@@VictorPM1550 It's true the finished album wasn't released until 1978 but this song was recorded at AIR studios in June 1975 under the guidance of a certain David Gilmour. Maybe Amber can get him on the Creators and ask him?
@@VictorPM1550 David Gilmour gave an interview on the BBC last week in which he described hearing Kates original home demo of TNWTCIHE in the summer of 1973 when she was 14. Hi Maria, we're the same age! I was a 13 year old Dutch boy in 1978 when Kate enchanted me like a beautiful good witch and I've been under her spell ever since. All her songs are so different but they are all unmistakeably Kate. She creates a new mysterious world and takes you with her on a journey in every single song. It is just magic and I will love her music until the day I die.
If you can't tell, this is an anti-war song. Just like in the U.S. many of the recruits of the British army choose that path because of a lack of other opportunities. But instead of the experience helping them get ahead, it will end up killing them. Their mothers might be proud when they join up to serve, but will grieve when they receive a letter from the army saying their boy has died.
@@normandavidtidiman9918 You need to understand when this song was released. Thatcher had just been elected and she was VERY interested in expanding Britain's "Role in the World" ie throwing British Squadies into whatever conflict the US was then engaged in... Then she engineered a conflict in the Falklands AND Thatcher expanded the role of the British Military in murdering Nationalists in Northern Ireland... Guess what? Some of those the British Military attacked, shot back....
So glad you did this song. One of the first Kate Bush songs I heard the summer I was 10 and it's remained one of my favourite songs. The first stanza sets the premise of the story: "Our little army boy Is coming home from B.F.P.O. I've a bunch of purple flowers To decorate mammy's hero Mourning in the aerodrome The weather warmer, he is colder Four men in uniform To carry home my little soldier" The song is an anti-war song. The main character is a mum grieving for her young son (less than 20) whose body is being shipped home through the BFPO (British Army mail postal system). I think :"Army Dreamers" is from the tranche of songs she wrote as a teenager! Not an older teen, but young teen! Try "Oh To Be In Love," it's from eh same era, late 70s early 80s.
At school we were reading "Wuthering Heights" for our English literature exam (O'level), in England when Kate was number 1 in UK charts with her song of the same name. For me and my family her music always sounds best when listening to it driving and walking in the English countryside preferably in Autumn when it's chilly with grey skies above. Then going home as it gets dark and all the lights are glowing from cottages and houses along the tiny country lanes. It always provokes a deep, almost magical atmosphere of enchantment and mystery. Very thought provoking and leaves me with a lovely warm sense of, " old fashioned", contentment. Especially if we finish off the walk with a cream tea in a pretty little oldey worldy tea rooms. Sorry, I got a bit carried away. Her music just does that to me.❤✌🇬🇧
@mw2739 Oops! I'm sure I must have the fattest fingers when it comes to typing out things. The amount of time it takes me to type out just a few words is crazy, because I have to correct so many unintentionally misspelled words. My chubby fingers overlap the keys on this stupid kindle! Kate Bush is beyond amazing. I probably have about 30 recommendations besides the songs you’ve done, but I also love Bertie, a song she wrote about her son. It always makes me cry happy tears.
In the late 1970i saw Kate Bush on top of the pops...and as a six year old child I was amazed by her...I grew up listening to her music...I have always loved her..she is my favourite female singer... unbelievably talented.. Please listen to more Kate Bush.....man with the child in his eyes... moments of pleasure...are just a few..
Great choice , I have loved kate Bush since 1979 when I was 10 years old and bought one of my first albums The whole story by kate, the album was on cassette to play in my vw bug and video I was 17 . she is such a unique artist with a haunting voice. i still enjoy her songs her vocals .
Suggestion -- either during or after hearing a Kate Bush song, you MUST read the lyrics. She is uniquely interesting not only musically, but lyrically.
why have I never seen her. This came out Sept 22, 1980. How did I miss her. Music was still my life then. I was a singer in a lot of little R&R bar bands. Some times 2 or three at a time. Never lead just backup. I can play drums wont say more then that other then I dont speed up or slow down keep that beat good. When ever I did play drums we soon found someone much better. But this woman how did I miss her.
Here in the U.S. she was mostly played on college radio and some commercial alternative radio, so if you were listening to either of those you would have heard of her. I discovered her by accident at 16 while driving. It was the song "The Dreaming" and I just happened to hit a station left of the dial and voila there she was. I remember the whole experience clearly. It was a watershed music moment for me.
