It's a severely underrated series, i'm guessing mostly because season 1 looks like an old playstation game, but even season 1 is great once you get used to the animation, and it really escalates both the story and the visual quality from there.
I try to convince ppl to watch the first 2-3 movies live action if the anime is unbearable lol and then start season 2 when the animation gets what we would call normal lol
I'm a manga read as well. Haven't finished it though, think I was around the Zhao Invasion arc but fell off at some point. Tried to watch the anime but it was very painful. So later seasons do get better?

Kingdom at the start is a bit hard to watch, because it switches between traditional and 3D animation, but the story and action is really good. The 3D parts were a bit hard to watch, but the traditional animation looked really good.
If you react to this, you will literally monopolize all its reactions. If there's an anime that can be called underrated, its this one. I'm honestly disappointed that there are no reactions to this anime just because the first season has bad animation, when the story and the fight scenes is up there with the best.
Thanks for watching Kingdom Openings I'm sure you would enjoy the anime (even though season 1 disappointed a lot of people because of the graphics) but afterward, it gets better. I didn't know about Kingdom before it appeared on Netflix. I watched the first season and the story captivated me so much that I forgot the rest. If you like strategic battles, epic fights, good character development and titanic battles, YES, I recommend this anime. For me, this is the best anime! And I think you would enjoy it as much as I do ^^ I know that my opinion will probably be very unpopular with a lot of people, but for me, it's the one that I prefer (without having read the manga) PS: If you choose to watch Kingdom, in my opinion, not many people will watch your reactions. Many haven't gotten any further than season 1 because of the aesthetic BUT if you decide to watch anyway; I will be there ! (Choose this anime please)
The manga is even better (if you arent a person that doesnt like to read manga, then probably not). Just unfortunately doesnt have an official release.
The manga follows a book of stories from the Chinese period called "Warring States" which ended in 221 BC with "spoiler" the unification of China, so you can expect battles of hundreds of thousands of troops which is how things are done in China. Also to the progression of the main character, in Kingdom it is quite clear by the number of people you have at your command.
"it just doesnt get enough recognition" cause the adaptation is bad. terrible animation in all seasons(the 2D animation is worse than FMAB that released in 2009), too many still frames, extreme censorship that ruins the gore and violence.
I highly recommend the Kingdom Endings, they're fire! But yes, like many others are saying, Kingdom is hard to recommend cuz of the rough CGI in the first 2 seasons, the plot and characters are great, just the animation was kinda subpar when switching between 2D art and the 3D CGI. They changed to a better studio with Season 3, so now it looks epic.

Fun fact : Hiroyuki Sawano is the composer for Season 4 and composed the ending track for S3. Will say that I loved S3 the most so far and S5 is looking to top that. God S3 had some amazing moments and dam can't believe we lost that guy towards the end. You know who I'm speaking of. That man was truly a force of nature, also slightly mad but who wouldn't be during a time of near endless war.
For the Villainess Level 99 OP, it is sung by Maeshima Mayu (former vocalist for Myth & Roid) and the ED is sung by the 2 of the VAs: Rina Hidaka & Fairouz Ai. as for the words: Suki (好き) means like Dai-Suki (大好き) means really like or like very much; the "dai" (大) in front means Big so literal translation would be "Big Like"; so its a more intense like/fondness. Ai (愛) means love and to say "I love you" in a gender-neutral form, its Ai-shi-te-ru (愛してる).
Kingdom has some of the most amazing battles in media. The manga is superb and there is really continous story with some really good strategis and outcomes

