What's Eating My Flowers? Damage Control and Prevention for Dahlias and More! //FlowerfFanatic

I'm growing my first Cutting Garden this year and many of my newly planted self-grown plants are getting eaten by pests and insects. In this video I find out that Grasshoppers and Earwigs are the main culprits. I will also provide some solutions for helping deal with these unwanted creatures! Chickens. Diatomaceous earth, Neem Oil, and Seven Spray are a few of them. It can be so frustrating to work so hard on growing and planting flowers just to have insects enjoy the fruits of your Labor. Gardening is always a learning process and provides many challenges. Good thing I like Challenges. The more I Garden, the more I begin to realize there always seems to be a solution to that challenge. I hope this video was helpful for you in some way. I have a lot of different leafy plants and whatever is eating my dahlia leaves isn’t eating anything else.

oh yes Earwigs loved my dahlias last year... I think I read that putting vaseline on the flower step helps as they can't climb up them. Thanks for reminding me to do that. You would see them hiding in both the plant & flower leaves during the day. I haven't had a problem with grasshoppers here... I think they come out more in fall. But I think I may have spider mites & need to figure that out.

Thank you for your video, I’m having the very same issue!! !I just don’t see any slimy residue on them, I think it’s ??? We don’t have grasshoppers, not sure about earwigs? What ever it is they are destroying my dahlias and eating my hydrangeas

Hi Stephanie, I'm dealing with a similar problem, my neighbor's cats catch and eat the grasshoppers but there are still many left. I'm actually considering getting a chicken or two for bug control.

The chickens are annoying too haha…update on chickens. They rummaged through our garden boxes and pulled up six vegetable plants and one of my cutting flower plants. They are back in there run and enclosure. I’m trying diatomaceous earth at the moment and I will see what happens. If that doesn’t work, I’m going to go ahead and spray the leaves with seven spray. I’ll give you an update…
