Donny Hathaway had such a soulful voice. He had a lot of great songs. "The Ghetto", "Someday We'll All Be Free", "Little Ghetto Boy", "For All We Know", "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know". I really like the songs he did with Roberta Flack especially "Where Is The Love" & "The Closer I Get To You". He struggled with mental health issues during his life. Sadly he died in 1979 at only 33 years of age.
He did several very good duets with Roberta Flack. "The closer I get to you", "back together again", "where is the love", maybe a few others I can't remember at the moment. All well worth hearing.
Leon has a version where it looks like he is in a pole barn with a piano and some ladies cookin up some serious grub. It is too cool. People sittin around and he is on the piano only. Good stuff.
Wow, that was beautiful. I am very familiar with Leon's version , which I love. However, I think Donny's cover is even better. What a beautiful voice. Bless him RIP....
You probably heard The ghetto by Donny, it’s one of his most known songs. Leon Russell was an amazing songwriter and performer too. I love his record Leon Russell and the Shelter People, which includes Stranger in a strange land and Crystal closet queen (the last one being a tribute to Little Richard).
You should also check out his duets with Roberta Flack - I (Who Have Nothing) & You've Lost That Loving Feeling are incredible arrangements, incredibly sung.
Donny was a gem, that’s why his song “This Christmas” is still played as a staple every Christmas from the day he made it, I don’t know too many people in my community that haven’t heard that song or it’s not been played in their household at Christmas. “This Christmas” and “Santa Clause is coming to town” by the Jackson 5 lol 😂 just saying 😅
This song makes me think of my sister. She fell ill and spent some time in the hospital. I'd put songs from my computer on a tablet for her to listen to. For you, Tara.
I love Donny's cover of this great song; it is sung so well and is very romantic, and I downloaded it long ago, but I'm still a bit partial to the original by Leon Russell, whose version sounds like he's ripping his heart out and showing it to the world for all to see. I believe you will love it.
I agree. Huge fan of Leon and/but respect this version. I don’t think Leon could have written it so gently nor Donny have written it in such growling emotions. There is room for both. Biz, if you decide to check out Leon;s original version, this is the definitive performance IMHO. And, who else could have come up with ‘love you in a place where there is no space or time’?
Have you reacted to the original recording of Leon Russell singing this song. He wrote it. I love his version as well as this one. Leon plays it live onstage.
Thanks for a great review. This is the definitive Leon’s version performance. Who else could have come up with ‘love you in a place where there is no space or time’? th-cam.com/video/37dw2r45Xzg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JV6jRO2xbD39xDDK

Donny deserves a deep dive, another great player who left us way too soon, mental health is a real thing

Donny had an incredible voice. I got his debut album and lovin it. His live album is fantastic too.
Amazingly beautiful song
Donny's daughter, Lalah Hathaway, is also a great singer.
One of the best vocalist I've heard
I've ran a needle thru couple of his records... js
So very beautiful, so much emotion 😢 thank you Biz

✨I’ve Never Heard This Sung By Anyone & NOT Liked or Loved it❕✨💖✨Love Your Reaction Biz!✨💖✨
I love you more than you can ever know
Great song.

One of the best to ever do it
Donny was one of Aretha's favorite people as an artist and a person.

Leon Russel, Singing this song for you..
Donny Hathaway

Hell yes
"Giving up" is another great one
Nocturne Number Nine so divine!
Great song. Whitney did it for the troops.
Oh please do more from my favorite artist!
Tribute to Leon. Loved Donny. There’s NO
interpreter of songs like him! Gone too soon.
I ❤ this song and all of these arrangements but Ray Charles' is my fav. js
So many great artists had such hard lives. I wish the suffering didn't have to be part of great art so often.