I have not seen the Kingdom anime, but I'm almost half way through the manga. I can safely say that the manga is absurdly underrated. The battles are always awesome, nothing that matters is ever a one sided struggle.
don't watch the anime. it's very bad. it has terrible animation, they use too much still frames including action scenes, and it's heavily censor and it ruins the gore and violence. the anime is nowhere near close to the greatness of the manga. the manga is not underrated. it just doesn't have an official Western English release. in Japan it's 1 of the top 10 best-selling manga. even when it didn't have an anime it was still in top 5.
Kingdom tells you about the struggle of a war orphan who decided to reach the greatest general rank in the Chinese army. This is during the era where different territories were united to create the first unified kingdom of China. It’s a really good war manga/anime
kingdom is one of my favorites, somehow never heard about it when its so much better than so many other Shonens. its like black clover but replace magic with armies.
Ooooh Kingdom, I listen to the OST of the third season more than I care to admit. When you watch the first and maybe the 2nd season of Kingdom you will know why there are not so many people recommending the anime xD it's tough. That is, once you get past the animation of the first seasons, the story from minute one is amazing, even today when I hear the narrator's voice in my head when I read the manga I get chills.
its heavily underrated its a mix of war drama and politics and the first few seasons have a lot of cgi in it which is annoying but it gets less and less the further you get into the series which is very good this is the kind of anime that has alot of depth to it and wil make you cry manly tears of respect from time to time
the level 99 villainess opening that you reacted to at the end of the video is by mayu maeshima, the vocalist of myth & roid who also does her own solo songs. the song was in a kuma video and when it got to it you said it felt like a lighter version of myth & roid so that would be why
Wow! I didn't think you'd take my comment seriously when you liked it. This is a severely underrated series. It starts with small scale battles then becomes big scale warfare with different tactics invvolved which is why I love this anime.
Kingdom is amazing, the manga is basically perfect. But the first season of the anime is full cg, myself i did enjoy it but some people wont like it. animation goes back 2D later but i think it didnt get the anime it deserves
i think another reason of why kingdom is unpopular is that the manga doesnt have an official translation even though every month kingdom is in the top 10 most selling manga in japan.
No one mentioned this but kingdom is about warring states china and it's the stroy of how qin shi huangdi conquered china from the perspective of a servant who wants to become a great general
I don't think anyone mentioned it but the music in the series is composed by Minako Seki (seasons 1-2, Black Clover) and Hiroyuki Sawano/Kohta Yamamoto (seasons 3-5, Attack on Titan). If you like the war and historical parts, I think you'll enjoy the show regardless of the lackluster animation in the first season.

It is definately on the lower end of the popularity scale in the west, despite it being a big manga in Japan for a number of reasons. Partly because of its age, partly its animation, and partly because chinese history shows have never quite made the same inroads into the western anime fans as other genres have. I confess I haven't really watched it either. Villainess lvl. 99 is currently airing. I like it quite a lot. It's mostly just a lot of fun to watch. However, calling it "villainess" doesn't differentiate it much since there have been like 6 "villainess" anime in the last 2 years. Villainess lvl 99 is by far my favorite of them,

Kingdom anime is an all-timer in my opinion. The manga everybody can agree already is one, and I'll say this again, it is the greatest war manga of all time. If you love action like "100,000 troops vs 30, 000 troops battles where every damn moment a commander or a general makes a move it will make you scream your lungs out" kind of action, then Kingdom is for you. Can't wait for your reaction once you get to the Coalition Invasion Arc.

The anime is very well made but you might struggle a bit with the first season animation, if you can power through it, definitely worth it. It's currently airing the 5th season on Crunchyroll.
The best way i have ever heard Kingdom described is a War Epic, its the story of a Chinese present and a child king becoming one the best generals and the greatest kings in China, during the Chinese waring states period.
So far and by far the best Anime i watched. I would recommend it for you to watch either. Probably it is underrated because not many people know that it exist. Season 1 and 2 can be a little difficult with the graphics, but story and fights compare it. The 3rd and 4th season are a banger. The 5th one i started an currently watching. Dont want to spoil but for me a 10/10.
Inuyasha is another popular anime that you should react to the opening and endings of. Also, some of the Hololive girls have done at least one anime ending I know of, the ending for “The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!” or Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! in Japanese. Nene, Aqua, and Subaru did the ending song, Tsumari wa Itsumo Kujikenai, as their unit Negi-U, so that’s what they’re credited as instead of individually.
Luke, YOU WILL LOVE KINGDOM A LOT!. Just handle the animation of the first season which is not good. But the story, the story OOOH MAN the story ROCKS!!!! The battles get better and better in avery season. TO ME IT IS ONE OF THE BEST!
yo, you found this, it is one of the best in terms of massive battles and strategies has a good story and likable characters as well, as long you get thru the animation for season 1 as everyone says. it also has a live action which surprisingly is really following the original source story.
I jumped on the Kingdom train a few weeks ago and I'm now finally watching Season 5!! I am a stan at this point. The ANIMATION is slick and polished, the OP and Ending songs are all 🔥 🔥 🔥 Being a Bleach fan and hearing Ichigos' VA as Shin since the beginning is wild. The two characters have tremendous similarities. I love the quick pace of the show in general. They do it sooo well... chefs' 💋 I hear the manga is better and has done well in the manga world. Hats off to the team behind this💯 This is the only military-type Anime I've seen and fallen in love with. I've only seen 1 Reaction channel on Kingdom. Wish many more would have it.

