    Eternabond is the tape ! Dicor sealant is the self leveling caulking in tubes. Glad to see your work holding up. I’m about to do some of the Eterna Bond tape on the edges and the main roof joint top front. I hope I get the same results. I may look into the coating you did next. Thanks

    • @davesrvchannel4717
      @davesrvchannel4717  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mine has held up well, couldn’t be happier. I highly suggest running that tape all along top sides-edge as I did. 90% of roof issues I see is from the sides. As trailer flex’s in travel I’m assuming it’s rubbing the edges raw and cracks along that entire outer edge. The tape gives it extra thick layer

      Oh, eterna bond saved my bacon when a delamed section came loose ON THE ROAD!! (60mph w 25-30 cross winds)
      It comes in many widths, also. I have the 5" but I have seen other TH-camrs w 6 and 2 inch versions. I just wish they'd sell it direct from them. Having to find an RV supply (darn near all of them stock some version of it) in some places can be a challenge and resellers can be sketchy.

    Good video, I use Simple Green and a broom then rinse and for the nasty black stain or tree sap I damp a rag with Mineral Spirits or DENATURED Alcohol. I know you said 91% alcohol but is best to use it DENATURED and it won't harm/dry/toast the thin rubbery material. Works like a charm. Just wipe, not much pressure, nice, easy and gentle press to remove the nasty coat. It turns it white again and without harmful heat. I get it at Walmart but is everywhere.

Would you consider developing checklists for what you do before a trip, after a trip, annual checkup and repairs, etc? I know that it would vary a bit from RV to RV and climate to climate but a general checklist would be helpful, especially for those new to RV's. Stay safe and have fun.

    Hey Dave I spoke with you before about coating the roof and taping it . I did the job last weekend and all went well. Just wanted to tell you a few things. First thing, my roof is 28feet long so my area was a lot more than yours, so it really took all day after cleaning and preparing the roof doing the tape and all. The new name on the can of coating is Elasto-Kool 1000. I was able to find it at Ace Hardware, 3 gallons on the shelf. None of the Lowe’s stores had any in the store, only online ordering. Cost at Ace was $32 gallon. I remember you saying in the video that the coating was much thinner than you expected, however after stirring my stuff real good it was actually pretty thick, so maybe the formulation changed? Anyway it was easy to work with. I did 3 coats with 2 gallons and I have one left over. After the roof was completed I washed and polished the outside and washed the awning. We have not had any rain for a whole week so timing was perfect. Thanks for all your help. But I would like to ask you, what would you recommend for cleaning the roof with this new coating once fall gets here? Love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again

      If you’ve got an area of full sun to park it in. I’d get a pump sprayer and mix 2/3 water to 1/3 bleach. Spray on roof, give it couple hours and repeat. Then hose off roof with garden hose and sprayer. It’ll run down your camper sides, so you need to keep sides wet to prevent streaks. Then I’d do pump sprayer bleach deal 2-3x same and next day, then rinse again. Sounds like a lot of work but actually just spraying, no scrubbing. I avoid pressure washer because it can open pores or push water in areas you don’t want it. The cleaner the roof the better it will adhere. Good luck Gary. Let me know how it goes

It was where the water comes out of the hot water tank. If it leaks again, Brad Taylor (the builder) told us to replace the ring washer. Caught it in time, cleaned up a puddle of water. But this is bound to happen since it is a 2011 build. Brad says that everyday jiggling can loosen stuff. Dave: I'm still not over the snakes ya'll get there🥴😵😬🤣😂. AND the heat/humidity!!! I might look into the newer system. I installed my flexi panels w/o realizing til halfway thru that my roof wasn't meant to be walked on. I was being careful to stay on the joists, but slipped occasionally.
    I was momentarily aghast at the comment about using a silicopne based sealant on the black tank vent, but it didn't look as bad as I expected to see. What product did you use there?
    I've avoided using silicone in my RV roof sealing process because its problematic; in that nothing sticks to cured silicone, even silicone. There are many remnants of the previous owners attempts to "fix" leaks using silicone based products in my RV's roof and I find myself relieved when I have replaced then with another product I know I can then clean and enhance. As opposed to stripping and replacing.
    All that said, I used 3M products on my sailboat and I can swerar to the reliability of 3M 4200 and 5200 for the ability to waterproof ANYTHING.

    Thank you Dave. I am building a DIY Overlander Camper. I am trying to find out what to seal the roof and actually the walls with. Would you use this product to seal my entire camper to save some money? I don't have the money to ACM panel the walls, so that is why I was thinking of your product. Thoughts??

      Great question. It’s made to flex a little so I’d think road use it would hold up. If you do off roading it might be more questionable. If you have an ABC roofing and materials supplier nearby you can probably get similar product in 5 gallon. Lowes may also carry 5 gal just more expensive. ABC guys could tell you more about product and ability. Biggest thing is what it’s adhering to

    I'd lap seal those solar panel mounts, that butyl is sticky but it loses its seal far faster than lap especially when it exposed to direct contact to water.

  • @2olvets443
    @2olvets443 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would love to give the black jack a try but after reading the directions and what it can be used for I opted out and ordered Dicor.
    I did mine, not properly, 5 years ago with a EDPM liquid rubber that was not Dicor and said was with soap and pressure washer. I did that and now having separation issues. Now the company says you have to use a cleaner/primer so not going with them again.
    It is my understanding anything that is silicone in it will not work well with rubber and liquid rubber.

      I don’t have much faith in rubber roof material the thickness of a dime. Therefore I’ll be upgrading mine next summer to likely have a roof to last my lifetime, with material about 1/4” thick which Is used in commercial settings like Walmart etc

    Generally roof coatings do not work. However I'm glad to see in your case it has. I recommend just keeping the camper covered in general when it's not being used it will make it last significantly longer. I know they say don't use a tarp but if you pitch it the right way it will actually keep the whole roof dry and save the camper from any leaks

    • @davesrvchannel4717
      @davesrvchannel4717  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great advice!!! I like to use roll of plastic found in paint department at Walmart or Lowe’s versus using blue tarp. Lasts much longer and less likely to leak

      It’s elastomeric it should flex. The stuff flexes over concrete cracks when used on block homes in Florida. How much vibration do you think a trailer has going down the road. As with most comment understand what your talking about.first

    For anyone who is trying to do repairs to your camper or RV in 2023 some of the cheapest places I have found for the Mach AC covers are camping world believe it or not. I managed to pick up all of my vents including my two tank vents and my two solar events as well as the cowling for my AC for less than $270. I'm going with a double coat and my RV is 31 ft long so I just picked up two 5g buckets sealer. That costs as much as the vents so you are prepared. Don't go with the cheap stuff but going with the most expensive stuff can also break the bank right now considering they are going for upwards to $350 a 5-gallon jug. I appreciate all the TH-camrs who have put videos out. I know how to do it but it's nice to watch five or six people do it before I do it again so that I know I did not make any mistakes! It is also very refreshing to have five or six different opinions and ways to tackle a problem as well as someone could bring up problems that others did not think about. Good luck
