If you are about to dive into Monogatari you can: -Either watch it in cronological order Or -Watch it in the order they aired And all of what you saw? All of those openings? Are from just two seasons. Yes, each one is for an arc. Sooooo... P.S.: Sorry, I stuttered. If you want to watch it in chronological order, you'll have to watch three movies of one hour each called Kizumonogatari (Kizu = Scars, Monogatari = Story). A story about scars indeed, but oh boy... prepare to edit a lot.
the openings do switch focus between a set of characters, and like bunny girl senpai, each story line has a naming scheme. *Monogatari* Series has Bake-Monogatari , Neko-Monogatari , Nise-Monogatari , etc while bunny girl senpai has the naming scheme: *"Rascal Does Not Dream of"* , Bunny Girl Senpai, Petite Devil Kohai, Logical Witch, a Nightingale, etc..
All op:s are heavily infused with symbolism to the point that they reveal key plot points. But they are so obtuse with it that it is almost impossible to see until after you have seen the arc it is for.
jojo openings till season 4 at least are like that too, the first opening is kinda telling the whole part 1 plot if you'll watch it again after a couple of episodes, but until that point it's just flashy characters and symbolism.
The reason people say bunny girl is monogatari lite is because they both follow the same format of small arcs each focused on a character struggling with supernatural issues with the mc trying to help them out except monogatari is heavier on the supernatural and dialogue aspect.
@@ashenblood you aren't supposed to read them, you are supposed to pick up a couple of words while they are flashing in front of you to get the gist of what they say. When words are important they are on screen for much longer periods of time.
So, as you may have heard, the Monogatari series is told in a non linear way so Bakemonogatari while not being the first thing chronologically, it is the very first thing we got form Monogatari ever (both as an anime and as a light novel). There's pretty much 3 ways you can watch it: chronologically, anime release order and light novel release order (which is the one I'd recommend for a first time viewing). The reason they feel so different is cause every opening is focused on a character and their struggles and every character in the series is SUPER different. If there's something the Monogatari series is good at is definitely character writing.
That's because Maaya Sakamoto wants to keep her seiyuu and singing careers completely separated from each other. She has done anime themes, but as herself and not as her characters.
Ok, to explain it a bit: Bakemonogatari is only one season of the Monogatari Series. Openings aren't for seasons but for each arc with every arc being about a different girl and a supernatural problem she and the MC gotta deal with (similar to the way Bunny Girl Senpai does it) When people talk about stuff like Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari, Nekomonogatari, Tsukimonogatari, Nisemonogatari etc. then that's all the same series with the same characters but different focuses in each arc and different overarching themes per season. Careful tho, monogatari literally just means something like "story" (Nekomonogatari is the "cat story" for example) so there are anime with similar titles that have nothing to do with the series. When someone says or something is called "Monogatari Series" tho it is this one. There are plenty of watch guides so no need to worry.
To clarify these are openings of the first 3 instalments of the series you would watch if you were to watch it in airing order 1. Bakemonogatari (15 episodes) 2. Nisemonogatari (11 episodes) 3. Nekomonogatari: Kuro (4 episodes)
1. Kizumonogatari part 1 2. Kizumonogatari part 2 3. Kizumonogatari part 3 4. Nekomonogatari 5. Bakemonogatari 6. Nisemonogatari 7. Monogatari series 8. Tsukimonogatari 9. Owarimonogatari 10. Koyomimonogatari 11. Owarimonogatari season 2 12. Zoku owarimonogatari 13. Hanamonogatari In my opinion this is the best order. It is arranged so that the events happen in succession, so that the plot is better understood. That's why kizumonogatari comes first and neko comes after it, because the events take place literally after these films, even though the dates in which the seasons are released are different.
@@erlox1104 Stop making up your own orders and just watch the series the way it was intended to be released. I don't get this debate about "This is the best order; I made it up myself.". Why not make up your own watch orders for other shows at this point: "Uhh, I think you should start AOT at season 4." It's so dumb. The series was very intentionally released in the order it's supposed to be watched. The only exceptions are Hana and Kizu since they were delayed due to production issues. There is currently 4 seasons: First season, second season, final season, and now off season. This is how they are OFFICIALLY called. Moving entries from the second season to the very end of the story is incredibly dumb. Especially since the narrator himself, in the series, acknowledges the order the series is released in.
@@AbrahamLeyvaPeraltaNo, Novel Order is better as it has thematic consistency and flow. There is still mystery, but it isn't the forced and jarring mystery present in the airing order. Not to mention the airing order is just a mistake, it was always meant to be aired in Novel order - they just ran into production issues. This is further reinforced if you watch the official opening compilations - they're in Novel Order.
@@icecp6532 lol I only recommended the story watchorder so that the hanamonogatari that tells you about Araragi graduating from school in the middle of the series would be at the end
My friend likes to call bunny girl senpai "monogatari lite" because they are very similar stories, but monogatari is much darker and deeper in the storytelling
Good to know that for the most of them, openings are sung by the character voice actress on which the opening is focused on. Each arc is centered around a girl, and that's the voice actress who sings the opening of their own arc
@@smugsneasel Considering there's literally an installment called "Monogatari Series: Second Season" I think it's safe to say that the installments before it is meant to be the first season, mirroring how it is in the LNs
Bakemonogatari -> Kizumonogatari 1-3 -> Nisemonogatari -> Nekomonogatari Black -> Monogatari Series: Second Season -> Tsukimonogatari -> Owarimonogatari -> Koyomimonogatari (events that are happenening in the same time as all of the above) -> 2nd season of Owarimonogatari
Monogatari has a very similar plot to Bunny girl senpai, mental health issues of characters, mainly girls, manifested in supernatural ways, that our MC tries to solve/help, one after another. Each opening is then sung by the VA for whichever character the current arc centers around, with usually 2-5 episodes per arc.
