I am Jewish and today is Passover the holiday when we celebrate Moses and the exodus from Egypt. I want to thank you so much for this incredible version of this beautiful song, it is such a joy to hear people from a different culture look into our culture and story and even do the Hebrew parts very well, thank you so much! God bless
@Alea Iacta Est and your point is? Real or not, it's the way they preserve and understand their history. Even if you don't believe in it, at least respect it.
@Beed_roonsun To be honest I am very non-religious, I personally believe that the beauty in the story of the Exodus (or in any mythology / history of a people) is the fact that the vast majority of Jews in the world tell and preserve it. On Passover, the story of the Exodus is told in a permanent and ancient version called the Haggadah, meaning of the word is to say or tell. The matter is the current common existence of an entire people, every year everywhere in the world for more than two thousand years it is told from father to son, in my eyes it does not matter if it happened or not, the ceremony and the holiday are the preservation of the common story. This is what makes us a people, not necessarily whether we left Egypt or not. And personally I think it's a great story.
This song actually could also mean a lot to us Taiwanese, since we all want to be delivered to the world without Beijing's oppression, and most importantly we want to build and get recognized of our own country without being threatened by totalitarian China just like the Jews.
@Half life 3 I don't speak for everyone, but the majority of us do consider ourselves simply just Taiwanese rather than Chinese or both. And yes, it's the CCP that see us as a part of its territory or a so called renegade province, which we strongly disagree with. Don't get me wrong, most of us do know that we are ethnically Han Chinese, but that doesn't mean we identify ourself as nationality Chinese, not to mention that our culture is such a huge melting pot of Chinese, Japanese, Southeast Asian and a bit of European.
@Lovely_Theaceae lol you're fine. Whats so funny is that we also depicted the communist as all vicious demons in our historic textbook back in my school time (especially that Mao bastard), so you are totally understandable too to have this image of all us Taiwanese are as bad as the propaganda which might have affected you. It's nice that you actually realize something different from what you've learned based on your past experience. If you have chance to pay a visit to this "sadistic" island, you will certainly notice that almost everyone here are against the image you've had. After all, we are all human beings in the end, despite our differences.
This sounds like what happened in the US, most Americans are of European descent with a lot from the UK but Americans see themselves as a separate people rather than an offshoot in another state. I hope Taiwan receives the recognition it deserves someday, preferably sooner rather than later. It’s one of the world’s most successful democracies on the doorstep of the world’s largest communist state bent on destroying it.
@Lovely_Theaceae You're absolutely not alone. Contrary to what most of us would like to admit, we get similar things here in America, too. Our political divide, especially nowadays, is because both sides are afraid that the other is seeking to set up a totalitarian regime to oppress the other side, and this is reflected in the media each side is fed. (Liberals are called communist, and conservatives are called fascist, even though neither side is either of these.) It's so hard to know what's real and what's just propaganda that I frequently find myself questioning my own values. Funny enough, when I first learned about Mao, I completely misunderstood and thought he was basically just like our George Washington: a man rebelling against an evil king for the rights of the people. Shows what I know about history. T_T
A song about the deliverance and liberation of people facing tyrannical rule from a foreign power who seeks to subject them to cruelty and degradation. This song is a fitting anthem to the people of Taiwan and may they be protected as the darkest hour draws closer. Long Live A Free Taiwan!

Daniella Levy Not that part, at least for me. During the first part I can't hear them, and in the second part they barely have an accent. When I read OP's comment, I'm thinking about the rest of the singers.
Their accents don't make it sound better; they sound great despite their slight accents. There's nothing wrong with accents! It means you've gone out of your comfort zone and that is impressive!

I hope to write down my feelings here. The day before yesterday, I attended the NTU Choir’s 60th-anniversary concert. Their collaboration with the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra was truly impressive. The entire 2.5-hour performance was non-stop and captivating, giving me goosebumps and bringing tears to my eyes. In the nearly full National Concert Hall, I could feel the tremendous effort put in by freshman and sophomore students through their club activities. It’s really not easy to sustain such a legacy for six decades. My favorite piece of the entire concert was the overture “Deliver Us” from The Prince of Egypt. Watching videos at home cannot compare to the impact of seeing it live. The choreography and chorus were exhilarating, and it was wonderful to feel the students’ passion for the choir! 🥹

People always ask why Prince of Egypt doesn’t have a Broadway adaptation and the answer is money. It’s the same reason that the Hunchback of Notre Dame musical never ended up on Broadway, that amount of money for that large of choir is not some thing that investors are going to want to look into. Greetings from Egypt 🇪🇬✨, Moses (peace be upon him ) is one of the mightiest messengers of God , God helped him , and I believe in him as well as the rest of profits like Jesus , Mohammed (peace be upon them all) , plus there are some right things in song , but according to me not all , because that’s the story of Moses (peace be upon him) in the view of Christianity or Judaism , but for us “Muslims” we don’t believe like that
I was also touched by the amazing combination of cultures going on here.