The one you almost missed is the opening to the current season. Great show one of my favorite animes. Quick no spoiler synopsis is a slave boy with the dream of being the greatest general through a series of events joins the military and the show fallows him on his path to general. Aside from the first season doing the set up stuff each season centers around a huge battle and all the moves and such that happen to lead one side to victory

I urge u to watch it . Because it's an underrated anime , probably because of the season 1 animation. But the story telling is at its peak. The season 3 of kingdom is rated above 9 in MAL.
this anime is not underrated. season 5 also has terrible animation. just cause they ditched the CGI it doesn't mean that the animation is 10/10. it's still sh1t. and the anime is extremely censored, and it ruins the gore and violence. also, the still frames in action scenes are very bad. this is not a good adaptation like Demon Slayer. it's very bad.
You would really enjoy this anime, especially since you frequently say animation quality or age doesn't bother you so much (quality DOES level up to anything you'd expect today). This is basically an anime version of an Age of Empires campaign from 230 BC. Very strategy heavy and it is feels like one large battle from the start, but it really does keep you at the edge of your seat.
An absolute masterpiece. One of the best seinen anime if not the best.... I highly recommend the anime.. Its arguably the most underrated anime despite it being one of the highest selling manga series ...
where do you see the seinen = 18+ with all this censorship that the anime adaptation has? the anime is not a seinen but a heavily censored shonen. it's not underrated. the adaptation is utter sh1t.
The happiness def has to do with how war and soldiers were viewed back in the day, it was something people looked forward to you'll see a narrative of it on vinland saga too
Oh yeah the battles are done well. Author goes quite in depth with strategy and tactics and what not. In the manga a single battle can last over 50+ chapters. I think its just not well known in the West because there isn't an official English translation for the manga. But in Japan its a consistently top 10 selling manga. I think it even outsold One Piece in 2020. The anime's a good adaption too. The CGI in season 1 isn't a big deal you get used to it.
I watched the first 2 seasons of Kingdom and it is great. However, the big issue with me is the great gap time between season 2 (2014) and 3 (2020), so I forgot so many things that it was hard for me to immerge myself again in the beginning of season 3. Same thing with Legend of Arslan, which is also great.
finally this is one of my favorite animes and it is so underrated I also recommend you check out the openings for kyo kara moah its another of my favorite animes
By the way the soundtrack of Kingdom is made by Hiroyuki Sawano and Kohta Yamamoto (Attack on Titan) and you should absolutely check out some of it (best probably would be "Kingdom-due).

Villainess Level 99 is fun. To me it is like a girl version of Isekai ojisan. Also both OPs are sung by Mayu Maeshima if you like her voice you need to check it out.
On the mood change for Op 2: It's by Flow. They also did Colors. Dunno if you ever read the lyrics to Colors, but they super don't match the mood. At all. Code Geass is one of the *darkest* animes I've ever tried to watch, with an incredibly upbeat sounding OP. Flow just likes upbeat music for no reason.
That's the sad truth of many high quality anime. Most will never know they exist because series like JJK, AOT, and such drown them out. Still reccomending you check out Shakugan no Shana(7 ops), Iron Blooded Orphans(4ops), Blood+(4ops)
JJK was 1 of the "will never know they exist" until the anime aired. this is not good adaptation like JJK and that's why it didn't succeed like JJK. i don't understand how anyone thinks that this is good. it's 1 of the worst adaptations ever made. the anime can't depict the epicness of the manga. not even in the slightest.
I couldn't get past the first episode of Kingdom, but based on how many openings there are, it's probably pretty popular. For recommendation I would suggest checking out Jormungand. It's an action anime about weapon dealers and has two great openings.

The openings are ok but if you want to feel the battles, the war and the real Kingdom I recommend you to listen to the OST of the 3rd season, that's when you say "ok this is what we are coming to". The OST is composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, the same who composed Shingeki no Kyojin.

I have not seen the Kingdom anime, but I'm almost half way through the manga.
I can safely say that the manga is absurdly underrated. The battles are always awesome, nothing that matters is ever a one sided struggle.
don't watch the anime. it's very bad. it has terrible animation, they use too much still frames including action scenes, and it's heavily censor and it ruins the gore and violence. the anime is nowhere near close to the greatness of the manga.
the manga is not underrated. it just doesn't have an official Western English release. in Japan it's 1 of the top 10 best-selling manga. even when it didn't have an anime it was still in top 5.

kingdom is one of my favorites, somehow never heard about it when its so much better than so many other Shonens.
its like black clover but replace magic with armies.
its a seinen so its a lot more mature.