The funniest part about your comment is that you explained exactly the opposite what Bakemonogatari (and the rest of the series is, except for the manifestations because of three cases). Also, it's not about mental health, it's about growth and maturity.
@@MrFreakHeavy I guess my comment more accurately explains BGS, since Monogatari's supernatural elements stem more from myths and superstitions and such. The similarity in their plots is more in the MC going around helping girls involved with these supernatural occurances
@@DeathTheKid4 Differences is Monogatari actually has deities involved. Also a real vampire to boot so while it does have similarities it's still very different. Plus monogatari has continuing arcs beyond the one and done resolution from bunny girl senpai. Like Nadehiko and Hanekawa, there's more but I haven't finished lol.
It's not like each season is based off different characters, No! Instead all these openings were from the same Season Bakemonogatari (except the last two which were from Nisemonogatari & Nekomonogatari) Basically each opening is based off different arcs from the season, where each arc is focused on a different female character & our Main Protagonist *Araragi* trying to help them with their otherworldly & mystical problems + each opening is actually sung by the voice artist of the characters (that's how they do that every season) At last answering your questions on how many Monogatari Seasons are there, well to be exact there are 12 seasons as of rn (including the new season that's airing at the moment)
Fun fact, Kana Hanazawa who sings the 4th opening Renai Circulation is a prolific VA who is in basically every show Sudio Shaft has made in the last 20 years. She is also Shirase, one of the main girls in A Place Further Than the Universe that you just started. She is one of my favorite VA's right up there with Aoi Yuuki. The shows and movies you have already seen with her in it are Suzume, Demon Slayer, Eminence in Shadow, and Stein's Gate. She is also in Angel Beats which it looks likely you will be watching next on Patreon along with Vivy.
14:14 found my new favorite Luke reaction! I remember watching the Monogatari series and enjoying it but my memory is very hazy. Would love for this to be reacted to one day so I can have a rewatch!
Monogatari has a bit of everything. It’s super cheeky, but it has a really really interesting plot, great characters, and poses really thought provoking circumstances. It’s my favorite anime of all time
@@a.s.c.i.9125 compare this, compare that you are not new to anything if you are a fan of it or part of it for atleast almost a year. Highest Maximum for new i'd say is half a year
@@ShinSnipes does my comment bother you that much you have to literally rage with million questions? I am just stating something that got my attention cuz its in almost every video and i am quite sure he is not a new fan anymore.
Fun fact: If you pause at 2:16 of this video and advance frame-by-frame, you will see the staplers in various NSFW configurations. That's not just for shock value; it reveals a plot point in a very subtle way.
23:38 they are focused on different characters, but mc(boy you keep seeing from time to time in openings) is in all of them(outside of latest seasons where he barely appears).
So as some comments already said, the Monogatari series consists of individual arcs, each focused on one charakter and their struggles. There is a different opening for every arc which is sung by the voice actors of the charakter in focus during that arc. (Also the arcs aren't full seasons but more like 3-6 episodes per arc. And about the length: There are currently a total of 94 episodes and 3 movies, without the new season that is currently airing) These arcs are linked, but in a non-chronological order, so each arc kinda expands on the overall timeline. The biggest link between the arcs is how most of them are told from the perspective of the main character araragi, (the "that guy" you saw in multiple openings). But the characters focused on in one arc also sometimes appear in other arcs. That's also something in which Bunny Girl Senpai is similar to the Monogatari series, the one guy going around and helping the charakter in focus with their supernatural problem (or at least being involved). However, Monogatari goes more into the supernatural kinda theme with actual monsters, ghosts and stuff like that while Bunny Girl Senpai tries to explain its phenomenons with quantum physics. There are indeed some rather questionable scenes in Monogatari, but nowhere on the level of the scene in that opening. The art direction is a really big factor in Monogatari. The series looks like no anime i've ever seen, with really abstract art, random text and images flashing on screen, abstract colors and just a overall abstract artstyle. So yeah i think thats about everything. It's basically impossible to gather what the anime is about from the openings, so don't worry about that. I hope you'll react to the rest of the openings too cuz they're all awesome. The endings are all really good too (and there are far less endings than openings) so maybe you could react to those too.
The full anime is (as of now, there’s a new season currently airing), if I remember correctly, about 100 episodes and 3 movies, so about 2 years if you watch only one episode a week. Personally I recommend watching the series by arc, and arcs can be like 2 to 5 episodes each, that way you can watch it faster while also understanding better (you wouldn’t forget relevant info in the middle of the arc because of waiting a week between episodes) And yes, these official compilation videos are the best way to see these openings, and this is the first compilation. The one you watched the last time was the third one, so next up is the second compilation.
@@danielgwynne7266 Yeah, I didn’t want to take those into account because I didn’t look into how long it will be, but I sure hope it is pretty long, more Monogatari is always welcome
LUKE!!! You said there's one more video, but there isn't, there's 2 more videos to watch This is part 2 of the monogatari OPs th-cam.com/video/cwOX9wSqMdg/w-d-xo.html This is part 3 of the monogatari OPs th-cam.com/video/JL3s82oBaMg/w-d-xo.html
I have waited for these...for so long!! Also don't worry about opening 5. It's symbolic. And not even of the thing you're expecting. It's a right of passage to go through Opening 5 and be like "What the fu-?" The song is a banger though.
