People tend to gain the association due to repeated listenings while watching an anime, followed by adding it to their playlist and thinking of the anime series whenever it plays.

@@skykillerxxx Yeah, and in his case, he watches the OPening like a single time, and then never. And usually not when watching the anime, but rather outside of the episodes.
For us, who watch the anime openings, in the anime, we literally see the opening animation in our minds, when hearing the song.
Best way to get these is to watch the opening every sitting, you don't need to include it in the reaction but it definitely helps

@@haseoxv9508 Yeah, they were, but a lot of them are kinda hard to guess because they are bland'ish, at least for me. For example I heard Haikyuu opening like 100 times at this point, but I can never guess it, it just dosen't stand out. But give me opening of for example hmmm... Shigofumi and I will guess it without a doubt, even though I heard it 2-3 times.

I just wanna say, excellent job recognizing Ranking of Kings... also, some of these are really hard to guess the title if you don't know it, because the most common name is the Japanese one, like, if you don't know Noragami, you're never guessing it. I would actually count Call of the Night as a win for you, because you did know the anime it was from, enough to be able to say a basic description. also, when you guessed Golden Kamuy instead of Vinland Saga, I was still delighted because I was just like "oh! my other favorite!!"😁
but yeah, I was following along, and I missed Demon Slayer, Haikyuu, One Piece, Bleach, Blue Lock, Darling in the Franxx, Rent a Girlfriend, Komi-san, Ajin, To Your Eternity, Re: Creators, Takt Op Destiny, Hanako-kun, Sengatsu no Lion, Yamada-kun, and Grand Blue. and it's basically because I haven't watched them... though I did recognize some from anime I've never seen, which I was happy about.
tbh, you're doing really well based on the way you consume anime OPs, which is only when you're reacting to it for youtube, and then only ever divorced from the context of the show. believe me, when you hear the song at the beginning of the episode every time, it creates a much stronger emotional attachment, and association with the show it's for.
I know it has to be skipped for youtube, but it's gonna pain me not to hear Mukanjyo or River in front of some of those Vinland Saga episodes... or any of the endings, _especially_ Without Love. they're such beautiful companions to the story. or like, with the recent reaction to the full version of Kickback? it's a lot easier to notice how the lyrics have interplay with the story's content when you get the two together.

It is normal to suffer. I do quizzes like this from time to time, and the worst is when you've heard some opening 100+ times on a streaming service and it gets stuck in your head, you think it's from an anime you watched recently, you suffer and try to remember that it's an anime, and then it turns out you've never even heard of it 😂

In my opinion, the flaw here is that you react mostly to popular/newest openings, and this kind of quiz, use to put a lot of classic anime openings, you would never guess animes like, Yamada-Kun & the 7 witches, Erased, or Golden time, in example

call of the night, it could be placed as a half point since you knew the theme and remembered the opening but you couldn't connect with the exact name. One way to improve in this type of quiz is to listen to the openings with the lyrics since they often refer to the series but the truth is that it is very difficult if you only do reactions. Even if you like the series and add it to your playlist, in the end you will only recognize the song and completely forget which series it belonged to. By the way, the Vinland Saga thing was sad, you literally started the video saying that you were going to start watching this series..😂

I have noticed that as soon as you put a time limit on guessing something, my brain just goes into dumb mode and all I can think about is the time. I got 7, but I struggled because of the time, even though I knew the songs and their anime perfectly. But that time limit affects my brain association every time. So don’t feel bad, Luke.

Hey, you scored better than I did. I only got the 3 (One Punch Man, Hunter x Hunter, and Spy Family). Also realized I'm always gonna suck at these because I like manga and I'm picky so if I've read the manga I'll probably never watch the anime. I actually recognized a number of these stories from the manga I've read.
March Comes in Like a Lion is adorable, btw. One of my favorite slice of life manga ever. I saw episode one of the anime and that was it. It was fine and even has a cute french song, but I just can't. I loved that manga too much.
That's too bad you didn't keep watching March Comes in Like a Lion. I can tell you that it absolutely does justice to the manga. Each have their strengths, so I totally get preferring the manga, but the anime has such fantastic visuals, voice acting, and music. I'm hoping to get it to win a poll one day so Luke can experience that masterpiece of storytelling.
For like half of the non hard ones, my answer was just "Hololive". I didn't recognize any of the hard anime or their openings. I really wish they'd include some English Dub openings on these lists.

I'd love to see you make these quizzes a regular thing, that way you might remember your frustration with getting certain ones wrong, and maybe even see some progress for each time as you both recognize and remember more and more of the reoccuring ones.
Also, if you chose one without the easy to hard thing you won't have that moment where you more or less know you won't get any more.