Ooooh Kingdom, I listen to the OST of the third season more than I care to admit.
When you watch the first and maybe the 2nd season of Kingdom you will know why there are not so many people recommending the anime xD it's tough.
That is, once you get past the animation of the first seasons, the story from minute one is amazing, even today when I hear the narrator's voice in my head when I read the manga I get chills.
Not done watching yet but you should also watch the endings they are so awesome
its heavily underrated its a mix of war drama and politics and the first few seasons have a lot of cgi in it which is annoying but it gets less and less the further you get into the series which is very good this is the kind of anime that has alot of depth to it and wil make you cry manly tears of respect from time to time
kingdom started with low budget with CGI and animation less than 60fps BUT the story is great and animation and CGI gets better. would recommend it
the level 99 villainess opening that you reacted to at the end of the video is by mayu maeshima, the vocalist of myth & roid who also does her own solo songs. the song was in a kuma video and when it got to it you said it felt like a lighter version of myth & roid so that would be why
Wow! I didn't think you'd take my comment seriously when you liked it. This is a severely underrated series. It starts with small scale battles then becomes big scale warfare with different tactics invvolved which is why I love this anime.
Kingdom is amazing, the manga is basically perfect. But the first season of the anime is full cg, myself i did enjoy it but some people wont like it. animation goes back 2D later but i think it didnt get the anime it deserves
i think another reason of why kingdom is unpopular is that the manga doesnt have an official translation even though every month kingdom is in the top 10 most selling manga in japan.

It's such an underrated series! A pipe dream wish of my brothers and I is that it could receive say the Vinland Saga treatment 😅
Kingdom is 100% worth a watch. Personally of my favorite shows to watch. Storytelling and battles are top tier.
I don't think anyone mentioned it but the music in the series is composed by Minako Seki (seasons 1-2, Black Clover) and Hiroyuki Sawano/Kohta Yamamoto (seasons 3-5, Attack on Titan). If you like the war and historical parts, I think you'll enjoy the show regardless of the lackluster animation in the first season.

Kingdom is loosely based on history in Ancient China. It is definately on the lower end of the popularity scale in the west, despite it being a big manga in Japan for a number of reasons. Partly because of its age, partly its animation, and partly because chinese history shows have never quite made the same inroads into the western anime fans as other genres have. I confess I haven't really watched it either.
Villainess lvl. 99 is currently airing. I like it quite a lot. It's mostly just a lot of fun to watch. However, calling it "villainess" doesn't differentiate it much since there have been like 6 "villainess" anime in the last 2 years. Villainess lvl 99 is by far my favorite of them,

Kingdom anime is an all-timer in my opinion. The manga everybody can agree already is one, and I'll say this again, it is the greatest war manga of all time.
If you love action like "100,000 troops vs 30, 000 troops battles where every damn moment a commander or a general makes a move it will make you scream your lungs out" kind of action, then Kingdom is for you. Can't wait for your reaction once you get to the Coalition Invasion Arc.
The story of Kingdom is a fictional adaptation of the Chinese history period known as the Warring States period, which ended in 221 BC when Ying Zheng, king of Qin, succeeded in conquering the other states and unifying China. The anime is very well made but you might struggle a bit with the first season animation, if you can power through it, definitely worth it. It's currently airing the 5th season on Crunchyroll.
The best way i have ever heard Kingdom described is a War Epic, its the story of a Chinese present and a child king becoming one the best generals and the greatest kings in China, during the Chinese waring states period.

So far and by far the best Anime i watched. I would recommend it for you to watch either. Probably it is underrated because not many people know that it exist. Season 1 and 2 can be a little difficult with the graphics, but story and fights compare it. The 3rd and 4th season are a banger. The 5th one i started an currently watching. Dont want to spoil but for me a 10/10.
Inuyasha is another popular anime that you should react to the opening and endings of.
Also, some of the Hololive girls have done at least one anime ending I know of, the ending for “The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!” or Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! in Japanese.
Nene, Aqua, and Subaru did the ending song, Tsumari wa Itsumo Kujikenai, as their unit Negi-U, so that’s what they’re credited as instead of individually.

