Maybe you haven't been following her career. I have been a fan since her first album when it was only available on cassette and vinyl so you had to listen to EVERY song and, in my case, learn all of the words. I've seen her on tour with Cher but TBH, I was more excited about seeing her. She is very well regarded in the entertainment industry across a variety of spectrums. She has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She is only an Oscar away from being an EGOT. If she wanted, she could most likely get a residency in Vegas at a snap of a finger. Her more well-known contemporaries wish that they had the accolades, credentials and respect she has earned.
This is the best, the deepest and most musically profound cover of Blue I have ever listened to. It's as heartbreaking as it is gorgeously ethereal. I wish that Lauper would record an entire album of Joni Mitchell covers.
her voice is certainly beautiful..and over the years she has become a fantastic exceptional singer..there are no adjectives for Mrs.lauper..she has changed almost nothing and has become more wonderful every year 🥰🥰❤️
@@Cornfield09 No. Age is absolutely relevant for a singer as the vocal chords change. I am a vocalist and a voice instructor and I am not disrespecting her, quite the opposite, soul boy. Why do you think that some singers HAVE to stop at a certain age? because they can't do it anymore. Just as dancers, or athletes, singers need their body, soul boy.
@@Cornfield09 Age is not irrelevant for a singer, as it's not for an athlete or a dancer. The heart doesn't produce sound, vocal chords do, and some people as they age, in fact many singers, lose their ability to sing. I am a vocalist who studied for years and I am not disrespecting Miss Lauper, in fact is quite the opposite. Age is not irrelevant for anyone, the body age, muscles weaken, vocal chords age. That is the reason many great singers have to stop at some point. I sang with the incredible Linda Ronstadt who by the way, had to stop singing due to Parkinson disease. We all age and that is not disrespectful AT ALL, it is a matter of life cycles, you soul boy groovy. I am saying that Miss Lauper sings now, at age 70, better than when she was 20 which is fantastic and a praise, not a disrespect, you soul groovy boy.
and THIS is why darling cyndi is the most underrated singer ever.. she is effin AWESOME... all that SOUL.. deep as the ocean. i adore you, lady.. forever.. and this song.. man o man, miss joni
Great song sung by our beautiful Cyndi Lauper..so under appreciated..should have been in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame years ago. If you can sing Blue, by the icon Joni Mitchell, you can sing anything..love you Cyndi ❤❤.
Hardly anyone can sing Joni Mitchell's catalog of compositions as well as Joni Mitchell herself, let's face it. However, of all the renditions of a Joni Mitchell song I have ever seen performed live, this one is by far the best, and Cyndi Lauper blew me away with her interpretation of lyrics I have listened to fervently my entire life, and only now fully understand, thanks to her exquisite interpretation.
I have watched this, posted by numerous people, about 6 times at least, and it is simply extraordinary. Cyndi Lauper has given an interpretation of this iconic song that is in itself iconic A masterpiece.
Goosebumps! This was the best performance of the night! Ms. Lauper owned this song! Love how Annie Lennox gave Cyndi props. Sisterhood is a powerful thing! Bravo Cyndi!
The first time I heard this, I literally was in tears. I thought her cover of Carey was absolutely amazing and hearing this cover, I realize just how talented this woman is and how under appreciated she has been all these years.
I was so glad when Cyndi came out to sing Blue - one of my favorite Joni Mitchell songs. Cyndi brought such depth, honesty, and true feeling - it was such a fantastic tribute. I was moved to chills and started crying.
Incredible! Cindy is one of our most under-appreciated singers, composers, and storytellers. She takes us on a journey with her music that helps us to transcend our life experience into a place of deep connectedness. She transforms this already beautiful song into a soulful spiritual experience.
No one can sing Joni like Joni but Cyndi didn't just sing this, she made it her own, and interpreted it in such a touching and perfect way. Made me cry.
Love this version. Cyndi brings her own New York street vibe to it in places, but she absolutely nails the jazzy ethereal melody. She is an amazing musician who can do a hell of a lot more than pop.
I'm playing these song from under my skin...I ,Love,Ya....41 Yrs RIP 4/21/21...Forever Graceful.I had a man who was my best girlfriend...We loved our imperfections..The Milagro Desert Project by James Whitaker many prayers,, and hope.. To make it to Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley affordable housing with my Boxer Pup...Blue...............
Not really a Cindy Lauper fan (my tastes tend to run in other directions), but she moved me deeply with the genuineness of her words and the quiet depth of her vocals. Guess I have to take another look, right? So glad I didn’t miss what turned out to be my personal highlight of the evening.
Yes, take a deep dive into her 90s (Hat full of stars, Sisters of Avalon) and beyond work (Bring ya to the brink, At Last, etc.)... :) Have a Cynful journey!
It is always so nice to read that someone has discovered the greatness of Cyndi. Maybe you could listen to the other two songs of Joni she has covered, they are as beautiful and moving as this one. Or her take on "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" (the live version).
Didn’t she also have a tribute to the First Ladies of country music album? She also wrote the music for “kinky boots” a Broadway musical. She also writes a lot of her own songs. She is so much more than a pretty faced pop singer!
Phenomenal. True artistry! You can hear Joni so clearly, Cyndi is just channeling her. Incredible, as was every performance ln this tribute concert. The Gershwin Prize concert was far and away the best tribute to Joni's genius that I have seen yet!
Brava! Honestly, I had my doubts, but Cyndi did this song all the justice it deserves. Absolutely perfect delivery and phrasing. The poetry in the lyrics really hit me, somehow. Blown away! 🎩🎩🎩
Mrs.Lauper, you are fantastic, a wonderful performance that surprised even the honoree of the Night...Cyndi pure talent, simply the best...I Love Cyndi 🥰❤️
A stellar and deeply-moving part of a spectacular evening......both mean so very much to me in their music and all it has offered to me over my lifetime. As their contemporary and likewise a creative-spirit, Joni and Cyndi are two of my most inspiring Muses. So many blessings to each one.
Thank you Cyndi Lauper for your deep insight into lyrics, and for always uncovering our emotional human connection to music, and the soul feelings that your vocals inspire. Such a Beautiful Tribute to Joni Mitchell. ❤
I reember Cyndi Lauper from when I was a college kid hearing her punk and pop rock and daring lyrics in the 80's. I was sorry when she took time off for health reasons and personal life. And when she started up again, with new styles plus old hits, wow, that was so worth it, I was so impressed. This is the thing. A talented singer, musician, artist, can bring depth to so much good music of all sorts of styles and subjects. Her rendition of Joni's song here is fantastic, right in line with her other later and recent work. What a cool surprise, she is still bringing new life to great music. So I can love her older stuff and her newer stuff and be surprised so many yers later. That's the awesome thing about music and performing.
Extraordinary. Extraterrestrial. Both song and singer. I listen to it again and again and it gives me the gift of leaving the daily world for a few moments and go to a place where being human is a magnificent experience.
Everything I would like to write is already written, when I was young, she made me jump around the house like a crazy person, today I simply worship her as my goddess... She will always be my goddess!💞
Cyndi has never received the full respect her talent and artistry deserves. Just amazing. Goosebumps

