    It's a southern gray tree frog, I've been in my house for 40yrs and never heard that noise in my life until this summer and I went NUTS trying to find out what kind of critter it was then one night four or five of them took over my aboveground pool and they chirped and chirped for weeks....pretty cool

    The call was a gray treefrog (Hyla versicolor). They often hide behind gutter down spouts or under siding. Leave an outside light on at night and you might see one sitting nearby trying to snag some bugs.

    Back in my bachelor days I had a 150 gallon tank with a dozen piranhas. 8 red belly and 4 yellow belly. They grew to about 7 inches, give or take. At one point I had 3 breeding pairs. They usually weren't agressive towards people. I'd even clean the tank with my hand in with them. Couldn't do that when they were nesting. They turned black and would bounce against the glass to try and get to you.
    When I was feeling lazy I would toss in a frozen chicken breast and they would tear it apart. Feeding live goldfish was messy. Scales went everywhere. Ultimately I ended up getting rid of them since the tank was huge for my small house, it took a lot of maintenance and the tank and fish were all pretty ugly.
    *Edit* I remembered the name of the yellow piranhas. They were called caribe. The red bellies I bought from the local pet store when they were about 1". The caribe's I drove about 4 hours to pick them up from a private party. They were about 3" when I got them. None of them were illegal at the time. This would have been around 2000-2003.

      @williamparker8318 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I too had red belly piranhas in a 150 tank in the early 80's. They were beautiful fish with personality. I think at the time they cost 25.00 each and were the size of a quarter when purchased. Got bit once when they were small. Razor sharp teeth, never felt it. Cheers.

    In the old days, here in Brazil, when a cowboy needed to cross a river with a herd of cows, he had to take a cow and put it in the river before the others. this was done so that the piranhas would focus on just one cow, instead of biting and injuring several of the herd. This custom is called "boi de piranha" (piranha ox / piranha cow). Weird right? kkkkkk

    I found polycarbonate online with cool textures that would be worth making lips from. I really wonder if the "pebble" textured poly that i'm looking at could vary the action, and make a wobble search around a little more. A side by side with the same bait having a smooth lip would be worth a video imo

  • @kyleschmucker7581

    We had a tank full of 4 piranhas and 4 Oscar’s. They created this invisible line right down the centre of the tank. Piranhas stuck to the front and Oscar’s to the back. Even if food was put into the tank neither would cross that “invisible line” to eat. So you’d have to distribute the food between each side. Just so strange.

    I spent many visits to the NE of Brasil and while there, was invited to dinner at the home of a Plant Manager. While visiting, we discussed fishing, etc. He left the room and returned with a large plastic bag with a large frozen fish in it. It was a Piranha close to 18" long and was 3#. It was the 'average' fish they catch in their river. I'm telling you it was a scary looking fish!

    Fished for them traveling the Amazon with a bamboo pole, monofilament with a bit of wire leader and long shanked hook. Used liver for bait. About size and fight of crappie. Tasted great. Locals have no concern about them. Love your videos!