It's been a long time since I watched the Monogatari series, but I will tell you, it changed me, and many ways I view the world. The story is simply brilliant. I love the symbolism, and how they portray mental problems and illnesses through their storytelling. It's a supernatural show, but the supernatural elements (monsters, etc) are linked with, and a representation of the characters' mental state. However, it's also extremely bizzare. It's definitely a story that's hard to reccomend to others, because of the weirdness, the young characters, and sisters. But at the same time, I don't think it would be the same if they removed it from the story. Another challenging part of it is that it's extremely dialogue-heavy. You will realize that you've just watched the characters sit in one spot and do nothing but talk for 45 minutes. A lot of the language and symbolism is also not easily translated from Japanese, so a lot might go over someone's head unless it's researched/explained. So yeah, definitely not a story for everyone, but if that's something peaking your interest, it's definitely worth checking out. The story (or, stories telling one bigger story) is like nothing else.
A few suggestions: 1. Hinamatsuri 2. Girls Last Tour endings 3. Space Brothers 4. Chihayafuru 5. Hajime no Ippo 6. Barakamon 7. .hack//sign 8. Kakushigoto 9. Great Pretender 10. Keep Your Hands of Eizouken
First, I would recommend you retitle your first Monogatari op reaction you did last year to Final Season Openings, and these to First Season Openings, and maybe change one of the thumbnails since they are almost identical. Now, to summarize what others have been saying, these openings are based off the first season, not just Bakemonogatari. Bakemonogatari is the first entry you are supposed to watch and has a near identical premise to Bunny Girl Senpai (Monogatari came first). It follows (in Bakemonogatari at least) MC Koyomi Araragi ( voiced by Levi VA Hiroshi Kamiya) helping different girls' problems that manifest as supernatural phenomenon. Monogatarari series itself is based off a light novel series and each season has a number of volumes (books), each of which have one or more arcs. The volumes have specific names that end in 'monogatari' (e.g. Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari, etc.) and is the name fans use to refer to specific entries. For the anime adaption, some might call these volumes 'seasons' as well, since that is how we normally distinguish tv entries, but properly 'season' in Monogatari refers to a collection of thematically tied volumes. The arcs themselves are named after the girl being focused on (e.g. Hitagi Crab, Mayoi Snail, etc.), and can have different vibes depending on the problem in the arc each girl is facing. The arcs are pretty self-contained but can build off each other. You will feel every single emotion watching this show. There are five seasons of Monogatari with a sixth being written right now. The anime adapts the first three seasons, known as first, second and final season, which tells the main stories. Off season (Side Stories) and Monster Season (Sequel season) is what is being aired now. Every entry is highly acclaimed, with the new season airing having at this time an 8.98 rating on MAL, making it at this time the 13th highest rated show on the site. The openings themselves are sung by the VA of the girl the arc is focusing on, and thus changes every few episodes. You know most of the VAs: Op 1 and 7 (Stapler girl)- Chiwa Saitou (Homura from Madoka Magica). Op 2 (Backpack girl)-Emiri Katou (Kyuubey from Madoka Magica). Op 3 (basketball girl)-Miyuki Sawashiro (Kurapika from HxH, Shino Asada from SAO). Op 4 (Se No)-Kana Hanazawa (Mayuri from Steins;Gate, Mitsuri from Demon Slayer). Op 5 and 9 (Glasses cat girl)-Yui Horie (Felix from Re:Zero, Minori Kushieda from Toradora). Op 6 (Bee girl)-Eri Kitamura (Sayaka from Madoka Magica, Ami from Toradora). Op 8 (Bird Girl)- Yuka Iguchi (Crusch from Re:Zero). The series was written in a non-chronological order, but that helps with the pacing and mystery. Do not watch the show chronologically on a first watch. The anime released in the same order as the light novels with a few exceptions due to production issues, so the best way to watch is in the order the novels released (at the very least Kizumonogatari must be watched after Bakemonogatari). There is fan service, but in intensity it is not much more intense than what is seen in Mushoku Tensei or No Game No Life, it's just the kind of fan service it has can make some uncomfortable. There is some nudity, but nothing critical. When you do eventually react to the series, know that it is a show that requires your upmost attention since it is mostly dialogue between characters. Watching a version with good subtitles (there are a few different ones) is imperative to understanding the series. Make sure to read comments to get help in explaining things you will no doubt miss or not understand. With this reaction you have reacted to the first and final season openings. All that is left is second season openings, th-cam.com/video/cwOX9wSqMdg/w-d-xo.html and the endings, th-cam.com/video/d1b2_uTg2DM/w-d-xo.html
By the way Luke, I found this playlist on YT, after the first 4 official non-sub compilations, the ones below are the english subbed version of the openings/endings: th-cam.com/play/PLmpVqGlkn1y80KmsEnwm2Uo8QmIupkm7E.html
There’s a different opening for every arc (which are usually like a few episodes). Which is why there are so many, even for this long of a show. Also, the voice actresses for the main female character of the arc sings the song. And the songs very much reflect the arc and the character in it.
Hence the weird way of depicting the world itself which actually fits very well the stories... Make the "boring" setting of the stories interesting visually while the actual story happens...
This is like, my second favorite anime series of all time, and my favorite book series. It's just so amazing how the openings makes no sense until you watch the show and then you see they are pretty much a summary of the arc.
