Geno and the Ram Jam Band are headlining in a couple of weeks time on the Saturday night at my local free folk festival, Bunkfest in Wallingford. A great little festival which usually draws around 8-10,000 for the headliners.
Reminiscing about Ricky Cool and the Icebergs? I remember other Ricky Cool bands like the Rialtos and the Big Town Playboys: they were a major force in the music scene of the time! Definitely something to consider and do…
Thank you: very kind of you toi say so. I did do a thing about Danny and Roogalator a little while ago. I think it was this video: th-cam.com/video/t8Tok-k3NzQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi Cheers!
It was a magic era, and I'm so glad I could be (a small) part of it! You may have missed out on London, but I bet you have some epic stories from your RAF days near Ipswich!
Nice video ,Jim !!.......Shame I never saw those bands (Geno, was forever in the gig lists).."Dance Hall Style",i remember at ,Merlins Cave, and"Jamie Wednesday",at the ,Bull and Gate....rare great gigs...thats the middle 80s, so all the really tremendous stuff had already happened for my taste..All the best to you...
I appreciate your kind words and your reminisces about the good old days! There are a lot of bands I'd seen more often. If only we could travel back in time… 😀
Remember seeing the Prisoners twice St Albans City 83 with the Milkshakes, saw Milkshakes a few times Hope and Ancer Mighty ceasers Hope Ancer with the prisoners 85 Milkshakes Watford 80s great scene back Then.
Saw The Prisoners at the Clarendon with Dr And The Medics and The Scientists. Great band, weird to see psychobillies chicken dancing to a mod/psych band on this vid!
Yes, I think I was "upstairs at The Clarendon" (Klub Foot) that night too! At the time, I didn't appreciate how close the sound was to the 1960s Garage bands, who had existed just a few years earlier…
Oh I saw Geno on a bill with Spear of Destiny, think it was a GLC benefit - odd sort of line up. I remember The Cricketers, think I saw a John Otway 'Farewell' (ha!) gig there
I think I had something to do with that GLC Benefit (as Geno's agent/manager - whichever I was at the time). I think Brandon saw Geno at a gig and asked for him. Yes, Otway is the master of the "Farewell Gig". Around the time I first met him he asked me to organise a series of benefits because he'd wrecked his flat doing DIY!
Yes, Geno's great secret was that he wasn't/isn't the most technically accomplished vocalist in the world. And he kept forgetting the lyrics, so there are plenty of howlers if you listen closely enough! Still, his stage presence and amazing charisma made him one of the greatest frontmen of the Rock 'n' Roll era…
Haha! You are either joking or geographically illiterate - or maybe you didn't watch much of the video - because the Wirral is more than 200 miles from London. You wouldn't want to walk from the Hope & Anchor to Medway or Southend, either! Finally, what has any of this got to do with race?

Fantastic! I suspect you'll have a great time. Geno and the band are still rockin' it hard!
Cheers!
Saw Geno Washington several times in Colchester in the late 80's. He was fantastic live then.
Geno's shows still pack a punch now. He's a legend. Cheers!
Nice one Jim
I appreciate your support, it means a lot!
Great stuff your channel
You're making me blush! Thanks for watching and taking part!
Great reminiscencies Jim. How about covering Ricky Cool and the Icebergs one of my favourite live bands in the early 80s.

Loving your stuff Jim...any chance of a video on Roogalator?
Thank you: very kind of you toi say so. I did do a thing about Danny and Roogalator a little while ago. I think it was this video: th-cam.com/video/t8Tok-k3NzQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi

I remember Rent party! Our band was doing American jazz that had been the pop music of its day too, so I really appreciated them.
Always a great night with Rent Party…
What a brilliant channel Jim - Liked & subscribed!
Thank you so much for saying that: I really appreciate the positive comment. Cheers!
Good to hear Geno's still going strong, Jim.
Indeed, Geno is a phenomenon, and I hope he outlives us all! (provided all concernedd live as long as we'd like to!!)…
Caught Geno a few times back then , always great!
Geno Washington is one of the best front-men in Rock music history. At least 50% of any Ram Jam Band show is thanks to his showmanship…
Great stuff Jim, Buddy Curtess and The Grasshoppers played The Cricketers many times
Thanks for your support and kind words! Indeed they did and they rocked the house with their Rock and Soul harmonies!
Great regret that I didn’t spend a couple of years in London during that era. I’m now 70, stationed near Ipswich in the RAF early 1970s

Yes, it was a great scene back then but sadly ignored by the music press and media in general…
You’ve had an interesting life living in London

Sam Apple Pie from Walthamstow. Great band.
Yes, they were good though - I myst admit - they never really set my soul on fire the handful of times I saw them…
Geno was great live but couldn't do it in the studio, my first record i bought was hand clapping foot stomping but live

No mention of Little Bob Story.
Have you watched all 273 of my videos on TH-cam? If so, well done and I thank you!
I think you are racist if they are not centered around London you ignore them.

Racist? London isn't a race? Unless it's the human race?
So why is Jim a big fan of Geno Washington?
@@stephenbrown4211 When I used the term racist I was referring to the thousands of bands that were not centered around the London scene.
@@FrankPeterson-uk9ky when was being in a band a',race'???