@@airandmistyeah I felt so all alone in the US. I had a boyfriend who made me listen to every single one of her songs. I was hooked, but after him, I could only get kids to listen with me lol
The story goes that after Kate turned down the offer to support Fleetwood Mac on their US tour EMI America was so annoyed they refused to release any of her records in the US between early 1979 (after her SNL performance) and 1982. Never Forever the album was only available as an import - it topped the import charts in NYC where John Lennon was a vociferous supporter. The record company were probably correct in thinking that Kate was not prepared to do what was necessary to be successful in the US, She has never liked being away from home for long periods, She also went out of her way to produce music that defied genre. This was a problem with US radio. In the UK she was already very well known (the most photographed Woman of 1978) and financially secure for life due to her ownership of her music and her massive early sales (the 8th biggest selling album of 1978 and 10th biggest selling single).
The context of the single was the British Army's ongoing counterinsurgency campaign in N. Ireland, which had already been going on for ten years. The song gets banned on public broadcasting here when Britain goes to war. If you want another powerful commentary on "The Troubles" listen to The Cranberries: "Zombie" which criticizes all sides and is even more heart rending.
@jackieblue1267 No, she's English. You Irish always try and claim anyone of note for your own. No Irish person is going to pen a song about their love for England as Kate did. She's English thanks , born and bred in Kent No where near Ireland 🏴🏴🏴
Kate denied it was directly connected to Northern Ireland. She said she imagined the son had died during training manoeuvres in West Germany. The use of BFPO would not apply to NI as it is not considered overseas. She also explained the Irish accent used as fitting the tone of the music and connected it with her own (Irish) mother.
This song always made me so sad the mother is singing about all the great things he could have done because he has passed, she sings about her getting him back through the British Forces Post Office and the military wanting to give him medals and awards but its meaningless to her and useless to him because he's gone, and she rather have her son.
I think this might sound a bit 'fairground' because it's a waltz, in 3/4 time, quite unusual for a pop song. Her blinking is also in time to the sound of a rifle being cocked...
Absolutely, wonderful track, that along with some album tracks cemented my adoration of her. The official vid is not great quality, The 70s a decade of music in 60fps has a much better video up.
It’s written like a lullaby musically, but in opposition, it’s about a child never being able to reach ANY potential. Read the lyrics, which are a bit hard to hear. He didn’t have money or education, so joined the army, and “didn’t even make it to his ‘20s”. Powerful stuff. Kate’s a genius. I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS!
@@covfefecoffeeluvr5349 Another gorgeous song by Kate! I always thought of it as a sad ballad because there’s such a darkness to it, rather than a lullaby, but I did a little digging on what the song is about, in case you didn’t know. It’s about floating in water in something like the ocean where she’s all alone. She’s afraid, like the lyrics says, that if someone sees her, they’ll think she’s a buoy. And she’s so afraid that she just wants to go to sleep, but she knows if she goes to sleep she’ll go under the water.
Bravo! More Kate! There are so many songs for you to listen to. I think you'd really love The Big Sky or Hounds of Love if you haven't watched them yet.
One of my favourites too. In fact a lot of lesser mentioned tracks from various artists are my favourites 😮 There Goes a tenner another great track from the album.
Kate Bush is undoubtedly one of the greatest artists in Europe, inspiring countless musicians. Artists like Björk, Tori Amos, and many others cite her as an influence. Just last week, Kate released a new short animated video, and in a live BBC interview, she mentioned that she’s working on a new album. We Kate Bush fans are beyond excited for this upcoming release, which is bound to be something extraordinary. I can also highly recommend her last album from 2011, 50 Words for Snow, and her live album from the 2014 concert series, which was released as well.
Amazing song!! It reminded me of a movie called 'In Country' with Bruce Willis and Emily Lloyd about a young girl that just graduated from high school and is trying to find out about her father who was killed in Vietnam before she was born. I was one who couldn't do a lot of the things I dreamed about as a boy due to circumstances, so I joined The Marine Corps, it hit home pretty hard. I really didn't think about it while I was in the service, but circumstances could've ended my life before I even got the chance to live it. The day after my 20th birthday, a suicide bomber killed 241 Marines and sailors and 58 French military personnel in Beirut, Lebanon. I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in Cailfornia at the time, but I knew 5 of the Marines that died. Two of them were in my platoon in Basic Training, and I went to Cook's school with 3 of them. R.I.P. my brothers! Again, GREAT pick! Great Female Friday!!