"I don't actually know what Monogatari is about" so Monogatari is the Japanese word for an epic story. The word before Monogatari for each season is telling you what the season is about pretty much, so Bakemonogatari = ghost/monster story, Nekomonogatari = cat story, Nisemonogatari = imposter story, and so on. The Monogatari series is essentially a bunch of over-exaggerated and over-dramatic stories told by the main character. some episodes might just be a 20 minute long conversation about nothing but it is framed so hilariously dramatic its so good
Monogatari openings are pretty wild. Day 156 Attempt 76 asking for Dot Hack Sign Openings and Endings/ Dot Hack Franchise reactions (intertwined series of Anime and Games)
Would be lovely to see more Yorushika reactions. They are probably my favorite band rn, and you are definitely missing out on a lot. I can't even recommend you one video, as I think literally all of them are so great!
No spoilers: The first season (BAKEMONOGATARI) is a pun game on words (Like all the other seasons) Bakemono is "Monster" in japanese Bake is "Ghost/Apparition" in japanese Monogatari is "Story" in japanese Bakemonogatari is like ghost/monster stories. Every opening is about a different story that we will follow, about "oddities", (There's no good word to translate this, in brazilian portuguese we call it "esquisitice", weird things, supernatural.
There are 4 seasons of Monogatari, the 4th is ongoing. These are the 1st season openings (Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari). Check out the 2nd season openings aswell.
Luke, while I'd love to explain the openings for you, especially opening 5, they are so heavily symbolic and the show is so based around figuring characters and situations out properly that even a little explanation would probably help you too much.
This series has a LOOOOT of dialogue. Lots of talking and wordplay with the occasional well animated fight. So since there's so much dialogue, they supplement it with interesting visuals. There's a lot of abstract imagery when the conversations get deep and the OPs reflect that.
There are different OP’s for each arc. The video you watched covers all the Opening in the First season of the Monogatari Series (Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari, Nisemonogatri and Nekomonogatari Black). It’s a very long series. Each opening shows the main girl of the arc. The other character previous introduced are still present in the series The reason why people compare it to Bunny Girl Senpai is for the similar plot. “Main character helping girls with a physical manifestation of a mental problem they are having” so imagine Bunny Girl Senpai in a Madoka Magica direction in terms of art and cinematography. There are multiple watch orders, but I would recommend the Light Novel order as that’s what the author intended, but it is confusing
In all of the openings my favorite still Platinum disco and Perfect slumber. Straight to my playlist on first watched. I swear i didn't even know renai circulation is that popular, it's until one day i watching top anime songs or something then i check it out myself and then i understand why. But still Platinum Disco #1 Perfect Slumber #2 then..
Monogatari is such a great anime. It's about the main character Koyomi Araragi (the black haired guy you kept seeing) helps different girls with supernatural problems (they sometimes change this formula with someone else taking the spotlight) it's a very dialog heavy show with a big emphasis on the characters. It's a little hard to get into since the show isn't shown in chronological order but once you get into it you get hooked so easily. Also it definitely is sus at times so patreon is probably the right choice if you ever do end up watching it
Basically, each arc of the anime has its own opening, so every 3/4 episodes it changes, here's a summary because you saw it in Japanese without lyrics: Bakemonogatari has 5 openings: 1, 2, 13 - Hitagi Crab 3, 4, 5 - Mayoi Snail 6, 7, 8 - Suruga Monkey 9, 10 - Nadeko Snake 11, 12, 14, 15 - Tsubasa Cat Nisemonogatari 1 - 6 - Karen Bee* 7 - 11 - Tsukihi Phoenix * The first episode is a different opening for the arc's focus character, focusing on another character (Hitagi) Nekomonogatari Kuro - Tsubasa Family I haven't seen them all and I'm not an expert in this anime, but generally each character has 3 arcs focused on them, a beginning, middle and end, like movies are divided into 3 acts. And Monogatari Series is divided into 3 major seasons, the openings you saw are basically the first season of the original material, that's why the next anime in order of release is called "Monogatari Series: Second Season", because it adapts all the books that belong to the second season. Here's a tip, if you're going to watch it, watch it in order of release, it's my rule that I use for all confusing animes (Like Fate/series), watch it the way the creator wanted.
The Bakemonogatari series is Bunny Girl Senpai's older/weirder cousin. Down to main girls of arcs perform the openings as they did the ED for Bunny Girl Senpai.
The monogatari in the title translates to story/stories. It is an anthology series that revolves around the same protagonist (for the most part). The first season, Bakemonogatari, is about the protagonist solving supernatural issues that his classmates are having or are happening in his city, each story arc has it's own opening and ending that reflect the what the story is about. The character singing the song is usually the one afflicted with some sort of curse or entity.
Here are my 5 + 2 classic recommendations for your next OP & ED reactions: 1. (2004) Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha OP & ED (with 5 series, 4 movies and 2 games; OPs & some movie EDs sung by that era's anisong queen: Mizuki Nana) 2. (2000) Vandread OP & ED (fire retro 90s/00s songs)(check out the EDs for cheekiness) 3. (2011) Horizon in the middle of Nowhere OP & ED 4. (2003) Chrono Crusade OP & ED 5. (2011) Anohana OP & ED Special mention: (2008) Macross Frontier ED & insert (esp the EDs like "Diamond Crevasse" & "Northern Cross" are a MUST! and their longer forms!, insert songs: Ao no Ether, Yousei) classic 1. (2000) Inuyasha OP & ED 2. (1996) Rurouni Kenshin (the 1996 series) OP & ED
monogatari is about growth, fighting your own demons, acceptance, bunny senpai took lots of things from here, but its so much more depth put into every characther in monogatari that you can, and have been made, full 1h long video thesis on every single chaactter thats in, its really a journey
also, most of these op are from bakemonogatari, the first season, and last for like 3 ep each, they are so different because they are somewhat an expression from the main heroine from that mini arc and everyone is different
"Is it literally just like every season of this anime is like new characters and a new story? Why does nothing feel connected?" Oh boy he doesn't know 😂 But these openings are for each arc/character. You just watched all the openings for the First Season of the Monogatari Series, which despite the name doesn't mean anime seasons its just story wise. The anime seasons consists of Bakemonogatari (OP 1-5), Nisemonogatari (OP 6-8), and Nekomonogatari Kuro (OP 9). Theres also Kizumonogatri which consistents of 3 movies and is technically apart of First Season since it becomes before Bakemonogatari. But in Anime release order it comes later as the production of the movies was delayed
The complete silence for Platinum Disco hurt my soul. Anyway no, it isn't different characters. Monogatari does intros for each arc (usually between 2 and 5 episodes) rather than season and most arcs focus on a particular character (usually a girl) and often (but not always) the MC as well. The Voice Actors do indeed sing the intros. The reason the intros feel so different is because they reflect both the personality of the character and in some way the story of the arc, though often not the tone of the arc. Sometimes the intros are actually very intentional contrasts to the tone of the arc.
