worked great. Thanks 👍
Dude, thank you so much!
Hi I have an edge sel 2016 sync 2, is it possible to upgrade if I purchase this part from Ford
I'm guessing this new part isn't required for Android Auto. Can you confirm?
My mom had sync 3 version 1.0. Since it is only version 1.0, would she still be able to get Apple CarPlay by replacing the USB hum or would she also need to pay to upgrade the version of the CarPlay?
Will this work for 2015 edge with Titanium trim package?
i ordered hc3z-19A387-b and hc3t-14f014-bc came. every site i see has shows hc3t-14f014-bc and the box shows the other part...
How do u take out the screws?? My wrench wont fit in the area at all. This is my only issue
Wow, fantastic video! Spot on and got my 2016 Edge completely set up for Apple CarPlay. So pumped that this was out here and so accurate!
Thank you :-)
Does this work on a 2015 Ford Edge ?
How long was the software update?
Is there a way to get Apple CarPlay on the sync 2 models ?
Does this work for ford edge sport 2015 ?
Just got my Carplay USB Hub for my '16 Edge SEL 3.5L today and I did it the more simpler way by using a plastic pry tool and getting it out that way. It didn't break any clips off of the old one at all and no taking apart the console :)
If anyone is looking for the part I bought it on eBay here:
www.ebay.com/p/Ford-Controller-HC3Z-19A387-B/1183339748
Worked PERFECTLY! Unplugged the old and in with the new and it recognized it right away!
Just ordered that part for my 2016 titanium, hopefully will be able to do it with a flat screwdriver or prybar as well since I'd rather not take about my console and brake.
@@sspain2149 Were you able to get it out with a screwdriver without issue?
John Seguin It was a pain in the ass but I ended up just using a small pry-bar. Minor scratches on the plastic housing but hardly noticeable. I also bought the one he linked in the description and it works perfectly.
oEx0duSo If it works because I ordered one from Amazon and it didn't work for me
oEx0duSo I want to see if this works to order it. I don't know what you recommend me?
I appreciate you!
does it work for SE model?
Did it. I don’t see maps. Is that normal?
Are you positive you can't pry just the USB holder out without disassembly?
Definitely can't, but they changed the bolts that hold in the compartment, They're nut driver size now.
Great video and thanks. Would this also work for my 2015 Edge?
Went through the whole process .. still not working :( updated to sync 3.0 and everything! Any suggestions? Ford customer service was no help. Did you update the map/nav also?
Did you figure it out? I installed the part then did the update and still no CarPlay.
Yep perfect Thanks.
Is there anything else I need to do? My car is sync 3 updated to 3.0 plugged in the new part and still no CarPlay and I’m super frustrated any advice will help!!
Did you figure it out? I’m having same issue
@@kacycarpenter6600 yeah there’s a TH-cam video on here that you have to update the software to the newest version available and you have to use a usb drive to do it and plug into the car and match numbers up
@@OG_Honda_Gromdo have a link to the video by chance? Done everything like you listed above and still nothing.
I tried this and didn't work. I have a 2016 Ford Flex - I did download the 3.0 Sync software and installed it. Then I replaced the HUB with the correct hub (same part number and ordered from Ford).. Even changed my cord. No luck. My device is detected, but it doesn't start Car Play - any advice?
Did you figure it out? I’m in the same boat now.
I did figure it out. In order to make it all work, I had to go back and Install Sync 2.0 and then sync 3.0. I found the solution by googling the issue and found a link to a guy who made the update files. Search Synch 2.0 install for the Flex and you should find it.

I bought that part and installed it and updated the software but still no CarPlay. I also still have the same buttons as before, no new buttons.
It was a false update. I finally got it to work after this new update! 🥳🥳🥳