I found her chan How did I miss this It isnt disco but it is not R&R either nor is it really classical but a blind of the three no one else does and I like it have done 5 at random Loved all 5 my playlist just got a big update
If you’d like a more upbeat Kate Bush give Rubberband Girl a listen about her girl trying to be more flexible so she doesn’t snap and have a nervous breakdown . She gets her growl on and sings in a lower register for part of the chorus and her dancing is even more amazing than in Running Up That Hill . She is so flexible and in sync with male dance partner at times it’s like they are one person . Also you said you would revisit Wuthering Heights because you looked back and thought maybe you’d been wrong about the song and didn’t really understand the story . Kate was watching a movie adaptation of the 1800s novel ‘ Wuthering Heights ‘and wrote the song from just from watching 15 mins of the movie . WH is a grand English estate where the heroine Catherine lives and has a tumultuous relationship with her adoptive brother who her father rescued from the streets as a teenager . He is the love of her life but they marry others and she dies shortly after giving birth . He was the love of her life and comes back to haunt him as a ghost which is what Kate was portraying in the filmclip . Kate redid the song 8 years later and the you can hear her more clearly plus adds some of her trademark vocal tricks to end of the track . You need to look up Wuthering Heights New Vocals 1986 to get this version .
Which is complete and utter bo'shit. Shes not rock and roll. Like the majority of the artists in there, they're not rock and roll. She beat out Kansas, Boston, Pantera, and so many others? No...I'll put it to you like I did a video on Rumble about it...goin on what? 3 years now? Place hasn't changed. And fuck Jann Warner and Rolling Stone Ragazine. Bunch o' hacks. Always have been, always will be. Popular music seems to change at lightning speed, but there’s one thing that you can count on, year after year: when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announces its next induction class, there’s gonna be outrage (and to be fair, some jubilation). The rage often boils down to this: “An artist that I don’t like got in, but the one that I love didn’t get in! Screw the Rock Hall!” There are more colorful variations of this complaint, just check social media. That’s natural: music fans, and particularly rock music fans, are incredibly passionate about the bands and artists that have shaped their life. A shared love for an artist can create friendships and communities. And as we progress down rock’s timeline, there are more and more offshoots and subgenres of rock and roll. In recent years, the Rock Hall arguments veer from “my favorite band is better/more important than your favorite band” to “my favorite artist is rock and roll and that one isn’t: why are they being inducted?” In its early years, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame subscribed to Rolling Stone magazine’s canon of rock history, which made sense: Jann Wenner is a co-founder of both. And Rolling Stone was never a friend to heavy metal, or even hard rock: they infamously trashed Black Sabbath’s debut; for many, that album is considered heavy metal’s “ground zero.” That’s why the Hall’s failure to vote in Judas Priest, Motorhead and Thin Lizzy seems like such a slap in the face. It’s not just that they aren’t inducting legendary bands; it feels like they’re disrespecting an entire culture, one that is healthy and relevant in 2020. With all due respect, are there festivals or cruises based around the disciples of the Dire Straits in 2020? (I don’t mind calling them out: if Mark Knopfler was so unimpressed with the Hall of Fame that he declined to participate in his band’s induction, I feel justified in sharing his disinterest). The nominating committee has been pretty strategic when it comes to hip-hop nominations. There is usually just one artist on the ballot, so that they don’t split the hip-hop vote. Notorious B.I.G. was nominated this year. This year, Jay-Z got in? He's a fuckin scrub....so many "acts" on this year's inductees? Should never be on the ballot for the next 30 years. Like what they did to Rush. 30 plus years and Rush FINALLY got in and has infinite more talent than anyone on the ballots. Place is a joke. Even when I visited, I was pissing everyone off. "Not rock and roll. Not rock and roll, not even close, nope, nope, nope, nope..." And I didn't give one shit fuck either. SGT Rock

This was great but you must must must do "The Man With the Child in his Eyes" a stunning piano and strings classic and one of her biggest hits. Written in felt tip pen at 13 and recorded at 16 I can guarantee it will blow you away.
Absolutely! The man with the child in his eyes is a must. Live version in fabulous.
The live version is stunning. Just Kate playing piano beautifully and pitch perfect vocals. If Amber wants a Kate live reaction this would be it but I would still recommend the full arrangement first and then the live one.