Just started watching monogatari from scratch from last month and DAMN this series is f***ing awesome there's comedy sussy character art style n animation completely different from other animes first I was not sure Whether I'll enjoy it or not but after watching the three movies and season 1 ( bakemonogatari ) I was hooked to the series now I can't wait to catch up with the lastest season airing now. I highly recommend watching monogatari as a anime fan who watched more than 700+ animes that's all love your reaction on both the channel ❤
16:23 there is a bunch of scenes with some characters being naked. And like the only thing covered by hair would be nipples and bottom regions for example. And fan service is pretty common as well.
There is 100+ episodes of monagatari. Every opening is symbolic and focuses on a different supporting character throughout the seasons. Supporting characters don’t typically interact with each other, they only really interact with our main character. Their artistic design of monagatari very abstract that puts more emphasis on the characters and it is very dialogue heavy. I learned how to read sub after watching the monagatari series and the tatami galaxy.
Monogatari means Story and each season has a Fokus, Bakemonogatari - Monster Stories, Nekomonogatari, Cat Stories, Nisemonogatari - Sisister Stories. Also every characterarc has its own opening that is why there are so many different openings, because every character has a completly different feel to it. Brodly you could say Monogatari is about some kind of monsters/fable creatures and great conversations.
See this is one of those animes that tou just have to watch. It's an absolute masterpiece, you are confused now but thats because the openings each correlate to a specific character that the show is focusing on at that point Believe me it may not seem like it but its great
The sound with the stapler is the sound a stapler makes when you open it and pull back the coil/spring that pushes the staples forward when you are loading new staples...
The Monogatari series is about the MC meeting a bunch of people (mostly girls) and the supernatural experiences they go through due to their own set of circumstances. There’s lots of mystery and humor and the show can also get very brutal. It’s a truly unique anime.
The openings are very accurate even with spoilers beacuse you can't understand the spoilers until you watch the anime. Monogatari is in my top 3 animes it's about characters kind of just talking about nothing but at the same time if you pay attention you can feel the true meaning of what is really happening. Kaiki best waifu btw.
The Monogatari songs are dangerous due to copyright claims/ strikes. It's just a suggestion but don't leave the anime just after an episode or Two just keep patience and you will love it. It's a MASTERPIECE ❤.
I'm rewatching the Monogatari series right now. It was actually the first novel I ever finished. Not sure if the openings are the best way to recommend this series, but I gotta say Monogatari series is a masterpiece.
The Names of the Seasons are Wordplays. Like Bakemonogatari comes from Bakemono and Monogatari, which mean Monster and Story respectively. Nisemonogatari comes from Nisemono - Fake - and again: Monogatari for Story. The Anime does not have full Nudity as far as I can remember, but yes you are correct, it's probably not 100% safe for Twitch/YT. It's basically a Harem with *many VERY* dodgy Camera Angles, being so upfront and going so far with its Fanservice, that it's almost commendable. I'll leave you to take from that what you will^^ The Reason why you saw the Guy in most of these is because *he* is the Main Character. And as others have pointed out, the Watch Order may have to be chosen by you or by Vote, as there are multiple possible Ways to watch the Story, and chronologically might make the most Sense. Also you may know many of the Voices from other Anime, especially since most of them were later reused for Madoka Magica lol. And as others have said as well, the VAs also sing heir respective OP Song. Regarding whether you should watch it or not: I think the Monogatari Series is one of the Anime that you just "have to watch" at some Point, simply because it'd be a Stain in your Resumé. It's very "different", but that's even more Reason to check it out and either find out whether you like it, or just to talk about it. the other Reason as to why this should be on Patreon and not on Twitch is because it's non a Popcorn-Show. You can't just watch Monogatari and *not* pay Attention. The Anime consists almost soley of Dialogue, and I think you'd end up very confused when watching it on Twitch. I think it's a pretty brilliant Show, but it's definitely not everyone's Cup of Tea.
The openings are random without context... but after watching the show they make sense... They make so much sense and they are so awesome both in the way they show you that meaning while being so artistic... they are really abstract but so on the nose at the same time...
So these were the openings for Monogatari First Season, which includes Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari, Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari: Kuro. It is actually one continous story, and all arcs are connected, but the thing with the openings is, they are all focused on one particular character and their experience, which is why they feel so different. It may seem random, but makes a surprising amount of sense in the context of the show. "Are there scenes in Monogatari that are not suited for TH-cam or Twitch?" Uh... well... so about that... uh... you see...well... the thing is... uh...sorry, what were we talking about?
