I hope this gets continued, I feel like the ship is controlled by something like Rasputin, a system wide defense array built for the sole purpose of defending the home system, now it's directive has changed.
It will be a pretty bad day for the galaxy when we return to the stars for our revenge. But there is a silver lining of hope. Considering the fact the ship did not attack the vessel that was in distress and even repaired it shows that if you are wise, it would be best to surrender and submit for judgment is coming.
the one ship that survived was a merchant ship, and arrived by accident and with heavy damage from the sounds of things. They did not fire upon the warship, they went straight for a fuel source and began gathering fuel. From what we can see the warship's cyberwarfare capabilities are enough to wipe out AI star nations, so they likely were able to assess everything they needed to know to declare the merchant vessel as such within seconds of its arrival. keep in mind it's also allowing small bits of info out. the probe was probably allowed to see earth. the merchants were told the system was under quarantine. lastly, it sent a message out to be received by anyone listening that it knows they're out there, and humanity has a target. basically, "Here we are", "Leave us be" via both the merchant message and attacking all hostiles/invaders, and "We know our enemy still exists and when we are back on our feet, we will destroy them."
"exact reasoning is unknown" maybe because that was the only ship that entered the system without the intention of harming or exploiting the "primitive" locals?
You'd think they'd learn after the first few invaders... Edit: Looks like we or at least the entity piloting the ship recognizes peaceful traders even though they had no reason to do so given what appears to have happened to Earth.
Of course not, one starship doesn't sound too buff to other races. On a tier scale, with 1 being the weakest, and 10 being the strongest, you have a bunch of T4 ships going against 1 T10 battleship with high defense, a lot of gadgets, neigh infinite ammo, and regenerative capabilities. If I get this right, only a Gestalt Mind controls it. But those only last 1000 or less years
AI-controlled Warship with the purpose of defending the System. I assume the machine-race Dreadnought and every other ship and Wreckage was disassembled, used for repairs and construction. Its kinda terrifying to know, that the machine-ship was hijacked by the AI, determined as broken, unusable Code and so utterly deleted, that it even wiped the entire Network of the machine-race. The line "iam not the last. iam not the only" either means that there more ships in production, probably automated processes, or hibernating in a secure location. With all that influx of Material and Tech, "donated" in 270 incidents, you can surely build a few of these ships.... or send it back home to speed up the rebuilding of human society. i wonder which species attacked humanity... and what happened to them. With that Ship in the System, i assume it was created after the attack. Because with that ship in System, Earth wouldnt have been attacked.
Revenge is a bit futile if no one knows who we are. Already destroyed a whole heap of evil empires purely by defending. At least being nice to the trader was a good indication we aren't going to be too unthinking in our vengeance.
The probe turning around to find this _massive_ ship _right there_ is one of my favorite things XD
I’m just imagining a 1970s era cartoon eye probe turn around and do the cartoon shocked jump infront of a gun barrel twice its size.

A Warmind with full control of a warship variant of a warsat? Now that sounds spicy!

No killing.of the wounded and treatable.
It still has the Geneva Convention protocols
That ship demonstrated no aggression, and likely was not of those that had betrayed previously.

Hullo! :)
"Exact reasoning is unknown." Did they not have any pattern recognition??? The answer for the mercy is obvious.

How would they learn if nobody went back to send the message?

If this one ship is the one defending the humans, what did they have before? Who did they faced? What betrayed and burned them.
More likely other humans.

Most likely self inflicted
Imagin jumping into a system just to get the galactic equivalent of spawn killed.

Revenge is always worse than futile. It precludes justice to the guilty, it injures the vengeful, it imperils the innocent.
Might be because that trader race only evolved after the system was burned
Uh, there's someone really out for Payback Time...

That was probably Agro Squirrel's narration of same story, slightly different title for some reason: Isolated Violence