You guys make her younger and younger... 13? Recorded at 16? Kate Bush was born 30 July 1958. The album was released 1978, when she was almost 20.
It was when he first visited the family home in Kent and she played him tapes of over 50 songs she had written at that point - others would also end up appearing on The Kick Inside and Lionheart.
It’s a Waltz .. beautiful
👍🏴
Wow is fantastic by her.
You should watch HAMMER HORROR by Kate Bush. It's underrated gem.
Love this song... always makes me emotional and teary eyes
🇸🇪 here. Loved Kate since the beginning -78 Wuthering Heights. I was 13 and deeply impressed and kept being impressed since.
Check up
The Man With The Child In His Eyes and
Hello Earth.
Love Kate❤️ she’s my forever hero!
And..Sorry, as someone else pointed out… It’s not her version of This Womans Work, It’s HER song!!!
I was 10. How lucky do you feel being introduced to her so young and loving her?! Helped to shale my music choices.
Kate Bush. "Man with the child in his eyes " is fantastic
Very few recruits will die in active service during peace time.
But unlike in the US, Military Service in the UK does NOT open a path to Third Level Education and personal advancement....
Well summed up
She did not engineer the Falkland war. I was there, and I was injured. You are a fool if you think that!@michaelodonnell824
So glad you did this song. One of the first Kate Bush songs I heard the summer I was 10 and it's remained one of my favourite songs. The first stanza sets the premise of the story:
"Our little army boy
Is coming home from B.F.P.O.
I've a bunch of purple flowers
To decorate mammy's hero
Mourning in the aerodrome
The weather warmer, he is colder
Four men in uniform
To carry home my little soldier"
The song is an anti-war song.
Jay's almost ready for Laurie Anderson and "Superman"
Oh yes!
OMG can't wait
Yes! Also Laurie's "Language Is a Virus" ❣
And her "electronic arms... petrochemical arms..."
and/or "Sharky's Day"
At school we were reading "Wuthering Heights" for our English literature exam (O'level), in England when Kate was number 1 in UK charts with her song of the same name. Her music just does that to me.❤✌🇬🇧
Wrong flag love, you need this one🏴
@mw2739 Oops! I'm sure I must have the fattest fingers when it comes to typing out things. The amount of time it takes me to type out just a few words is crazy, because I have to correct so many unintentionally misspelled words. My chubby fingers overlap the keys on this stupid kindle! So having the UK flag next to the England flag is not a good idea, so they are now separate. Simply put, I just wanted to say thank you for pointing this out to me. Have a good rest of the weekend.👍✌
Kate Bush is a true artist!!!
Wow, this is the earliest I’ve ever been to one of your videos
Kate Bush is so clever bringing theatre to her tracks
The purest voice and a unique talent, an English rose , I love how she puts on accents to some of her songs, maybe check out The Dreaming with the video ( and lyrics) she sings it an an Australian accent.
A true genius.......musician,songwriter, choreographer, dancer.....her talents are endless.........to think some people liken Tori Amos to her!!!! Not even in Kate's shadow.

"VIOLIN" Wooohooo!!
Kate Bush is beyond amazing. I probably have about 30 recommendations besides the songs you’ve done, but I also love Bertie, a song she wrote about her son. It always makes me cry happy tears.
This is a fantastic song. She is such an artist and an incredible message.
"Wow" is a song of hers that you should do
Another one of my favourites.
I thought Wow was a little out there, but I really like Love and Anger.
You really must watch Breathing 100%
You should try her “Sat in your lap”. It’s crazy but brilliant. 😎🥸😀
Thank you for getting back to Kate Bush.
It is an old time waltz rhythm.. in 3/4 time.. kate smashes it!..Beautiful song....cheers guys.❤
Great choice , I have loved kate Bush since 1979 when I was 10 years old and bought one of my first albums The whole story by kate, the album was on cassette to play in my vw bug and video I was 17 . she is such a unique artist with a haunting voice. i still enjoy her songs her vocals .
Me too! She had slipped to the back of my memory, then in high school... "Hounds of Love!" And my love started all over again.
Suggestion -- either during or after hearing a Kate Bush song, you MUST read the lyrics. She is uniquely interesting not only musically, but lyrically.
Agreed. Plus it can be difficult to cut through her accent at times, and she doesn't write in simple moon-June-spoon rhymes that are easy to predict.