Thank you! I've been looking forward to these reactions 😁 To answer some of your questions: - OPs 1-5 were from Bakemonogatari: "Bakemono (Monster)" + "Monogatari (Story)" - OPs 6-8 were from Nisemonogatari: "Nisemono (Fake/Impostor)" + "Monogatari" - OP 9 was from Nekomonogatari Black: "Neko (Cat)" + "Monogatari" Some main reasons why Monogatari gets compared to Bunny Girl Senpai: - It focuses on the male MC helping girls dealing with supernatural events - Every girl gets her own mini arc and sings her own song (but they get unique OPs instead of doing covers of the same ED like in BGS) - There's a _lot_ of witty banter
Speaking of Bunny Girl Senpai, you should react to the other two Bunny Girl Movies (You have to Sail the High Seas to Find them but they are out there.) Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsick Girl (You'll need to see both of those before you watch the next season of Bunny Girl Senpai when it comes out.)
Basically, the Monogatari series is made up of a bunch of different arcs that follow different people, so the different openings signal a change in focus, as well as display each character’s personality and circumstances.
The thing about the opening is that whenever new character get introduced, we would get a new opening based on that new character, so multiple different opening in just a single season. As such, it's accurate to say it's a character theme. Since the opening is based on the character personality rather than the theme of the anime (new opening comes out in new character introduction afterall), that's why each opening doesn't feel connected at all. Lol XD So rather than every season focusing on every single character, it's just every opening focusing on a different character. It may look like all that was from many seasons cause many opening, but no, all that was in a single season. You see all these characters all at once in the same season, story will be abit more boring if it was just 1 character per season afterall, but by having 1 character per opening, it made the opening more interesting cause there's more new opening in a single season compare to most other anime. Lol XD
Luke almost knows Skater Boy by Avril Lavigne. 19 minutes in Luke finally gave a thought about voice actors possibly singing those openings. But i didn't watch Monogatari shows so i have no clue on most things too.
the OPs correspond with specific arcs that the characters go through, so each OP features that character, and fun fact all of them aside from I think one or two exceptions are sung by the character's voice actresses, so it's like the character themselves are singing which just drives the point home even further that these openings are connected to the characters. Also yeah futakotome is so good, kinda gets over looked imo, renai circulation and platinum disco seems to get by far the most attention.
Bunny GIrl Senpai is a Saga of Trauma and Growth themed with Quantum Physics. The MC is a guy with 2 friends who gets into crazy shit from people he meets. Monogatari Series is a Saga of Trauma and Growth themed with Supernatural Folklore. The MC is a guy with 2 friends who gets into crazy shit from people he meets. To make it clear, what inspired the Bunny Girl novels was the Monogatari novels. The author of Bunny Girl loved the Monogatari series. Monogatari is the grandpappy of that style of storytelling that has grown fairly popular over the years because of Monogatari.
It's impossible to describe Bakemonogatari in anything but the simplest of terms, so I'll go with this: "Recovering vampire helps girls with monster problems, mostly without violence." It's my favorite anime alongside Vinland Saga.
Thought I’d mention, if you react to the second season’s ops, you’ll see every character here in other openings. Every character has at least 2 arcs apart from some exceptions.
Thx for this reaction 👍 I remember when the first season came out I was crazy about this series. The stapler is related to one of the girls, just as other objects or even living beings are related to the other girls. If I'm not mistaken, it was the first time I saw a plot with cinematic elements that focused on conveying the personality of each character. The chronology was always a headache...

It's worth noting that all the openings are sung by the characters, helps differentiating them if it seems confusing.
Everything Is Connected. Every Seasons Is Connected. Goodluck😂.
If you are about to dive into Monogatari you can:
-Either watch it in cronological order
Or
-Watch it in the order they aired
And all of what you saw? All of those openings? Are from just two seasons. Yes, each one is for an arc. Sooooo...
P.S.: Sorry, I stuttered. If you want to watch it in chronological order, you'll have to watch three movies of one hour each called Kizumonogatari (Kizu = Scars, Monogatari = Story). A story about scars indeed, but oh boy... prepare to edit a lot.
the openings do switch focus between a set of characters, and like bunny girl senpai, each story line has a naming scheme. *Monogatari* Series has Bake-Monogatari , Neko-Monogatari , Nise-Monogatari , etc
while bunny girl senpai has the naming scheme: *"Rascal Does Not Dream of"* , Bunny Girl Senpai, Petite Devil Kohai, Logical Witch, a Nightingale, etc..
All op:s are heavily infused with symbolism to the point that they reveal key plot points. But they are so obtuse with it that it is almost impossible to see until after you have seen the arc it is for.
Honestly, that's like my favourite kind of opening.
jojo openings till season 4 at least are like that too, the first opening is kinda telling the whole part 1 plot if you'll watch it again after a couple of episodes, but until that point it's just flashy characters and symbolism.
👀👀👀
Then there's AoT openings
@@abhijithcpreej 2nd op of the 3 season is really bad, literally shows every major thing happening in the next episodes bruh
The reason people say bunny girl is monogatari lite is because they both follow the same format of small arcs each focused on a character struggling with supernatural issues with the mc trying to help them out except monogatari is heavier on the supernatural and dialogue aspect.
Not to mention the 0.1 second frames that you can't help but pause only to see it say noir, or red, or death, or something.
@@ashenblood it will occasionally have a 36 line paragraph that will make you more confused after reading it.
Also both mc's are loners and have imouto
@@ashenblood you aren't supposed to read them, you are supposed to pick up a couple of words while they are flashing in front of you to get the gist of what they say. When words are important they are on screen for much longer periods of time.

