My brother had never joined the army, but my mom was in the army when she had heard that he had nearly died. She came all the way from her military base to visit him in the hospital and make the decision no parent ever should; whether to take him off life support or not. The entire time she was being criticized and blamed by my father. My brother’s death was kept somewhat private, so you’ll never find any obituaries of him. He never did make it to his 20s, and as his older sister, every year of my life is a milestone he’ll never reach. Rest in peace, Páddy.
I'm about to serve in the military. This song is so impactful for me because no matter how great America is, the military is still failing in supporting veterans. And its important to recognize the effects of war and how much is affects everyone. We can easily coin service as glorious and filled with bravery, but there is so much pain on both sides of the war. I recognize the many issues that lie in the military, but I am prompted even more to serve to advocate for veterans and actively work to resolve the many problems within it.
Praying for you! You are so right my brother served four year and two of his brother have passed, but from war or anything like that but both have “self exited” this country is so backwards!