Water!
Straw!
Faster!
Mud and lift!
Sand and pull!
Water and raise up!
Straw!
Faster!
With the sting of the whip on my shoulder
With the salt of my sweat on my brow
Elohim, God on high, can you hear your people cry?
Help us now
This dark hour
Deliver us
Hear our call, deliver us
Lord of all, remember us
Here in this burning sand
Deliver us
There's a land You promised us
Deliver us to the Promised Land
ילדי הטוב והרך
אל תירא ואל תפחד
My son, I have nothing I can give
But this chance that you may live
I pray we'll meet again if He will
Deliver us (deliver us)
Hear our prayer, deliver us
From despair, these years of slavery
Grown too cruel to stand
Deliver us
There's a land You promised us
Deliver us from the bondage
And deliver us to the Promised Land
Hush now my baby, be still, love, don't cry
Sleep as you're rocked by the stream
Sleep and remember my last lullaby
So I'll be with you when you dream
River, oh, river, flow gently for me
Such precious cargo you bear
Do you know somewhere he can live free?
River, deliver him there
Hee-eee
Hee-eee
Brother, you're safe now and safe may you stay
For I have a prayer just for you
Grow, baby brother, come back someday
Come and deliver us, too
Deliver us
Send a shepherd to shepherd us
And deliver us to the Promised Land
Deliver us to the Promised Land
Deliver us

I am Jewish and today is Passover the holiday when we celebrate Moses and the exodus from Egypt. I want to thank you so much for this incredible version of this beautiful song, it is such a joy to hear people from a different culture look into our culture and story and even do the Hebrew parts very well, thank you so much! God bless
Happy Pesach!
Thanks to me
Chug sameach

They seriously do! Absolutely incredible!
i know right?! it's crazy how well they've done it.
They do!!!! They really do!!!! That is very hard to find, in a choir, that they will sound like the singers in the movie!!!
I agree the men’s voices here are fantastic. The women lack emotion somewhat, probably because they’re singing in pure tones and not quarter tones like the lament in the film.
This song must be really liberating to sing.

Their slight accents make it sound EVEN BETTER. As if their sheer skill alone wasn't enough, a "flaw" makes it ever better. Flaw Shmaw, accents are fantabulous!
Can't hear any accent tbh.
the original singer is ofra chaza, an israeli singer, so it's possible they were trying to imitate her accent!
It means you've gone out of your comfort zone and that is impressive!
accents is not a flaw, it's someone's way of interpreting your language. If you went to japan and spoke Japanese, you will have an accent. Does that mean you are flawed. all the same with anyone speaking English when it is not their first language.

i know how hard it is singing in another language coming from a choir member so props to yall
They had to sing this in English and even Hebrew for some of the sections. They did well.
Holy shit! The harmonies! The dark tones! The blending! The enunciation! The balance of it all! I'm absolutely blown away. This deserves so much praise!

People always ask why Prince of Egypt doesn’t have a Broadway adaptation and the answer is money.
It’s the same reason that the Hunchback of Notre Dame musical never ended up on Broadway, that amount of money for that large of choir is not some thing that investors are going to want to look into. Which is stupid. Because it would make them a lot of money.
Because it would be amazing.
It’s has a West End adaptation though. It’s beautifully done.

Taiwan's struggle against the oppressive mainland China reflects a strong bond with Israel's struggle against slavery under pharaohs during Mosaic times.
I find China to be complicated. Most people don't realize that China changed a lot in the last 22 years since they started the reforms. Freedoms have gotten pretty good and I have a friend who lives in Shanghai and he says as long as you don't talk shit about government it's pretty cool place to live. However the relationship between China and Taiwan is bad because Taiwan is basically the descendents of that nationalists koumingtang during the civil war . And China never gave up the idea of reunification.