Fun fact, the VAs of the respective girl in the current arc are the ones singing the openings... except for shinobu's
Monogatari isn't only good at character writing, it's possibly the best at it.
chronologically is the worst way, it is completely detrimental to the Ougi storyline.
@@especedelapin chronological is for the weak.
Using Shinobu in the thumbnail is pretty ironic when she's the only character that doesn't sing her OP
That's because Maaya Sakamoto wants to keep her seiyuu and singing careers completely separated from each other. She has done anime themes, but as herself and not as her characters.
Ok, to explain it a bit:
Bakemonogatari is only one season of the Monogatari Series. Openings aren't for seasons but for each arc with every arc being about a different girl and a supernatural problem she and the MC gotta deal with (similar to the way Bunny Girl Senpai does it)
When people talk about stuff like Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari, Nekomonogatari, Tsukimonogatari, Nisemonogatari etc. then that's all the same series with the same characters but different focuses in each arc and different overarching themes per season.
Careful tho, monogatari literally just means something like "story" (Nekomonogatari is the "cat story" for example) so there are anime with similar titles that have nothing to do with the series. When someone says or something is called "Monogatari Series" tho it is this one.
There are plenty of watch guides so no need to worry.
correction: bakemonogatari is part 1 of season 1.
To clarify these are openings of the first 3 instalments of the series you would watch if you were to watch it in airing order
1. Bakemonogatari (15 episodes)
2. Nisemonogatari (11 episodes)
3. Nekomonogatari: Kuro (4 episodes)
1. Kizumonogatari part 1
2. Kizumonogatari part 2
3. Kizumonogatari part 3
4. Nekomonogatari
5. Bakemonogatari
6. Nisemonogatari
7. Monogatari series
8. Tsukimonogatari
9. Owarimonogatari
10. Koyomimonogatari
11. Owarimonogatari season 2
12. Zoku owarimonogatari
13. Hanamonogatari
In my opinion this is the best order.
@@erlox1104 Nah...airing order is the best way since it captures the enigmatic essence of the series...
The ending is seriously underrated. One of the best endings of all time.
Good to know that for the most of them, openings are sung by the character voice actress on which the opening is focused on.
Each arc is centered around a girl, and that's the voice actress who sings the opening of their own arc

You mean Bunny girl senpai has a very similar plot to Monogatari
Instead all these openings were from the same Season Bakemonogatari (except the last two which were from Nisemonogatari & Nekomonogatari)
Basically each opening is based off different arcs from the season, where each arc is focused on a different female character & our Main Protagonist *Araragi* trying to help them with their otherworldly & mystical problems + each opening is actually sung by the voice artist of the characters (that's how they do that every season)
At last answering your questions on how many Monogatari Seasons are there, well to be exact there are 12 seasons as of rn (including the new season that's airing at the moment)
I didn’t realize that she also voiced Shirase! That is so cool to know.

And about the length: There are currently a total of 94 episodes and 3 movies, without the new season that is currently airing)
These arcs are linked, but in a non-chronological order, so each arc kinda expands on the overall timeline.
Personally I recommend watching the series by arc, and arcs can be like 2 to 5 episodes each, that way you can watch it faster while also understanding better (you wouldn’t forget relevant info in the middle of the arc because of waiting a week between episodes)
And yes, these official compilation videos are the best way to see these openings, and this is the first compilation. The one you watched the last time was the third one, so next up is the second compilation.
I mean it’s airing right now and off /monster season could be as much as like 40 episodes when done

Top 3 Monogatari songs

You know most of the VAs:
Op 1 and 7 (Stapler girl)- Chiwa Saitou (Homura from Madoka Magica).

There’s a different opening for every arc (which are usually like a few episodes). Which is why there are so many, even for this long of a show. Also, the voice actresses for the main female character of the arc sings the song. And the songs very much reflect the arc and the character in it.
The studio that Did Madoka Magicka actually did Monogatari as well.

In short without spoilers monogatari is series following a certain "gentleman" helping different girls.
No spoilers:
The first season (BAKEMONOGATARI) is a pun game on words (Like all the other seasons)
Bakemono is "Monster" in japanese
Bake is "Ghost/Apparition" in japanese
Monogatari is "Story" in japanese
Bakemonogatari is like ghost/monster stories.
Can't blame you for feeling scarred, Luke.
I still feel scarred of the 5th Bakemonogatari opening 14 (?) years later now.
The other character previous introduced are still present in the series
The reason why people compare it to Bunny Girl Senpai is for the similar plot.
By the way, that opening with the cats has another version, as that opening changes quite a bit as the story arc unfolds
Also it definitely is sus at times so patreon is probably the right choice if you ever do end up watching it
NO WAY I just watched your other monogatari OPs video a couple hours ago 😂
Basically, each arc of the anime has its own opening, so every 3/4 episodes it changes, here's a summary because you saw it in Japanese without lyrics:
Bakemonogatari has 5 openings:
1, 2, 13 - Hitagi Crab
3, 4, 5 - Mayoi Snail
6, 7, 8 - Suruga Monkey
9, 10 - Nadeko Snake
11, 12, 14, 15 - Tsubasa Cat
Nisemonogatari
1 - 6 - Karen Bee*
7 - 11 - Tsukihi Phoenix
* The first episode is a different opening for the arc's focus character, focusing on another character (Hitagi)
Nekomonogatari Kuro - Tsubasa Family
I haven't seen them all and I'm not an expert in this anime, but generally each character has 3 arcs focused on them, a beginning, middle and end, like movies are divided into 3 acts.
🚨Warning🚨: don't watch Monogatari, I watched it and I can't stop praising it for how good it is. You have been warned.