Yes but the videos!!!!
Wonderful reaction.
Ok, Amber, KATE BUSH with ELTON JOHN ~ SNOWED IN AT WHEELER ST.
why have I never seen her.
Explore all of her music! Listen to the ninth wave (the second side of the Hounds of Love) with headphones on. You are in for a treat!!!!
The record company were probably correct in thinking that Kate was not prepared to do what was necessary to be successful in the US, She has never liked being away from home for long periods,
She also went out of her way to produce music that defied genre. This was a problem with US radio. In the UK she was already very well known (the most photographed Woman of 1978) and financially secure for life due to her ownership of her music and her massive early sales (the 8th biggest selling album of 1978 and 10th biggest selling single).
Lucky you! Now you get to discover her!
The man with the child in his eyes, is probably Kate Bush's best song, great reaction.
No, not even close. Wuthering Heights, Wow, Babooshka, Running Up That Hill are all better imo.
J would most likely totally dig Kate's track James And The Cold Gun ( especially live )
Great suggestion there!
'Hounds of Love' next perhaps? Cheers.
Oh wow I never knew it was specific to NI, I thought it was more general anti-war. Thanks for this note.
Kate is half Irish as well.
@@kf9346It is NOT specific to N.I as Kate has denied such suggestions numerous times.
This song always made me so sad the mother is singing about all the great things he could have done because he has passed, she sings about her getting him back through the British Forces Post Office and the military wanting to give him medals and awards but its meaningless to her and useless to him because he's gone, and she rather have her son.
BUTTERFLY EFFECT!!! YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT.
the female shakespear of pop.....we did not know what was coming next such was kate's diversity.
Nice accolade!
I think this might sound a bit 'fairground' because it's a waltz, in 3/4 time, quite unusual for a pop song. Her blinking is also in time to the sound of a rifle being cocked...
You can't miss with Kate❤
That different vibe you're talking about is largely due to this song being a waltz. Listen for that classic waltz count of 1,2,3/1,2,3/1,2,3.
The Fog is an exquisite piece of music by Kate Bush. Highly recommend.
Heartbreaking song. Seeing Jimi Hendrix and Kate Bush live are the highlights of 50+ years of concert going.
Have you guys tried "Wow" by Kate Bush ? An excellent record.
I always thought it sounded like a music box.
@@donnabert I can hear that, too. I think it’s anything innocent to hit home about how when kids play “war” how little they are aware of the truth
Speaking of lullabies, I really love "And Dream of Sheep" reminds of a lullaby.
@Rainbow-yh6ov ok. Thanks that gives great context. She's always very thoughtful in her song writing.
Bravo! More Kate! There are so many songs for you to listen to. I think you'd really love The Big Sky or Hounds of Love if you haven't watched them yet.
Do Suspended in Gaffa next. One of my favorite Kate Bush songs off of one of my favorite Kate Bush albums The Dreaming.
One of my favourites too. In fact a lot of lesser mentioned tracks from various artists are my favourites 😮 There Goes a tenner another great track from the album.

Beautiful...moving...
Kate Bush is an absolute genius. Always new- always jaw dropping.
OMG I BNEVERE HEARED AND SAW THIS AND I LOVE KATE BUSH.
Kate is also singing in an accent on this track. She really is talented.
Y'all have come a long way on your Kate Bush journey!
So clever , amazing Kate bush
Thank you for an amazing reaction! Spot on! ❤
Jay, you’ve come a long way since Wuthering Heights! So wonderful to experience the evolution of your music appreciation.
There's a video of her performing this song in a TV show and I think it's even more touching. Genius.
❤Kate Bush!!! Sounds like a tune a music box would play!🎼
One of my favourite Kate Bush songs.
Kate Bush was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2023.
In recent years, the Rock Hall arguments veer from “my favorite band is better/more important than your favorite band” to “my favorite artist is rock and roll and that one isn’t: why are they being inducted?”
In its early years, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame subscribed to Rolling Stone magazine’s canon of rock history, which made sense: Jann Wenner is a co-founder of both. And Rolling Stone was never a friend to heavy metal, or even hard rock: they infamously trashed Black Sabbath’s debut; for many, that album is considered heavy metal’s “ground zero.”
That’s why the Hall’s failure to vote in Judas Priest, Motorhead and Thin Lizzy seems like such a slap in the face.
SGT Rock
Wah wah
it took that long??