do NOT miss Cindi's "Carey" at the other tribute.. just unbelievable
I thought ecactly the same about an album.
That is a wonderful idea!
@@edwardharley9 I recommend Carey also. She and the band=goosebumps over and over
She's 70 in a few months and still serving such great moments
The most magnificent rendition of Blue. Cindy Lauper sings, at age 70, even better than when she was 20. Purest talent.
her voice is certainly beautiful..and over the years she has become a fantastic exceptional singer..there are no adjectives for Mrs.lauper..she has changed almost nothing and has become more wonderful every year 🥰🥰❤️
age is irrelevant and disrespectful. She sings beautifully from her heart. ❤️

This is her 3rd tribute song to Joni. She never disappoints to transport us to another place. I feel so sorry for those who don't feel her magic.
Other than this and Carey what was the other Joni cover Cyndi performed?
Last year she performed Magdalene Laundries during a Musicares event 🎉honoring Joni.
I couldn't agree more. Cyndi's performance of Carey is phenomenal and on another level
I've only seen Carey and this. And both times, she stole the show.
She should do a cover album, honestly. I’ve always loved Cindy’s voice but haven’t loved her material. But she’s a great & unique interpreter of Joni.
Cyndi covers Joni like no one else.

*Cyndi Lauper to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame 2023!*
You mean she is not in already?!?!?!?!?!?! Cyndi should have been in a loooooong time ago.
Every time I’ve heard Cyndi sing one of Joni’s songs it’s extraordinary. The emotional depth is something else. 💙

Moving. She stepped deep in the song and really understood it. Beautiful interpretation.

There is only one word for this performance: Transcendent.

Lauper is a legend because nobody sounds like her. You immediately know it's her. She has a unique vocal styling that is all her own.

Cyndi really got the song. Congratulations on The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
But they snubbed her :(

Fabulosa. Otra vez Cyndi Lauper deslumbra con una interpretación majestuosa de una canción de Joni Mitchel.

Cyndi's performance is simply wonderful.
Very well done Cindi, I loved it.🌹Wow, you just keep getting better. Every time I hear you sing.
I am in tears now!
Next to Joni Mitchell, Cyndi Lauper is the most romantic, empathetic Soul alive. PERFECT choice for this great song.