The Bakemonogatari series is Bunny Girl Senpai's older/weirder cousin. Down to main girls of arcs perform the openings as they did the ED for Bunny Girl Senpai.
Man I remember voting for this reaction in Twitch last year February.
Finally 🎉🎉
Monogatari is one of my favorite series of all time, but GOD is hard to recommend it, for...reasons...
Here are my 5 + 2 classic recommendations for your next OP & ED reactions:
1. (2004) Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha OP & ED (with 5 series, 4 movies and 2 games; OPs & some movie EDs sung by that era's anisong queen: Mizuki Nana)
2. (2000) Vandread OP & ED (fire retro 90s/00s songs)(check out the EDs for cheekiness)
3. (2011) Horizon in the middle of Nowhere OP & ED
4. (2003) Chrono Crusade OP & ED
5. (2011) Anohana OP & ED
Special mention: (2008) Macross Frontier ED & insert (esp the EDs like "Diamond Crevasse" & "Northern Cross" are a MUST! and their longer forms!, insert songs: Ao no Ether, Yousei)
classic
1. (2000) Inuyasha OP & ED
Ngl, I might join the patreon just for this series if you watch it
Rewatching these ops really bring back my high school and university memories 😂
"Is it literally just like every season of this anime is like new characters and a new story? Why does nothing feel connected?"
Oh boy he doesn't know 😂
But these openings are for each arc/character.
The silent Platinum Disco made me platinum sad.
@@eenstoelpoot i was platinum mad!
Monogatari is like a harem anime, except made by Studio Shaft (recall: Madoka Magica), so it’s horni but in the most confusing way imaginable.
It's worth watching! And the first scene of the first episode will give you all the more reason to continue watching.
Monogatari series is a unique and amazing experience to watch, and honestly I think its a must watch.
that guy is there... every now and then we see him just there...
he is the main protagonist lol
Monogatari means Story and each season has a Fokus, Bakemonogatari - Monster Stories, Nekomonogatari, Cat Stories, Nisemonogatari - Sisister Stories. Also every characterarc has its own opening that is why there are so many different openings, because every character has a completly different feel to it.
Brodly you could say Monogatari is about some kind of monsters/fable creatures and great conversations.
The order of monogatari series is way more controversial than fate series. Heck I dont even think fate is even controversial in front of this.
See this is one of those animes that tou just have to watch. It's an absolute masterpiece, you are confused now but thats because the openings each correlate to a specific character that the show is focusing on at that point
Believe me it may not seem like it but its great
The sound with the stapler is the sound a stapler makes when you open it and pull back the coil/spring that pushes the staples forward when you are loading new staples...
I like how Monogatari openings are just *"Wtf is going on"*
Can't wait for Part 2, the opening is more than 9.
I'm rewatching the Monogatari series right now. It was actually the first novel I ever finished. Not sure if the openings are the best way to recommend this series, but I gotta say Monogatari series is a masterpiece.
Each opening feels different because each arc focuses on a different character, and each character's opening is according to their personality.
Is Luke finally going to dive down in this weird and wacky rabbit hole?
21:58 that's the sound of a box cutter/stanley knife.
YOU NEED TO WATCH THE MONOGATARI SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!
The openings are random without context... but after watching the show they make sense... They make so much sense and they are so awesome both in the way they show you that meaning while being so artistic... they are really abstract but so on the nose at the same time...
Peakk peakk peakk...
If u like story and dialogues then it's for you it's too good
So these were the openings for Monogatari First Season, which includes Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari, Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari: Kuro. It is actually one continous story, and all arcs are connected, but the thing with the openings is, they are all focused on one particular character and their experience, which is why they feel so different. It may seem random, but makes a surprising amount of sense in the context of the show.
"Are there scenes in Monogatari that are not suited for TH-cam or Twitch?"
Uh... well... so about that... uh... you see...well... the thing is... uh...sorry, what were we talking about?
My most favoritest Anime ever in my whole life out of more than 2k animes i have watched...
Thank you! I've been looking forward to these reactions 😁
To answer some of your questions:
- OPs 1-5 were from Bakemonogatari: "Bakemono (Monster)" + "Monogatari (Story)"
- OPs 6-8 were from Nisemonogatari: "Nisemono (Fake/Impostor)" + "Monogatari"
- OP 9 was from Nekomonogatari Black: "Neko (Cat)" + "Monogatari"
Some main reasons why Monogatari gets compared to Bunny Girl Senpai:
- It focuses on the male MC helping girls dealing with supernatural events
- Every girl gets her own mini arc and sings her own song (but they get unique OPs instead of doing covers of the same ED like in BGS)
- There's a _lot_ of witty banter
somebody send this man the rest of the openings
I hope the day comes for Luke to experience the monogatari series, it's gonna be a hell of a ride 😂
Lol XD
So rather than every season focusing on every single character, it's just every opening focusing on a different character.
21:55 I think the sound is one of those box cutter knifes. The ones where you can retract the blade.
It's impossible to describe Bakemonogatari in anything but the simplest of terms, so I'll go with this: "Recovering vampire helps girls with monster problems, mostly without violence." It's my favorite anime alongside Vinland Saga.
"mostly" suruga
Thought I’d mention, if you react to the second season’s ops, you’ll see every character here in other openings. Every character has at least 2 arcs apart from some exceptions.
Thx for this reaction 👍 I remember when the first season came out I was crazy about this series.
The stapler is related to one of the girls, just as other objects or even living beings are related to the other girls.
If I'm not mistaken, it was the first time I saw a plot with cinematic elements that focused on conveying the personality of each character.
The chronology was always a headache...
