Flower arranging course: blossomandbranchfarm.teachabl... What to do in the garden if your dahlias are being nibbled upon, are starting to flop over, or are being outgrown by an interplanted cover crop? In this video, we will give you some quick and easy tips to maintaining dahlias for good ongoing health, while also showing you how ours are coming along here at the flower farm!
Overwintering the dahlias has really helped them get a leg up this season with how cold our spring and early summer was--now that the temps have taken off, I look forward to lots of dahlia blooms!

Thanks Bree - once again! Great info! I'm going to snip back some lower leaves on my dahlias. And I bought organza bags to try - seeing exactly how to use them was really helpful here in Ohio zone 6B!

I enjoy your content so much! I have to say though I cringed when you took out that trimmer without leather gloves. I have cut my finger doing that exact same thing and I had on gloves thank God but they were not leather and it took weeks to heal.

Hi Bri! Can you do a video of your favorite dahlias and ones that go well together in a bouquet?
Thank you for all of your videos!

Thank you, Bree! You inspired me to try dahlias for the first time & I planted 30 dahlias this year! My 3/4 acre garden in Pennsylvania zone 6B has a massive problem with little green leaf hoppers! How can I treat those without harming pollinators? I really appreciate your sustainable and organic methods!

Another informative video. Thanks. I can appreciate all the work that goes into having a large flower farm. I only have a few dahlias and I find the copper rings work for me (cuz I have so few of them) the ones in my pots are the ones that the earwigs are munching on. I'm not sure what to do with those unless I put a deeper glass with soya and sink it into the pot.😊

I heard that rolled up moist newspaper is a goid earwigs trap. Dispose of them in the a.m.

Hey Bree - any suggestions for caterpillars? Many times i find my buds are already damaged even before they get to the organza bag stage. Thanks for the great content!

How do you prep cut flowers from insects. I can't tell you how many times earwigs or spiders are hiding in the flower. I've also wondered about coleus as a filler? I don't see much on its use. It has a long vase life, comes in many colors and leaf sizes and shape and is pretty problem free? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks

Do you ever use buckwheat as a cut flower? And also, to avoid spreading disease, do you use alcohol on your hands before you trim bottom leaves of other plants or is that not necessary?

My new Dahlia shoots/leaves i discovered this morning have all been eaten 😢 I think slugs might be the culprit? Will the tubers send up more leaves or are they damaged now? Will your soy sauce and vegetable oil traps work? Thanks.

Help my lisianthis look pitiful :(. Seeding I planted in containers are happy but the majority I put in my raised beds are so sad. I’m also in denver and this is my first time growing them :). Also trying clarkia. They are really taking off. I’m excited to see them bloom

HELP! please! This year my dahlias tubers get attacked by pests that eat them up. All lush greens and flowering plants are dying and when I notice the droopy leaves, a lot of damage already happened under the surface. What should I do besides digging them up, cutting all damage and repotting? It stressed my dahlias and half of them didn't recover. Had to did all of them up 😢

I'm in 6b and the first blooms are starting to appear for me. Some leaf discoloration - maybe needs nitrogen, maybe a disease. I'll try some bloom booster and see what happens

Do you think those organza bags would keep deer from eating the blooms? There are some deer around that like my rudbeckia flower buds.

Pvc pipe. Bendable and inexpensive. You'll need to drive some rebar stakes in first to keep them in place.

Yup, PVC! We have another video showing how we construct these using PVC Or electrical conduit.

@@Blossomandbranch oh that’s perfect thank you! It must have been really hard to get them to bend but I’ll give it a try.

The PVC bend quite easily by hand :)

Just turn them upside down and give them a bit of a shake! Coleus is a great cut in terms of vase life but can be a bit hard to find on a long enough stem length for cutting.