Luke, YOU WILL LOVE KINGDOM A LOT!. Just handle the animation of the first season which is not good. But the story, the story OOOH MAN the story ROCKS!!!! The battles get better and better in avery season. TO ME IT IS ONE OF THE BEST!
yo, you found this, it is one of the best in terms of massive battles and strategies has a good story and likable characters as well, as long you get thru the animation for season 1 as everyone says. it also has a live action which surprisingly is really following the original source story.
I jumped on the Kingdom train a few weeks ago and I'm now finally watching Season 5!! I am a stan at this point. The ANIMATION is slick and polished, the OP and Ending songs are all 🔥 🔥 🔥
Being a Bleach fan and hearing Ichigos' VA as Shin since the beginning is wild. The two characters have tremendous similarities. I love the quick pace of the show in general. They do it sooo well... chefs' 💋

kingdom is a treat it greatly underrated it people dont like because season 1 animation was bad but once one gets used to it the story is great , great characters and season 2 onwards greatly improved and season 3 is just GOATED
The one you almost missed is the opening to the current season. Great show one of my favorite animes.
Quick no spoiler synopsis is a slave boy with the dream of being the greatest general through a series of events joins the military and the show fallows him on his path to general. Aside from the first season doing the set up stuff each season centers around a huge battle and all the moves and such that happen to lead one side to victory

I urge u to watch it . Because it's an underrated anime , probably because of the season 1 animation. But the story telling is at its peak. The season 3 of kingdom is rated above 9 in MAL.
this anime is not underrated. season 5 also has terrible animation. just cause they ditched the CGI it doesn't mean that the animation is 10/10. it's still sh1t. and the anime is extremely censored, and it ruins the gore and violence. also, the still frames in action scenes are very bad. this is not a good adaptation like Demon Slayer. it's very bad.

You would really enjoy this anime, especially since you frequently say animation quality or age doesn't bother you so much (quality DOES level up to anything you'd expect today). This is basically an anime version of an Age of Empires campaign from 230 BC. Very strategy heavy and it is feels like one large battle from the start, but it really does keep you at the edge of your seat.
An absolute masterpiece. One of the best seinen anime if not the best.... I highly recommend the anime.. Its arguably the most underrated anime despite it being one of the highest selling manga series ...
where do you see the seinen = 18+ with all this censorship that the anime adaptation has? the anime is not a seinen but a heavily censored shonen. it's not underrated. the adaptation is utter sh1t.

Oh yeah the battles are done well. Author goes quite in depth with strategy and tactics and what not. In the manga a single battle can last over 50+ chapters.
I think its just not well known in the West because there isn't an official English translation for the manga. But in Japan its a consistently top 10 selling manga. I think it even outsold One Piece in 2020. The anime's a good adaption too. The CGI in season 1 isn't a big deal you get used to it.

I watched the first 2 seasons of Kingdom and it is great. However, the big issue with me is the great gap time between season 2 (2014) and 3 (2020), so I forgot so many things that it was hard for me to immerge myself again in the beginning of season 3.
Same thing with Legend of Arslan, which is also great.

thank you for reacting to one of the most underrated anime of all time. you watched the openings out of order, but you should try endings too, specially the 3rd season endings. for watching the whole show you should not expect too much from season 1 but the graphics and everything gets better every single season. its manga is Goat and the story telling is awesome.

Villainess Level 99 is fun. To me it is like a girl version of Isekai ojisan. Also both OPs are sung by Mayu Maeshima if you like her voice you need to check it out.
On the mood change for Op 2:
It's by Flow. They also did Colors. Dunno if you ever read the lyrics to Colors, but they super don't match the mood. At all. Code Geass is one of the *darkest* animes I've ever tried to watch, with an incredibly upbeat sounding OP. Flow just likes upbeat music for no reason.
That's the sad truth of many high quality anime. Most will never know they exist because series like JJK, AOT, and such drown them out.
Still reccomending you check out Shakugan no Shana(7 ops), Iron Blooded Orphans(4ops), Blood+(4ops)
JJK was 1 of the "will never know they exist" until the anime aired. this is not good adaptation like JJK and that's why it didn't succeed like JJK. i don't understand how anyone thinks that this is good. it's 1 of the worst adaptations ever made. the anime can't depict the epicness of the manga. not even in the slightest.

I couldn't get past the first episode of Kingdom, but based on how many openings there are, it's probably pretty popular.
For recommendation I would suggest checking out Jormungand. It's an action anime about weapon dealers and has two great openings.
they ditched the CGI they use in season 1, but the animation is still sh1t, they overuse still frames, and the censorship is absurd and it ruins the gore and violence. i don't understand how anyone thinks that this is good just cause they ditched the CGI. all 5 seasons are terrible.
The openings are ok but if you want to feel the battles, the war and the real Kingdom I recommend you to listen to the OST of the 3rd season, that's when you say "ok this is what we are coming to".
The OST is composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, the same who composed Shingeki no Kyojin.