Oh, I made sure to count, *35 of those were anime that not only I watched, but never skipped the opening. That's my secret: association by repetition* 😉
Essentially, the song makes me remember the opening animation and the characters. Then I just need to remember what anime are they from. That's how I get the hardest ones. *But even with almost 30 years of anime watching I still can't get them all. So don't worry Luke. I guessed Bleach, failed on Komi San & Takt Op, should have known Grand Blue(Called it Blue Sea) & Yamada Kun (kept yelling Seven Witches haha) apart from that got all the rest. That's sort of scary to me but I've also seen ones where are extremely hard ones with popular OPs
Well, I’ve watched around 300 anime, and I only could get about 10 right, so don’t be too hard on yourself with it. It might not mean much, but it was pretty difficult to recognize the songs, especially with everything was in very brief chunks. No images of the openings can be visualized through the chunks, so it’s difficult to connect dots. Still enjoyed the video.
It's quite funny how deeply sad you were about your performance ;)) And all "prewatched" joking aside, I wouldn't take anything Nicholas Light does as serious or authentic. So, don't compare yourself, and don't sweat it, the video was quite entertaining. (at least for us - ha ha)

For the most part me and GoT got the same ones right/wrong early on (granted no counting the ones you can't hear due to being muted for copyright as I've not watched the quiz video on my own so couldn't guess it in this video) but started to get more right with (granted couldn't tell you what opening for those with 3+ openings though) then him as the quiz went on (granted any and every sports/racing anime I've no shot at as I'm not into those genres and even romance is a 50/50 half the time...I generally give episode 1 of all other types of anime besides sports/racing/music focused/ones that are clearly targeted to younger kids a try though). As for those I got right/he didn't it'd be (not counting those I got wrong or we both got right):
-Noragami Edit: decided to go back and watch your first attempt 7 months ago...this same song got you back then too lol. I definitely would've been disappointed if I missed this one as it's one of the few tracks I listen to to deal with boredom at least once every week or two while on the Porcelain throne lol
-Death Note Edit: like Noragami this one got you last time too...you're gonna need to remember this one next time.
-Fire force
-Bleach opening 17 (not sure if GoT reacted to it yet...can't remember too many reactions lol)

-To your eternity (English name of Fumetsu no anata e. Also a good anime though I mostly read the anime while only watching about 80% of the anime)
The one i mistook that hurt the most though was Re-Creators...thought it was Aldnoah Zero as I knew the song and anime but was too focused on Aldnoah to remember Re-Creators.
All the ones after Re-Creators I more or less got wrong though as I haven't watched them (most were new and outside of about 3 or 4 anime per season I haven't really watched new anime in the past 3 to 5 years, some I read as manga but of course that won't help with guessing the song lol).
I only got 7 right myself. It doesn't help that a lot of these anime I haven't watched.
I haven't watched many new anime other than Spy X Family in the last few years and I don't watch
much action anime. Although I do badly in anime quizzes even if I've seen the anime in them.
My memory just isn't good. I mostly watch comedy, fantasy, and slice of life anime.
The only hard one I got right was March comes in Like a Lion and that's because it's my favorite anime and
has been since it first aired. I think I would have got One Punch Man right but you figured it out before I did.
The only one I got wrong that I think I should have known was Komi Can't Communicate.
I got 7.... wrong (and the last bonus question had no clue), which were:
- spy x family (I did not like this opening so it didn't register in my mind)
- bleach
- darling in the franxx
- ajin
- re:creators
- toilet bound hanako-kun (this one hurt as I was familiar with it but couldn't remember)
- march comes in like a lion (this one hurt a lot as I really like it, and I remembered it at the last moment, but not fast enough to remember the name before it showed up)
the ones I didn't comment I simply have not watched and don't care I got wrong xD
You definitely need to immerse yourself in the longer versions of the openings. The clip ones really won't stick in your brain for long. And it's true what others have said about if you haven't seen the anime, you probably won't get it. Don't let it get to you too much. And just a tidbit about your comment on the cars stopping on your street. Not sure what things are like in the UK, but in my neck of the woods in the US it could mean several things. On the darker side, could be casing your street. Less dark but still bad, trying to log into unprotected wifi or hacking. And on a funnier but still happens one PokemonGo. Yes, I have seen people park there cars to play. lol Give yourself some more time on these quizzes. You will blow us away one day. :)

You should definitely watch Yamada-kun and Grand Blue. They're pure comedy, although Yamada-kun starts getting a bit more serious at some point. And the openings are gold.
