In this video, we are getting our camper trailer roof prepped to install the new rubber roof material. I'm removing the final termination strips, lap sealant, staples, and more.
I then make my around all the edges and tape up the seams with Gorilla Tape. This makes sure all sharp or rough edges are covered up so they don't damage the new EPDM roofing material. Make sure you do it on all the edges. I also clean up the skylight and vent openings and tape over those edges as well.
I also have to make my way around the camper to remove all the old lap sealant and butyl tape from all the trim and termination strips. I went ahead and pressure washed all the trim to try to remove all the old grime, caulk, and butyl tape.
We're getting close to getting the new roof on.

The cutouts for the skylights fans and air conditioners would be much easier and cleaner to do if you drilled holes in each corner and then used a router with a flush cut trim bit to cut it out for a perfect fit. You could even use a slight round over bit to ease the edges where the membrane comes across the edges of your plywood. That way there's no sharp 90 degree angles for your EPDM rubber roofing membrane to be stressed over. I'm getting ready to do the exact same project to my RV and your videos were excellent! I'd recommend when installing the epdm layered as follows: decking, adhesive, front cap siding, adhesive, epdm, staples, adhesive, then termination strip with lap sealant on the top. You may want to see if epdm manufacturer recommends adding epdm primer before adhesive is applied or adhesive/lap sealant won't stick. Unlike what the manufacturer did was put the epdm under the siding. In case of a leak it wouldn't run inside the trailer but, over the outside of the siding. Basically the same as installing the side/back wall termination strip.

Wanting to try this on my old camper. Kinda my last hope is to do it myself the roof is sagging/collapsing inside. But not a good carpenter. Mines a 24 year old Wildwood forrest river and is 40 foot long. The entire roof is compromised and pretty much a total loss but its centimintal to me so im willing to do what it takes to save her. Thanks for these informative videos there giving me some hope on this massive project.

I'm curious. Why a lot of people are using duct tape for the corner edge's before installing the membrane? is it because it is cheap? I'm about to install a TPO roof tomorrow and had thought about using gorilla tape which I purchased. But after cleaning up all my edges and new plywood. I tried a test piece and the gorilla tape didn't stick to the fresh smooth plywood well at all. I also bought dicor seal tite corner tape to do the front vertical corner molding after the roof is done. I tried a small test piece on the roof wood to front metal siding termination area, and it stuck to both materials and won't come off. seams like a great option. Before I choose which one to go with. I thought I'd ask a couple regular rv DIY'rs.
Yep...just to protect the membrane on the edges. I would go with what you can get to stick. Best of luck.
No but I use a borax with a a rubber Applied on it I have that Paden that I was gonna wrap a board with and use that

What type of plywood did you use to replace the rotten plywood? And what thickness. A lot of people have told me 1/8 inch plywood but it doesnt seem strong enough. I was thinking atleast 1/4inch

Just wondering what you use to clean the roof from debris since the old plywood is so sticky
I typically start by using a wide-blade scraper or putty knife to gently remove any large chunks of debris or old adhesive stuck to the plywood. This helps to get rid of the bulk of the material without damaging the wood underneath.

I get the same error on 18 October 2021. “No stream. tap to retry” and it just keeps cycling that message.

Hi Jose. It's used to protect the rubber membrane from sharp edges, rough seams, etc.
What's the name of that tool you are using to cut the roof?
The red-handled tool is a sawzall. Is that the one you are referencing?

Termination strips ain’t but $10 it’s worth your time to buy them then you sit there and try to clean a man hope that you’re gonna sell or don’t have a romper room to where they don’t pull down even!
where do you buy your RV trim? Is it sold model specific?
I couldn't get them during the pandemic and had to deal with it this way.
