This is such a gem: Annie Lennox opening with her powerful voice, then the delightful eclectic talent of Cyndi Lauper, the colorful and sultry voice of Angélique Kidjo, the devotion and unconditional loving of Brandi Carlile and the cherry on the top: Joni Mitchel at the end! WHAT A LOVEFEST! What a joy!
When singers of every genre can perform a song and make it sound great, that is great songwriting! The joy on Joni Mitchell's face is priceless. Beautifully done!
Chipping away, one bored millionaire handclap at a time. The second row on back looked like a quarterly earnings meeting table where everyone sits facing the same way.
I remember reading that when she was young, Annie was given the record _Ladies of the Canyon_ by Joni and was moved by such a great singer/songwriter! Glad to see Annie Lennox come full circle! Thanks for posting!
I read that too. Annie has always been clear that Joni was an early and lasting influence. It is not surprising that they are two of my very favorite artists.
Joni finally getting the full levels of honor and respect she deserves and she gets to see it rather than waiting til she is gone like so many others..
This is great to see, but I have to say Joni Mitchell has been widely acknowledged as one of the greatest songwriters since the early eighties at least. She's had that level of respect since then. There was never any danger of her being forgotten until after her death.
@@johncarroll5178 True. But only in a fairly limited scope of fans, peers and music junkies. The wider more casual listening audiences are now getting exposed to her genius. That's what I'm talking about.
Bolts of lace. Come waltzing on a bridal girl. Miles Davis coming through the snowy trees. I’m traveling in some vehicle. Not that one. And always that great giggle🎼
The LYRICS are more and more relevant! I see the vibe seems upbeat for the intense meaning of the lyrics! I want a redo by these same women.. ;) I LOVE these women.. ( I know they give a song a good vibe to shine a spotlight on the message... so..
Wow! What a great performance. You can tell that all the singers had a great time and really appreciated being there. A beautiful collection of voices and respect for Joni!

I'm an 80's kid, and I remember how big she was during that era, literally every other video on MTV was a Cyndi Lauper video.. Anyway, great tribute, to a great song by Joni Mitchell
What a beautiful treat and wonderful example of women uplifting each other! This what happens when you have immensely talented women, who are confident in their own voice and ability and have nothing to prove to anyone. Each brought their unique voice, shined and allowed everyone else to shine.
I'm a professional drag queen and a few years back I was invited to perform as Joni Mitchell at an annual charity event that recreates _The Last Waltz_ with area musicians each taking turns as the stars. I was beyond honored accept the offer as I know the profound influence she and her music has had on the world. In just this video alone - how could one room hold _that much_ fabulosity? And that ending?! Pure euphoria - I cheered even though I'm sitting in my kitchen and watching it on TH-cam.
OMG !!! What a Great, Great, Great, great Tribute to Canada's ..No.. the worlds Joni Mitchell.. She was My Mother's Fave artist and has a place in my heart as well.. Annie and Cyndi were my dream women as a teen and to see how both changed with the years as they grew and I.. to see them serenade such a iconic living person of the tapestry of Canada's Musical contribution filled me with so much joy... You know Canada has made it's mark in music in sooooo many ways and it's hard to name everyone Past and present.. The Burton Cummings, The Tommy Chong's (Yes he wrote a Number one hit). The Anne Murrays, Gord Downie and Lightfoot's...such talent . As Gord Downie sung we are the underdogs.. We are the "Darkest Ones".
Oh geeze... I was just feeling so old today, and this made me cry with joy! Lovely to be alive, even when they pave paradise..... Love all of you!!!!!!

Thank you SO much for uploading this!! I watched it on TV but tuned in late and missed this opening treat with Cyndi, Annie, Ledisi, Brandi and the other three beautiful ladies. Even though I was watching from home, I was standing and applauding just like I was there - I couldn't help myself! When Joni got up on stage and sang "Summertime", I was DONE. Same with Graham Nash's tribute - I was DONE. Seeing all of the pre-taped tributes from Smokey and others and then the finale with James Taylor, Herbie Hancock and all those legendary artists up there on stage at the end brought me to tears. Joni's music is part of the backdrop of my life. I had no idea she'd been through so much and was totally floored to see her still stand and perform in spite of all her health setbacks. I'm so happy she was able to "get her flowers" and much deserved accolades while she's still alive and able to enjoy it. Seeing her sitting and smiling in the audience while folks loved on her warmed my heart and made me think of times past when I used to play her music and that of several of those artists endlessly. Such good music and I've been blessed to enjoy it all. Love me some Joni Mitchell. ❤️🙏🏽💕
These incredibly talented women are having such a blast singing here! That makes it so much more enjoyable for everyone! The audience can't help but join in on the fun! I'm so jealous & wish I'd been there😁 ❤
That what happens at 3.07 when Brandi Carlisle goes up one octave and Joni Mithcell does respons with her so deep alto on the way she has always ended this song... I mean. walking up to The Artist and let her finish it like that!! WOW ! Marvellous. 🥰🤩😄
This is talent. Joni Mitchel, who is a gift from god, and her wonderful and meaningful music celebrated by these great voices. I’m from the uk and am immediately searching for how I can see this programme. I loved the celebration of Carole King. These are two of the mightiest forces in music. They wouldn’t say or think this but we now have the likes of Cardi B for young women to look up to. Thank you Joni, you have made, and are still making, a difference. This flight tonight told a key part of my life!!
I’ve listened to Brandi Carlisle since her song “Fall Apart” which my son introduced to me when he was in college. I love her even more knowing she encouraged Joni back into showing her talent on stage. Love you ALL! What a wonderful combination of ladies. Well done! 💖
A bit all over the place vocally, but obviously heartfelt. And what a treat to see 80s icons Annie Lennox and Cyndi Lauper rocking out next to each other !

She is very popular in England and appeared at the prestigious Proms for Africa a couple of years ago.
She’s amazing!
She has been on the international scene for a very long time now
I saw her in Togo 25 years ago and she already then had a fantastic style.
Dearest Brandi Carlisle, thank you so so so MUCH for helping Joni return to the public. We love her and we love you!
That is lovely. I love all of you too.
